Tianer Yu put on a brilliant performance at the recent WTT Youth Star Contender Skopje, reaching the quarter final and came close to making it to the semi-final as she led thwarted world ranked number 11 2-0. As well as defeating two players ranked within the top 25 in the world along the way.
Tianer Yu made it through the group stage as runner up at the Macedonian WTT Star Contender in Skopje. Yu was placed in group 4 of the tournament along with fourth seed Divyanshi Bhowmick ranked 17 in the world. Tianer Yu found herself seeded second; however, it was third seed and world ranked 82 Yan Yutong who took the group victory with a 3-0 win over Yu. A fantastic win for Yu, in the first round of group fixtures, saw the London based youngster defeat the fourth seed 3-2. A match where the English star lead 2-1 after a 13-11 victory. Bhowmick hit back with a confident 11-3 victory, which would have given confidence to enter the fifth end. Yu didn’t let the favour of momentum affect her as she took the fifth end 11-6.

Yu faced Syndrela Das of India in the round of 16, and quickly raced into a 7-2 and 10-7 lead in the first end, before the world ranked 25 had 3 game points of her own. A marathon first end resulted with a 16-14 victory for Tianer Yu. The fourth end saw the English international race into a 7-2 lead, before finishing the job and securing a 3-1 victory, a fabulous victory for Tianer who is currently ranked 68 in the world.
Yu then took on the number 11 in the world and third seed, Mao Takamori of Japan, in the quarter final, and the English star raced into a 10-6 lead in the first end before securing the game 11-9. Leading 2-0, reaching the semi finals looked on the cards. However, an inspired fight back from the opponent, resulted in an eventual 3-2 loss.
