Kota Ibushi on AEW Dynamite

AEW/Lee South

The special Homecoming edition of “AEW Collision” was filmed on October 8 at the unofficial home of All Elite Wrestling, Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida, but it seems that not everyone left the taping at 100% as Kota Ibushi has reportedly suffered an injury.

According to JJ Williams of the Wrestling Observer who was in attendance, Ibushi was wrestling Josh Alexander of The Don Callis Family when he slipped off the top rope after his leg gave out and fell to the outside. Upon landing, Ibushi looked to have seriously injured his leg and was unable to continue the match after being checked on by AEW’s medical team at ringside, with Alexander winning the bout by count out. After the match was over, Ibushi’s best friend Kenny Omega came out to make the save as The Don Callis Family looked to injure Ibushi further, before the house lights were lowered and Ibushi was stretchered out of the ringside area.

It’s currently unknown at the time of writing the severity of the injury, but if it is serious, it could mean that Ibushi will once again spend a lengthy amount of time on the shelf after just making his return to AEW. Ibushi made his first appearance for the company in nearly two years on the June 21 episode of “AEW Collision” where he confronted Kazuchika Okada, which led to an AEW Continental Championship match between the two men on the 300th episode of “AEW Dynamite.” Okada picked up the win on that night, but Ibushi was praised for being in the best shape he had been in for quite some time after struggling with his health for many years. Ibushi has had a long history of shoulder problems dating back to his time in New Japan Pro Wrestling, and broke both of his ankles wrestling Naomichi Marufuji at a Pro Wrestling NOAH event in January 2024.

Another top AEW star has seemingly suffered an injury.

The company taped this week’s episode of Collision from Jacksonville, FL on Wednesday night, after a special episode of Dynamite aired on Tuesday this week.

One of the matches on the show was Kota Ibushi facing Josh Alexander in a singles bout, which ended abruptly due to the former seemingly suffering an injury.

According to people in attendance, Ibushi slipped off the top and fell to the outside. His exact injury is unknown but it’s believed that his leg gave out.

The officials then called an audible and ended the match with a countout, giving Alexander the victory. The lights were dimmed after the bell and the Japanese star was stretchered out of the arena.

Tony Khan later came out to address the crowd. He talked about how professional wrestling is one of the hardest-hitting sports and led the fans into applause for the former IWGP World Champion.

This is an unfortunate development for Kota Ibushi who only returned to action in June this year, after more than 2 years away from the ring. He had been wrestling regularly for the promotion ever since, and had also reunited with his Golden Lovers partner Kenny Omega.

Following the company’s Victory Road pay-per-view on Friday, TNA held a set of tapings for its flagship TV show the following day in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Among the WWE performers present for the “TNA Impact” taping was Ridge Holland, who wrestled a match against Moose. Unfortunately, Holland was seemingly injured during the bout, with the match brought to an end as the WWE star was helped to the back by his opponent and a company official. In the video, shared by a fan in attendance, Holland appears unable to put any weight on his left leg.

Holland had just wrestled Mike Santana on Friday at Victory Road, falling short as Santana prepares to challenge Trick Williams for the TNA World Championship in the coming weeks. Outside of his recent TNA involvement, Holland has been most active on the WWE EVOLVE roster.

Apart from live events, Holland hasn’t wrestled an NXT match since May, when he took part in a battle royale to become number-one contender for the NXT Championship. He was eliminated midway through the match by Williams, and the battle royale was instead won by Myles Borne.

A native of England, Holland has been signed with WWE since 2018. He’s spent most of that time on “NXT,” though he had a stint on the main roster from 2021 until 2023, when he was a member of The Brawling Brutes alongside Sheamus and Butch (AKA Pete Dunne). Prior to joining WWE, Holland (real name Luke Menzies) was a professional rugby player in the United Kingdom and Canada.
