Canada’s U19 Girls’ Table Tennis Team made headlines at the 2025 ITTF Pan American Youth Championship in Rosario, Argentina, with their Gold Medal performance. Ranked No. 7, the team entered the tournament as underdogs but quickly demonstrated resilience, skill, and teamwork that carried them through to the championship.

The group stage set the tone for the Canadians’ campaign. Canada won all three matches 3–0, showcasing their consistency and preparation.  In the Quarterfinals, they faced Colombia and secured a 3–1 victory, advancing to a Semifinal match against top-seeded TeamUSA.

The Semifinal was a tense, back-and-forth contest, with both teams trading points and momentum. In the end, the Canadians edged out a 3–2 victory, earning a place in the Final against Puerto Rico. The championship match mirrored the intensity of the Semifinal. Both teams fought hard for every point, but Canada maintained focus on their way to securing another 3–2 win.  Team Canada lifts the Gold Medal, achieving a memorable victory on an international stage.

At 17 years old, Jessie Xu has established herself as a key figure in Canadian youth table tennis. This was her sixth consecutive Pan American Youth Championship, competing in both U15 and U19 categories. Having helped the U19 team win silver last year, Xu brought experience, composure, and leadership to the team this year.

Jessie Xu reflected on the significance of the victory, saying,

“First, I just want to thank everyone. I want to thank my coach, my teammates, Team Canada, for always rooting for us. I’ve been in the finals three times, always finishing second. This time, we made it, and I’m so happy we proved Canada deserved this first win. Qualifying for the World Youth Championships has been my final goal, and we achieved it together. We played with no regrets.”   Outside of competition, Jessie has managed to balance her academic responsibilities alongside international tournaments.  She continues to demonstrate discipline and focus —qualities that extend beyond the table.

The victory secures Canada’s place at the 2025 ITTF World Youth Championships in Romania this November.  that is another opportunity to compete at the global level.  For Canadian table tennis, the tournament represents a milestone, showcasing the dedication of young athletes and the growing strength of the program. For Jessie Xu and her teammates, the experience reflects more than athletic skill: it demonstrates leadership, resilience, and a global perspective, all of which will benefit them in future pursuits both on and off the table.
