Mac Jones led the San Francisco 49ers to a shocking 26-23 upset over the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday, but not before his day began in very bizarre fashion.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, “That morning at the team hotel in Marina del Rey, Jones told teammates he was on his balcony when he looked out at the water and saw a floating dead body. Someone called the police. As the 49ers loaded buses for the stadium, players watched investigators and even a coroner’s van pull into the marina. On Friday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the incident was still under investigation.”
Jones was able to put the jarring episode behind him, throwing for 342 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the win. He dealt with a sore knee, cramping and even vomited during the game, as Russini noted, but he persisted.
“He played his ass off, man,” Niners’ head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters. “He was unbelievable in the first half. He got banged up there in the second half and battled through it. He protected the ball and, going against that defense and throwing the ball that many times, not having a turnover and protecting the ball like he did, I can’t say enough good things about Mac.”
Jones has been a revelation in backup duty for the Niners, throwing for 905 yards, six touchdowns and one interception while completing 66.7 percent of his passes and taking five sacks in three starts this year for the injured Brock Purdy. The Niners have been beset by injuries in general—Nick Bosa, George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings were among the other players out on Thursday night—but somehow have managed to open the season with a 4-1 record.
The ICC Womenâ€s World Cup 2025 was rocked on Thursday when former Pakistan captain and commentator Sana Mir came under heavy criticism for an on-air remark referring to “Azad Kashmirâ€.During Pakistanâ€s opening match against Bangladesh, while describing batter Natalia Pervaiz, Mir said: “… Natalia who comes from Kashmir, Azad Kashmir, plays in Lahore a lot of cricket. She has to come to Lahore to play most of her cricket there.â€The comment sparked a massive social media backlash, with Indian fans tagging the ICC and BCCI, accusing her of politicising the broadcast. Mir later posted a three-paragraph clarification on X, stating her words were taken out of context and aimed solely at highlighting the playerâ€s challenges and resilience: “There is no malice in my heart or any intention to hurt sentiments.†She also shared a screenshot of her research source, noting it had since been updated.Meanwhile, Pakistan struggled on the field, being bowled out for 129, with Bangladesh chasing 131 for 3, powered by Rubya Haiderâ€s unbeaten 54 and Shorna Akterâ€s three wickets, to secure a seven-wicket victory.
Who is Sana Mir?
Sana Mir, now 39, is one of Pakistanâ€s most iconic women cricketers, widely regarded as a pioneer in the sport for her country. A former captain of the Pakistan womenâ€s cricket team, she led the side for nearly a decade, becoming the first Pakistani woman to reach 100 wickets in T20 internationals and one of the leading wicket-takers in womenâ€s ODIs.Beyond her on-field achievements, Mir has been a mentor and inspiration for young female cricketers, advocating for womenâ€s cricket development in Pakistan. She has also represented Pakistan in multiple ICC Womenâ€s World Cups and T20 World Cups, earning respect for her consistency and sportsmanship. After retiring from competitive cricket, Mir transitioned into commentary and cricket analysis, sharing her insights on international broadcasts and continuing to shape the narrative of womenâ€s cricket globally.

The Miami Dolphins are 0-3 to start the season, so they might need a fresh look to change things up.
And they will have just that for Monday’s AFC East showdown against the New York Jets.
Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and the rest of the Dolphins took the field at Hard Rock Stadium wearing their “Dark Water” uniforms, which are largely dark with the team’s colors sprinkled in through various locations:
“On September 29, the Dolphins will debut their newest uniform against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football as part of the Nike Rivalries Collection,” the team’s official website explained.
“This design is unlike any before, featuring dark aquatic tones made to represent a team who hunts in dark waters. Complete with orange accents and sleek dark blue touches throughout, these uniforms are as fierce as the competition between longtime rivals when they meet in prime time.”
Eight teams in total are participating in the Rivalries uniform looks in 2025, with the AFC East and NFC West participating.
The Arizona Cardinals became the first team to wear their designs during Thursday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Miami is hoping for a better result than Arizona and its first win of the season. The Dolphins lost to the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills to start the 2025 campaign.
They should at least be relatively fresh for Monday’s contest, as the Week 3 loss to Buffalo came on Thursday Night Football. Not playing until Monday in Week 4 means they have enjoyed something of a mini-bye ahead of the game against the Jets.
New York is also 0-3, so there figures to be some desperation on the field Monday.
