Tensions are starting to run high for the Cincinnati Bengals, who lost their second straight game on Monday night in a 28-3 defeat against the Denver Broncos.

After a sideline incident with head coach Zac Taylor late in the game went viral, Ja’Marr Chase wrote on X “I play with passion” and also seemed to have a sense of humor about the situation in another post.

The incident occurred in the third quarter when Chase walked up to Taylor on the Bengals’ sideline. Cincinnati’s star receiver was seen talking to his coach about something.

It seemed rather innocuous, but given how the Bengals’ offense has been playing with Joe Burrow out of the lineup, it’s not difficult to imagine everyone on the team being frustrated right now.

Asked about the situation after the game, Taylor praised Chase’s passion and desire to win.

“Ja’Marr, coming off a game like this, is one of my favorite players… he’s a captain that competes his tail off. … I love Ja’Marr … When I’m done coaching, he’ll be one of my favorite players,” said Taylor.

Cincinnati’s three points against the Broncos were its fewest in a game since Week 4 of the 2023 season. The Bengals also had just 159 yards of total offense.

After going 2-0 in games started by Burrow, the Bengals are now 0-2 with Browning as their starting quarterback. They have scored a total of 13 points in those games.

Chase caught five passes for 23 yards on Monday. It was his fewest yards in a game since Week 18 in 2023 when he only played 31 out of 64 possible offensive snaps when the Bengals had already been eliminated from playoff contention.

Coming off a 2024 season in which Chase led the NFL in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, he is currently averaging the fewest yards per game (66.0) and yards per reception (10.2) of his career with just one touchdown catch through four games.

Things won’t get easier for the Bengals on a short week, as they host the Detroit Lions on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.

The University of Virginia was fined $50,000 by the ACC after fans stormed the field at Scott Stadium on Friday night following UVA’s 46-38 double overtime upset of No. 8 Florida State.

The ACC said in a statement the fine was incurred for “violation of the league’s event security policy.”

Fans waiting on the grass hill behind the north endzone rushed onto the field after Cavaliers defensive back Ja’son Prevard intercepted a pass meant for Seminoles wide receiver Squirrel White to seal UVA’s first home win over a top-ten team.

The $50,000 fine will go toward a scholarship fund for ACC student-athletes attending graduate school, according to the league.

A UVA spokesperson told WRIC’s Clare Gehlich that 19 people had been treated at UVA Health University Medical Center after the field rush.

The ACC implemented field rushing fines in new policies announced ahead of the 2025-26 academic year, which directed member football and basketball programs to ensure “that only student-athletes, coaches, officials, and authorized personnel are allowed in the competition area before, during, and at the conclusion of any competition.”

Virginia was fined $50,000 for a first offense of this policy. A second violation in men’s basketball, women’s basketball or football will cost the school $100,000, followed by a $200,000 fine for any subsequent incidents, according to the league.

Field rushing penalties have been increasing across the NCAA. The SEC introduced a flat $500,000 fine for rushing the field ahead of this season, which was implemented earlier this month after Mississippi State fans ran onto the field following a win over then-No. 12 Arizona State.

Two weeks after his unanimous-decision victory over Canelo Ãlvarez, Terence Crawford celebrated Saturday with a parade in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.

The Ring magazine provided full coverage of Crawford’s parade, which saw the undefeated fighter show appreciation for his supporters while making his way down the streets of Omaha:

Once the parade was over, Crawford addressed the crowd while on stage and also spoke directly to his mother and grandmother, saying, “We made it.”

The mayor of Omaha, John Ewing Jr., presented Crawford with the key to the city, which made for a funny moment when Crawford asked what the key opens:

Several notable stars sent video messages to congratulate Crawford, which was played on a big screen. They included rapper Eminem, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, UFC president Dana White and volleyball player Brooke Nuneviller:

Despite being 41-0 and having held world titles across four different weight classes, Crawford was a decided underdog going into his clash with Canelo.

That was largely due to the fact that Crawford had to move up in weight in order to face Ãlvarez.

That didn’t seem to matter for Crawford, as “Bud” was the decidedly quicker and more effective fighter, taking the action to Canelo en route to winning the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring super middleweight titles.

Crawford improved to 42-0 with that victory, and he may have cemented himself as the unquestioned No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

It is unclear what’s next for Crawford, or if he even plans on fighting again, but he finally has a signature win under his belt against a boxer who was the face of the sport for the past several years.

Florida State wide receiver Squirrel White was reportedly unharmed after University of Virginia students stormed the field Friday night to celebrate UVA’s 46-38 upset win over FSU.

According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, White made it into the locker room with the rest of the team after the game, and he is “OK.”

With Florida State trailing by eight in overtime, Seminoles quarterback Tommy Castellanos hoisted a pass into the end zone on fourth-and-12, hoping White could make a miraculous play.

Instead, Cavaliers defensive back Ja’son Prevard came down with the interception, ending the game and sending hundreds of UVA fans running onto the field at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia.

White, who was on the ground at the conclusion of the play, quickly disappeared amid the sea of fans. While there was concern that he could have potentially gotten trampled, the senior wideout reportedly emerged unscathed.

Despite the disappointment of potentially missing the 2025-26 season because of a torn ACL, Houston Rockets point guard Fred VanVleet is maintaining an optimistic outlook as he prepares to start rehabbing the injury.

In a video posted on X that starts with messages in the wake of his knee injury before showing him walking into the doctor’s office for surgery, VanVleet vowed to “knock this lil s–t” out in reference to his rehab and recovery.

VanVleet suffered the injury during a workout as he was preparing for the start of training camp with the Rockets. He had surgery to repair his knee on Thursday, per an announcement from the team.

The Rockets haven’t officially said VanVleet will miss all of the upcoming season, but post-surgery recovery ranges from six to nine months. If that timeline follows, late-March would be the absolute earliest he could be back on the court.

News of VanVleet’s injury was particularly crushing because the Rockets made a big move in the offseason to acquire Kevin Durant with the goal of becoming a Finals contender after winning 52 games last season.

Houston still possesses a lot of high-level talent, including Durant, Alperen Şengün and Amen Thompson, but the lack of a proven point guard does leave a significant void without an obvious solution.

The hope, presumably, will be that Reed Sheppard, the No. 3 overall draft pick in 2024, can emerge as a reliable option after playing a total of 654 minutes as a rookie. Aaron Holiday is also going to be a huge piece for head coach Ime Udoka.

VanVleet averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 60 starts for the Rockets last season.

The fan who caught Seattle Mariners superstar catcher Cal Raleigh’s 60th home run ball and gave it to a child was rewarded for his generosity on Thursday in the form of getting to meet Raleigh before the Mariners’ game against the Colorado Rockies.

Ahead of Seattle’s 6-2 win over Colorado on Thursday, Raleigh took photos with the fan and his family, and he gifted the fan a personalized, autographed bat:

According to Andrew Destin of the Associated Press, Raleigh also gave the fan two autographed baseballs, which he subsequently gave to his sons.

The fan, known only by his first name Glenn, caught Raleigh’s historic home run ball during Wednesday’s 9-2 win against the Rockies, and he handed it to a young boy who was nearby.

Per Destin, Mariners staff escorted the boy and his father away from their seats to get the ball authenticated, and the boy traded the ball for a Raleigh autographed bat and the chance to watch batting practice on the field.

Raleigh hit a pair of homers during Wednesday’s game, and the second one during the eighth inning cemented his place in baseball history.

He became the seventh different player to ever hit 60 or more home runs in a season, joining Babe Ruth, Roger Maris, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds and Aaron Judge.

Raleigh is also the first switch hitter and the first player who is primarily a catcher to hit 60 homers in a single season.

With three games remaining in the regular season for the M’s, Raleigh still has a chance to tie or break the American League single-season home run record.

Judge, who stars for the New York Yankees and is in the midst of a nip-and-tuck AL MVP race with Raleigh, set the record in 2022 by hitting 62 home runs, which broke the record of 61 set by Maris in 1961.

Raleigh and the Mariners start a season-ending, three-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night, with Raleigh needing two homers to tie or three to surpass Judge’s mark.

The Mariners’ season won’t end there, though, as they have clinched their first AL West title since 2001 and will make only their second playoff appearance since 2001 as a result.

The Seattle Seahawks had some fun on social media after extending their winning streak over the Arizona Cardinals to eight games with a 23-20 victory on Thursday night.

First, the Seahawks created their own custom bone temple graphic of Arizona helmets from the film 28 Years Laterto troll the Cardinals.

The team quickly followed that up with a Toy Story 3clip featuring Mr. Potato Head in his tortilla form and the pigeon that attacks him on a ledge.

The old saying of “to the victor goes the spoils” has the Seahawks feeling good about themselves right now. They have won eight straight games against their NFC West rivals dating back to the 2021 season.

In addition to their recent dominance over the Cardinals, the Seahawks have won three straight games since their Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

For all of the concerns that were raised about Seattle’s decision to replace Geno Smith with Sam Darnold, the offense has been good through four games, scoring 27.8 points per game. He went 18-of-26 for 242 yards and one touchdown on Thursday night.

The defense, which was expected to be the team’s strength, has lived up to the hype. It may not be at the Legion of Boom-era level of dominance, but the unit has held each of its first four opponents to 20 points or fewer.

Since Week 2, the Seahawks have allowed 268.0 yards per game. They gave up a season-low 253 yards to the Cardinals.

Until the Cardinals can stop this losing skid against their division rivals, the Seahawks will continue to post about their triumphs. These two teams will meet again in Seattle on Nov. 9.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was asked about ex-NFL signal-caller (and current ESPN analyst) Cam Newton’s recent criticism of him on First Take amid the team’s struggles, in which he pointed to the ex-Alabama star’s $212.4 million contract, compared it to other quarterbacks making less and playing better and essentially said he’s lacking a “chip on his shoulder” these days.

Tagovailoa provided this response.

“Well, anyone can play quarterback in this league, then. I mean, I want to see anybody on the streets come and play quarterback. I mean, Cam’s doing his thing, for sure, but you know, I think it’s easier to be able to hold a clicker and talk about it that way, or talk about what someone else is doing wrong when you’re not going out and having to do the same as them, right? So I think it’s easy to do that. I think anybody can do that. I don’t think anybody can play quarterback.”

Newton made his remarks after Miami fell to 0-3 (h/t Josue Pavon of Clutch Points).

“Tua Tagovailoa is making more than Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Baker Mayfield, Matthew Stafford, Jayden Daniels. Am I pocket watching? No, no, no. I’m putting things into perspective here,” Newton said. “What did Biggie say, ‘More money, more problems.’ In this case, it should be more money, more expectations. When I see Tua Tagovailoa over this year alone, I’ve heard him more than I ever have.

“That’s not to say you can’t talk. I like quiet Tua, Alabama Tua, Chip on the shoulder Tua, not somebody going to come in and watch film.”

Newton also added: “What you’re being paid, what you’re being asked to do, what you have the capability of. From one quarterback to another, I look at a situation, it’s like bro, come on, dog. Especially when you got a Ferrari and Lamborghini, and other amenities that some quarterbacks wish they had.”

Tagovailoa is clearly capable of much better play. He led the NFL in yards per attempt (8.9) and quarterback rating (105.5) in 2022. In 2023, Tagovailoa threw for an NFL-high 4,624 passing yards. And then in 2024, Tagovailoa’s 72.9 percent completion rate was a league-best mark.

The 2025 season has included a rough start for Tagovailoa and the 0-3 Dolphins. Tagovailoa has notably thrown a costly interception in each of his last two games, including one with his team down 28-21 but driving deep in enemy territory in the final three minutes of an eventual 31-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills last Thursday.

For the season, Tagovailoa has thrown five touchdowns and four interceptions while amassing 191.7 passing yards per game, down from 260.6 the year before.

He and the Dolphins will look to get in the win column on Monday when they host the New York Jets.

Kyle Lowry is joining a new team, without leaving his current team.

Prime Video announced Thursday that it has hired Lowry — the Philadelphia 76ers guard who is about to enter what will be the 20th season of his pro career — as an NBA on Prime analyst. It’s a multiyear deal, with Lowry “making select appearances” this season, Prime said, adding that he will have “increased responsibilities in the future.”

NBA on Prime’s coverage of the league will begin Oct. 24 with a doubleheader, Boston at New York followed by Minnesota at the Lakers. Lowry is expected to have some role that night; the 76ers do not have a game that evening.

“I’m excited to start the next chapter of my basketball journey with the Prime Sports team,” Lowry said. “The talent they’ve assembled is incredible, and together we’ll deliver something fresh and special for basketball fans worldwide. It’s an honor to be part of this from Day One, and I’m committed to sharing the insights I’ve gained from my career through NBA on Prime for years to come.”

Lowry transitioning to television seemed inevitable when his playing days end — whenever that happens. He has enormous popularity among his fellow players, as well as coaches, some of whom have noted that he sees the game differently than many players do. And that ability should serve him well in the new role with Prime Video.

“Kyle’s a throwback,” Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said of his former point guard last year. “You can’t just look at his numbers or his points per game or whatever. It’s the impact that he has on winning.”

The 39-year-old Lowry played his college ball at Villanova before entering the NBA in 2006. He’ll be only the 12th player in NBA history to be in the league for 20 or more seasons and just the second point guard to achieve that feat; Chris Paul, now of the Clippers, played his 20th season last season with San Antonio.

Lowry is a six-time NBA All-Star, won an Olympic gold medal with USA Basketball at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, was part of the Toronto team that won the NBA title in 2019 and has said many times that he will retire — somehow — as part of the Raptors, even if it means only signing a one-day contract to make that a reality.

“We look forward to Kyle’s contributions to our team both this season as an active player and in the future,” said Amina Hussein, Prime’s head of on-air sports talent in the U.S. “His authentic personality and deep understanding of today’s game will offer viewers unique analysis as we deliver NBA coverage that celebrates the game and educates fans around the world.”

Prime Video joins the NBA coverage world this season with the league’s 11-year, $76 billion series of rights deals set to begin.

Amazon will show 66 NBA regular-season games on Prime Video this season, with Thursday night doubleheaders beginning in January, Friday evening doubleheaders, select Saturday afternoon games, and the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game of the NBA Cup in-season tournament.

Prime Video will also show all six games in the play-in tournament, then has part of the league’s playoff coverage as well.

Travis Hunter has an elite new streaming studio courtesy of EA Sports.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ two-way star teamed up with the gaming company to build a “first-of-its-kind, custom streaming studio” inside his house in Jacksonville.

The studio features three monitors, microphones, cameras and of course a PlayStation 5. It also includes some of Hunter’s framed jerseys, his Heisman Trophy and a handful of other memorabilia from his career.

Hunter has emerged as a star on the football field, but he’s also built a brand off the field as a creator. He has a YouTube channel with more than 500,000 subscribers where he posts vlogs, training videos and more. His Twitch channel, where he streams video games, has more than 100,000 followers.

“Gaming and making content is just what I have been doing my whole life when I am not playing football,” Hunter said. “I’m just being me — and the camera being on lets fans come have fun with me. This setup is going to take my content to the next level, so big thanks to EA SPORTS for being great partners and taking care of me.”

Hunter, who has had a solid start to his NFL career, now has an upgraded space to stream and entertain fans off the field when he’s not entertaining them on the field.
