The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 was co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India and ran from September 30 to November 2. It brought together the best female cricket players in the world for a competition that featured outstanding batsmanship and ball skills.

Australia’s Alana King bowled 7/18 against South Africa in the group stage and became the bowler with the best figures in Women’s World Cup history.  Her teammate Annabel Sutherland, along with Deepti Sharma (who achieved the feat twice) and South Africaâ€s Marizanne Kapp, also took five-wicket hauls during the tournament.

Kapp surpassed Indian legend Jhulan Goswamiâ€s record for the most wickets in Womenâ€s ODI World Cup history, moving past Goswamiâ€s 43 dismissals. Goswami still remains the all-time leading wicket-taker in Womenâ€s ODIs overall, with 255 wickets.

Historically, Rosalind Heggs of the Young England team was the first top wicket-taker in the inaugural 1973 Womenâ€s ODI World Cup with 12 wickets. Australiaâ€s Lyn Fullston is the only player to lead the wicket charts in two different editions, in 1982 and 1988, with 23 and 16 wickets, respectively. Her 23 wickets in 1982 still stand as the highest number taken by any bowler in a single Womenâ€s ODI World Cup edition.

Indiaâ€s Deepti Sharma emerged as the standout bowler, taking 22 wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 5.52. She became the first bowler in Womenâ€s World Cup history to claim a five-wicket haul in the final and was named Player of the Tournament. Her tally of 22 wickets was just one short of the all-time record for the most wickets in a single edition of the Womenâ€s ODI World Cup.

Australiaâ€s Annabel Sutherland followed with 17 wickets, maintaining tight control with an economy of 4.45, while Englandâ€s Sophie Ecclestone claimed 16 wickets at an impressive economy of 4.05. With 14 wickets, India’s rising star Shree Charani also made a significant impact, and in just 7 games, Australia’s Alana King equaled her consistency with 13 wickets.

One of the best spinners in modern women’s cricket, Sophie Ecclestone of England, maintained her dominance from the 2022 edition, when she was the top wicket-taker, taking 16 wickets in seven matches at an amazing economy rate of 4.05.

Australiaâ€s Alana King and Indiaâ€s rising star Shree Charani both claimed 13 wickets each. Kapp achieved a historic milestone by overtaking Indiaâ€s Jhulan Goswami to become the all-time leading wicket-taker in Womenâ€s World Cup history with 44 dismissals. Englandâ€s Linsey Smith finished with the best economy rate (3.60) among the top ten bowlers of the tournament.
