Stone Cold Reportedly Not in Talks for WrestleMania 42

There reportedly isn’t any indication yet that WWE and Hall of Fame Superstar “Stone Cold” Steve Austin have had talks regarding a match at WrestleMania 42 next year.

According to Fightful Select (h/t H Jenkins of Ringside News), WWE sources haven’t provided any information on potential pitches for a WrestleMania match involving Austin.

Fightful noted that while Austin reportedly told people during WrestleMania 41 weekend that he might “have one left in him,” the comment has not led to anything being in the works for this coming WrestleMania in April.

Earlier this year, Austin made an appearance at WrestleMania 41, which took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Austin rode to the ring on an ATV, read the official attendance for the night and celebrated with a beer bash.

WrestleMania 42 is back at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas, sparking speculation that The Texas Rattlesnake might appear again and even have a match.

After WrestleMania 19, Austin retired from in-ring competition due to neck injuries, and it seemed as though he was done with wrestling for good.

However, he shocked the wrestling world at WrestleMania 38 when he had a match against Kevin Owens that served as the main event of Night 1. An appearance on The KO Show turned into a match, and Stone Cold impressed during the No Holds Barred bout, as he came out on top.

Now, Austin is 60 years old, and he will be 61 by the time WrestleMania 42 rolls around, so it is fair to wonder if his in-ring days are behind him.

Even if Austin does not have a match at WrestleMania 42, though, it likely won’t stop speculation from running rampant again regarding a match at WrestleMania 43.

That particular WrestleMania will take place in Saudi Arabia, and since legends have been utilized many times at WWE events in Saudi Arabia over the years, there will almost certainly be plenty of talk about Austin and other legends being part of the event.

WWE Reportedly Changed Rollins Title Stripping Segment

Seth Rollins was forced to vacate the World Heavyweight Championship on Monday night’s episode of Raw, but the segment reportedly played out differently than originally intended.

According to TC of WrestleVotes, there were several “late changes” to the segment, and the final product was a departure from initial plans.

On last week’s episode of Raw, Bron Breakker shocked the wrestling world by hitting Rollins with a spear and breaking up the Rollins-led version of The Vision. Bronson Reed followed up by hitting Rollins with a Tsunami, and Paul Heyman raised the arms of Breakker and Reed.

This week on Raw, general manager Adam Pearce opened the show by announcing that Rollins had been stripped of the world title due to the fact that he is injured and not medically cleared to compete.

Breakker, Reed and Heyman interrupted Pearce’s announcement, and Breakker had the World Heavyweight Championship belt in tow.

Pearce announced a battle royal to determine CM Punk’s opponent for the vacant world title at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and he also asked Breakker to hand over the title.

Breakker resisted and forced Pearce to say please. After some further intimidation, Breakker eventually gave Pearce the belt.

The attack on Rollins was reportedly done due to Rollins dealing with a legitimate injury suffered during his match against Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t WrestlePurists) reported that Rollins required surgery, although the exact severity of the injury would not be known until the surgery was done.

Meltzer added that WWE decision-makers “hope” Rollins will be back in time for WrestleMania 42 in April, but regardless, he is in line to miss months of action.

Expected Return Timeline for Jacob Fatu

Jacob Fatu reportedly may be back in time for WWE’s next premium live event despite requiring surgery.

According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Fatu needs surgery “involving his teeth,” and the expectation is he will be back in time for Survivor Series weekend in late November.

It was previously reported by PWInsider Elite’s Mike Johnson (h/t WrestlePurists) that Fatu was recovering from a dental procedure and would be back “very soon.”

The dental procedure reports make sense given the angle that played out involving Fatu on last week’s episode of SmackDown.

Fatu was supposed to face Drew McIntyre in the main event with the winner earning an opportunity to face Rhodes for the WWE Championship.

However, before the match started, Fatu was shown backstage, trapped under a steel truss. A pool of blood and teeth were on the floor next to Fatu as well.

With Fatu laid out, Rhodes made his way to the ring, accused McIntyre of being responsible for the attack and challenged Drew to a title match on the spot.

The bout ended in a disqualification, likely leading to a rematch between Rhodes and McIntyre in the near future.

While the timeline laid out by Alvarez suggests Fatu will be out of action for the next month, the idea that he should be back for Survivor Series and subsequently Royal Rumble is a positive for WWE.

LAS VEGAS — Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone is considered week-to-week with a wrist injury, coach Bruce Cassidy said Monday.

Stone, a right wing, was injured in the third period of the Golden Knights’ 6-1 win over Calgary on Saturday. He has 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) this season, two points behind teammate and NHL leader Jack Eichel, who has 15 points.

“I feel for him,” Cassidy said. “He’s always bounced back well, that’s the good news. When we do get him back, whether that’s the short, medium, or long term — we don’t know yet.”

Brandon Saad will shift to the top line in place of Stone, joining Eichel and Ivan Barbashev, who will move to right wing.

Eight of Stone’s points have come on Vegas’ power play, which ranks second in the league.

Mitch Marner will step in for Stone at the goal line on the power play, while defenseman Shea Theodore will move to the top unit.

The Knights (4-0-2) head into their toughest test of the young season, at home against the undefeated Carolina Hurricanes (5-0-0), short-handed with their forward lines and at the blue line.

Stone joins forward Brett Howden and defenseman Noah Hanifin, who are both out.

Howden, sidelined with a lower-body injury, has resumed skating but won’t be available against the Hurricanes. Hanifin hasn’t resumed skating since Vegas’ 6-5 shootout loss to Los Angeles in the season opener on due to an undisclosed injury.

Mitch Marner loves to “hear the love and the loudness” inside T-Mobile Arena, his new home arena with the Golden Knights.

Saturday he helped fuel the energy for an announced crowd of 17,811 by scoring his first two goals as a Knight, while Vegas cruised to a 6-1 win over the Calgary Flames.

Vegas (4-0-2) extended its season-opening point streak to six games.

Team captain Mark Stone finished with two goals and two assists, while Jack Eichel had four assists.

Tomas Hertl and Ivan Barbashev also scored for the Knights.

Adin Hill earned his first win of the season after stopping 26 shots, as he made his first start since exiting the game in Calgary on Tuesday.

“I felt in control the whole night,” Hill said. “They kept kind of looking for backdoor plays on the power play. And I was just trying to kind of stay in my net and keep my feet under me and do everything I came to be in position.”

And while the Flames finished 1 of 3 on the power play, Vegas was a perfect 3 of 3 with the man advantage.

The Golden Knights rank second in the NHL with their power play percentage (37.5%).

“It’s pretty fun,” Marner said of the power play. “So many different threats out there that make plays. For me, it’s just trying to find open ice for Jack to make his play. … They’ve done a great job down low, really making teams play in different areas there. It’s been a lot of fun to watch.”

Marner opened the scoring just 46 seconds into the game, bringing the home crowd to life immediately. But it was the 28-year-old forward’s crafty stick work that sent the crowd into a frenzy near the end of the second period.

Marner extended Vegas’ lead to four goals when he gathered a pass from Stone during a power play, skated to the front of the crease and used a forehand-backhand deke to beat Calgary netminder Dustin Wolf

Marner now has eight points on the year, after assisting on six goals in the first five games.

Eichel, who extended his season-opening point streak to six games after finishing with four assists, owns the franchise record for the most points through the club’s first six games of the season. His 15 points lead the league, while his five multi-point games are the most by any skater this season.

Stone is second in the league with 13 points, including an NHL-high 11 assists. Eichel is just behind him with 10 helpers.

Stone left the game in the third period after falling to the ice near the neutral zone, and immediately went to the locker room. Television replays showed him rotating his wrist. Cassidy said there were no immediate updates and he would know more by Monday’s morning skate ahead of Vegas’ game against Carolina.

Hertl, who scored his third goal of the season, played in the 797th game of his career. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Hertl will play in his 800th career game on Oct. 26 in Tampa, on the second of a back-to-back after visiting two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida.

Stone Cold Steve Austin at a comic convention

Today’s WWE roster is filled with an abundance of talent, but there are still only a select few who have cultivated a strong emotional connection with the audience. Asked on “Busted Open Radio” to comment on an apparent lack of such an attachment for Seth Rollins, Bully Ray explained why wrestlers like CM Punk have had more success.

“Punk is the consummate rebel,” Bully said. “Punk is as close to ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin today as we can get.”

Similarly, Bully stated that Cody Rhodes won the respect of the audience through his perseverance, ironically on display throughout his feud with Rollins. As for Roman Reigns, he has the benefit of being viewed as a God-like figure by WWE fans, with their emotional attachment growing after Reigns announced he was battling cancer in 2018. Rollins has been at or near the top of the WWE card for just as long as his former Shield partner, but Reigns has tended to be booked as the stronger of the two.

Bully described Rollins as a “nine but not a 10,” stating that he’s missing some unknown factor that would forever endear him to the wrestling audience. As a result, the WWE Hall of Famer feels that Rollins is just a step below some of his current peers at the top of the company’s card.

The Punk and Austin comparison isn’t a brand new idea, and many fans have clamored for a match between the two for well over a decade. It seemed like an impossibility for a long time, but with Punk back in WWE and Austin reportedly open to wrestling another match, it’s no longer such a far-fetched idea.

WWE is a company that operates programming 52 weeks a year, making them far different from movies or other high-profile TV shows. While many believe WWE would benefit from an ‘off-season,’ NXT’s Robert Stone has rejected the idea.

Speaking to The Wrestling History channel, Stone was asked about a potential off-season. For Stone, WWE’s programming is too well-established in history to undergo such a dramatic change.

“It [operating every week] is the only thing I’ve ever known, that every wrestling fan’s ever known. It’s always been like that, right? So I think to take that away [would be difficult.]”

If WWE ever did implement an off-season, one of the biggest questions would be when to take the company off the air. Many have suggested that WrestleMania could serve as a natural season finale, but Stone believes that would mean losing one of WWEâ€s most exciting traditions.

“That Raw [after WrestleMania] is one of the most exciting Raws of the year that people look forward to. So after the big shows when you’re saying it could potentially end and there be a break, I think those next episodes of Raw and Smackdown are the ones that everybody wants to see the most.”

WWE has implemented a number of changes in recent years, including in-ring canvas advertisements and other promotional innovations. Whether TKO ever considers introducing an off-season remains to be seen—but for now, Robert Stone is firmly against the idea.
