The Women’s Cricket World Cup is an international tournament for women’s One Day International (ODI) cricket. This event is organized by the ICC and is held every four years, and involves 50 overs for each team. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is in charge of organizing it. Thirteen Women ODI World Cup tournaments have been held in five different countries since their inception, with India and England hosting three of them each.

Australia is the most dominant team in the competitionâ€s history, winning seven titles and missing the final only four times. England has won four titles, while New Zealand and India have each won once. The West Indies and South Africa have both reached the final once but have yet to win the championship.

India claimed their first-ever ICC Women World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the 2025 final at Navi Mumbai. India scored 298-7 in 50 overs following a rain delay, driven by Shafali Verma’s scorching 87 off 78 balls and Deepti Sharma’s vital 58.Â

After a heroic 101 from South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, the team collapsed as Deepti’s 5-39 gave them the victory and bowled them out for 246 in 45.3 overs. The victory, celebrated by a sold-out crowd of 45,000 at the DY Patil Stadium, marked a historic moment for Indian womenâ€s cricket after Indiaâ€s shaky group-stage start.

List of Winners of the Women ODI World Cup

The 2025 Womenâ€s ODI World Cup was co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, where India claimed their maiden title by defeating South Africa in the final. Australia won their seventh World Cup title in 2022 after beating England in the final in New Zealand. In 2017, England won at home by defeating India at Lordâ€s.

Earlier, England had beaten New Zealand in Australia in 2009, but Australia came back strong in 2013 by defeating the West Indies in India. In 2005, held in South Africa, Australia also beat India to win the trophy.

In 2000, New Zealand secured their only World Cup title on home soil by narrowly defeating Australia. The 1997 World Cup in India was dominated by Australia, who beat New Zealand in the final, while Englandâ€s 1993 victory at Lordâ€s over New Zealand marked their second crown.

Earlier editions saw Australia win back-to-back titles in 1988 and 1982, both times against England, after England had won the inaugural 1973 tournament and Australia claimed the 1978 title in India through a round-robin format.
