Michael Jordan won six championships, six NBA Finals MVPs and five league MVPs and is considered by many to be the greatest player in basketball history.

But there’s nothing like the pressure to live up to a legendary and almost mythical legacy in front of the next generation.

Of course, he “absolutely” delivered in the face of that pressure.

The first edition of the “MJ: Insights to Excellence” segment that will air during NBA on NBC broadcasts aired during halftime of Tuesday’s game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets, and His Airness told Mike Tirico a story about the last time he picked up a basketball after so much time away from the game.

“I haven’t picked up a ball in years,” he said. “You don’t see a hoop anywhere around here, right?

“I was at the Ryder Cup and I rented a house from the owner. He came over to do pictures and had grandkids. I was meeting and greeting, thanked him for allowing me to stay at the house. He had a basketball court. He says, ‘I want you to shoot one free throw.’

“… When I stepped up to shoot the free throw, that was the most nervous I’ve been in years. The reason being is, those kids heard the stories from their parents about what I did 30 years ago. So their expectation is 30 years prior, and I haven’t touched a basketball.”

Naturally Tirico asked if he “swished it” and Jordan responded like only he could.

It is surely a lifetime memory for those children who got to see Jordan shoot a free throw on the hoop, and it is no surprise he made the shot. After all, he was known for coming through in the most important moments throughout his career, and that ability to deliver in the clutch clearly didn’t go anywhere in retirement.

If Tuesday’s segment was a hint of what’s to come, basketball fans will be in for a treat during NBA on NBC halftimes.

Jordan telling firsthand stories about his own career while also talking about the modern-day game will surely generate headlines every time one of the interview clips air given his legendary status.

Even if those stories are about shooting free throws in retirement.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are headed to the World Series after sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series, capping the four-game stretch with a 5-1 home win on Friday.

Afterward, exuberant Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had something to say for his team’s preseason critics while being interviewed by TNT Sports’ Lauren Shehadi.

“I’ll tell ya, before this season started, they said, ‘The Dodgers are ruining baseball.’

“Let’s get four more wins and really ruin baseball! Let’s go!”

Per USA Today, the Dodgers had the second-highest payroll in baseball for 2025 at $321.3 million. However, L.A. also has over a billion dollars in deferred payments alone to eight players from 2018-2046.

The Dodgers’ practices even got commissioner Rob Manfred talking, per Ronald Blum of the Associated Press back in February.

“The Dodgers have gone out and done everything possible, always within the rules that currently exist, to put the best possible team on the field and that’s a great thing for the game. That type of competitive spirit is what people want to see,” commissioner Rob Manfred said last week.

“By the same token, it’s clear that we have fans in some markets that are concerned about the ability of the team in their market to compete with the financial resources of the Dodgers. And I think if we’ve been consistent on one point it is we try to listen to our fans on topics like this and I have heard people on this, believe me, I get a lot of emails about it.”

The Dodgers won the World Series last year with a loaded lineup headlined by Shohei Ohtani, and the rich got richer in 2025 with the team adding a host of new talents, including pitchers Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki and Tanner Scott.

The debate, of course, before the season was whether the Dodgers were ruining baseball with their spending ways.

On one side, you had people concerned about a big market team being able to spend as much money as they want and defer as much money as they want while smaller market teams get squeezed out of adding players.

On the other side, some fans recognized that the Dodgers were doing whatever they can to compete, which is a lot more than can be said for some teams and their owners who are known for penny-pinching.

Injuries hampered the Dodgers during the regular season, but they still had 93 wins and took the NL West. L.A. has since gone 7-1 in the playoffs to cruise to the World Series. The Dodgers need four more wins for back-to-back Fall Classic titles, something Roberts clearly wants for his team but also to send a message to L.A.’s critics.

A recently released WWE talent is already shooting their shot with All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan on social media.

On Friday evening, during WWEâ€s tour of Australia, the company released multiple NXT talents. Fans found out about a majority of the releases during SmackDown when it aired on the USA Network.

The following names were released by the company on Friday:

  • Wes Lee
  • Stevie Turner
  • Lance Anoaâ€i
  • Jin Tala
  • Drako Knox
  • Haze Jameson
  • Summer Sorrell
  • Brayden “BJ†Ray
  • Jamar Hampton

So, which released talent is already reaching out to Tony Khan?

Brayden “BJ†Ray to Tony Khan: Your boy is ready

Former NXT Superstar and LFG competitor Brayden “BJ†Ray took to social media this afternoon to reach out to All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan, looking for an opportunity from WWEâ€s biggest competitor, tweeting out:

“@TonyKhan Your boy is ready… call me *phone emoji* – The Ratings Machine (aka SexyBJRay),†Brayden Ray said in a post.

While Ray is particularly new to the pro wrestling scene, with only 19 matches currently under his belt, you canâ€t question his passion or dedication for the industry, as he recently revealed that he competed on both seasons of WWE LFG with a completely torn labrum and rotator cuff.

Whether or not Tony Khan is interested in bringing Ray into All Elite Wrestling is another question entirely. Regardless, you have to give credit to the former WWE talent for putting himself out there and openly campaigning to Khan to give him a phone call.

Tyrrell Hatton has urged European supporters not to lower themselves to the level of US golf fans when the Ryder Cup heads to Adare Manor in 2027.

Europe’s players were boorishly abused, with Rory McIlroy and his American wife, Erica, targeted for particularly vile treatment, as Bethpage turned ugly. Hatton, who secured the half in the Sunday singles that guaranteed victory for Europe, has told home fans not to seek retribution in Ireland in two years’ time.

“If it was my choice, and what I say isn’t really going to affect how people behave, I don’t really think that the insults are the way forward,†Hatton said. “Some guys on the team had it a lot worse than others. For me, there were a lot of insults maybe around height or hairline or weight, some of which I pretty much say to myself anyway, so it wasn’t like anything new.

“But I would much prefer it to be a respectful atmosphere. You let the guys play and the best team wins – rather than trying to affect the outcome by trying to put off players or things like that. I don’t think it will be as hostile as maybe it was last week. I’d like to think that it will be very respectful.â€

The US captain, Keegan Bradley, who refused to condemn the “passionate†home fans at Bethpage, claimed behaviour at the New York course was no different to that in Rome two years ago, when Europe last hosted. Hatton, who went unbeaten for a second successive Ryder Cup, disagrees.

“Personally I don’t think they were close at all,†the Englishman said. “Certainly with what I heard last week, I don’t think Rome comes anywhere near that. I think they are quite far apart.â€

The PGA of America chief executive, Derek Sprague, told the Golf Channel he intends to contact McIlroy in person to apologise for what he and his wife went through. “I do plan on sending them an email with my heartfelt apologies for what occurred,†Sprague said. “There’s no place for that in the Ryder Cup or in the game of golf.

“I can’t wait to reach out to Rory and Erica and really, quite frankly, the entire European team. The whole European team should not have been subjected to that. And because of that, I feel badly and I plan on apologising to them.

“When it [the Ryder Cup] started in 1927, it was about sportsmanship and integrity of the game, and that’s what we want it to be and continue to be and it’s unfortunate that people crossed the line last week.â€

However, Matt Fitzpatrick called out the organisation’s president, Don Rea, on Wednesday for his churlish reaction to the 15-13 home defeat at the trophy presentation. “I don’t want to speak on behalf of everyone but we did feel there was a little bit of bitterness when they presented the trophy,†Fitzpatrick said.

“Me and Rosey [Justin Rose] both looked at each other as if to say: ‘That wasn’t a very heartfelt congratulations.’ He said we only retained it but actually we won it.â€

As Hatton and Fitzpatrick return to action on Thursday alongside Tommy Fleetwood and Bob McIntyre at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, Luke Donald is mulling over whether to stay on for a third term as Europe’s captain. Fleetwood believes the job should be Donald’s if he wants it after back‑to‑back triumphs, but that Europe have a ready-made successor in his vice‑captain Francesco Molinari.

“The ball is probably in Luke’s court and I think he’s earned that,†Fleetwood said. “I’ve spoken to Francesco about it numerous times. I think the respect he has from his peers and the players, his accomplishments and his experience, I think goes a long way to being a Ryder Cup captain.â€
