George Tahinos, a longtime wrestling photographer, has passed away.
Tahinos†family made the announcement on Facebook Sunday that he had passed away as a result of a “fatal cardiac incident.”
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden loss of our dear cousin, George Tahinos, on Sunday, Nov. 9 as the result of a fatal cardiac incident,” they wrote (via Slam Wrestling). “George was predeceased by his parents, George and Pauline. He grew up in Wayne, NJ and was a 1980 graduate of Wayne Valley High School. From an early age, George was an avid collector of sports memorabilia and a skilled photographer, which became his lifeâ€s work with the professional wrestling community. In his spare time, he was an enthusiastic New Jersey Devilâ€s fan and a talented amateur bowler. He was a regular at the Hollywood Bowl in Oakland, NJ, where he served as treasurer of the league.â€
Tahinos took photographs across many promotions over the years, including WWE, WCW, and ECW events. He recently shot photos for the likes of Paul Heymanâ€s Heyman Hustle venture as well as Slam Wrestling.
“Really saddened to hear about the passing of George Tahinos,†Gabe Sapolosky wrote on social media. “Used so many of his pics in ECW programs. If youâ€ve seen anything with wrestling pictures since the 90s, youâ€ve seen Georgeâ€s work. The best. Deepest condolences to his friends and family.â€
Pro Wrestling Illustrated also released a statement on Tahinos†passing: “George Tahinos was a talented photographer with a keen eye and a great work ethic. We were always delighted to include his pictures in our magazines, and we will, above all, miss seeing him at shows all across the tri-state area. Rest well, friend.â€
Details regarding a memorial service and a GoFundMe page will be released on Tahinos†Facebook page as arrangements are finalized.
