Ian Riccaboni’s stock continues to rise behind the scenes at AEW, and it looks like fans will be hearing a lot more of his voice on upcoming broadcasts.
Riccaboni recently signed a new contract with AEW after stepping in for commentary duties on several episodes of AEW Dynamite earlier this year. Originally brought in to give Tony Schiavone a break during long taping days, Riccaboni’s professionalism and presence were quickly recognized by talent and staff alike.
AEW sources told Fightful Select that Riccaboni is “beloved,” and the sentiment appears to be shared widely across the locker room.
“A number of wrestlers reached out to say that they were hoping he would become a more permanent fixture on AEW broadcasts.”
While AEW has been satisfied with its current commentary team, Riccaboni has still found ways to contribute—on his own terms. He holds a full-time job outside of wrestling, and has been upfront about the importance of work-life balance, especially when it comes to family.
“He also had communicated the importance of being able to maintain a healthy schedule with his family that AEW respected.”
Most recently, Riccaboni earned high marks following AEW’s double tapings and continued receiving praise after working the Philadelphia Dynamite. According to sources, fans can expect to see him more regularly during future tapings in Philly.
With rave reviews from peers and a growing presence on AEW television, Riccaboni could be solidifying his place as one of the company’s go-to voices.
