Blake Monroe will defend the NXT Women’s North American Championship against Thea Hail on the Tuesday, December 16 episode. The bout was announced during this week’s show following an angle where the entire women’s locker room answered an open challenge from Monroe, and Hail even submitted Monroe with a kimura, but the match had never officially started.

A new number one contender to Oba Femi’s NXT Championship will also be decided on next week’s WWE NXT TV.

The runners-up from the Iron Survivor Challenge at last weekend’s Deadline will square off in a four-way with the winner challenging Femi for the NXT title at New Year’s Evil on January 6. Joe Hendry, Myles Borne, Leon Slater, and Dion Lennox will compete in the four-way.

Je’Von Evans won the Iron Survivor Challenge at Deadline and was set to challenge at New Year’s Evil, but demanded his title shot on this week’s NXT TV and lost.

A tag team bout is also set for next week’s show, with the returning Hank Walker and Tank Ledger facing Lucien Price and Bronco Nima of OTM.

The Knicks are officially heading to Las Vegas.

New York booked their ticket to the NBA Cup Semifinals with their road win over the Raptors on Tuesday night.

Jalen Brunson led the way with 35 points, and the squad used a strong defensive second quarter to open a double-digit advantage that they never looked back from.

The Knicks will now face the Magic on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. with a trip to the NBA Cup Finals on the line.

Orlando beat the Miami Heat, 117-108, in the first Quarterfinals matchup Tuesday night.

New York has made it out of the group stage in all three years of the NBA Cup’s existence, but this will be their first time advancing to Vegas for the final four.

They were routed by the Bucks two years ago and fell to Trae Young and the Hawks last year.

Standing in their way now is a pesky Magic squad, whom they have lost to twice in three tries this season.

That lone victory, though, came with Karl-Anthony Towns sidelined this past weekend.

“This locker room is ecstatic,†Towns said. “Itâ€s an opportunity to represent our city, represent our team over in Vegas — the Cup brings out a competitive edge in all of us in this league, and weâ€re just happy we have a chance to go out there and compete against the best of them.â€

Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff voiced his displeasure with the officials for several penalty calls during Monday’s loss in Calgary against the Flames.

His feelings about officiating certainly didn’t improve on Tuesday in Edmonton.

Rasmus Dahlin’s point shot in the second period appeared to hit the hand of teammate Alex Tuch before going to Sabres star Tage Thompson, who fired it home to give Buffalo what appeared to be a 2-0 lead.

But Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch challenged for what the team felt was a missed stoppage in play. After video review, the Situation Room ruled in favour of the Oilers.

“The Situation Room determined that Alex Tuch directed the puck to Tage Thompson with a hand pass at 10:23 of the first period (9:37 elapsed time) – one second prior to Thompsonâ€s goal. The decision was made in accordance with Rule 79,” the NHL wrote in a statement.

Rule No. 38.1 in the NHL’s rule book states: “In all Coachâ€s Challenge situations, the original call on the ice will be overturned if, and only if, a conclusive and irrefutable determination can be made on the basis of video evidence that the original call on the ice was clearly not correct. If a review is not conclusive and/or there is any doubt whatsoever as to whether the call on the ice was correct, the original call on the ice will be confirmed.”

In this case, the stoppage the Oilers were referring to was what they felt was a hand pass, which has been a hotly debated issue recently.

Rule 79.1 in the NHL rule book states: “A player shall be permitted to stop or ‘bat’ a puck in the air with his open hand, or push it along the ice with his hand, and the play shall not be stopped unless, in the opinion of the on-ice officials, he has directed the puck to a teammate, or has allowed his team to gain an advantage, and subsequently possession and control of the puck is obtained by a player of the offending team, either directly or deflected off any player or official. If, in the opinion of the on-ice officials, the puck has deflected off a playerâ€s hand, and no advantage has been gained by the team, it will not constitute a violation for the purpose of this rule.”

The Tampa Bay Lightning had a goal called back on a hand pass last Thursday, while the Columbus Blue Jackets lost a challenge for what they felt was a hand pass by the Florida Panthers on Saturday.

Panthers forward Brad Marchand hit a flying puck with his hand behind the Blue Jackets’ net right before Seth Jones buried Florida’s second goal of the night.

Blue Jackets coach Dean Evason chose to challenge the play for a hand pass, but the puck was determined to have just deflected off Marchand after the NHL’s review, and the goal stood.

A livid Evason, whose team also had a goal called back because of a kicking motion, said the “entire game was a joke.”

As for the Lightning, a Nikita Kucherov goal was waved off after Brandon Hagel was deemed to have made a hand pass against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Lightning coach Jon Cooper referred to the call as “laughable.”

The Sabres, to their credit, maintained their composure on Tuesday and got the 2-0 lead back minutes later when Thompson scored a goal that counted.

Liverpool coach Arne Slot questioned whether Mohamed Salah should be the one to initiate a conversation with him following his explosive interview at the weekend.

Salah was omitted from Liverpool’s squad for their 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League Tuesday after he claimed Liverpool had thrown him “under the bus” following the Reds’ 3-3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday. The forward also said his relationship with Slot had broken down, with the Liverpool boss admitting on Monday he had not spoken at length with Salah since the incident.

With Salah, Liverpool’s normal penalty taker, absent, Dominik Szoboszlai stepped up and converted from the spot for the decisive goal on the night.

Asked whether he plans to speak with Salah in the coming days, Slot said after the win over Inter: “You say everyone makes mistakes in life, so the first thing should be, does the player think he’s made a mistake as well?

“I haven’t said I’m not going to talk to him. And the next question is should the initiative come from me or from him. Now that’s another question to answer.”

When pushed to clarify whether that means he expects Salah to approach him, Slot added: “I am happy that you asked that. Clarence [Seedorf] said [on the broadcast] that in his opinion and I didn’t say who should make the first step. Tonight, it should be all about the players that are here. In the rich history Liverpool has had, they have had many of these evenings.”

Slot added he was touched by the support from the traveling Liverpool fans at San Siro on Tuesday, with his name ringing out at the full-time whistle.

“What it means that the fans sing for me, that means a lot,” the Dutch coach added. “But I said it is not about me, it is about the team. So many fans are showing their support in a difficult circumstance for the club.”

Despite a disastrous start to Liverpool’s Premier League defense, the win over Inter on Tuesday has Slot’s side in eighth place on 12 points after six games in the league phase of the UCL. Liverpool are in 10th in England’s top flight, but only three points behind Crystal Palace for the last Champions League spot for next season.

Liverpool host Brighton on Saturday. Slot has not said whether Salah will be part of the team for that game.

An AEW legend made a surprising confession on his thoughts about John Cena’s WWE retirement run.

With his final match just a few days away, the major topic of discussion in the professional wrestling world is The Cenation Leader’s swansong. Many of Cena’s longtime rivals have shared their thoughts on the same; however, one of his more iconic rivals, AEW veteran Bryan Danielson, had a surprising admission.

The American Dragon had a legendary rivalry with the Chain Gang Soldier in 2013, where the Last Real Champion chose Danielson as his opponent for SummerSlam, which ended up with Danielson winning however, he was then attacked by Triple H, who let Randy Orton cash-in his Money In The Bank contract and win the titles. This match helped kickstart the “Yes!” movement.

Given their history, it was surprising to hear Danielson admit that he had not watched any match from The Never Seen Seventeen’s final run.

AEW Star Bryan Danielson Shares Why He Hasn’t Followed John Cena’s Final WWE Run

Speaking in an interview on Justin Barrasso’s Undisputed, Bryan Danielson revealed that the reason for his not following John Cena’s final run was because he was in an “experimental phase” of his life where he wanted to overwhelm himself by consuming too much media.

He shared an anecdote about a recent trip he took to visit his mother, which involved a 13-hour drive spent in silence. While he admitted to not watching any of Cena’s recent matches, he wished that his former rival would get a great send-off. He said:

“I honestly havenâ€t watched, Iâ€m entering this experimental phase of my life where Iâ€m experiencing less input from media. When I went to visit my mother recently, I made a 13-hour drive. I didnâ€t listen to any music, I didnâ€t listen to any podcasts. There was nothing but silence. The only times there wasnâ€t silence was when my wife called, I got on an AEW call, or when I called mom. As I experiment with less input, that also means less wrestling input. So I havenâ€t seen any of John Cenaâ€s final run. Iâ€m not watching, but I hope it goes really well for John. That guy deserves the last year of his career to be awesome.â€

Jeâ€Von Evans failed to capture the NXT Championship on Tuesday thanks to one person: Ricky Saints.

In a surprise, Jeâ€Von Evans cashed in his New Yearâ€s Evil title match on Tuesdayâ€s NXT against Oba Femi. Although Femi dominated, Evans made a comeback and managed to land his cutter not once, but twice towards the end of the match. Evans went for the cover but right as the referee went to count three, Saints emerged and pulled the referee out of the ring. Evans wasted no time in laying out Saints with a dive, but the momentum had already shifted as back in the ring Femi cut him off and landed his powerbomb for the win. The show closed with Saints smirking at the result of the match.

NXT opened with Femi coming out to talk about his upcoming match against Cody Rhodes at Saturday Nightâ€s Main Event. Saints came out and said he admitted that Femi was the better man at Deadline, but he wanted a rematch for the title. Evans came out and said that while he had the title match for New Yearâ€s Evil, he wanted to challenge Femi tonight. After Saints asked Evans why he was in a rush, Evans said heâ€s not the future, heâ€s the now and no one is touching him right now.

Evans previously hinted about his plans during Deadline when he consoled Saints following his loss, saying he wasnâ€t going to wait for New Yearâ€s Evil if he went on to win the Iron Survivor Challenge. Evans then proceeded to win the match, earning him another NXT Championship match.

Ricky Saints and Oba Femi face off

WWE

Ricky Saints cost Je’Von Evans the NXT Championship in his challenge against Oba Femi in the main event of “WWE NXT.”

Evans interrupted Saints earlier in the show as the former champion sought a rematch for the title he had lost at Deadline. And given that Evans was the Iron Survivor coming out of the same event, he made the case that he should get the next opportunity at the title and didn’t want to wait for New Year’s Evil. Saints originally pushed back on the idea, but Evans appeared to talk him down and he stepped aside for Evans to challenge Femi in the main event.Â

The challenger went on to endure everything the champion could throw at him, getting the better of things on the outside of the ring before returning and seeming to have the match under wraps. He connected with his springboard cutter and went for what looked like the winning cover, only for the referee to be yanked from the ring before the three-count could be made.Â

Evans turned to realize that it was Saints that had cost him, with them staring one another down as Femi got back to his feet. He clattered his challenger with a lariat, delivering the finishing powerbomb for the winning pinfall.Â

After the match, Femi walked off with his title, confirming that it will be him going into this weekend’s Saturday Night’s Main Event against WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. He gave a disapproving look to Saints, who simply shrugged it off and continued to smile at Evans defeated in the ring as the show went off air.Â

Tuesday was a good day to be Kyle Schwarber.

The Philadelphia slugger agreed to a five-year, $150 million contract to remain with the Phillies. And he was announced as one of four new players selected to USA’s World Baseball Classic team.

USA Baseball announced Tuesday that Schwarber, Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson, Brewers second baseman Brice Turang and Dodgers catcher Will Smith will join a WBC roster that’s already laden with MLB stars.

Aaron Judge, Cal Raleigh, Paul Skenes and Bobby Witt Jr. are among the players previously selected to play for Team USA in the international competition that will commence in March. Judge will serve as captain in his first WBC appearance.

Judge is a three-time MVP. Skenes is a unanimous Cy Young Winner. And Schwarber and Raleigh were both MVP finalists in 2025.

USA Baseball announced the new additions via multiple social media posts, including one featuring Schwarber’s 10-pitch at-bat in the 2023 WBC championship game vs. Japan that ended with a solo home run to cut Japan’s lead to 3-2.

But Schwarber’s blast wasn’t enough to propel USA to victory. Against a Japan team that sent out Shohei Ohtani as its closer, USA didn’t score again as Japan secured a 3-2 victory to win the WBC.

Ohtani will be playing for Japan again in March, fresh off securing his fourth MLB MVP award in five seasons. And Japan will be seeking its fourth championship after winning three of the five previous WBCs (2006, 2009, 2023).

The Dominican Republic won in 2013. And Team USA will be seeking its second title after winning in 2017.

USA Baseball’s WBC roster

Here’s what Team USA’s roster looks like so far, with more additions to come:

Paul Skenes, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates
Matthew Boyd, SP, Chicago Cubs
Cal Raleigh, C, Seattle Mariners
Will Smith, C, Los Angeles Dodgers
Brice Turang, 2B, Milwaukee Brewers
Bobby Witt Jr., SS, Kansas City Royals
Gunnar Henderson, SS, Baltimore Orioles
Aaron Judge, OF, New York Yankees
Corbin Carroll, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks
Pete Crow-Armstrong, OF, Chicago Cubs
Kyle Schwarber, DH, Philadelphia Phillies
