Since Taylor Swift is set to marry into the Kansas City Chiefs’ extended family, Patrick Mahomes honored her by including “Opalite” in an Instagram post with highlights of Rashee Rice’s return game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
On the latest episode of the New Heightspodcast (starts at 16:45 mark), Travis Kelce reacted to Mahomes’ post with a laugh, calling the song “a banger, man.”
Swift has explained that she wrote the song about finding love and perspective after a particularly heartbreaking moment.
“When we go through something that doesn’t work out, we oftentimes look at it as this major setback, like we’ve taken a step back,” she said. “But I’ve found that so many of those instances in my life can catapult you forward in growth, in wisdom, in perspective.”
Opalite is also revered in the spiritual community as a calming tool for its soothing energy, along with providing emotional stability and sparking creativity.
The metaphor for Mahomes is obvious that Rice is such a difference-maker for the Chiefs and his absence was profoundly felt. His return has helped the world make sense again for Mahomes.
Rice hadn’t played since Sept. 29, 2024, when he suffered a torn ACL on an inadvertent tackle by Mahomes after he threw an interception. The third-year wideout was also suspended for the first six games of this season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
Even though Rice only had 42 yards on seven catches, he also scored touchdowns in a 31-0 win over the Raiders. The Chiefs have scored at least 28 points in four consecutive games, their longest such streak since the 2021 season.
