It can be argued that Jon Moxley and the Death Riders are at a bit of a crossroads. After dominating AEW for almost a year, the group has suffered two setbacks over the last few months, with Moxley losing the AEW World Championship to “Hangman” Adam Page at All In, and then quitting against Darby Allin in an I Quit match this past weekend at WrestleDream. That last defeat, following Moxley’s vow that he would never quit, particularly stings, and one could argue calls into question his entire aura within his stable.
As is the case most big defeats in wrestling, it also opens the door for Moxley to disappear into the shadows for awhile and return later with a new focus. Alas, Bully Ray doesn’t believe that will happen. On Monday’s “Busted Open Radio,” the two-time Hall of Famer cited the fact that Moxley didn’t go away after losing to Page as a sign that he is likely to stick around on TV. That’s not the worst thing in the world, however, as Bully laid out a path he believes AEW can take to end Moxley’s heel run and turn him back babyface.
“So now we get Moxley losing to Darby, to the Sharpshooter and … the bat, the Coffin Drop, the Sharpshooter,” Bully said. “Now, Moxley should screw off again. But I see a very good reason for Moxley not to go home yet. … If Moxley is going to stick around because AEW has main event roster issues with injuries and people not being on TV right now, … it is time for AEW to tell the story of Jon Moxley and Renee Paquette, and how Renee finally gets in Jon’s ear. … Behind every man is a stronger woman. Renee needs to be that stronger woman. If somebody can turn Jon Moxley back into a babyface, it is Renee Paquette.”

MILWAUKEE — Max Muncy was inches away from hitting a grand slam for the Los Angeles Dodgers to open the scoring in the National League Championship Series.
Little did he know his 404-foot drive instead would end the top of the fourth inning in one of the most incredible plays of this or any postseason.
“Itâ€s definitely the worst fielderâ€s choice/double play Iâ€ve ever hit in my life,†Muncy said after the Dodgers†2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1.
Hereâ€s how Muncyâ€s potential grand slam turned into an unusual 8-6-2 double play:
With the bases loaded and one out, Muncy hit a long drive to center field, where Sal Frelick jumped and reached over the wall in an attempt to make the catch.
The ball popped out of Frelickâ€s glove and hit the top of the fence before Frelick caught it in the air. Muncy wasnâ€t ruled out because the ball hit the wall — but the Dodgers†runners scrambled back to their bases thinking the ball was caught on a fly.
“I didnâ€t see it hit the wall,†said Will Smith, who was on second base. “I just thought he kind of brought it back in and caught it.â€
Frelick fired to shortstop Joey Ortiz, who quickly relayed a strike to catcher William Contreras. Aware a force was still in effect, Contreras alertly stretched for the throw with his right foot on home plate, rather than position himself for a tag that would have been necessary if the ball hadnâ€t hit the wall.
Contreras caught the ball before Teoscar Hernández slid across the plate, forcing out Hernández after he had hesitated at third base.
“Teo knows the rule. I think right there he had just a little bit of a brain fart, appreciating that when it does hit the glove, you can tag (up) there,†Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “But then he tagged, did it correctly, then saw he didnâ€t catch it, (and) he went back. That was the mistake. But he owned it. And after that, thereâ€s nothing else you can do about it.â€
After the force out at home plate, Contreras smartly got up and jogged to third to force out Smith, too.
Smith had gone back to second when he thought Frelick made a clean catch.
“From home plate, I had a pretty good view of it,†Contreras said through an interpreter. “I could tell pretty much right away it hit off the wall. Right away once it hits off the wall, you know that ball is played live. Tremendous job by the guys there just doing what we needed to do to finish that play off.â€
As all of it was developing, Frelick had his arms out with a quizzical look on his face, wondering what exactly had just happened — not unlike many fans.
The Dodgers challenged the call, but a replay review confirmed the force outs at home and third for a most unusual inning-ending 8-6-2 double play.
Umpires called it correctly in real time all the way through the play.
“Honestly, I didnâ€t know they ruled it a no-catch,†Roberts said. “I just wanted clarity on the whole situation. And then kind of making sure that they got a couple of force outs, which they did. And ultimately, those guys and replay, the guys on the field got it right. They nailed it.â€
At 404 feet, it was the second-longest projected distance on a batted ball resulting in a double play since Statcast tracking began in 2015 — regular-season games included. For Muncy, it goes down as a grounded-into-double play, even though the ball didnâ€t touch the ground.
There had not been an 8-6-2 double play in the postseason over the last 35 years, the Elias Sports Bureau said. Those type of official scoring details are not always clear in records going back any further.
The most recent 8-6-2 double play in the regular season involved a ball hit by Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa to Cincinnati center fielder Ken Griffey Jr. in April 2004 — though that one ended with a tag at the plate.

Cal State LA had a tough time from the service line, recording five aces and 14 errors, while the Warriors had six aces and 11 errors.
Cal State LA was in control through the first two sets. The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 8-4 lead and kept the Warriors at arm’s length the rest of the way. Kills by DaCoud and Cetin gave the Golden Eagles a 19-14 lead and a kill by Oluwatoyin Sunday and an ace by Juliana Speiski gave the Golden Eagles a 21-16 advantage. Kills by DaCoud and Landers got the Golden Eagles to set point at 24-18 and a kill by DaCoud ended the set.
The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as four points early in the second set, but took the lead for good after an 8-1 run that turned an 11-8 deficit into a 16-12 lead. The Golden Eagles scored the final three sets of the frame on two kills by Cetin and one by Speiski to take a 2-0 lead.
Cal State LA took a 16-14 lead in the third set and was tied at 22-22, but Stanislaus State fought back to win the final three points and force a fourth set.
The final set was close throughout and Cal State LA trailed 21-19 before the match-clinching 6-0 run.
Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with first place on the line in a home match against Cal Poly Pomona at 5 p.m.

TRENDING RUMORS
– Manchester United are keeping close tabs on the situation of midfielder Jobe Bellingham at Borussia Dortmund, according to TEAMtalk. Despite only signing in the summer, it is reported that the 20-year-old is now weighing up his options following “heated exchanges” with manager Niko Kovac, and dressing-room issues with his father, and could look to push for a move away in January. United are reported to see his technical ability and physicality as two factors that could improve their midfield, but there could be competition from Crystal Palace. Bellingham has been named on the bench in five of the last six matches.
– Al Nassr and Al Ittihad are interested in Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, reports TalkSPORT. The two Saudi Pro League clubs are reportedly at the front of the queue to sign the 31-year-old, with Al Hilal no longer expected to push forward with an approach for him. It is reported that an offer in excess of £60 million will be required to land him, though any potential move isn’t expected to take place until next summer, with Fernandes keen to stay at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

– A new approach for Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz is being lined up by Chelsea, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The Blues are ready to return to the negotiating table for the 20-year-old after previously looking to sign him during the summer, but Barcelona are also monitoring the situation. Aware of interest from Europe, the Bianconeriwant to keep Yildiz in Turin, and negotiations over a new contract are ongoing with his father, who is also his agent.
– Juventus want to sign Bayern Munich left back Raphael Guerreiro, Tuttosportreports. The Serie A club believe the 31-year-old would solve several tactical issues for manager Igor Tudor and hope to take advantage of his contract situation. Guerreiro’s deal at the Allianz Arena will enter its final six months in January, and Bild’s Christian Falk says that while the Bundesliga club have no plans to offer him an extension, they won’t be prepared to part ways in the next transfer window unless they find a replacement.
– Real Madrid are prioritizing a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, according to AS. Los Blancos have decided against signing a midfield reinforcement in the summer amid plans to land the 21-year-old, who they see as a similar profile to former player Luka Modric, while being a strong fit for their current transfer policy. The Eagles are expected to dismiss any offers short of €80 million for Wharton, with his contract at Selhurst Park not set to expire until the summer of 2029.
EXPERT TAKE
ESPN’s Sam Tighe looks at the future for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham.
It’s been a dramatic start to Bellingham’s Borussia Dortmund career. A sum of £27m plus add-ons was paid in order to rush him through the door in time to participate in the Club World Cup, suggesting the 20-year-old was front and center in manager Niko Kovac’s mind.
However, since the start of the 2025-26 season, he’s been on the outside looking in, totaling just 300 minutes in all competitions, as Kovac more frequently turns to a midfield combination of Marcel Sabitzer and Felix Nmecha. That’s led to some reported disgruntlement from the Bellingham camp.
For now, he’ll just have to be patient. Dortmund have started the season extremely well, look unusually solid and are unbeaten in the Bundesliga. An opportunity will arise at some stage, so he needs to be coiled and ready to spring.
Jumping ship to Manchester United so soon would be a huge mistake — especially given young, developing players have not exactly thrived at Old Trafford in recent years. That said, they are crying out for the type of athleticism and energy Bellingham brings to a midfield, so it would be understandable if the Red Devils are indeed keeping a watchful eye on this situation.

John Cena is focused on the present.
At WWE Elimination Chamber, John Cena shocked fans when he turned heel and attacked Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. What started as an exciting new creative path, however, eventually turned sour due to a glaring absence from Dwayne “The Rock†Johnson at WrestleMania 41 and a variety of other factors.
While appearing at Fan Expo Chicago, Cena was asked how he would approach his heel run differently had he known that The Rock, who involved himself in Cenaâ€s initial turn at Elimination Chamber, would remain on the sidelines afterward.
“What Iâ€m hearing is in a hypothetical universe, what different choices would you make? I will answer that with hindsight is a waste of time,†Cena said. “Letâ€s live right here and now in the excitement and adventure. We got 11 dates left. I think Iâ€ll be able to talk about all this bupkus in January after the whole thing is over. But weâ€ve taken the audience on a on a hell of a ride this year. We still got a ways left to go, so Iâ€m excited about that.â€
John Cena knows his heel run failed too
The fan initially set up the question by saying Cena expressed his frustration with that stretch during a promo he did on WWE SmackDown. This came during his SummerSlam feud with Cody Rhodes, which fans thought signaled him turning babyface again. Cena noted that he wasnâ€t upset by the crowdâ€s reaction to it, though he did feel the heel run was unsuccessful.
“I wasnâ€t upset. I just know I failed,†he said. “Ainâ€t nothing wrong with that. You can learn from failure, right? I went out there and bombed. Sh*t happens, guys.â€
The 17-time world champion eventually returned to his babyface form on the August 1 episode of SmackDown, two days before his Undisputed WWE Championship rematch against Rhodes at WWE SummerSlam. As of this writing, Cena has five dates left on his retirement tour, one of which will pit him against AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel.

Nuno EspÃrito Santo has said West Hamâ€s players are willing to change and have taken responsibility for the teamâ€s poor form of the past 18 months.
Nuno, the clubâ€s third manager since the departure of David Moyes at the end of the 2023-24 season, is hoping to shift the mood in the dressing room after replacing Graham Potter last weekend. West Ham have been short of leadership and there is an acceptance in the squad that they played a part in Potter losing his job after eight months.
“I find a nice group of people,†Nuno said. “They are starting to realise that we have to change things. If we donâ€t change, things will be the same. They are willing to change. I can see it. So letâ€s embrace it and letâ€s change it.
“It goes from technical, tactical, physical, mentality, respect, communication. Communication is such an important tool for us. We still donâ€t have it fully. It has to be a fair and clear communication that we share. They have accounted themselves responsible and are willing to go.â€
Nuno has had little time to adjust. He does not have his backroom staff yet and the former Nottingham Forest manager is not thinking about what West Ham, 19th before visiting Arsenal on Saturday, can achieve this season. “My task is simple,†Nuno said. “Itâ€s tomorrow.â€
A big concern for Nuno is improving his sideâ€s defending at set pieces. West Ham have shipped eight goals from corners this season – the latest concession came in Nunoâ€s first game, Mondayâ€s 1-1 draw at Everton – and will be under sustained pressure from dead balls against Arsenal. The worry for Nuno is that it becomes a psychological issue.

“It can,†he said. “But we will try to avoid it. The worst thing that can happen is that if an opponent gets a corner we start immediately thinking that we are in trouble. It can become a trauma.â€
Manchester United have now gone 12 years since winning the title after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson – and they’re a long way from returning to those lofty heights.
The Red Devils won the Premier League 13 times during the first 21 years of the division’s existence, but have gone through six different permanent managers since Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
This season, Manchester United currently sit 14th in the Premier League under Ruben Amorim, after finishing 15th last term.

Nicky Butt was part of the legendary Class of 92 that spearheaded Manchester United’s dominance under Ferguson, and has teamed up with former team-mate Paul Scholes and presenter Paddy McGuinness for a new podcast, entitled The Good, The Bad & The Football.
FourFourTwo visited a recording of the podcast and spoke to Butt about his thoughts about the current Manchester United side.

“If they get top half this season, I wouldn’t be happy, but you’d take that now because it’s going to be a slow time to get back to where we want to be,” Butt told FFT. “We’re a long way off.”
Asked which summer signing he was most excited about, he said: “I think Matheus Cunha. He’s got Premier League experience with Wolves, he did an amazing job down there, and he came in and started off really well. He’s had his injury, but I’m excited to see him this season.”

As for which player from Ferguson’s great Manchester United team that Butt would put into the current team, he said: “Probably Roy Keane. I think he’d shake them up a little bit and do an unbelievable job of being the manager on the pitch if you like, and the captain.
“There’d be a lot of good quotes coming from him too, that would be interesting.”
Who could succeed Ruben Amorim?

Butt was also asked about his overall thoughts on Manchester United’s decline, and their struggles under Amorim.
“Fundamentally, the club is rotten from the bottom at the minute,” the former midfielder told us. “Sack Amorim tomorrow and who’s coming in? No-one knows, no-one can give you a name.

“If you brought prime Sir Alex in there, he wouldn’t be able to turn it around straight away, it would take time. You put Pep in there, or Klopp, and it wouldn’t work.”

While it’s still early, the Philadelphia Flyers may have found themselves a hidden gem in winger prospect Nikita Grebenkin, who continues to impress in the NHL preseason and training camp.
Grebenkin, 22, has begun to understand his role as a support player and power forward of sorts, and even admitted last week that he “didn’t understand” his coach in the KHL.
“I go here and Coach Tocc [tells] me, ‘It’s your game, tough game, you’re a big guy, hard-working, it’s good for you. You get points and you score here’, Grebenkin had said. “I don’t want to stay long time behind the net, but now I understand. It’s good for me. It’s my game.”
Grebenkin got to the net again against the New York Islanders on Thursday night, screening superstar goalie Ilya Sorokin on Travis Konecny’s second-period one-timer goal to help give the Flyers a 2-1 lead.
And, although the Flyers did ultimately lose by a narrow 4-3 margin, Grebenkin again proved that he can hang with players like Konecny and Sean Couturier and make plays.
“He made that goal, and he’s a sticky guy. He comes up with loose pucks, support. You always need those corner guys that could come up with pucks,” Tocchet said of Grebenkin after the loss. “If we can continue to teach him to play that way, he can be a real force out there.
“I think in the first period, he almost split the D. That’s good stuff. We want that from him, so I hope he continues to do that.”
Flyers Roster Prediction 1.0: Nikita Grebenkin Secures Big Opportunity
Following multiple roster cuts on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Flyers have only a handful of decisions to make before they reach their final roster for the start of the regular season.
Grebenkin finished Thursday’s exhibition game with three shots on goal in a relatively modest 14:07 of ice time, and this was a game where the Flyers had only one power play opportunity.
We’ve seen the blossoming Russian wreak havoc in the crease to create a goal more than once this preseason, and that tool should be equally or more useful with the man advantage as the Flyers’ coaching staff grows more and more comfortable with him.
At this point, we can consider Grebenkin a virtual lock to make the Flyers’ final roster, with a few players still left jostling for a roster spot. Jett Luchanko and Rodrigo Abols, however, have not done enough consistently enough to leave Grebenkin in limbo on this roster.
Also of note: Owen Tippett played alongside Trevor Zegras and Matvei Michkov on Thursday night, and all three forwards stumbled to an unproductive outing that saw them each finish with -2 ratings.
Grebenkin played with those two in the first preseason game of the slate, and it could be a look the Flyers return to if Zegras and Michkov can’t find chemistry with Tippett soon.
The opportunities are there for the taking, and should Grebenkin continue on this upwards trajectory, he could easily be a pleasant surprise for the Flyers in the top-nine forward group.

Over the past few years, Jey Uso has become a major part of the men’s singles division in WWE, with both World Heavyweight and Intercontinental title runs under his belt. Things have quieted down for Uso somewhat, but speaking on “Kliq This,” Kevin Nash shared his belief that there are two potential directions Uso’s story could be headed in, and both seem significant.
“I think Jey’s still gonna turn,” Nash said. “Or do they go and get the tag belts? The brothers. And have a f***ing year and a half run with the belts.”
Nash’s podcast was recorded ahead of Monday’s “WWE Raw,” which featured Jimmy and Jey Uso getting their win back over Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed of The Vision. That could lend credence to the theory that they’re headed for a tag title reign. On “Raw,” the World Tag Team Championship is currently held by Finn Balor and JD McDonagh, though they haven’t defended the belts since July.
A heel turn for Jey is another very real possibility, however. The former world champion has been wearing his frustration on his sleeve in recent weeks, and though Roman Reigns making his return on Monday’s “Raw” seemed to help alleviate some of those emotions, there are still many different ways this story could play out.
It seems likely that the Usos are headed for a shot at the World Tag Team Championship, but the tension between the brothers could prevent them from re-capturing the title. Jimmy and Jey last held tag gold together in 2023; they then went their separate ways before reuniting this year.

WWE Hall of Famer “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry believes that if Randy Orton is to have another run as WWE Champion, it must be as a heel. In a recent interview, Henry made a passionate case for Orton to return to his heel roots, arguing that “The Viper” is one of the few superstars in history who is definitively better as a heel than a babyface.
Orton has been a beloved fan favorite since his return from a career-threatening back injury, but Henry feels that a return to the heel persona that defined much of his career is the “tailor-made” story for his next main event run. Speaking with TMZ, the former World Heavyweight Champion explained exactly what he wants to see from a future Randy Orton championship reign.
“I wouldn’t want Randy to be champion as good guy Randy. I want Randy… the story is tailor made. Have Randy come in now and start punting people again, RKO’ing people’s grandmothers and children. Have him stomping people. Let Randy be Randy.â€
He emphasized that Orton’s greatest strength has always been his ability to be a compelling and hated villain.
“I don’t know if you can say more definitively that a guy’s a better heel than he was a babyface.â€
Henry also compared Orton’s current situation to that of John Cena, who is in the midst of his farewell tour.
“I think Randy wants to be in the same regard as Cena. He deserves it too. But while Cena is doing that, you can’t actively have two people doing the same story.â€
