Vince McMahon finds himself in another controversy as a female WWE legend accused him of forcing her to pose for Playboy magazine.
During a recent podcast appearance on Pod Meets World, WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus talked about the pressure she faced from Vince McMahon to pose for Playboy magazine during her wrestling career. The legendary wrestler said she was approached many times over the years, but she always said no and has never regretted that decision.
Stratus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 and won the WWE Women’s Championship seven times. She explained why she refused the Playboy deal.
Itâ€s just not for me. Iâ€m like a tomboy. Even though Iâ€m known as a sex symbol, I suppose—Iâ€ve heard that—itâ€s not me. Itâ€s my character, you know? But I mean, I pull it off if I need to. But yeah, no, it was not even an option. I was like, ‘Oh, that is just not me.â€
Even when I had to do the pillow fights—and I actually didnâ€t have a pillow fight one—but I had to do lingerie stuff. It just wasnâ€t me. It felt very put on.”
She also described an uncomfortable incident within WWE, for something called the Divas magazine. She said,
Even one time, they had these annual magazines called the Divas magazines. It was like Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues, where weâ€d go down to some exotic location and shoot that. Well, I donâ€t know if it was budget cuts or whatever it was—or maybe, like you said, the horny writers or storylines—but suddenly, instead of the annual bikini issue, they wanted a lingerie issue. And I was like, “Oh…†I didnâ€t want to do it. It felt so silly to me. So I made this whole look—it was like sports lingerie. I did the socks and made it athletic-sexy, you know what I mean? I made it me.”
She added athletic elements to the shoots and made them feel true to her real self. She created what she called ‘sports lingerie’ to match her tomboy personality and values.. This reluctance from Stratus shows that, despite her public image, she was always professional and dedicated to the company. She never got involved in something she wasn’t comfortable with or was unwilling to do.
Vince McMahon’s Role in Hounding Trish Stratus
McMahon pushed her pretty hard to accept the offer. He told her it was a great opportunity for her career and future in WWE. He also hinted at what might happen if she turned him down. Stratus remembered McMahon saying,
I just—I donâ€t know—the sexy thing didnâ€t come natural. So when Playboy came calling, I was like, absolutely not interested. Vince [McMahon], oh my God, hounded me like crazy. Heâ€s like, ‘Itâ€s a great opportunity.†And I was shown, also during that time, ‘But look at the opportunity—if you turn this down, weâ€re going to give your opportunities to her.†And I was like, ‘No, I still donâ€t want to do it. Thank you.—
It came to me for years and years, and I was just like, ‘No.†And I do not regret it—never. Itâ€s just not my thing. And now, my God, now that I have kids and everything, I couldnâ€t even imagine, to be honest. So, I know that was my decision, and I stand by it.†(H/T: NoDQ.com)
Today, Stratus feels good about the choice she made back then. She has kids now, and she said she couldn’t even imagine having done that photoshoot. She was clear that her refusal of the offer was her own decision, and she stands by it with no regrets.

For Stratus, staying true to herself was way more important to her than any opportunity McMahon could offer her.
