If you’re watching tonight’s Tigers-Red Sox clash at Fenway Park — the start of the final series of the regular season, with huge playoff implications for both teams — you’ll want to take a close look at what you’re seeing on the broadcast.

Because some of those shots will be filmed on an iPhone.

For the final Friday Night Baseball showdown of the year on Apple TV+, the broadcast will feature live game footage captured on the new iPhone 17 Pro. It will be the first time an iPhone will be used publicly in the live broadcast of a professional sporting event.

On Friday night, there will be four iPhone 17 Pros set up around Fenway Park for the game — even one inside the iconic Green Monster, shooting out onto the field.

There will also be iPhones positioned inside the Red Sox’s dugout and one roving around the stadium to capture the ballpark buzz for Boston’s biggest series of the year.

Those four iPhone cameras will be used to capture ballpark moments throughout the night, including batting practice, player intros, dugout shots, the fan atmosphere and live gameplay between Boston and Detroit.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.

Fans watching the broadcast will be able to see exactly which shots were filmed on an iPhone. As the Apple TV+ broadcast works in the iPhone 17 Pro footage, there will be a special overlay on-screen that identifies those shots for viewers.

Last week in Los Angeles, with the Dodgers on Friday Night Baseball, Apple tested out the iPhone 17 Pro in preparation for tonight’s game in Boston by shooting footage of Clayton Kershaw’s final career regular-season start at Dodger Stadium. The iPhone 17 Pro captured Kershaw pitching, Shohei Ohtani hitting a home run and more.

Major League Baseball authenticated those four iPhones as the first iPhones used by a broadcaster to shoot a live MLB game.

The use of the iPhone 17 Pro during Friday’s broadcast at Fenway will be the latest innovation introduced through Friday Night Baseball in 2025. This year, fans watching on AppleTV+ have seen in-stadium drone shots, ump and helmet cams, mic’d-up players, cinematic-style shots from “Megalodon” cameras and more.

Using the iPhone to shoot live game footage will allow AppleTV+ to showcase unique angles on its Friday Night Baseball broadcast, thanks to the iPhone’s smaller size and its mobility compared to a traditional broadcast camera.
