Darren Waller is set to make his Miami Dolphins debut this week.

Per ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Waller is expected to play against the New York Jets on Monday, though McDaniel clarified that it will be a “situational snap count or package.”

McDaniel also told reporters that Waller, who has been dealing with a hip injury, has been practicing this week.

Waller, who retired from the NFL after the 2023 season, came out of retirement this summer and was traded from the New York Giants to the Dolphins in July. After joining Miami, Waller spent time on the physically unable to perform list during training camp as he worked his way back into football shape.

McDaniel was optimistic about Waller possible being ready to go for the start of the season, but made it clear he wasn’t rushing Waller back to the field.

“This is where we thought a realistic assessment would be made, we’re kind of making that daily,” McDaniel told reporters last month. “I’m expecting to see him sooner than later. In the back of my mind, it would be this week, but I’m not going to just put him out there this week just because I said it before.

“I’m hopeful, but it’s very soon so we’re just making sure all our ducks are in a row before we take that listing off of him.”

Now, it appears the former Pro Bowler will finally get the chance to suit up for the first time this year.
