Since Taylor Swift is set to marry into the Kansas City Chiefs’ extended family, Patrick Mahomes honored her by including “Opalite” in an Instagram post with highlights of Rashee Rice’s return game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
On the latest episode of the New Heightspodcast (starts at 16:45 mark), Travis Kelce reacted to Mahomes’ post with a laugh, calling the song “a banger, man.”
Swift has explained that she wrote the song about finding love and perspective after a particularly heartbreaking moment.
“When we go through something that doesn’t work out, we oftentimes look at it as this major setback, like we’ve taken a step back,” she said. “But I’ve found that so many of those instances in my life can catapult you forward in growth, in wisdom, in perspective.”
Opalite is also revered in the spiritual community as a calming tool for its soothing energy, along with providing emotional stability and sparking creativity.
The metaphor for Mahomes is obvious that Rice is such a difference-maker for the Chiefs and his absence was profoundly felt. His return has helped the world make sense again for Mahomes.
Rice hadn’t played since Sept. 29, 2024, when he suffered a torn ACL on an inadvertent tackle by Mahomes after he threw an interception. The third-year wideout was also suspended for the first six games of this season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
Even though Rice only had 42 yards on seven catches, he also scored touchdowns in a 31-0 win over the Raiders. The Chiefs have scored at least 28 points in four consecutive games, their longest such streak since the 2021 season.

Taylor Swift made an unexpected soccer reference on Friday with the release of her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”
The 12-track record features the song “Wi$h Li$t,” in which the American pop star compares the dream of signing a contract with Real Madrid to other lofty ambitions such as winning an Oscar or the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

“They want that freedom, living off the grid. They want those three dogs that they call their kids. And that good surf, no hypocrites. They want it all. They want a contract with Real Madrid,” says the artist.
It isn’t the first time Swift has crossed paths with the Spanish giants. In May 2024, she performed two sold-out shows at the Santiago Bernabéu during her Eras Tour, drawing 130,000 fans across back-to-back nights.
Real Madrid even joined in on the fun, posting the track to their social channels shortly after the album’s release.
This also isn’t the first time that a major musician has made mention of the team in their songs.
In 2018, Canadian rapper Drake referenced Real Madrid on his 2018 song “Blue Tint” from the album “Scorpion” when he said “I live like Ronaldo but I never been in Madrid.”
Reggaeton artists, including Anuel AA and Bad Bunny, have also mentioned the club in their songs, further cementing their status into pop culture.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said in a Thursday interview with Carrington Harrison of 96.5 The Fan that his team would be “blaring” Taylor Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, at the team facility today (11:55 mark).
“Oh yeah, for sure. I’m super excited,” Mahomes said when asked if he was celebrating release of the album, which dropped on Friday at midnight ET.
“You know, I haven’t been able to hear the album yet, but I’m super excited to be able to do that, and it’ll be blaring all through the Chiefs facility tomorrow. And we’ll be supporting Taylor and she’s put in so much hard work into this, and I’m excited to hear the album just like everybody else.”
Obviously, the album has a little more meaning in the Chiefs’ facility with Swift’s fiancee, tight end Travis Kelce, playing in his 13th season on the team. Some of the tracks even have references to Kelce, who had been dating Swift for a couple years before the two got engaged on Aug. 26.
We’ll see if listening to the album during their prep for Week 5 provides any help to the Chiefs as they look to go over .500 for the first time this season. Kansas City got off to an 0-2 start but has since rebounded to go 2-2. A road date with the 3-1 Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football is up next.
