NEW DELHI: Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik on Saturday praised Rohit Sharma for his leadership, impact, and influence on the Indian cricket team during his tenure as ODI captain.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!“Rohit Sharma. Thank you so much. You were a phenomenal captain — tactically astute, but most importantly, very, very friendly and got along with everyone, making them feel so comfortable. But for me, the legacy that you’ve left as a captain… in those big moments, those big matches, you taught this current team what it takes to win,†Karthik said in a video he shared on Instagram.
Rohit Sharma removed as India ODI captain, a glorious era comes to an end
Karthik highlighted Rohitâ€s approach to leading from the front, particularly during high-pressure games. “At times we used to take a backward step, but you said, ‘I think we need to press forward, put more pressure on the opponent, take more risks,’ and you didn’t leave it to anyone else. I think you started it with the bat—when in the big matches, you said, ‘I’m going to go harder,’ and that required skill. You got it done, and you did it consistently.â€
Poll
What do you think was Rohit Sharma’s greatest contribution as captain?
Under Rohitâ€s leadership, India won 42 of 56 ODIs, maintaining a winning percentage of 76. His tenure saw India lift two ICC trophies in 2024 — the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy — and finish runner-up in the ODI World Cup at home in 2023. Karthik also emphasised Rohitâ€s contribution to nurturing young talent and building a resilient side. “Asia Cup unbeaten with a young team… You’ve left it in a better place than what it was when you started, and that’s always a great sign of a leader.â€The Indian selectors on Saturday removed Rohit from ODI captaincy and handed over the reins to young Test skipper Shubman Gill ahead of the white-ball tour of Australia, keeping the 2027 World Cup in focus. Shreyas Iyer will serve as Gillâ€s deputy for the three-match ODI series starting October 19 in Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne, followed by a five-match T20 series.
Hulk Hogan is to be honored in Florida as part of the Clearwater Trail will be dedicated to the late wrestler. At a press conference, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis shared that a two-mile portion of the Clearwater Trail will be named in honor of the Hulkster.
I am proud to announce today that we are officially establishing the Hulk Hogan Trail on a 2-mile portion of the Clearwater Trail between Oak Avenue and Coronado Drive.
This portion of the Clearwater Trail will have much more than Hogan’s name. In his statement, DeSantis shared that the plan is for different exercise stations to be added across the two-mile path. These exercise stations will be easily identifiable with their red and yellow color scheme, another nod to Hulk Hogan.
Jimmy Hart was also part of the event, and was pleased to see Hulk receive another packed house, even after his death. Hart also reflected on what Clearwater means, both to himself and his late friend.
“This is where Hulk and I would do Karaoke every Monday night… and the last thing he said to me is ‘Jimmy Hart, I want you to do your song.’”
The Hulk Hogan trail is the latest tribute bestowed to the two-time WWE Hall of Famer in the months following his death. While Hulk Hogan has passed, Hulkamania continues to live on in Florida and beyond.
Former WWE star Jimmy Wang Yang says he felt uneasy about participating in Chris Benoitâ€s tribute SmackDown show.
In 2007, Chris Benoit killed his wife Nancy, their son Daniel and himself, creating one of the darkest moments in professional wrestling history. WWE aired a tribute show for him, unaware that he was responsible. The moment also saw company scrapping the storyline of Vince McMahonâ€s death.
Former WWE star Jimmy Wang Yang, who was on the roster at the time, recalled the situation and said he no longer cared about Chris Benoitâ€s wrestling skills because of his actions. On Cheap Heat Productions, he said, “I donâ€t care anything about his wrestling ability now. What he did disqualifies him, to me, as a wrestler. I remember that meeting we had in Corpus Christi, Texas. The week before, Vince got blew up by the limo, so we had the memorial service at Corpus Christi. So they bring us into the arena, and I sit down, and this is kind of a crazy story.â€
“Iâ€m looking around and I look behind me, and Bruce Campbell is right behind me, Army of Darkness. I was like, ‘Oh my god! Bruce Campbell! I f*cking love you!†Oh, sorry for cussing too much, but, ‘I love you! I love Army of Darkness, Ash, Evil Dead, all of this stuff! I wanna talk to you right after this.â€
“I turn around, and Vince is there, and all of a sudden I hear Vickie Guerrero screech, like, ‘Oh my god, no!†Iâ€m like, ‘Oh shit, what the f*ck?†Sorry for cussing again. Then I turn around, and Vince announced what happened, like, ‘They found Chris dead, his wife and his kid.’â€
Jimmy Wang Yang explains why he no-showed Chris Benoit tribute on WWE SmackDown
Jimmy Wang Yang initially struggled to process the news. He said he even tried to convince himself that the deaths might have been caused by a robbery. “I looked directly to Brian Kendrick, and looked at him, and it was like, ‘Yep, he finally did it huh? He finally snapped and did that horrible act.†We both thought the same thing from our previous experience with him.â€
“But, after that, I was like, ‘No, I donâ€t wanna think that, he did have this mansion in Atlanta, maybe somebody robbed him and killed him and his family.†It was crazy mixed emotions at that time. And then, the next day, they say weâ€re gonna do a tribute show to Chris the next day.â€
“My gut felt weird. Iâ€m like, ‘I donâ€t know if I wanna do a tribute match to Chris Benoit. I need to see some more facts about what happened and all that kind of stuff.†Then, during the day, all that stuff, things started to leak out.â€
As details emerged, he no-showed SmackDown and was later cleared by WWE despite initial trouble. “And I no-showed SmackDown, because I didnâ€t want to be part of anything associated with what happened, I said, ‘Iâ€m not going.†And I didnâ€t go to SmackDown, I no-showed SmackDown because I just didnâ€t feel comfortable.â€
“I had a bad feeling about what happened. I no-showed SmackDown, kinda got in trouble, but then it got cleared after everything came out. I just didnâ€t wanna be part of it. “Personally, I donâ€t give a shit what wrestling matches he did or all this other stuff. I donâ€t care. The last thing he did, that sticks with me, so yeah.†[H/T: Wrestletalk]

As a pro wrestling fan before a wrestling promoter, Tony Khan knows the significance of the arenas he books shows in, and often themes the show around the history of the building. Not too long ago, AEW held shows out of the fabled ECW Arena, where he gave tribute to ECW legend Taz as well as one other notable name. In an episode of his “My World with Jeff Jarrett” podcast, Jeff Jarrett explained how the tributes came to be as well as why they were significant.
“Tony did the, I would call it, the induction of Taz into the…Hardcore Hall of Fame, and so, you know, it’s my understanding that Tony was looking for ‘how do we pay tribute to the history of that arena?'” Jarrett said, adding that Blue Meanie and Jeff Jones explained to him how important the arena was to ECW. “[Tony] came up to me at the wedding and we had a quick conversation, and so I kinda got the heads up and started connecting the dots, and it all came together.”
Jarrett then praised Khan for his knowledge about wrestling and for his efforts to get names like Doug Gilbert, the younger brother of Eddie Gilbert, who booked ECW before Paul Heyman, and for giving a tribute to Eddie as well.Â
“There were so many different stories, and I got a chance to share just one of them in the tribute,” Jarrett noted, explaining how he and Eddie had a lot of history. “He was really good to me, I mean, when he came in and worked the Tennessee territory a couple times. I mean, we go so far back.”
Jeff Jarrett also recalled Sting’s touching tribute to Eddie Gilbert

AEW
Another notable name who made an appearance at the 2300 Arena was none other than “The Icon,” Sting, who also shared history with Eddie Gilbert. Looking back at Sting’s contribution to the tribute, Jeff Jarrett also praised his friend for sharing a story about Gilbert. “I knew, just as a real casual, Jim Hellwig – Ultimate Warrior – Steve Borden – Sting – came to Tennessee and they were the Blade Runners,” he noted, recalling how both men were hired by Bill Watts back in the day. “Immediately, those two guys got paired up with Eddie Gilbert. Behind the scenes, Eddie was booking, loved the business, and he tried to teach them.”
Jarrett noted that Sting’s tribute ended up bringing so much heart to the night and also praised Tony Khan for his vision for the event. “Sting said that it was the two years that he spent with Eddie Gilbert, and the next thing he knows he’s working main events,” Jarret added, recalling how Sting claimed this led to his legendary feud with Ric Flair. “And Sting, honestly and candidly said: ‘When I look on my career and look back on it, and Tony’s mindset to pay tribute’ and Sting admitted, which I thought was just incredibly vulnerable but so real, he’s like: ‘It gave me a real hard look to really think without Eddie’s tutelage and care and passion for the industry, and willing to help me, I don’t know if Sting has the career that he had…'”
‘Without Eddie Gilbert’s vision, is there an ECW?’
Eddie Gilbert’s time as the booker of ECW occurred when the promotion was still known as “Eastern Championship Wrestling,” before breaking away from the NWA and eventually being headed up by Paul Heyman. But, because of this, Jeff Jarrett believes that the legacy of ECW can’t be spoken of without Gilbert. “Eastern Championship Wrestling, the precursor to ECW, Eddie was the driver, Eddie was the visionary, Eddie was the booker,” Jarrett noted. “And so, when you think about Eddie’s position…without Eddie Gilbert’s vision, is there an ECW?”
Jarrett then pivoted back to Tony Khan, pointing out how anybody can be a fan of professional wrestling without knowing stats, but expressed how blown away he is that the AEW President understood the respect and position Gilbert had in the industry. “My hat’s off to Tony, because I’ll say: knowing the straw that stirred the drink, I just got so much respect for that. And Tony? That’s what his tribute was about, let’s pay proper respect to the guy that gave you the straw that really stirred the drink in Philadelphia,” he said. “There would not be an AEW Dynamite, Collision, for three consecutive weeks – a Ring of Honor pay-per-view – in that building had it not been for Eddie Gilbert’s vision.”

The Toronto Maple Leafs will celebrate the career of longtime play-by-play announcer Joe Bowen with a special tribute game.
On Dec. 16, the Leafs will host the Chicago Blackhawks — the same opponent Bowen called in his broadcasting debut on Oct. 6, 1982 at Chicago Stadium.
The 74-year-old announced in June that the upcoming season will be his last behind the microphone after 44 years as the voice of the Maple Leafs.
“Nobody represents the passion of Leafs Nation better than Joe Bowen and his signature voice has been the soundtrack for so many iconic moments for the team over the past 44 years,†said Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating Joe all season but especially making Dec. 16 a very special tribute to the man known as the ‘voice of the Maple Leafs.â€â€
The Sudbury, Ont., native was honoured with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018 and is set to call the 3,800th game of his career in January 2026.
“For 44 years I have had the greatest broadcasting job in the world,†Bowen said. “I truly have never ‘worked†a day since arriving in Toronto to do Maple Leaf hockey. I am very much looking forward to this final season and hoping that maybe, just maybe, this is the ONE!â€

In December 2020, AEW star Brodie Lee passed away of pulmonary fibrosis at 41 years old, with his death resulting in a wave of anguish among wrestlers and wrestling fans. Days after his death, AEW held a tribute show in his memory, resulting in one of the more beloved episodes of “AEW Dynamite” in the show’s history. Speaking with Forbes ahead of tonight’s six-year anniversary edition of “Dynamite,” Tony Khan reflected on the impact Lee left on everyone at AEW and around the wrestling world.
“We’re very proud of Mr. Brodie Lee and Jon Huber and what he brought to AEW,” Khan said. “Jon was a great guy in a wonderful family, and he loved wrestling. And it’s a testament to Jon Huber, and Brodie Lee as a wrestler, that the first two things anybody’s going to say about this guy are he loved his family, and he loved wrestling, and the wrestlers and people that he worked with.”
Khan praised Lee for helping invigorate the company in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when AEW was holding shows with a limited live audience at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. Looking back on the tribute show held in the wake of Huber’s death, Khan still feels they succeeded at honoring the wrestler’s legacy.
“I think that’s the singular best event in AEW history,” he stated.
The Brodie Lee Celebration of Life episode of “Dynamite” took place on December 30, 2020 at Daily’s Place. It included five tag team matches featuring people who knew and worked with Lee, and ended with Lee’s wife and two children being awarded a special TNT Championship belt before a tribute video played to close out the show.

An indie wrestler paid tribute to the Phenomenal AJ Styles, but faced criticism despite the sweet act.
On September 21, 2025, WrestlePro held its Killer Smokeshow event in Rahway, New Jersey, at the Rahway Rec Center. The main event featured Killer Kross facing Richard Holliday. The match card also included Max Caster defending the WrestlePro Gold Championship against CPA and a first-time singles bout between Mike Santana and Jordan Oliver.
During the headliner, Holliday landed a Styles Clash on Killer Kross, a move made famous by WWE star AJ Styles. The live commentator immediately called the use of the move ‘disrespectful,’ sparking debate among viewers.
After the show, Holliday posted a clip of the Styles Clash on X, writing,
Hey @AJStylesOrg I hit the Styles Clash on Kross and the commentator said it was ‘disrespectfulâ€. Cmon, seems pretty respectful to me!â€

Richard Holliday, who debuted in 2018, is known for blending athleticism with showmanship. His execution of the Styles Clash, lifting Kross and dropping him face-first, garnered both cheers and gasps from the Rahway crowd.
AJ Styles’ Signature Move Used by John Cena
This was not the first time someone delivered the Styles Clash on their opponent. On August 31, John Cena paid homage to one of the greatest rivals of his wrestling career by delivering the same move on Logan Paul at Clash in Paris.

The Rated-R superstar reciprocated it during AEW All Out by delivering the ‘You can’t see me’ taunt, followed by Five Knuckle Shuffle and the Attitude Adjustment.

A current WWE superstar paid homage to the legendary tag team The Hardy Boyz during this week’s episode of RAW.
Matt and Jeff Hardy are one of the most decorated and accomplished tag-teams not only in WWE, but in wrestling history. They are a 15-time world tag team champions across WWE, WCW, TNA and ROH promotions. As singles wrestlers, the brothers have done it all by themselves, with Jeff winning the World Heavyweight, WWE and TNA World Championships while Matt won the latter belt twice during the height of his “Broken” character.
On this week’s episode of RAW from Raleigh, North Carolina (Hardys’ home state), Bayley and Raquel Rodriguez squared off in a singles bout. During the match, The Role Model executed her version of Twist of Fate on Big Mami Cool outside the ring, paying tribute to the iconic brothers.
The homage didn’t end there when the competitors entered the squared circle. To set things up, Bayley dropped an elbow to Rodriguez from the top rope. The former multi-time women’s champion then went back to the top again and surprisingly delivered a Swanton Bomb, much to the delight of the fans in North Carolina.
Check out Bayley’s tribute below:
Unfortunately for Bayley, her Hardy Boyz callback wasn’t enough to beat Rodriguez, who defeated her with a Tejana Bomb following the interference of Roxanne Perez, her Judgment Day teammate.

Revealing their private exchange, Woakes had earlier told The Guardian: “I saw Rishabh Pant put an image of me on Instagram with a salute emoji, so I replied thanking him: ‘Appreciate the love and hope the foot is OK.†He then sent me a voice note saying: ‘I hope all is OK, good luck with the recovery and I hope we meet again out there some day.†I obviously said sorry for the broken foot.â€Pant, who was ruled out of the T20 Asia Cup 2025, will also miss the upcoming two-Test series against West Indies and is replaced by Dhruv Jurel in the Team India squad, with Narayan Jagadeesan remaining as backup wicketkeeper.

ST HELENS, England — Among the sea of flags decorating St Helens’ Stadium during Liverpool’s Women’s Super League (WSL) clash with Manchester United, there was one particularly poignant addition.
“Liverpool was made for Matt and Matt was made for Liverpool,” read the banner, displayed in tribute to the hosts’ former manager Matt Beard, who passed away last weekend at the age of 47.
Just eight days on from that devastating news, Liverpool fell to a 2-0 defeat to United on Merseyside thanks to goals from Hinata Miyazawa and Ella Toone. But, for head coach Gareth Taylor and his players, the challenges surrounding Sunday’s game extended far beyond matters on the pitch.
Fourteen of the 20 players in Liverpool’s matchday squad played under Beard before he was dismissed in February, following a string of disappointing results. Eight members of the team that started against United were signed by Beard, while more than half of defender Gemma Bonner’s 200 WSL appearances — a landmark she reached on Sunday — came under him at Chelsea and across two separate spells at Liverpool.
– Thakur: OL Lyonnes have spent big, but will it cause issues?
– Kassouf: Alex Morgan aims for the same heights in business
It was during that first period on Merseyside that both Beard and Bonner helped to deliver the club’s first ever WSL title in 2013, which they successfully defended the following season. The Liverpool fans in attendance against United honoured that feat with chants of “Matt Beard’s Mighty Reds” in the 13th and 14th minutes.
To many of those supporters, Beard was not just a football manager but a friend. After games at the club’s former stadium, Prenton Park — where they played until 2024, he could regularly be found signing autographs long after the final whistle, before joining fans for a postmatch drink at the pub next door.
It was a level of familiarity that defied Beard’s status as one of the most high-profile and successful managers in WSL history. But, in many ways, it was that easy-going persona which set him apart from his contemporaries and won the affections of so many within the women’s game.
“It’s rare for a football manager to be so loved by so many players,” Liverpool captain Grace Fisk said in a heartfelt tribute posted to the club’s website this week. “He coached hundreds of players but had interactions with many more and he just had this way of drawing people to him.
“We saw how competitive he was on the sidelines, so loud, rowdy and shouting your ears off one minute but then joking with you about it 20 minutes later. He just had this warmth about him and he cared so much about people. If you were playing badly or had a bad training session, he’d make you feel like your worries were just silly. I think the effect he had on everyone was really special.”

Indeed, the outpouring of emotion that has greeted Beard’s passing speaks volumes about the contributions he made to the world of women’s football. The London-born coach, affectionately dubbed “Beardy” by those who knew him, managed seven different clubs across a distinguished 17-year career, and played an integral role in advancing the professionalism of the women’s game.
After leaving Liverpool in 2015, he enjoyed spells in charge of NWSL side Boston Breakers as well as West Ham United and Bristol City. He rejoined the Reds in 2021 when the club was at its lowest ebb, having been relegated to the second tier the year prior.
With Beard back at the helm, Liverpool immediately secured promotion back to the top flight and, in the 2023-24 season, defied expectations by finishing in the top four despite their limited transfer budget. He helped turn Liverpool’s fortunes around and, in doing so, left an indelible mark, not just on the club but on the sport in general.
“I felt that [the players] all dealt with the emotion of it beautifully,” United boss Marc Skinner said after his team’s victory. “What I’d say, though, is there’s time for sadness, but we need to celebrate Matt’s life. I know [Beard’s wife] Debbie was in the stands and I know that she will want everybody to remember Matt exactly how he was in front of everyone.
“So, I promised everyone that I’ll keep talking about him in our environment so the memory of him will live strong. And so, as sad as it is, I think it’s now time to turn that into the happiness and remember him in the best possible way because he was an incredible human.”
For Liverpool, the task at hand is now clear. The Reds are yet to collect a point in the WSL this term — despite winning 5-0 against Sunderland in the League Cup in midweek — and the need to start picking up results is becoming increasingly pressing.
Disney+ becomes new home of Women’s Champions League in Europe

Disney+ will be the only place football fans can watch all 75 matches live each season. Visit the Disney+ website to get access.
Of course, achieving success at this level is much easier said than done, but the resilience Liverpool showed in the second half should, at least, inspire optimism that this team is up for the fight.
“I think this is a cracking group of people to work with,” Taylor said. “I think being at this club is super special. Each person who works here or plays here feels that, and I think there’s a lot of positives.
“The girls are excellent to work with, they really, really are. I think obviously now there’s a lot of transition going on; new staff, new way of playing potentially. Hopefully off the back of that there will be new expectations.
“That takes a little bit of time and trying to change the mindset here of the players a little bit. Trying to turn them into winners again, which we’ve been before under Matt, is a tough challenge.”
That challenge will continue when Liverpool take on free-spending London City Lionesses in the WSL next Sunday. A victory at Hayes Lane could mark the start of a new era under Taylor, though the memory of the man who laid the club’s foundations will live on forever.
