Triple H confirms a first-time-ever collision at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event 42.
The show will be headlined by John Cena vs. Gunther, as the Never-Seen 17 laces up his sneakers one last time before riding off into the sunset.
The Ring General forced LA Knight to submit in the “Last Time Is Now Tournament” finals this past Friday to earn this distinctive honor, and further went on to issue a chilling warning to Big Match John about tapping out, who lives by the “Never Give Up” motto.
Meanwhile, the rest of the card is shaping up quite nicely. The Last Real Champion had disclosed in one of his final RAW appearances last month that on his final night as an in-ring performer in WWE, the spotlight will also be on the young stalwarts of NXT. Outside Cena vs. Gunther, perhaps the most anticipated match on the card has just now been confirmed.
Triple H Announces Massive Champion Vs. Champion Match, Updated WWE SNME Card
At NXT Deadline, Oba Femi surprised fans as he reclaimed the top spot of the black-and-silver brand. In September, Ricky Starks put down The Ruler and, in the process, won his first NXT Championship. This past Saturday, Femi defeated Starks.
Triple H wasted little time before taking to X and making it official: Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will go one-on-one with NXT Champion Oba Femi at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The Ruler. The American Nightmare. A huge opportunity for @Obaofwwe on a massive stage when he goes up against @WWEUndisputed Champion @CodyRhodes at #SNME. #NXTDeadline,” Triple H wrote on X.

With that, WWE has announced three matches for Saturday Night’s Main Event 42, scheduled to air live from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. on December 13. Oba Femi and Sol Ruca have been picked to represent NXT thus far.
- John Cena vs. Gunther [Cena’s retirement match]
- Cody Rhodes (Undisputed WWE) vs. Oba Femi (NXT) [Champion vs. Champion]
- Bayley vs. Sol Ruca
Amid some backlash over John Cena vs. Gunther, the GOAT’s former rival recently claimed that he is “not above” interfering the retirement match this Saturday.
