Dallas Mavericks fans got their third look at rookie Cooper Flagg on Monday as the Mavs beat the Utah Jazz 114-101 in the NBA preseason.

In the grand scheme of things, Flagg’s third preseason game will likely be forgotten, but he showed some flashes of what’s to come. The No. 1 overall pick had 11 points, seven boards, two steals and a pair of blocks in the win.

He struggled to find his shot, hitting just three of his 13 attempts from the field and one of his six shots from deep, but that’s to be expected for a young player still adjusting to the NBA game.

Jazz fans were hoping to see more of Ace Bailey after the No. 5 pick impressed in his first two preseason games, but he played just 11 minutes before exiting with knee soreness.

With Bailey out for most of the game, Flagg was the story of the night. Fans applauded the 18-year-old as he continues to figure things out, taking note of what he did on the defensive end.

Flagg hasn’t done much to impress on offense in three preseason games, but that shouldn’t be a huge concern. For now, the Mavs just want to see him get comfortable going up against NBA talent, and his shots will eventually start to fall.

Even if he isn’t a major threat on offense, it seems like he’ll be a reliable defender from the jump.

Kylian Mbappé will be assessed after suffering a mild ankle sprain in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Villarreal on Saturday, coach Xabi Alonso has confirmed.

Forward Mbappé was substituted in the 83rd minute at the Santiago Bernabéu, two minutes after scoring Madrid’s third goal — a strike which made it a career-best nine consecutive games scoring for club and country.

Madrid will play next on Oct. 19, with LaLiga taking a break for international matches this week.

“I can’t say [Mbappé won’t go away with France],” Alonso said in his postmatch news conference. “Right now he has some discomfort. They’ll have to evaluate it with the national team.

“We hope it isn’t serious. But right now we can’t say anything.”

France are due to play Azerbaijan in World Cup qualifying on Friday, followed by Iceland three days later.

Mbappé passed up the opportunity to score earlier in Saturday’s game, when he allowed Vinícius Júnior to take a penalty after the Brazilian was fouled in the box.

Vinícius converted the spot kick for his second goal of the game, but Alonso said Mbappé remains Madrid’s designated penalty taker.

“[The players] decided, but the taker is Kylian,” Alonso said. “We believe in him. It was their decision but the first choice is Kylian.”

Alonso praised the performance of Federico Valverde at right back — after the midfielder was forced to release a statement this week denying that he had refused to play in the position — and described the impact of Vinícius as “decisive.”

“Vini had a very good game,” Alonso said. “I’m very happy with him. I like seeing Vini smile and enjoy himself. He could have had a hat trick, which would have finished off the all-round game he had.”

The October 3rd edition of SmackDown had a lot of things going for it, but a smooth experience wasnâ€t one of them. This is because the show experienced a lot of technical difficulties and fans have called out Netflix for the same.

During the segment with Chelsea Green and Sol Ruca & Zaria, the broadcast suffered multiple glitches, which included missing audio, the screen being completely green and more such technical difficulties. It even happened during a segment with Damian Priest.

One fan took to Twitter and said SmackDown didnâ€t seem like it wanted anyone to watch it today, saying there was no sound, no picture, and no crowd, calling the situation “complicated.â€

“The SmackDown doesnâ€t seem like it wants to be watched today Thereâ€s no sound, no picture, no crowd… itâ€s complicated.â€

Another fan took to Twitter and said, “On Monday, there were problems with the pyrotechnics, and now there are problems with the picture and the sound. 🄠#SDCL #SmackDown.â€

A different fan mentioned having issues while watching SmackDown, saying the audio kept cutting out and the screen was freezing, as he said, “Anyone else having issues with SmackDown? The audio keeps cutting and the screen keeps freezing. Doesnâ€t seem to be happening too much though. #SmackDown.â€

One fan was especially angry, as he wanted to cancel Netflix, saying, “SmackDown Cancel Netflix #SmackDown.†Another fan pointed out how SmackDown kept on glitching and told Netflix to sort it out, saying, “Is anyone elseâ€s #Smackdown keep glitching ?!? Sort it out Netflix!!!!!â€

Even though SmackDown had big stories and top stars, most fans online talked about the technical issues instead of the matches. This isnâ€t even the first time technical difficulties took place during a SmackDown broadcast, so we hope it doesnâ€t happen again.

What do you think about the technical problems during SmackDown? Do you believe Netflix can fix these issues before the next live show? Share your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.

Big blow for New Zealand as their allrounder Rachin Ravindra suffered an injury during a training session ahead of the T2I series against Australia. The injury reportedly happened on Tuesday. The incident occurred when Ravindra collided with a boundary hoarding while attempting a catch, leaving him with a facial laceration.

Rachin Ravindra Suffers Facial Injury: Under Close Monitoring

The 24-year-old underwent an initial concussion test at the ground, which he passed, but will continue to be closely monitored by the teamâ€s medical staff in the coming hours. Ravindraâ€s availability for the three-match T20I series, set to begin on October 1 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, remains uncertain.

This marks Ravindraâ€s second facial injury of 2025. Earlier this year, in the lead-up to the Champions Trophy, he was struck on the forehead during a tri-series match against South Africa in Lahore, which ruled him out of the remainder of that series and New Zealand’s opening Champions Trophy match against Pakistan.

New Zealand will be hoping that Ravindraâ€s injury is not serious, given his importance to the side across formats. With the T20I series against Australia looming large, the team will be keen to assess his fitness before finalising the squad.

The series will continue with two more games on October 3 and 4, and New Zealand will be hoping to have all key players available for a crucial clash against their trans-Tasman rivals.

Scoot Henderson showed the kind of development in the second half of last season that had the Trail Blazers and their fans optimistic about the leap the guard could make in his third year. With Anfernee Simons gone via trade, it looked as if Henderson would get his chance to start at the point, plus Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday are in Portland as mentors. Everything seemed to be falling into place.

Now all that is on hold after Henderson tore his left hamstring in a team workout and hopes to start on-court rehabilitation in 4-8 weeks.

This is a heavy blow for the Trail Blazers.

Notice that the Trail Blazers†release says Henderson is “expected to return to basketball activities in 4-8 weeks,†not return to play. Hamstrings are fickle and can be slow to heal, and you can be sure the Trail Blazers will be cautious and not look to rush him back and risk re-injury. The Blazers†timeline suggests that Henderson will start working out toward a return in November and possibly return to the court before or around Thanksgiving.

It seems most likely now that Holiday will start at the point next to Shaedon Sharpe in the backcourt. The Trail Blazers were already a little shorthanded in the backcourt, with Damian Lillard on the roster but not playing this season due to a torn Achilles.

After the All-Star break last season, Henderson averaged 13.4 points, 4.6 assists and three rebounds a game. For the season he shot 35.4% from 3-point range.

With the 2025-26 NBA season around the corner, Portland Trail Blazers point guard Scoot Henderson will be missing time to start the year. The team announced Friday that Henderson suffered a left hamstring tear during an offseason workout.

As a result of the injury, Henderson will be out 4-8 weeks. The team says Henderson can return to basketball activities in that time, though an exact timeline for his return is unclear.

Portland begins preseason Oct. 8 with a matchup against the Golden State Warriors. The Trail Blazers’ season opener is set for Oct. 22, as the team hosts the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Henderson, who was drafted No. 3 overall by Portland in 2023, was set to start his third season with the team. The 21-year-old point guard averaged 12.7 points, three rebounds and 5.1 assists per game last season, leading the team in assists per game.

Henderson was likely to come off the bench this season behind veteran point guard Jrue Holiday, an offseason acquisition for the Trail Blazers. With Henderson out, Dalano Banton will likely get more time off the bench behind Holiday.

Henderson is the latest NBA player to suffer an injury during the offseason. Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain’s injury woes continued after tearing a ligament in his thumb Thursday. Houston Rockets guard Fred VanVleet suffered a season-ending ACL tear during a team workout in the Bahamas, with the veteran guard successfully undergoing surgery.

Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain suffered a UCL tear in his right thumb during a workout Thursday, the team announced.

“McCain and the 76ers are consulting with specialists on next steps, and further updates will be provided as appropriate,” the Sixers said in a statement.

Philadelphia selected McCain out of Duke with the No. 16 overall pick in last year’s draft. He averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in the 23 games he played in before suffering a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee in December and missing the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

Injuries plagued the Sixers last season, Philadelphia’s first missing the playoffs since 2016-17. In the second year of Nick Nurse’s run as head coach, the Sixers had a whopping 54 starting lineups. Star center Joel Embiid played only 19 games. Paul George, whom Philadelphia brought aboard last offseason on a four-year, $212 million max contract, played just 41 games. Even standout point guard Tyrese Maxey was in for a career-low 52 games.

When Maxey was out early last season, McCain took over at point. In that six-game span, McCain averaged 25.2 points, 4 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 44.1% from deep. In the process, he turned in 27-, 29- and 34-point performances.

Even after Maxey returned to the lineup, McCain still registered another 30-piece. That outing against the Brooklyn Nets gave McCain seven straight 20-plus-point games and, more importantly, the NBA record for most 3-pointers made in the first five starts of a career (26), the Sixers’ recordfor most 3-pointers made through the first 15 games of a career (37) as well as the NBA rookie recordfor most consecutive games with at least three 3-pointers made (8).

McCain became the early favorite for NBA Rookie of the Year before his knee injury. He’s part of a Sixers backcourt that features Maxey but also includes this year’s No. 3 overall pick V.J. Edgecombe.

McCain’s injury news Thursday raises additional questions about the Sixers and restricted free agent guard Quentin Grimes, who averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals in 28 games, and 25 starts, after the Sixers acquired him at the trade deadline last season.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday that two sides “are very far apart on a deal.”

Charania said Grimes’ agent told him that Wednesday was the first time the Sixers had made a “formal hard offer” to Grimes as a restricted free agent.

Grimes will not be attending Sixers media day on Friday, nor will he be traveling with the team this weekend for preseason, Grimes’ agent reportedly told Charania.

“From the 76ers’ side of this all, getting V. J. Edgecombe in the high lottery, obviously that changes the dynamics of their backcourt,” Charania said. And there is a level of uncertainty going into this year health-wise with key players like Joel Embiid, Paul George and where does that leave the Sixers in terms of offering those high-value, high multi-year deals.”

ATLANTA — Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies left Monday’s game against the Washington Nationals due to a fractured hamate bone in his left hand.

Albies showed discomfort in his wrist after fouling off a pitch in the third inning while batting against Washington right-hander Konnor Pilkington. He stayed in the game for one more pitch before walking toward the dugout and being attended to by Atlanta’s training staff. Nick Allen finished Albies’ at-bat and replaced him at second base at the start of the fourth inning.

“He felt something in there that was an impingement,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said after Atlanta’s 11-5 victory that extended the team’s winning streak to a season-best nine games. “(Head athletic trainer) George (Poulos) said ‘That’s kind of your hamate area.’ It was (on the swing) that he felt it and then (Poulos) said ‘Try and dry swing before you go back up there’ and (Albies) said ‘I need to shut it down.'”

The hamate bone is on the palm side of the hand near the pinky and ring fingers. Albies fractured his left wrist in July 2024 and missed two months.

The 28-year-old Albies has played in all 157 of Atlanta’s games this season. He is batting .240 with 16 home runs and 74 RBIs.

“I hate it for him,” Snitker said. “(Tuesday) will be the first game he’s missed all year. He played a majority (of the season). (He) rallied back and had a really nice year. It’s just one of (those) tough things. It’s not an uncommon injury for hitters.

“This is a different (injury),” Snitker said referring to Albies’ 2024 wrist break. “I’ve seen guys come back from this in a month from those things. Once the calendar turns, he’ll be able to get into his offseason routine and hitting and he’ll be ready to go by spring training.”

Snitker implied that Albies will undergo surgery, although the Braves said Albies is undergoing further testing.

“(Surgery) is usually what they do when they break (the hamate) is (remove) them,” Snitker said. “It’s one of those things there that he won’t (injure) again.”
