XXIO 14 pushes lightweight tech, first adjustable driver

The lightweight golf club segment is one of the fastest-growing spaces in golf clubs, with more and more OEMs offering lighter options to help players boost speed and launch.

XXIO has been the leader in that space for a long time and today, they are unveiling their latest XXIO 14 line, packed with innovation for golfers who don’t swing it fast (or not as fast as they used to).

“XXIO 14 represents a true shift of where we are taking this brand,” XXIO Vice President Chuck Thiry said in a release. “We’ve moved beyond incremental improvements to deliver something completely new, making it easier than ever for women and seniors to swing faster, hit straighter, and enjoy the game even more.”

Keep reading below for more on the XXIO 14 line of drivers, woods, hybrids and irons.

    What’s new with XXIO 14?

At the heart of the entire XXIO 14 line is new Ultiflex faces. In the woods, that’s centered around a new material, VR-Titanium.

XXIO says the VR-Titanium is stronger, thinner and more durable than previous materials and increases ball speeds with minimal effort.

The woods also feature ActivWing technology and a new High-Grip Milled Pattern on the heel, which helps rein in dispersion on off-center hits.

Lastly, for the first time in XXIO history, the driver features an adjustable 1.5˚ loft sleeve, allowing players to fine-tune launch and spin characteristics and giving fitters another lever to find a player the best driver for their games.

Ultiflex is also present in the irons, using titanium faces to save weight and repositioning it lower with high-density tungsten that naturally launches the ball higher.

There’s also a newly designed L-Groove that sits lower on the face and boosts flexibility for extra ballspeed on low strikes.

In addition to the XXIO 14 men’s line, there’s a XXIO Women’s, which features rounded shapes and is optimized for slower swing speeds.

Lastly, there’s also a new XXIO 14+ line, featuring all the same technology as the standard XXIO 14 line, but optimized for faster (90-100 mph) swing speeds. XXIO 14+ woods have a matte finish and darker faces and the irons have a V-sole for enhanced turf interaction.

The entire XXIO brand is built around helping slower swing speed players or older golfers who have lost a bit on their fastball. For players looking for a little extra help with speed in launch, the new XXIO 14 line will make for a great fit.

XXIO clubs are also draw-biased to help players fight a slice.

The new XXIO 14+ line is going to appeal to players who don’t have a ton of speed, but maybe have trouble getting the ball up in the air.

    My Thoughts

Very often, the clubs in the lightweight space are afterthoughts and end up as watered-down versions of the top-of-the-line products. But with XXIO, the entire brand identity is about helping players with slower swing speeds who need these lighter-weight clubs.

That’s evident with their latest line of clubs.

Finally, players seeking ultralight clubheads have a driver option with an adjustable hosel, making it easier than ever to find the perfect XXIO driver. That’s only going to add to the number of players who will benefit from a premium-focused ultralight club.
