Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes received the 2025 National League Cy Young Award on Wednesday night.
Skenes and his girlfriend, former LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne, reacted to the news while surrounded by friends and family.
It was a slightly different response compared to the viral video showing their contrasting levels of excitement after the right-hander won NL Rookie of the Year honors in 2024.
Skenes also finished No. 3 in NL Cy Young Award voting during his inaugural season. He eventually followed up his promising rookie year with a dominant 2025 campaign, leading the majors with a 1.97 ERA.
Skenes also racked up 216 strikeouts compared to 42 walks, allowing just 11 home runs across 187.2 innings of work.
Opposing batters hit .199 against him in 2025, posting a mere .558 OPS.
While the Pirates ended up missing the postseason for a 10th consecutive year by finishing with a 71-91 record, Skenes thrived down the stretch of the season.
The 23-year-old compiled a 1.35 ERA over his final five starts, totaling 35 strikeouts in 26.2 innings.
While Skenes only has two years of MLB experience under his belt, he’s already established himself as one of the top starting pitchers in the sport.
