Samoa Joe on AEW Dynamite

AEW/Lee South

Retirements have been the talk of the town when it comes to professional wrestling over the last few years, especially in companies like WWE and AEW where the likes of Sting and Bryan Danielson have already hung up their boots, and both John Cena and AJ Styles aren’t too far behind them. Another man who believes he is in the twilight of his career is Samoa Joe, who is still competing at the highest level as he will challenge Hangman Page for the AEW Men’s World Championship at AEW WrestleDream on October 18. Joe has already admitted publicly that once his current contract with AEW expires, he will likely call time on his career, and during a recent interview with “SHAK Wrestling,” Joe was asked if that was still the plan.

“I’d say most likely, and honestly I think it’s for a lot of reasons and I think most of them are responsible,” Joe said. “Obviously, you know you never want to outstay your welcome in this industry and I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been able to be involved with it for over 25 years now….The other thing too is you know, I think many of us want to preserve what we can of our health for our latter years. So it is something that is probably the most likely scenario, but hey, it is an unusual world and unusual opportunities come up, so we’ll see.”

When asked if he was willing to share a specific date on when that retirement might be, Joe stated that he would rather do things in a more casual way. “It might be a surprise. It might just be one day I’m gone and leave it at that. I’m not as ceremonial as everybody else you know? I like disappearing into the sunset.” Joe went on to explain that he has always had his sights set solely on the future of the business, and wouldn’t want to stand in the way of a younger talent who wants to grow and improve just so he can have one last dance in the spotlight.

When wrestlers retire, they don’t stray too far away from the business as there are a number of opportunities for performers to stay with major companies in both backstage and on-screen roles where they don’t have to get physical. Joe has already tried his hand at commentary during his time recovering from injury while working for WWE, and when he was asked about potentially donning a headset once again, the former AEW World Champion admitted that he is open to any and all opportunities.

“Honestly, whatever role will have me. Like once again, I’m not worried about what it is I’ll do, that’s not an issue for me. I mean you plug me in wherever, I’ll do whatever it takes to help us as much as we need to be helped in that area. But yeah I mean I think I definitely would live to have some involvement with the industry. I’d love to work with younger athletes and help them develop and become better, obviously if they choose to want to work with me, but yeah I mean that’s really it.”

Joe rounded off by saying that he wants to help younger talent become stronger and stronger so that the fans can benefit in the long run, and that the legacy he wants to leave behind is that if he manages to help around ten wrestlers become better because they worked with him, then he will be very happy with himself.

Jeff Kassouf covers women’s soccer for ESPN, focusing on the USWNT and NWSL. In 2009, he founded The Equalizer, a women’s soccer news outlet, and he previously won a Sports Emmy at NBC Sports and Olympics.

United States forward Trinity Rodman has a Grade 1 MCL sprain and will be sidelined for an unspecified amount of time, Washington Spirit head coach Adrian Gonzalez said Friday. There is no timetable for her return.

Rodman is expected to miss the U.S. women’s national team’s upcoming games against Portugal and New Zealand due to the knee injury sustained earlier this week. U.S. Soccer has not announced Rodman’s withdrawal from training camp, and Gonzalez said he could not answer whether she would miss time with the USWNT.

The NWSL playoffs begin in three weeks. Rodman is one the best players in the NWSL and a focal point of the attack for Washington, which recently clinched the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

“We are going to take this day by day,” Gonzalez told reporters. “Every player is completely different.”

Rodman’s injury occurred on Wednesday, just a few hours after U.S. Soccer announced her return to the team after a six-month absence, and USWNT head coach Emma Hayes told reporters she was “super excited” to have Rodman back on the roster. Rodman last played for the USWNT on April 5.

“She’s one of the best players in the world, and we’ve had to play without her for more than a year,” Hayes said about Rodman on Wednesday prior to the forward’s injury.

Rodman was helped off the field in tears during Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Mexican side Monterrey in the final game of group play in the Concacaf W Champions Cup. She was unable to put pressure on her right leg. She was later seen on crutches and in a full knee brace.

“She’s at the facility today starting the rehab; she’s doing good,” Gonzalez added. “The results that we got are the best scenario. Obviously, an injury is not always a good situation. It’s not as bad as it could be. She’s starting now the rehab.

“She has an MCL sprain. It’s not too big, too much, but we need to see how she’s doing every day, start the rehab today, and try to support her in this situation.”

Washington’s victory on Wednesday clinched the Spirit a spot in next year’s semifinals of the regional championship, which serves as qualification to FIFA’s forthcoming world club competitions.

Rodman’s status for the NWSL playoffs is also uncertain. There are two games remaining in the NWSL’s regular season. The playoffs begin on Nov. 7. The NWSL Championship takes place on Nov. 22.

Rodman has dealt with a recurring back injury for over a year. Her appearance for the USWNT in April — when she scored six minutes into a 2-0 win over Brazil — is her lone international cap since the Olympic gold medal game in August 2024.

The Spirit clinched the No. 2 seed in the NWSL playoffs for the second straight season. Last year, Washington finished second in the regular season and runner-up to the Orlando Pride in the NWSL Championship.

Rodman played through back pain during that stretch and said after her team’s loss in the final in November 2024 that it was “not an excuse but I wasn’t the Trin that I wanted to be today” due to her back pain.

“All players are different,” Gonzalez said on Friday. “We are taking care of every player as an individual in terms of how we prepare [for] the weeks, the games, and trying to individualize as much as possible the loads. Obviously, every player has a different background, and we always are taking care of those details.

“Right now, we need to focus on day by day, try to help her to recover, to heal as best as possible, and let’s see how she’s progressing every day.”

The U.S. will play Portugal on Oct. 23 in Chester, Pennsylvania, and again on Oct. 26 in East Hartford, Connecticut. The Americans wrap up the window against New Zealand in Kansas City on Oct. 29.

The Kansas City Chiefs bolstered their offensive line during the 2025 NFL draft when they selected left tackle Josh Simmons in the first round, and the Ohio State product immediately made an impact while starting the opening five games.

However, he missed the most recent win over the Detroit Lions and remains away from the team leading into Sunday’s AFC West showdown against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Here is a look at a timeline of how the left tackle’s absence reached this point.

Oct. 6: Late Addition to Injury Report Before Jaguars Game

The Chiefs added Simmons to their injury report just hours before their Monday Night Footballkickoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5 and listed him as questionable because of an illness.

He ended up playing the game, which Kansas City lost 31-28.

Oct. 12: Added to Injury Report Before Lions Game

The Chiefs announced the day of their Week 6 game against the Lions that Simmons was added to the injury report and questionable, noting it was “Not Injury Related—Personal.”

Oct. 12: Simmons Reportedly Out for Family Issue

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafoloreported Simmons was added to the injury report because he was “dealing with a family matter back home in California.”

They added it was “doubtful he’s back for the game.”

Oct. 12: Misses Lions Game

Simmons did not play in the game against Detroit, which Kansas City won 30-17. Jaylon Moore played in his place.

Oct. 15: Simmons Misses Practice

Simmons missed practice Wednesday for what was officially listed as personal reasons on the injury report.

Oct. 15: Andy Reid Deflects Questions

Head coach Andy Reid told reporters he was deferring questions about Simmons’ status and letting general manager Brett Veach handle the situation.Â

Oct. 15: Patrick Mahomes Comments

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes told reporters, “I’ll keep conversations kind of between us. But I’m always praying for him. I’m praying for all my teammates, so I’m always praying for him. I’ll just keep everything else kind of private to us.”

Oct. 17: Simmons Ruled Out vs. Raiders

The Chiefs announced Friday that Simmons will not play in Sunday’s AFC West rivalry game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

On the Chiefs’ injury report, Simmons was listed as a non-participant in practice throughout the week due to “not injury related – personal.”

Moore is in line to make his second straight start for the Chiefs at left tackle.

The Chiefs are scheduled to face the Raiders on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in their second of three straight home games before a Week 9 road matchup against the Buffalo Bills and a Week 10 bye.

Unfortunate status of Seth Rollins amidst injury rumors.

At Crown Jewel, Seth Rollins defeated Cody Rhodes to become the Men’s titular champion. The match was action-packed and featured several memorable spots, including a Coast-to-Coast from the World Heavyweight Champion to the Undisputed WWE Champion. However, this may have cost The Visionary.

On the following Monday Night RAW episode, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed attacked Seth at the end of the show, kicking him out of The Vision. Many were shocked that this happened quite early in their partnership, and reports stated that this was a way to write off Rollins because he injured his shoulder at the PLE from the spot.

Although nothing is official yet, further reports regarding Seth Rollins’ future in WWE continue to be negative. According to Dave Meltzer on the recent Wrestling Observer Radioepisode, Rollins may be out for a long time after RAW and might even miss WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas in April next year.

Earlier reports stated that Seth may have to undergo rotator cuff surgery for his shoulder, which involves repairing a torn tendon in the shoulder by reattaching it to its original site on the upper arm. The timeline of recovery for this type of procedure may take 4 to 6 months, and possibly even 12 months to fully recover in some cases.

Dave Meltzer Predicts Bron Breakker Could Get Involve In The World Heavyweight Title Picture If Seth Rollins Vacates

Other things Dave Meltzer discussed in the episode were that WWE might announce Seth’s future tomorrow on SmackDown or possibly next week on RAW. Regarding the future of the World Heavyweight title, he suggested that a tournament could be held with Bron Breakker winning, and CM Punk could face the winner, as he is now the Number One Contender.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy offered an update on his injured high ankle sprain on Wednesday.

“It’s getting there,” he told reporters. “I wouldn’t say it’s 100 percent. … We’ve got to be smart and understand there’s a lot of things that go on. I’m just going to do what I’m told and try to get better.”

McCarthy, who was limited at practice on Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, added that “a lot of well-respected second opinions” from medical professionals offered an initial recovery timeline of anywhere from two to six weeks, and “we’re still in that.”

The second-year quarterback first suffered the injury on Sept. 14.

His backup, Carson Wentz, is also dealing with an injury to his shoulder, though he was a full participant in practice on Wednesday. Head coach Kevin O’Connell has said he wants McCarthy to be 100 percent recovered before he returns to play.

“I think the big thing is just getting him back on the grass in uniform, practicing, getting real live reps of a pass rush and taking drops and applying some of the things that he’s worked really hard on as of late as he’s kind of gotten to that phase of his rehab,” O’Connell told reporters regarding McCarthy. “Then when he does that, instant dialogue about what he’s able to do and what it felt like and, ‘Hey, let’s log that away.’ And then if he doesn’t do the same thing, it’s going to be [the same]. I’m having a blast coaching him. It started last week when he was able to really start ramping up a little bit as he gets there and that one-on-one work and then obviously the work he does with [assistant coaches] is going to be critical.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been handed a blow after discovering how long his skipper Martin Odegaard will be sidelined for.

The 26-year-old suffered a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury during his side’s 2-0 victory over West Ham on October 4, when he was subbed off after just 30 minutes in what was Arteta’s 300th match in charge of the club.

The club would initially rule the Norway star out until the current international break without setting a timeline for his return, but have now confirmed when they expect him to be fit again.

Now, according to the BBC, Odegaard is not expected back until after the November international break.

This means that the Gunners captain will miss Premier League fixtures against Fulham, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Sunderland, plus Champions League clashes against Atletico Madrid and Slavia Prague.

Arsenal’s first match back after the November break is a north London derby against Tottenham on November 23, a match which Odegaard will be targeting to make his return.

Arteta will be aware, however, that this latest problem came after Odegaard was forced off during the first half of three consecutive Premier League matches.

Spain international Mikel Merino has been Arteta’s first-choice replacement for Idegaard, who struggled with a shoulder injury, slotting in alongside Declan Rice, with Martin Zubimendi sitting behind them.

Other options to replace the former Real Madrid man in his usual role include summer signing Eberechi Eze and homegrown talent Ethan Nwaneri.

Arteta addressed Odegaard’s absence following the West Ham match, saying: “Yeah we haven’t had him since the start for one reason or another. The shoulder twice and then this injury. We have to wait and see the extent of the injury.

“We will have to find solutions but obviously [Odegaard] is our captain and is a player that gives us a completely different dimension with things that he can do, especially in the attack.”

Arsenal moved ahead of Liverpool before the current international break and currently sit one point clear at the top of the early Premier League table.

Fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods underwent surgery recently to replace a disc in his back. It’s the latest injury setback for Woods, who also underwent surgery in March after rupturing his left Achilles tendon while ramping up training and practice at home.

Here’s a look at some of the injuries Woods has had throughout his PGA Tour career.

Oct. 10, 2025: Back surgery
Woods underwent lumbar disc replacement surgery — his seventh back surgery. Woods said in a social media post that he had the surgery in New York and added it was the right decision for his health and his troubled back. He did not mention how long it would keep him out of golf. It was his second surgery of the year and his second back surgery in 13 months.

Woods said he consulted doctors and surgeons after experiencing pain and lack of mobility in his back. “The scans determined that I had a collapsed disc in L4/5, disc fragments and a compromised spinal canal,” Woods wrote in the post. “I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.”

March 11, 2025: Achilles tendon injury
Woods underwent surgery after rupturing his left Achilles tendon while ramping up training and practice at home, he announced in a statement on X. Woods, 49, said Dr. Charlton Stucken of the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida, performed a “minimally invasive” Achilles tendon repair. “The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” Stucken said in a statement.

Sept. 13, 2024: Back surgery
Woods announced that he underwent surgery on his lower back. In a statement on his social media, the procedure was described as a microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine for nerve impingement in the lower back. “The surgery went smoothly, and I’m hopeful this will help alleviate the back spasms and pain I was experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season,” Woods said.

April 19, 2023: Ankle surgery
Woods underwent surgery to address post-traumatic arthritis in his right ankle that was caused by injuries suffered in a February 2021 car wreck. According to a statement posted to Woods’ Twitter account, Dr. Martin O’Malley at HSS Sports Medicine Institute in New York performed the subtalar fusion procedure to address arthritis caused by a previous talus fracture and “determined the surgery to be successful.”

“He’s resting now and will start the recovery process,” Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview at the time.

April 9, 2023: Withdraws from Masters
Woods withdrew prior to Sunday at the Masters — he would have needed to play 28½ holes due to weather suspensions. “I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis.”

Feb. 23, 2021: Injuries from car crash
Woods was involved in a one-car crash in Southern California in which the vehicle rolled several times and left him trapped in the car. He later had surgery to deal with “open fractures” to his lower right leg, had a rod placed in a tibia and had screws and pins inserted in his foot and ankle during emergency surgery.

Woods was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center by ambulance. Later that night, Dr. Anish Mahajan issued a statement in which he said Woods suffered “significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity” and had emergency surgery for “open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portion of the tibia and fibula bones.” Mahajan said Woods’ leg was “stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia and additional injuries to the bones of his foot and ankle were repaired with screws and pins. To relieve pressure from swelling, doctors also removed the covering of muscles.”

Dec. 23, 2021: Another back procedure
Woods underwent a fifth back procedure, his fourth microdiscectomy, meant to alleviate nerve pain in his lower back. The time frame for a return is typically 2½ to 3 months.

Aug. 20, 2019: Left knee surgery
Woods had an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee — the fifth time that knee had been operated on — and later said the knee hindered him throughout the summer and that he had put the procedure off. He said he would be ready in time for the Zozo Championship in Japan.

April 20, 2017: Back surgery
Woods announced he underwent successful back surgery to alleviate ongoing pain in his back and leg. “The surgery went well, and I’m optimistic this will relieve my back spasms and pain,” Woods said via his website. “When healed, I look forward to getting back to a normal life, playing with my kids, competing in professional golf and living without the pain I have been battling so long.”

Feb. 3, 2017: Back spasms

Woods withdrew before the second round of the Dubai Desert Classic, citing back spasms. Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, said at the time that the problem was not related to nerve issues that had plagued the 14-time major champion over the prior few years and resulted in three surgeries, the most recent in September 2015.

Oct. 28, 2015: Follow-up back procedure

About a month after his second back surgery in a year and a half, Woods announced that he had undergone a follow-up procedure to relieve discomfort in the area. The procedure was performed by Dr. Charles Rich, the same neurosurgeon who performed the previous two surgeries.

Sept. 16, 2015: Back surgery again
Back surgery again: Woods missed the cut in three of the four majors of 2015, but in August he posted his best finish of the year. That was his final start of the year, however, because Woods underwent a second microdiscectomy surgery in September. He said he hoped to return in “early 2016.”

April 1, 2014: Back surgery
Woods announced he would miss the Masters after undergoing a microdiscectomy for a pinched nerve, which had been hurting him for several months. Woods said he would return to golf “sometime this summer,” which he did in late June at the Quicken Loans National.

March 18, 2014: Back spasms
Woods announced he wouldn’t play the Arnold Palmer Invitational, citing lingering pain.

March 2, 2014: Back issues
Woods withdrew from the final round of the Honda Classic.

March 11, 2012: Injury to left Achilles tendon
Woods withdrew from the final round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship.

May 12, 2011: Knee, Achilles act up
Woods withdrew from the Players Championship with apparent injuries after nine holes (he shot 42). “The knee acted up, and then the Achilles followed after that, and then the calf started cramping up. Everything started getting tight,” he said. Woods didn’t play again until the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in August 2011.

April 26, 2011: Left MCL sprain, strained left Achilles tendon
Woods announced he would miss the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina. During the third round of the Masters, he suffered a Grade 1 mild MCL sprain to his left knee and a mild strain to his left Achilles tendon while hitting a difficult and awkward second shot from the pine straw under the Eisenhower tree left of the fairway at No. 17. Woods was able to continue playing at Augusta and later decided to seek a medical evaluation.

2010: Apparent neck injury
Woods was forced to withdraw from the Players Championship during the final round with a neck injury. An MRI revealed that he had an inflamed facet joint in his neck.

2008-09: Torn right Achilles tendon
At the 2010 Masters, Woods revealed that he tore his right Achilles in 2008 and reinjured the tendon several times in 2009, yet continued to play.

2008: Arthroscopic knee surgery
Two days after finishing second at the 2008 Masters, Woods had arthroscopic knee surgery to clean out cartilage. He was expected to recover in four to six weeks, and he returned to action at the U.S. Open. The result? He won. Woods had reconstructive surgery on the damaged ACL and missed the remainder of the 2008 season. In addition to the ACL problem, Woods had a double stress fracture in his left tibia as a result of his preparation for the U.S. Open.

2007: Ruptured ACL
Woods ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while at home running after the 2007 British Open, but he decided against surgery. He went on to win five of his next six events.

While compiling the greatest career record of his generation, Tiger Woods has been no stranger spending time on the sideline because of injury. Here’s a look back at some of the ailments that have caused Woods to miss time during his career:

December 2002: Woods has surgery to remove fluid from around the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of his left knee. The surgery sidelines him a few weeks, but Woods wins in his first start back at the 2003 Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines.

April 2008: Shortly after a runner-up finish at the Masters, Woods has arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage damage to his left knee. Weeks later it is revealed that the then-two-time U.S. Open champ has a pair of stress fractures in his left tibia.

June 2008: After playing through pain to claim the U.S. Open title at Torrey Pines, Woods has reconstructive surgery on the ACL in his left knee. During the surgery, further cartilage damage is repaired, and Woods does not return to action for nearly nine months, losing to Tim Clark in the second round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in February 2009 in his first start back.

May 2010: After missing the cut the week prior at the Wells Fargo Championship, Woods withdraws during the final round of The Players Championship, citing what he believes to be a potential bulging disk. “I’ve been playing with a bad neck for quite a while,†he tells reporters. The injury was later diagnosed as an inflamed facet joint in his neck. Woods does not miss a start, tying for 19th in his next appearance at the Memorial Tournament the following month.

April 2011: Woods announces that he will withdraw from the upcoming Wells Fargo Championship due to a “minor†injury to his left knee and Achilles’ tendon, one that he claimed to have suffered at the Masters earlier in the month. “This is precautionaryâ€â€™ Woods’ agent tells reporters. “We’re not at all concerned.â€

May 2011: In his first start since his most recent injury announcement, Woods abruptly withdraws from The Players Championship after nine holes, exiting early from TPC Sawgrass for the second consecutive year. “The knee acted up and then the Achilles’ followed after that,†he tells reporters. The injury is later diagnosed as both a sprain of the MCL ligament in his left knee and a strain to the left Achilles’ tendon, and Woods ultimately misses three months of action, including both the U.S. Open and The Open. He ties for 37th in his return at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in August.

March 2012: Woods withdraws with seven holes left in his final round at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, citing an injury to his left Achilles’ tendon. “In the past, I may have tried to continue to play, but this time, I decided to do what I thought was necessary.†The injury does not sideline him long, as Woods wins just two weeks later in his first start back at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

June 2013: After a T-32 finish at the U.S. Open, Woods announces he will miss the upcoming AT&T National due to a left elbow strain. “I have been advised to take a few weeks off, rest and undergo treatment,†he says in a statement. It marks the third time he has missed the event because of injury in its seven-year history, and Woods confirms that he intends to return at The Open in July.

March 2014: Woods withdraws on the 13th green in the final round of the Honda Classic, citing lower back spasms. Woods shot 5-over 40 on the front nine. Woods said after the round that it was too soon to tell his status for next week’s WGC-Cadillac. Woods’ spokesman, Glenn Greenspan, said that the world No. 1 had experienced discomfort during warm-ups and that the issue was similar to what Woods experienced during last year’s Barclays, when he fell to his knees in pain during the final round en route to a runner-up finish.

April 2014: Woods announces that he will miss the Masters for the first time in his pro career. He also revealed that he recently underwent surgery for a pinched nerve in his back and that he hoped to return to the PGA Tour “sometime this summer.â€

August 2014: Woods withdraws on the ninth hole of the final round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, citing lower back pain. The injury stemmed from an awkward lie on the second hole that sent Woods back into a fairway bunker after impact. “Just jarred it,†he said, “and it’s been spasming ever since.†This was his third tournament since returning from surgery in March, and he played his first eight holes 3 over. When asked about his prognosis for the upcoming PGA Championship, Woods said, “I don’t know. Just trying to get out of here.â€

February 2015: In his second start of the year, Woods walks off after completing 11 holes of his opening round at the Farmers Insurance Open, citing a back injury. Woods explained that the injury stemmed from enduring multiple fog delays before the start of his round, and that he was unable to keep his glutes “activated.†“My glutes are just shutting off,†he said. “Then they don’t activate and then, hence, it goes into my lower back.â€

September 2015: After showing signs of improvement in his final start of the season at the Wyndham Championship, Woods on Sept. 18 announces that he has undergone a second microdisectomy surgery two days prior to remove a disc fragment that was pinching his nerve. “This is certainly disappointing, but I’m a fighter,†Woods said in a statement. “I’ve been told I can make a full recovery, and I have no doubt that I will.†Woods says the surgery will cause him to miss the Frys.com Open, Bridgestone America’s Golf Cup and his own Hero World Challenge. He further states he hopes to return “early in 2016.â€

October 2015: Woods announces on his website that he has undergone a “successful†procedure as a follow-up to his latest back surgery. Intended to “relieve discomfort,†the procedure was performed in Park City, Utah, by the same neurosurgeon who performed Woods’ microdiscectomy surgery on Sept. 16. “It’s one of those things that had to be done,†Woods says. “I have an outstanding team of doctors, and I’ll be back as soon as I can.†There is still no timetable for his return to the PGA Tour.

April 2016: Woods, who hasn’t played competitively since Fall 2015 surgeries, announces that he will miss the Masters for the second time in three years. “After assessing the present condition of my back, and consulting with my medical team, I’ve decided it’s prudent to miss this year’s Masters,†he said in a statement on his website. “I’ve been hitting balls and training daily, but I’m not physically ready. I’ve said all along that this time I need to be cautious and do what’s best for my long-term health and career. Unfortunately, playing Augusta next week wouldn’t be the right decision. I’m absolutely making progress, and I’m really happy with how far I’ve come, but I still have no timetable to return to competitive golf.â€

September 2016: Woods announces in a statement that he “hopes†to return to competition at the Safeway Open, Oct. 13-16, the 2016-17 PGA Tour season-opener. The statement said he “intends†to also play the Turkish Airlines Open in November and his Hero World Challenge in December. “My rehabilitation is to the point where I’m comfortable making plans, but I still have work to do,†he said in the statement released on his website. “Whether I can play depends on my continued progress and recovery. My hope is to have my game ready to go.â€

October 2016: After committing to the Safeway Open three days prior, Tiger Woods officially withdraws on Oct. 10. He says in a statement, “My health is good, and I feel strong, but my game is vulnerable and not where it needs to be.†He also says he will not compete in November’s Turkish Airlines Open, but hopes to return at the Hero World Challenge in December.

February 2017: Woods withdraws from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic before the start of his second round. Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, cites back spasms as the reason. Woods said he was feeling no pain following his first-round 77.

February 2017: Woods announces that he will not compete in the Genesis Open nor the Honda Classic, two of four events in a five-week stretch in which he planned to play to start the year.

March 2017: Woods misses the Arnold Palmer Invitational as he continues to recover from back spasms.

March 2017: Woods says he is not “tournament ready†and misses the Masters for the third time in four years.

April 2017: Woods announces on his website that he has undergone “successful back surgery to alleviate ongoing pain in his back and leg.†The announcement explains that, “Woods’ bottom lower-back disc severely narrowed, causing sciatica and severe back and leg pain. … The surgery entailed removing the damaged disc and re-elevating the collapsed disc space to normal levels. This allows the one vertebrae to heal to the other. The goal is to relieve the pressure on the nerve and to give the nerve the best chance of healing. Manchester United’s recruitment department are keen for a more youthful appearance to the club’s midfield, if their recent scouting activity is anything to go by.

Ruben Amorim has been reassured publicly by Man United’s minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe that his job is safe for three years, which could mean the Portuguese coach takes charge of a line-up that features prospective signing Cristian Orozco in future.

The Colombian has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford but can only join upon his 18th birthday next July.

Orozco is not the only teenage midfielder Man United have apparently been taking a closer look at.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have taken Senegalese youngster Mouhamed Dabo on trial at the club’s Carrington training base.

Dabo is currently on the books of Be Sport Academy in his native Senegal but has attracted interest from Europe.

The central midfielder does not turn 18 until March 2026, meaning that due to FIFA regulations, the club are not yet able to make an official offer to sign the teenager.

Dabo is the captain of Senegal’s Under-17 side and recently helped his country qualify for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Per Romano’s information via a post on X (formerly Twitter), the formal stages of a transfer are yet to be activated, although news of a successful trial suggests a move could be made to secure his signature when he comes of age.

The rule that prevents players from overseas signing for English clubs before their 18th birthdays is part of FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP), specifically Article 19, designed to protect minors.

The earliest at which Dabo could be confirmed a Man United player is next June, once the summer transfer window opens, three months after the midfielder has turned 18.
