The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 was co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India and ran from September 30 to November 2. It brought together the best female cricket players in the world for a competition that featured outstanding batsmanship and ball skills.
Australia’s Alana King bowled 7/18 against South Africa in the group stage and became the bowler with the best figures in Women’s World Cup history. Her teammate Annabel Sutherland, along with Deepti Sharma (who achieved the feat twice) and South Africaâ€s Marizanne Kapp, also took five-wicket hauls during the tournament.
Kapp surpassed Indian legend Jhulan Goswamiâ€s record for the most wickets in Womenâ€s ODI World Cup history, moving past Goswamiâ€s 43 dismissals. Goswami still remains the all-time leading wicket-taker in Womenâ€s ODIs overall, with 255 wickets.
Historically, Rosalind Heggs of the Young England team was the first top wicket-taker in the inaugural 1973 Womenâ€s ODI World Cup with 12 wickets. Australiaâ€s Lyn Fullston is the only player to lead the wicket charts in two different editions, in 1982 and 1988, with 23 and 16 wickets, respectively. Her 23 wickets in 1982 still stand as the highest number taken by any bowler in a single Womenâ€s ODI World Cup edition.
