Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner received positive news after an MRI revealed he suffered a high left ankle sprain, the team announced.

Wagner underwent the MRI on Monday after he was injured in the first quarter of the Magic’s 106-100 loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday. The injury appeared to be much worse after his left leg bent awkwardly upon a hard landing after a foul. Wagner initially grabbed his leg around his knee.

The MRI showed no structural damage to his left leg, sources told ESPN. The Magic said that Wagner’s return will depend on how he responds to treatment.

Orlando will have to play the Miami Heat in the NBA Cup quarterfinal without Wagner.

The forward has been Orlando’s best and steadiest player, averaging 23.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and improving his 3-point shooting to 35.4% before going down early at New York. He is a big reason why the Magic were able to go 7-3 without Paolo Banchero, who just returned from a groin injury last Friday.

SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green will miss Monday night’s game against the Utah Jazz because of a right foot sprain.

Green suffered the injury when Trail Blazers center Donovan Clingan fell on him during a scramble for a loose ball during a 127-123 home loss on Friday.

This is the latest hit to a Warriors’ frontcourt that is already depleted. Jonathan Kuminga will miss his sixth straight game with bilateral knee tendinitis, and Al Horford is out at least a week with sciatic nerve irritation on his right side.

The MRI on Kuminga’s knees came back clean, sources told ESPN, so there is no structural damage. He has been reporting soreness for about two weeks, and the Warriors were hopeful he would scrimmage on Sunday, but he didn’t.

“He said he’s not moving that well, so I can’t tell you what the outlook is,” Kerr told reporters Sunday. “… He needs to feel better and be able to move better before we can put him out there.”

Horford departed for the locker room in the third quarter after playing 18 minutes against the Blazers. The team initially ruled him out with hamstring tightness but later updated it to a sciatic issue. He will miss at least the next three games against the Jazz, Blazers and Pelicans.

DALLAS — It took the return of Jalen Brunson from a sprained ankle and a fortuitous call for the New York Knicks to register their first road win of the season 113-111 against a shorthanded Dallas Mavericks team Wednesday night.

Brunson suffered a Grade 1 right ankle sprain on a drive to the basket late in a 124-107 home loss to Orlando on Nov. 12. He was evaluated daily while missing two games against the Miami Heat.

But as was his custom last season whenever he missed time, he emerged from the injury looking and performing like himself.

Brunson scored 28 points and dished out the go-ahead 3-pointer to Landry Shamet in the final minute to put the Knicks up three. The game wasn’t decided until the final seconds, when Mavericks guard Brandon Williams was called for an offensive foul for hooking Shamet on what would have been a tying layup with 0.7 seconds left.

“It was the right call,” Knicks coach Mike Brown said. “Because he took [Shamet’s] left arm. I had a great view of it. I’m glad [official] J.T. [Orr] did, but more importantly, I’m glad he made the right call.”

“Chaos,” Brunson said. “At the same time, found a way to win. It was ugly. When you win ugly, it’s a sign of a team learning, getting better. No matter what the situation is, we’ve got to find a way to win.”

Brown applauded Brunson resisting the temptation to call his own number in that situation, given that Brunson was last season’s Clutch Player of the Year and there was the added possibility of sticking it to his former team in the Mavericks, with whom he spent his first four NBA seasons.

“You always trust and family and all that B.S., that coach speak,” Brown said. “To have your best player go and do it. If somebody else doesn’t do it, you say hey, hey, hey, you got to make the right plays down the stretch, our best player is doing it.”

Brunson was a game-time decision but there seemed little doubt he would play. New York was already without swingman OG Anunoby, who suffered a left hamstring strain in Miami and will be evaluated in two weeks.

Dallas was missing No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg (illness) in addition to Anthony Davis (calf). Kyrie Irving has been out all season recovering from an ACL tear.

Still, the Mavericks held a late fourth-quarter lead before the Knicks’ defense stiffened, holding them without a field goal for the last 4:39.

“These are building blocks to the stuff we have to work on now. The quicker we get better at this, the better it’s going to be for us in the long run,” Brunson said. “These are not pressure (situations). This is the stuff we work on. It’s what we do … let’s go out and do it.”

Brunson cut off a question about his ankle before it was finished, saying it felt “fantastic,” but that he wasn’t sure of the severity until the MRI he underwent the day after leaving Madison Square Garden on crutches and in a walking boot.

This was Brunson’s fourth game against Dallas in seven opportunities and first win. He missed the other three with injuries.

Brunson wouldn’t give any response to being in Dallas again as extra motivation for a return, but teammate Josh Hart apparently told him the last couple of days, “If you’re not playing, get off the court.”

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Here are the latest news updates and possible return dates forKnicks players…

Nov. 19, 9:05 p.m.

Jalen Brunson (ankle) will return to the court and start on Wednesday night in Dallas against the Mavericks, the team announced prior to tip-off.

Brunson suffered a Grade 1 right ankle sprain against the Orlando Magic on Nov. 12 and missed the team’s next two games against the Miami Heat. New York split the two contests, winning at home and losing on the road. The team is still searching for their first road win of the season, dropping all four games away from the Garden.

Over 11 games this year, Brunson is averaging 28.0 points on 46.7 percent shooting and 6.5 assists per game.

Meanwhile, the Mavs will be without rookie Cooper Flagg (illness) on Wednesday night as he’ll miss the first game of his career.

Nov. 18, 6:50 p.m.

The Knicks upgraded Jalen Brunson(ankle) to questionable for their Wednesday tip against the Mavericks in Dallas.

Brunson had missed the team’s last two games since suffering a right ankle sprain back on Nov. 12 against the Orlando Magic at MSG. Already without OG Anunoby (hamstring), the Knicks could use their captain to try and get their first road win of the season.

Oct. 28, 7:18 p.m.

Before the Knicks’ tip-off against the Bucks, the Knicks announced that Towns (right quad strain) will play, but Yabusele (left knee sprain) will be out, joining McBride (personal) and Robinson (ankle sprain management) as players who are unavailable for Tuesday’s game.

Oct. 28, 3:35 p.m.

Miles McBride has been downgraded from questionable to out for the Knicks’ game on Tuesday at the Milwaukee Bucks, the team announced. This is the second-straight game the guard missed due to personal reasons. He was out for Sunday’s loss against the Miami Heat.

Oct. 27, 6:45 p.m.

Mitchell Robinson still isn’t ready to make his season debut, as the Knicks have officially ruled him out again for Tuesday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Robinson has been sidelined for the first three games due to left ankle injury management, and it’s still unknown when he’ll make his return to the court.

New York has also listed Karl-Anthony Towns (right quad strain), Miles McBride (personal reasons), and Guerschon Yabusele (left knee sprain) as questionable for the contest.

Yabusele is the only new addition to the injury report. Towns has been included heading into each of the first three games, but played in all three, and McBride missed Sunday’s game against the Heat for personal reasons.

Yabusele left Sunday’s game at one point and had his knee checked, but he was able to return and saw regular time off the bench down the stretch.

Oct. 23, 6:10 p.m.

The latest NBA injury reporthas been released and the Knicks have designated center Mitchell Robinson (left ankle injury management) as out for Friday’s home game against the Celtics.

Robinson missed Wednesday’s season opener and the Knicks are being cautious with their big man this season as they want to have him at close to full strength for an anticipated long playoff run.

The Knicks have also designated both Josh Hart (lower back) and Karl-Anthony Towns(right quad strain) as questionable.

Hart also missed the season opener but has not seen action since the first preseason game where he tweaked his back. Towns almost missed Wednesday’s game but toughed out his quad strain and to help the Knicks’ win against the Cavaliers.

OG Anunoby, who played Wednesday despite being questionable with an ankle sprain, is probably for Friday’s game.

Oct. 22, 10:59 p.m.

Karl-Anthony Towns was questionable, then doubtful, then questionable again in the hours leading up to the Knicks’ win over the Cavaliers and now we know exactly why.

The Knicks forward told reporters after Wednesday’s win that he is playing through a Grade 2 quad strain.

“Iâ€ve been banged up and havenâ€t really got a chance to practice or play in the last two preseason games,” Towns said. “I didnâ€t want to disappoint the fans, dealing with a Grade 2 quad strain. Itâ€s not something thatâ€s easy to do. We made it happen tonight. Glad the fans respect the effort I put in to play tonight, and my teammates, too. Shoutout to them for supporting me, knowing the situation that I was in.”

Towns played through the pain to give the Knicks 19 points and 11 rebounds in 30 minutes.

New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson sustained a Grade 1 right ankle sprain in Wednesday night’s game and will be evaluated daily moving forward, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Thursday.

Brunson was ruled out for Friday’s game against the Miami Heat, per the injury report.

Brunson suffered the injury on a drive to the basket with under two minutes remaining in the Knicks’ 124-107 home loss to the Orlando Magic.

After the game, coach Mike Brown said only that Brunson turned his ankle but offered no further details. Brunson wasn’t available to speak to reporters but was seen leaving Madison Square Garden in a walking boot and using crutches.

The Knicks trailed 115-99 at the time of Brunson’s injury. He scored 31 points with six assists before taking himself out of the game with 1:52 to play.

The injury is to the same ankle Brunson sprained last season that forced him to sit out 15 games. It was initially termed a two-week injury, but he sat out additional time before returning for the playoffs. He seemed to aggravate the ankle injury a couple of times in the first round but appeared otherwise unbothered by it during New York’s run to the Eastern Conference finals.

The loss to the Magic ended the Knicks’ five-game winning streak and was their first defeat at home after starting the season 7-0 at MSG.

ESPN’s Vincent Goodwill contributed to this report.

New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 right ankle sprain and will miss the teamâ€s game Friday night at home against the Miami Heat, according to ESPN.

Brunson sustained the injury late in the Knicks†124-107 loss to the Orlando Magic at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. Brunson posted 31 points and six assists in 37 minutes before leaving the game. Last season, Brunson missed time on the court due to an ankle injury as well.

The Knicks are currently tied for first place (7-4) in the Atlantic Division with the Philadelphia 76ers. They are also tied for third place in the East, in what many analysts feel is a wide-open conference. After Friday nightâ€s game at MSG with the Heat, the Knicks start a five-game road trip in Miami on Monday.

Friday will be Brunsonâ€s first missed game of the season, and heâ€s been off to a hot start, averaging 28 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. Last season, Brunson led the Knicks to 51 wins and the franchise’s first Eastern Conference finals appearance since the 1999-2000 season. Brunson even took home Clutch Player of the Year honors for his frequent late-game heroics in the regular season.

Since joining the Knicks in 2022, Brunson has played more than 68 games just once and missed a total of 17 last season. With the tricky nature of ankle injuries, it wouldnâ€t be surprising if Brunson was out beyond Fridayâ€s game with the Heat. Guards Miles McBride and Jordan Clarkson will need to pick up the slack and fill the void left by Brunsonâ€s absence.

The next chapter in the Heat-Knicks rivalry begins Friday with an NBA Cup group stage game at 7 p.m. ET from Madison Square Garden and broadcast on Prime Video.

This is as good of news as the Knicks could have hoped for after Jalen Brunson hobbled off the court with 1:54 left against Orlando on Wednesday and went straight to the locker room.

Brunson has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 right ankle sprain, a story broken by Shams Charania of ESPN and Ian Begley of SNY.tv and since confirmed by multiple other sources. He is out Friday night when the Knicks host the Heat in an NBA Cup game, after which he will be day-to-day.

A Grade 1 sprain is the least severe level of sprain, and recovery can take anywhere from less than a week up to almost three weeks. This is the same ankle Brunson sprained at the end of last season.

Brunson was still in the game with the Knicks down 16 and less than two minutes to go in the game when the injury took place, something former Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau was criticized for (and new coach Mike Brown said he would change). After the game, Brown said he had no update, and Brunson did not speak to reporters but was seen leaving the arena in a boot using crutches.

Brunson is averaging 28 points and 6.5 assists a game this season for the 7-4 Knicks, who sit third in the Eastern Conference. Brunson has had the ball in his hands less this season — fewer dribbles and seconds holding the ball when he gets it — and has shown he can thrive off the ball as well

The Los Angeles Clippers, losers of four in a row and 5-of-6, will be without Kawhi Leonard for a few more games due to a sprained ankle, coach Tyronn Lue said Saturday before the Clippers went out and dropped that fourth in a row to the Suns.

“Heâ€s gonna miss the next few games, but nothing serious, and weâ€ll just evaluate it from there,†Lue said, via Justin Russo at Substack.

Leonard has already missed the Clippers†last three games. Lueâ€s assessment is pretty vague, but welcome to modern NBA injury reporting (the discussion of that and the leagueâ€s gambling challenges is a topic for another day). Leonard played just 37 games last season due to injuries and has cleared the 65-game threshold just once in the past nine seasons (two years ago, when he was an All-Star and second-team All-NBA player, he still has that impact when healthy).

Leonard is averaging 24.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists a game this season, but the Clippers are still getting outscored by 10.7 points per 100 possessions when he is on the court (which is more about struggles with the Clippers than Leonard himself).

The Clippers are home Monday (Hawks) and Wednesday (Nuggets) — games it sounds like Leonard will miss — before heading out on the road for seven straight across two weeks (one of those games is against the Lakers).

Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young sustained a sprained MCL in his right knee and will be reevaluated in four weeks, sources told ESPN on Saturday.

Young underwent an MRI on Friday and multiple doctor reviews that showed he dodged major structural damage in the knee.

Young suffered the injury during the first quarter of Wednesday’s win over the Brooklyn Nets when he was standing underneath the basket when teammate Mouhamed Gueye was shoved by Nets forward Noah Clowney and fell backward into Young’s leg

Young left the team, which finishes a four-game road trip on Sunday in Cleveland, to go back to Atlanta to undergo the MRI and see doctors.

The reigning assists champ, Young is averaging 17.8 points and 7.8 assists this season.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young has no issues with his ACL after leaving Wednesday night’s 117-112 win over the Brooklyn Nets with a right knee sprain, according to coach Quin Snyder.

“The most important thing is it is not his ACL,” Snyder said after the game. “He’s going to get an MRI tonight or tomorrow, and make a determination from there. Not sure how long or what respect, but something he’s hopefully going to be back from whenever possible.”

Young, who entered the night averaging 20.8 points and 9.5 assists, was standing under the basket when teammate Mouhamed Gueye — after being pushed in the chest by Nets forward Noah Clowney — fell backward and into Young’s leg, sending him crashing to the ground.

Young was down for a while in pain before he eventually got to his feet and jogged to the bench during the ensuing timeout. He remained in the game once play resumed, but after seeing Young on the court for a few moments, Snyder took him out 17 seconds later. Young immediately went to the locker room.

”He didn’t want to come out of the game,” Snyder said. “He’s such a competitor. He takes a lot of pride in being available … You saw it tonight, too. He tried to stay in there. He told me, ‘Just give me a couple minutes,’ and I told him, ‘If I don’t like what I see, I’m taking you out.'”

Although it appears Young has escaped the most serious injury outcome, it also seems likely that the Hawks, who are now 2-3 after avoiding a late collapse to beat the winless Nets (0-5), will be without their floor general for the foreseeable future.

Atlanta came into the season with high expectations following a summer that saw the team trade for Kristaps Porzingis and sign Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard in free agency, but the one thing the Hawks do not have is someone to replace Young’s orchestration at the point.

Atlanta started the second half with Alexander-Walker in Young’s place, which could give the Hawks a dominant defensive group while he is sidelined. But last season Young led the NBA with a career-high 11.6 assists per game, and no one on the roster is capable of single-handedly taking on that creation load in his absence.

As a result, Snyder said the group will have to work together if Atlanta is going to survive without him.

“Anytime a player of Trae’s caliber, particularly someone that has the ball and is orchestrating situations on the offensive end, that’s an adjustment we had to make on the fly,” Snyder said. “Whether it was Luke [Kennard] or Nickeil or Dyson [Daniels] or [Jalen Johnson], the key thing when we are playing that way is everybody has got to be willing to play with the pass, and try to get advantages that way.

“It’s something we’ll keep working on, depending where Trae is with his health.”
