Former WWE Champion AJ Styles has been in the wrestling business for so long that he has seen the entire industry, both inside the ring and out of it, change before his eyes. His innovative style has contributed to the evolution of wrestling in its own unique way, but during a recent appearance on the “No-Contest Wrestling” podcast, Styles revealed the one thing he would like to see brought back to wrestling in the wake of how much it has changed since he debuted nearly 30 years ago.
“The one thing that I think is missing the most is selling,” Styles said. “The way they used to sell back in the day, man, they really made you believe that this hurt you know? That this guy’s in pain, and I just feel like we’ve gotten away from that, and I’m just as guilty as anybody, but if we could take it back and make a ‘less is more’ kind of thing happen, I think that would be best for everybody.” On the opposite side of things, Styles was also asked what is something that has disappeared from wrestling over the course of his career that he is glad to see gone, and he had a very specific answer.
“After taking them for so many years, I’m glad chair shots are gone,” Styles said. “I mean you try to find ways of making them hurt less by like jumping into it when he’s throwing it, you’re kind of putting your head into it so he doesn’t get the full swing, but at the end of the day, it never feels good.” Styles rounded off by saying that he would love to admit that taking a chair shot to the back not only hurts less than one to the head, but that it actually doesn’t hurt at all. However, that isn’t the case as he revealed that Kurt Angle almost knocked the soul out of his body with one particular chair shot to the back during their time in TNA.

Shedeur Sanders got his first taste of NFL action on Sunday when he came in for the concussed Dillon Gabriel.
Whether the Cleveland Browns’ rookie will start next week depends on Gabriel’s health. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Shedeur Sanders will start against the Las Vegas Raiders if Gabriel hasn’t cleared concussion protocols.
Sanders was far from impressive in his NFL debut, completing just four of his 16 pass attempts for 47 yards. He also threw an interception and was sacked twice.
In Sanders’ defense, there were a number of factors working against him. Of course, there were all the nerves that come with making an NFL debut, and those nerves only intensify when you’re unexpectedly thrust into a close game.
What’s more, the Browns’ coaching staff may not have been able to prepare him properly. Stefanski said after the game that Sunday’s contest was the first time Sanders had gotten snaps with the starting offense since he was drafted.
If he’s under center next week, it will presumably go better since the coaching staff will have prepared an offense designed around Sanders.
Gabriel, who was taken in the third round of this year’s draft, hasn’t exactly had an outstanding rookie season. In seven games, he’s thrown for 937 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He took over as Cleveland’s starter in October, and the Browns have gone 1-5 with him under center.
The Browns’ playoff hopes are already shot as the team sits at 2-8, so they don’t have much to lose moving forward. Cleveland could give both Gabriel and Sanders reps under center to help their development, but it sounds like Gabriel will start if he’s healthy.
After 17 years as a pro, Kevin Chappell recently announced that he’s hanging up his PGA Tour spikes.
On this week’s episode of Subpar, the 39-year-old explained that, after enduring a back surgery in 2018 and recovering in 2019, he struggled to regain his form. He sensed a shift in his priorities and work ethic, but it wasn’t until he played with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry at the Zurich Classic that he realized just how much work he needed to do to regain his competitive edge. After mulling the idea of retirement for a few months, Chappell decided stepping away was the right move.
“This is more of a life decision than a career decision,” Chappell said.
In addition to sharing the reasons behind his retirement plans, Chappell discussed a number of topics with Subpar hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz, including this thoughts on the evolution of the PGA Tour’s schedule.
“I don’t know what the future holds for the Tour,” Chappell said. “It just seems like it’s turning much into a tennis model where you’re gonna have eight to 12 events a year that really matter, and the rest of it, there will be a tour that exists, but if you’re not a regular fan, you’re not gonna really know what’s going on.

How playing with Rory McIlroy led to this pro’s retirement
By:
Josh Berhow
“There’s an opportunity for guys to make a living in those events, but as far as being relevant, it’s gonna be harder and harder to have that long career that you’ve seen in the past,” he continued. “You’re gonna have your generational talents that are gonna do it, but I think careers get shorter, guys make more money, they move on and go do something else. Somehow they need to get the turnover rate that matches the exit rate and it it could be sustainable. I don’t love it, but if that’s what the business model says that they need to be doing to grow the game of golf, then that’s what they gotta do.”
The advent of big-money, limited-field, no-cut Signature Events has also proven to be a divisive issue for some players.
“Nothing should be given to you, but with these Signature Events, like, if you finish in the top 50, you’re good for the entire year,” Knost said. “And we saw this year only one guy that was in the top 50 last year finished outside the top 100 that wasn’t injured, and that was Matthew Pavon, who just had a really bad year. Like, you really got to mess up to lose your card.
“As a player who’s obviously played a number of these events, where do you stand? Would you rather see more people in the field with a cut?”
“Yeah, I think that’s an integral part of the game, making a cut, there’s a good feeling there, there’s a sense of accomplishment, and that needs to happen in the game,” Chappell replied. “Maybe they don’t want to do full fields, but let’s everyone that kept their card the year before on the PGA Tour is exempt. Let’s do a 110-man field and let’s have a cut. It opens up opportunity, it creates less of a divide amongst on the money list and the points list, and it allows people to earn their way into the event a little bit easier.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport feels there will be “many, many teams” interested in trading for quarterback Mac Jones should the San Francisco 49ers decide to shop him this offseason.
Rapoport said Friday that Jones, who has started eight games this season amid multiple injury absences from Brock Purdy, could be a top trade candidate in part because the 2026 NFL draft could be “lackluster” in terms of quarterback depth.
“What Mac Jones did for himself this year, and for the 49ers, was re-establish himself as a starting quarterback that can win games… certainly wonder if they will end up trading him this offseason,” Rapoport said. “They’re going to have interest.”
Jones turned 27 in September. He is currently signed through the 2026 season thanks to the two-year, $8.4 million contract he inked with the 49ers last offseason.
That deal has since paid off for the Niners, who have lost Purdy to all but two games this season amid multiple stints sidelined with toe injuries.
Jones has meanwhile led the team to a 5-3 record in Purdy’s absence, completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 2,151 yards with 13 touchdowns and six picks over that span.
He is now likely to return to his previous QB2 position as Purdy prepares to return to the field for Sunday’s Week 11 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.
Shanahan said in a Thursday appearance on KNBR’s Dirty Work that Jones understood his starting role had been temporary and had an “awesome” reaction to Purdy’s return.
“I’m really pumped to have him this year, and I’m really pumped that we have him next year also,” Shanahan said.
Jones has proven his value to the 49ers by helping the team stay in the playoff race while Purdy was sidelined.
Depending on the price other quarterback-needy teams would be willing to offer for Jones this offseason, however, the Niners may ultimately consider a potential trade regardless of his fit behind Purdy in the depth chart.
NEW DELHI: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has joined the debate surrounding Dhruv Jurel’s red-hot form and his potential inclusion in India’s playing XI for the upcoming Test series against South Africa, starting November 14 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!Ganguly, speaking at an event, praised the young wicketkeeper-batter’s purple patch but admitted that breaking into India’s settled Test line-up will be a challenge.“He’s playing well, isn’t he? Rishabh is back and I don’t know what the selectors are thinking. Basically, the spots are taken — two openers, (Shubman) Gill at four, Pant at five, KL (Rahul), (Ravindra) Jadeja are there. Players have performed. How easy will it be to open up a slot for Dhruv Jurel at this stage, I wouldn’t know,†Ganguly said.
No off days as captain Shubman Gill, coach Gautam Gambhir arrive in Kolkata for Test series
“But it depends on whom they want to send at No. 3 — whether they want to go with Sai Sudharsan, or bring in our in-form Dhruv in. We’ll find out.â€The 24-year-old Jurel has made headlines with back-to-back centuries against South Africa A in Bengaluru, making a compelling case for selection. His remarkable consistency in red-ball cricket — over 1,000 runs in nine matches at an average above 80 — has turned him into one of India’s most promising batting talents.

Should Dhruv Jurel be included in India’s Test XI against South Africa?
The former skipper also tipped India as overwhelming favourites at home, highlighting the team’s formidable spin attack and recent form.“Because India’s spin attack is very good. And this young team went to England three months ago and played exceptionally well. It was a fantastic series — exceptional performances by Gill, Yashasvi (Jaiswal), Rahul, Pant. India are a bundle of talent,†Ganguly said. The two-match Test series will conclude in Guwahati from November 22 to 26, followed by a three-match ODI series. With Rishabh Pant returning from injury and Jurel in scintillating touch, the Indian selectors now face a happy headache — a contest between stability and form.
The most talked-about tournament in golf at the moment has nothing to do with the PGA Tour or LIV. Instead, it’s an online spectacle featuring dozens of the game’s biggest influencers. The tournament was filmed months ago and is currently being released one episode at a time on YouTube.
“Golf is this incredible vehicle for entertainment,” Barstool Sports “Fore Play” podcast host Sam “Riggs” Bozoian said on this week’s episode of Subpar. “That’s why YouTube golf exists. It’s not just to see good golf shots.”
Case in point: The above-mentioned Internet Invitational, a made-for-You-Tube tournament hosted by Barstool Sports and Bob Does Sports, which features 48 personalities competing for a $1 million grand prize. The tournament has been an immediate hit, racking up millions of views online as soon as each episode posts — despite the fact that the episodes are lengthy, with Episode 1 clocking in at nearly four hours long.
Part of the tournament’s allure? A villain’s sudden emergence in Episode 1. (GOLF’s Dylan Dether provided an excellent breakdown of the situation here, but in short: competitor Luke Kwon missed his tee time, which upset his teammates, and Kwon exhibited zero remorse. Shocking!)

‘Internet Invitational’ produces jaw-dropping villain — and millions of views

What does Bozoian, who captained one of the Internet Invitational teams, make of the reaction to Kwon? He shared his take with Subpar hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz in studio.
“It’s funny because when we were looking back, after we finished, we’re all happy. We all thought it went well,” Bozoian said. “We all thought the drama was crazy. And looking back, I didn’t even think about the Luke Kwon situation. That’s how many other things happened and like, how good it gets. It didn’t even occur to me.
“I was the captain of the opposing team, so I was already happy that he slept in and I already said thank you to him, but I would go up to him again and be like, the best thing that happened was you sleeping in,” he continued. “It took over the internet. It sucks for him. And, like kind of a crazy amount of piling on for someone that just slept in. So I honestly feel bad for Luke Kwon to a degree, and he could have handled it better afterwards.

“We all could handle sh– better in our whole lives, so whatever. But for him to then go to like, this super villain because he just like slept in and then wasn’t overly apologetic, it’s like probably not worth how much sh– he’s gotten.”
Bozoian said the criticism Kwon received often comes with the territory when Barstool is involved.
“We will call you out for your bullsh–,” he said. “We will hold everybody accountable and people will like, gravitate towards conflict. It’s sort of how Barstool operates.”

In the photo above, the lie is so preposterous, it looks like a prank. It isn’t.
It actually occurred in a recent tournament in which a friend of the Etiquetteist was competing.
Talk about bad luck. Stripe a drive down the fairway, and your ball not in a divot hole but on the divot itself.
Not fair, right? But life’s not always fair. And neither is golf.
Sometimes, you get what you get and you’re not entitled to get upset. At least, you’re not entitled to do anything about it. The guidelines of the game make this clear. Under Rule 9.1a, a “ball at rest on the course must be played as it lies,” except when the Rules allow for relief.
In the case of a dislodged tuft of turf, relief is not permitted.
The same is true if your ball settles in a divot. Bad lie? Too bad. Some people think that rule should change. Among them: Bernhard Langer. In a 2022 interview with GOLF.com, the Ageless One argued that “we should be dropping out of divots” because “divots are made by us.”
The former longtime broadcaster Peter Kostis takes a similar stance.
“If a sand-filled divot isn’t ground under repair,” he once said, “then I don’t know what those words mean.”
The counter-argument holds that changing the rule to allow for relief from divots would lead the game down a slippery slope. What, exactly, qualifies as a divot? On this matter, the thinking goes, certain golfers would be bound disagree. In just a matter of time, players would be seeking relief for the slightest imperfections. And from there, anarchy!
The Etiquetteist agrees. He believes the rule should remain as is. But that doesn’t mean it should apply in every round we play.
To borrow from Bobby Jones, there is tournament golf and regular golf, and they are not at all the same. Nor should they be treated identically. In regular golf, with our friends, we should do our best to play by the rules. But when plainly ridiculous scenarios arise — like, for instance, the lie in the photo above — and there’s no need to protect the field; reason should prevail.
Might there be disagreements on what counts as ridiculous? Sure, there might. But in most cases, golfers playing in a casual match are capable of coming to a consensus. And when they can’t, they bring to the argument to the bar after the round, which is entertaining in itself.
If you’re dead-set on avoiding those types of disputes, your best bet is to establish the conditions of your match before you start. Make it explicit on the first tee that no matter what happens, no matter how absurdly bad a lie you draw, you are going to play it as it lies.
That, too, has potential benefits, as you never know what might happen next. You might wind up with a memorable story.
That’s what happened to the guy the Etiquetteist mentioned up top. Abiding by the rules, he played his approach from the loose toupee of turf and knocked it on the green from 185 yards out.

With it only being October, it would seem a little too soon to be thinking about WrestleMania 42 plans. That’s not the case for one Dave Meltzer, however, who is already looking six months ahead to WWE’s marquee event, particularly when it comes to what may be in the cards for two of WWE’s top stars, Roman Reigns and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.
The WrestleMania discussion for Reigns and Rollins came up on Tuesday’s edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio,” as Meltzer and co-host Bryan Alvarez discussed the upcoming Australian Street Fight between Reigns and Rollins’ stablemate Bronson Reed this weekend at Crown Jewel. While Alvarez believed there was a chance Reed could win in his home country, Meltzer was more skeptical, largely because he sees WWE looking towards Rollins vs. Reigns as the big match.
“I think that they’re building towards Rollins and Reigns,” Meltzer said. “They’re definitely…there’s no Roman Reigns-Seth Rollins match before, at the earliest, January. And I doubt January, because I’m sure they’ll both be in the Royal Rumble. So, you know, I think it’s probably WrestleMania, just as a guess.”
Rollins and Reigns fought each at WrestleMania 41 this year in a three way match that also involved CM Punk, which saw Paul Heyman screw over Reigns and Punk to help Rollins win, leading to the creation of The Vision. While Reigns has continued to feud with The Vision since, he has mostly faced off against Reed and Bron Breakker. Rollins meanwhile has seen his focus primarily on Punk and more recently Cody Rhodes, who he’ll face for the Crown Jewel Championship this weekend.

Everybody’s working for the weekend. How about this? Come Sunday, we’ll have the final and decisive day of the 45th Ryder Cup taking place at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y. We will have Week 4 of the NFL season unfolding, including a game taking place on Team Europe’s side of the globe, in Dublin, Ireland. And we have the final day of the 2025 MLB regular season happening, determining division winners and wildcards for the postseason. That is one heck of a Sunday Funday.
I can share with you that I have tickets to win the pennant on the Mariners, Yankees, Phillies, and Mets. I can say that I believe the 49ers will beat the Jaguars on Sunday afternoon. But we are back here, as always, to focus on golf, and I do indeed have a few predictions on just what might happen at the highly anticipated biennial competition known as the Ryder Cup.

The Ryder Cup begins on Friday. Two-person teams from the U.S. will be matched against two-person teams from Europe. Both foursomes (alternate shot) and four-balls (best ball) formats will be played for the first two days with both morning and afternoon sessions. Sunday is reserved for one-on-one singles matches only. A full point is earned for a match won. Half a point is earned for each side in a match that ends in a tie. As the defending champion, Europe retains the trophy is the entire event ends in a tie. You can bet on this being the end result at roughly 12-1.

1 Ryder Cup dilemma is hiding in plain sight
By:
Sean Zak
The Ryder Cup has been dominated by the home team in recent years. The United States won 19-9 at Whistling Straits in 2021 and Europe won two years ago in Rome 16.5-11.5. The last time the visiting side triumphed was at Medinah Country Club, not far outside of Chicago, in 2012. Team Europe staged a massive comeback that Sunday to win 14.5 to 13.5.
I’m not sure it will be that close this time around, but I don’t believe it will be a blowout either. Every member of the European side has prior Ryder Cup experience. Seven of the 12 players representing Team Europe played in the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black — that is more than the five that were there for the U.S. side. There are four Ryder Cup rookies on the U.S. team: Griffin, Henley, Spaun, and Young. Being from the area however, Cameron Young has played this course several times, probably more than anyone on either team.
The general plan in recent Ryder Cups played on American soil has been to set up the courses to cater to the bombers. Bethpage Black is absolutely a beast of a golf course that favors the bigger hitters but here in 2025, I believe you can argue that the European side is longer off the tee overall. Given the experience and current form, I believe the European roster is better overall. Going back to the FedExCup Playoffs, both Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood are recent winners on Tour and Rory McIlroy just won the Irish Open. Two weeks ago at the BMW Championship at Wentworth, Tyrrell Hatton, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Viktor Hovland all finished top 5. Of course, Scottie Scheffler, Ben Griffin, and J.J. Spaun just finished first, second, and sixth, respectively, at the Procore Championship in Napa. The New York crowd will be a factor for sure and I do believe the United States is justified in being the favorite to win, but I do feel the price is a bit high.
I mentioned that I feel this competition will be close. Taking a possible tie out of the equation, I would make the U.S. around -140 or -145 to win the Ryder Cup with Europe being around a +120 or +125 underdog. Seeing a current offering of Europe around +170 to win, looks like good value to me.

In Ryder Cup pay controversy, debate misses 1 simple thing
By:
James Colgan
Las Vegas native and Hall of Fame bookmaker, Nick Bogdanovich, who is now the Director of Trading at Boomer’s Sportsbooks in Nevada, is seeing this play out similarly to the way I do.
“This one figures to be a thriller. The European squad is definitely better but USA wants this one bad. They’re triple-focused,” said Bogdanovich.
He went on to add this interesting note. “Keegan Bradley stepping aside and not playing is really good karma. I think they (United States) win somehow, someway.”
The consensus seems to be that this will be close. Yes, +170 is probably good value on Europe to win — but will they?
I am going to treat it this way and make a bet on each side.
Team Europe to Win by 1-3 Points (+400)
Team USA to Win by 1-3 Points (+350)
If we are correct in figuring this to be a closely fought battle, then we turn a profit. If we do get a thriller and one of our tickets cashes, that would be my ideal scenario. Then I can rejoice and start worrying about the 49ers, Mets, Phillies, Mariners, and Yankees.
The Warriors’ situation with Jonathan Kuminga has become much more complex than anticipated. But as a 13-year NBA veteran, Draymond…
