Amid continued interest from the Saudi Pro League, the Bundesliga champions now look set to join the race to sign Fernandes, whose transfer is valued at around the £70 million mark. – Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan have set their sights on FC Cologne wonderkid Said El Mala, says Bild. The 19-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough campaign in the Bundesliga, where he has already scored three goals in seven appearances. TRENDING RUMORS

– Liverpool are set to make contact with Borussia Dortmund over center back Nico Schlotterbeck, Christian Falk reports. Dortmund have offered the 25-year-old a new contract worth around €8m gross per year, but the Reds would be able to go higher and need to cover for Giovanni Leonis injury amid long-term doubts surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konaté, who has been linked with a free transfer to Real Madrid next summer. Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhiis also on Liverpool’s radar, while Bayern Munich could also move for Schlotterbeck.

– Tottenham Hotspur are willing to pay Harry Kane‘s release clause, which sources told ESPN is worth €60 million, and meet the wages required to bring the striker back from Bayern Munich, according to TEAMtalk. The 32-year-old is reportedly keen to return to the Premier League in a bid to chase down Alan Shearer’s league record of 260 goals, having scored 213 himself before moving to Germany. Manchester United also want to sign Kane and view him as a key player for their rebuild, but any chances of signing the England international hinge on improving their league position.

Juventus are set to offer the 20-year-old a contract renewal that will run until 2030, but they haven’t yet agreed on the finances. And Chelsea haven’t given up after seeing a €67 million offer to sign Yildiz rejected in the summer, while Arsenal and Barcelona are preparing to compete with them.

– Real Madrid and Barcelona both want to sign center back Dayot Upamecanoas a free agent when his contract at Bayern Munich expires in the summer, Footmercato reports. Los Blancos are looking to replace ageing duo Antonio Rüdigerand David Alaba, while the Barcelona could let Ronald Araújo depart and need cover. Manchester United are among the English clubs also interested in Upamecano, but the prospect of him staying at Bayern hasn’t been completely ruled out either.

EXPERT TAKE

ESPN’s Sam Tighe explores the future for Bayern striker Harry Kane.

When Kane finally sealed his blockbuster move to Bayern Munich in 2023, it only ever felt like “goodbye for now” to the Premier League.

Many assumed he’d be back at some point to chase down Alan Shearer’s record goal tally of 260 — and despite claiming to have never felt more settled in Bavaria, scoring 23 goals in all competitions for club and country as he hits top form, the rumours of a return grow ever stronger.

Kane’s brilliance is built on a natural goal-scoring instinct, pure ball-striking, game intelligence and a frankly incredible level of creativity for a No. 9. None of that will dim with age, so if harnessed correctly — i.e. not in some manic high-pressing system where he’s asked to sprint around — the 32-year-old has plenty of years left at the top.

He’s so good that teams like Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United should be happy to re-wire their entire tactical setup around him, ensuring he has pacy wingers to pick him out with long passes and room to drop deep and receive the ball wherever he wishes.

Typically speaking, you’d be mad to spend €60 million to sign a player who will turn 33 in 2026, but Kane is no typical case.

TRENDING RUMORS

– A race between Chelsea and Juventus could take place for Al Hilal midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Corriere dello Sport. The 30-year-old is set to enter the final six months of his contract in January and, having not yet signed an extension, multiple clubs across Europe (including Galatasaray and Fenerbahce) are tracking him with a view to getting him to sign a pre-contract agreement. The Serbia international has made four appearances in the Saudi Pro League side so far this season.

– Chelsea plan to offer midfielder Moisés Caicedo a new contract to ward off interest from Real Madrid, according to TEAMtalk. Los Blancos are reported to be one of the sides keeping tabs on the 23-year-old but, following several impressive performances so far this season, it looks as though the Blues are set to reward him with improved terms to stay put at Stamford Bridge. And Caicedo’s long-term deal in West London isn’t set to expire until 2031 already.

– Brighton will dismiss offers to sign midfielder Carlos Baleba in January amid interest from the Premier League. TalkSPORT reports that the Seagulls have no plans to part ways with the 21-year-old during the middle of the season, with hopes of dissuading interested sides by asking for a £120 million fee. Meanwhile, Manchester United are set to prioritize a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, 21, according to iNews, having placed him as their No. 1 priority ahead of Baleba amid their search for a midfielder. EXPERT TAKE

ESPN’s Madrid correspondent Alex Kirkland looks at the likelihood of Real Madrid landing Moisés Caicedo.

Real Madrid’s summer rebuild — signing three defenders in Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras, plus a wide forward in Franco Mastantuono — didn’t include a central midfielder, which for many fans and pundits, should have been top of the list.

So far this season, Xabi Alonso has tended to pick Aurelien Tchouameni, Fede Valverde and Arda Guler as his midfield three, with Jude Bellingham coming back into the picture after his recovery from shoulder surgery. The team have mostly played well, but in the two biggest games of Alonso’s tenure so far — the Club World Cup semifinal against PSG, and the derby against Atletico — they’ve come up short, and it’s hard to escape the feeling that, despite the qualities of Tchouameni, Valverde et al, they’re still missing a really dominant, tempo-setting midfielder.

Is Caicedo that player? A contract until 2031 is clearly an issue. Madrid only pay big transfer fees for the most elite prospects, like Bellingham, and that contract duration means a free transfer would be a distant prospect. Here in Madrid, there’s been no reporting yet that Caicedo is a serious target.

Robert Lewandowski is increasingly likely to leave Barcelona at the end of this season rather than renewing his contract, Diario Sport reports. This is said to be down to the 37-year-old striker’s age, a decline in form and an inability to press at the same pace as his teammates. The Blaugrana are already looking for replacements with Levante’s Karl Etta Eyong being identified as somebody who can compete with Ferran Torres for a starting berth up front — the 21-year-old Cameroon international has already scored four goals and registered one assist in five LaLiga matches since signing from Villarreal in the summer. His only strike so far this campaign came as he opened the scoring in Brentford’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea last month.

At his age, there is seemingly a feeling that Schade’s best years are still ahead of him, with Plettenberg noting that he could be ‘one to watch’ when it comes to his transfer future.

However, as Frank will be well aware, getting Schade out of Brentford is unlikely to be easy, even if Tottenham were to wait until next summer – as has been reported.

In FourFourTwo’sestimation, Brentford are in a strong position to command a very hefty fee for Schade, if indeed they are willing to get him go at all.

Brentford have consistently been willing to drive a hard bargain for their best players, particularly when they still have plenty of time left on their deals.

Newcastle had to shell out £55m to secure Yoane Wissa on transfer deadline day, while Bryan Mbeumo commanded a £65m when Manchester United came knocking earlier in the summer.

Schade joined for a reported £25m in 2023 and his contract is not set to expire until summer 2028, which means come the end of this season, Brentford will be in what is generally regarded as the prime time to sell a player for maximum value.

Manchester United’s recruitment department are keen for a more youthful appearance to the club’s midfield, if their recent scouting activity is anything to go by.

Ruben Amorim has been reassured publicly by Man United’s minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe that his job is safe for three years, which could mean the Portuguese coach takes charge of a line-up that features prospective signing Cristian Orozco in future.

The Colombian has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford but can only join upon his 18th birthday next July.

Orozco is not the only teenage midfielder Man United have apparently been taking a closer look at.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have taken Senegalese youngster Mouhamed Dabo on trial at the club’s Carrington training base.

Dabo is currently on the books of Be Sport Academy in his native Senegal but has attracted interest from Europe.

The central midfielder does not turn 18 until March 2026, meaning that due to FIFA regulations, the club are not yet able to make an official offer to sign the teenager.

Dabo is the captain of Senegal’s Under-17 side and recently helped his country qualify for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Per Romano’s information via a post on X (formerly Twitter), the formal stages of a transfer are yet to be activated, although news of a successful trial suggests a move could be made to secure his signature when he comes of age.

The rule that prevents players from overseas signing for English clubs before their 18th birthdays is part of FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP), specifically Article 19, designed to protect minors.

The earliest at which Dabo could be confirmed a Man United player is next June, once the summer transfer window opens, three months after the midfielder has turned 18.

TRENDING RUMORS

– Manchester United are keeping close tabs on the situation of midfielder Jobe Bellingham at Borussia Dortmund, according to TEAMtalk. Despite only signing in the summer, it is reported that the 20-year-old is now weighing up his options following “heated exchanges” with manager Niko Kovac, and dressing-room issues with his father, and could look to push for a move away in January. United are reported to see his technical ability and physicality as two factors that could improve their midfield, but there could be competition from Crystal Palace. Bellingham has been named on the bench in five of the last six matches.

– Al Nassr and Al Ittihad are interested in Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, reports TalkSPORT. The two Saudi Pro League clubs are reportedly at the front of the queue to sign the 31-year-old, with Al Hilal no longer expected to push forward with an approach for him. It is reported that an offer in excess of £60 million will be required to land him, though any potential move isn’t expected to take place until next summer, with Fernandes keen to stay at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

The Blues are ready to return to the negotiating table for the 20-year-old after previously looking to sign him during the summer, but Barcelona are also monitoring the situation. Aware of interest from Europe, the Bianconeriwant to keep Yildiz in Turin, and negotiations over a new contract are ongoing with his father, who is also his agent.

– Juventus want to sign Bayern Munich left back Raphael Guerreiro, Tuttosportreports. The Serie A club believe the 31-year-old would solve several tactical issues for manager Igor Tudor and hope to take advantage of his contract situation. Guerreiro’s deal at the Allianz Arena will enter its final six months in January, and Bild’s Christian Falk says that while the Bundesliga club have no plans to offer him an extension, they won’t be prepared to part ways in the next transfer window unless they find a replacement.

– Real Madrid are prioritizing a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, according to AS. Los Blancos have decided against signing a midfield reinforcement in the summer amid plans to land the 21-year-old, who they see as a similar profile to former player Luka Modric, while being a strong fit for their current transfer policy. The Eagles are expected to dismiss any offers short of €80 million for Wharton, with his contract at Selhurst Park not set to expire until the summer of 2029.

EXPERT TAKE

ESPN’s Sam Tighe looks at the future for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham.

It’s been a dramatic start to Bellingham’s Borussia Dortmund career. A sum of £27m plus add-ons was paid in order to rush him through the door in time to participate in the Club World Cup, suggesting the 20-year-old was front and center in manager Niko Kovac’s mind.

However, since the start of the 2025-26 season, he’s been on the outside looking in, totaling just 300 minutes in all competitions, as Kovac more frequently turns to a midfield combination of Marcel Sabitzer and Felix Nmecha. That’s led to some reported disgruntlement from the Bellingham camp.

For now, he’ll just have to be patient. Dortmund have started the season extremely well, look unusually solid and are unbeaten in the Bundesliga. An opportunity will arise at some stage, so he needs to be coiled and ready to spring.

Jumping ship to Manchester United so soon would be a huge mistake — especially given young, developing players have not exactly thrived at Old Trafford in recent years. That said, they are crying out for the type of athleticism and energy Bellingham brings to a midfield, so it would be understandable if the Red Devils are indeed keeping a watchful eye on this situation.
