John Daly high-fived Steve Buscemi. He then shouted that he wanted to go to Hooters.

Daly also hit Buscemi on the backside. Then Buscemi hit him back. After a few more blows, they wrestled.

The back-and-forth between Daly, a two-time major winner, and Buscemi, a longtime actor, made for a fun few seconds toward the end of the “Happy Gilmore 2,” the sequel to the beloved golf-based movie that’s been setting record viewership numbers on Netflix. But maybe the best part about the scene?

While millions have seen the movie starring actor Adam Sandler, apparently no one saw the Daly-Buscemi moment coming while it was being filmed. In an interview with Hard Rock Bet, Daly said it was improvised.

“Well, I think my first scene was with Steve Buscemi, man,” Daly said. “What a great guy, and just an incredible actor — the movies he’s been in, the work he’s done — and he made it all feel really comfortable. We kind of went off-script with that scene. You know, the part where we got into a fight on the couch — that was all just me and him goofing off.

“And Adam loved it. It was just a really cool experience.”

As to why they were fighting? We won’t spoil it, in case you haven’t seen the movie yet. But we will say that Daly can be spotted often throughout it.

“It was just a really cool experience,” Daly told Hard Rock Bet. “It felt like a bridge between the old generation of Happy Gilmore and the new — with all the crazy golf stuff going on.

“I thought Scottie Scheffler was awesome in it, too. It was just a blast to do. Adam and I have been friends for a long time, and it was an honor to be a part of it. I’m just glad he said I did OK. I think I did a little more than OK.”

Daly is one of several pro golfers in the movie, though he’s listed first in the credits. Others include Keegan Bradley, Fred Couples, Bryson DeChambeau, Nick Faldo, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia, Charles Howell III, Charley Hull, Brooks Koepka, Nelly Korda, Nancy Lopez, Hunter Mahan, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Jack Nicklaus, Corey Pavin, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Lee Trevino, Bubba Watson and Will Zalatoris.

“Being able to film a movie was really fun,” Scheffler said last month. “They got a great turnout from current players and past players. I think it’s just because the first movie was so iconic and Adam Sandler is such an iconic actor and a guy that was a real treat to be able to work with. I had a ton of fun being able to film it.

“The reviews for the movie so far have been great. I really enjoyed watching it. I thought they did a great job with the script and the golfers did a great job acting. Will Zalatoris in his role cracked me up. The dinner scene, there were so many good one-liners in it.
