CSK Retention List IPL 2026:Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings had their worst season ever in 2025, finishing at the bottom of the table. And so, the CSK retention list for IPL 2026 is certainly an interesting one.
The deadline for retentions for IPL 2026 was today. We now take a look at the base structure for each team, with which they will enter the auction next month. Here, we will look at the Super Kings and the players they have retained from their last seasonâ€s squad.
CSK was part of the biggest player trade of the season, bringing in former Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson while trading away franchise legend Ravindra Jadeja and all-rounder Sam Curran.
They also released a lot of players from their last yearâ€s squad. This means that their retention list was among the smallest out of all teams this season.
CSK Retention List IPL 2026
First, the big guns. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, unsurprisingly, was retained by CSK. So was former captain and veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The two will form the core of this team as its leaders.
Devon Conway and Dewald Brevis are two overseas batters that this team kept hold of. Conway had a poor season last time out and is on the wrong side of 30 but is still a valuable opening batter. Brevis, on the other hand, showed signs of his obvious brilliance in 2025 and will be an asset for any IPL team, especially because of his young age.
Young batter Ayush Mhatre created waves last season with his explosive batting, and so did wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel. Both of these were obvious retentions, seeing their future potential.
CSK made sweeping changes to their all-round roster, trading away Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, while releasing players like Vijay Shankar and Deepak Huda. Their all-rounder retentions include Shivam Dube, Jamie Overton, Anshul Kamboj, and Ramakrishna Ghosh.
Then, we come to spin bowlers, a department the Super Kings need to fill up after their recent releases. Noor Ahmad and Shreyas Gopal are the only specialist spinners to be retained.
As for fast bowlers, Khaleel Ahmed was one of the two best-performing bowlers for Chennai last season and has thus been retained. Australian bowler Nathan Ellis will also wear yellow in next yearâ€s IPL. Other fast bowlers retained are Gurjapneet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary.
