Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to receive the Entertainment Icon Award at the 8th American Black Film Festival Honors, recognising his remarkable contributions to the entertainment industry. The ceremony will take place on Monday, February 16, at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

In a statement to Variety, Jeff Friday and Nicole Friday, co-CEOs and presidents of Nice Crowd, expressed their admiration for Johnson’s achievements. They noted that Johnson represents the true definition of an entertainment icon, citing his pioneering career in sports entertainment, his success in Hollywood, and his status as one of the most influential figures in global culture. According to the organisers, Johnson’s journey embodies the values of perseverance, authenticity, and charisma, which align with the spirit of the American Black Film Festival.

Johnson’s career began in professional wrestling when he made his debut at the 1996 Survivor Series held at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 17. Initially appearing under the name Rocky Maivia, he transformed himself into ‘The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment.’ He transitioned to Hollywood in 2001, marking his film acting debut in ‘The Mummy Returns,’ which grossed $435 million worldwide and became the seventh-highest-grossing film of that year.
