Iyer, who took a stunning catch while running backward from point to dismiss Alex Carey, appeared to injure his left rib cage during the effort and was taken to the hospital shortly after returning to the dressing room on Saturday.

WHY WAS IYER RUSHED TO THE ICU?

It has been reliably learnt that Iyerâ€s body vitals dropped to dangerously low levels after the fall, prompting an emergency rush to the hospital in what was a life-threatening situation at that moment.The impact from the fall is believed to have split a body part just below the rib cage, resulting in severe internal bleeding. Indiaâ€s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been admitted to the ICU in a Sydney hospital after suffering internal bleeding from a rib cage injury during the third ODI against Australia. The injury occurred when Iyer took a backward-running catch to dismiss Alex Carey and landed awkwardly, hitting his left rib cage.

According to a BCCI source, Shreyas Iyer has been in the intensive care unit for the past few days after internal bleeding was detected. He was admitted immediately to stop the spread of infection caused by the bleeding. The source added that Iyer would remain under observation for anywhere between two to seven days, depending on how quickly he recovers.
