Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who was released last month after just three games with the Houston Texans, has landed a practice squad deal with the Baltimore Ravens, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Gardner-Johnson, who started all three of his games with Houston, had 15 tackles (11 solo) and a quarterback hit.
He previously signed a three-year, $27 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the 2024 season. In his second stint with the team, Gardner-Johnson excelled with Philadelphia en route to helping the team to a Super Bowl win, leading the squad with six interceptions.
After the season, Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Texans for left guard Kenyon Green in what amounted to a cost-cutting move.
However, his time in town didn’t last long. Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 provided more details.
Now Gardner-Johnson is on the practice squad of the Ravens, who have started 1-4 and allowed the most points in the league through five weeks (177).
The Ravens have dealt with a litany of injuries on the defensive side of the ball.
Of note, two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike is out for the season with a neck injury. Three-time First Team All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith is dealing with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Two-time Pro Bowl safety Kyle Hamilton just missed his team’s 44-10 loss to the Houston Texans with a groin injury. Linebacker Kyle Van Noy, who led Baltimore with 12.5 sacks last season, missed a pair of games with a hamstring ailment. Two-time First-Team All-Pro cornerback Marlon Humphrey suffered a groin injury in Week 4 and has been out since. Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie missed last Sunday with a hamstring injury.
Needless to say, the Ravens need help, especially since the team is already missing superstar quarterback and two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, who is out with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 4. Simply put, without Jackson, the Ravens aren’t in position to win shootouts with the defense so short-handed.
So Gardner-Johnson, who is on the practice squad, could very well be on the active roster down the road with the team needing reinforcements.
In the meantime, the Ravens have another tough matchup on Sunday against the high-scoring Los Angeles Rams. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET at home.

WWE has officially signed two new stars.
WWE‘s roster is always growing, given the demands of the numerous shows they have every week. New stars are constantly being added to the roster, as some others are also leaving. For example, Andrade was recently let go by the company, while Edris Enofe also revealed his departure. The promotion also cuts its roster from time to time as several underutilized talents are released. Some decisions even end up baffling fans, as top stars at the height of their popularity are also let go.
However, WWE has now signed two stars, namely Shiloh Hill and Dani Sekelsky from LFG.
They Won WWE LFG Season 2
Shiloh Hill and Dani Sekelsky are the winners of WWE LFG Season 2 and have gotten NXT contracts from the brand’s head booker, Shawn Michaels. This was officially confirmed on the season finale of LFG as Hill and Sekelsky were crowned the winners among the men and women, respectively.
The stars were announced as the winners by Michaels himself and were handed brand new NXT contracts. They will soon debut on the brand.

Both stars have been mentored by The Undertaker, but the night still ended in disappointment for him, as Michelle McCool took home the LFG Title.
A new report from Fightful Select has revealed that WWE powerhouse Bronson Reed quietly signed a new multi-year contract with the company several months ago. The news, which had not been previously reported, confirms that the Raw superstar will be a fixture on WWE programming for the foreseeable future. Reed has been a consistent and reliable performer for the company since his return in 2022, and this long-term deal is a clear sign of the faith that WWE management has in him as a key part of their roster.
According to the report, sources indicated that Reed re-signed with WWE “quite a long time ago.” It was also noted that his performance since re-signing has been so impressive that he is reportedly already in a strong position to secure another new and improved deal within the next year.
Reed’s journey in WWE has been a unique one. He first signed with the company in 2019 and became a top star in the “black-and-gold” era of NXT, where he captured the NXT North American Championship. He was surprisingly released from the company in August 2021 but went on to have an impressive run in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, which ultimately led to WWE bringing him back in December 2022. Since his return to the main roster, he has been a dominant force on Monday Night Raw and is currently a key member of the “Vision” faction alongside World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker.
Manchester City winger Savinho has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2031.
The 21-year-old Brazilian is in his second season, having joined from sister club Troyes for £30.8m in 2024.
Savinho has played 54 times for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring four goals and creating 12 assists.
“I am incredibly proud to be able to sign this new contract with City,” he said.
“It’s a very special feeling to know that Pep and the club have placed such faith in me. It really means a lot to me and my family.”
Tottenham opened talks to sign Savinho during the summer, but City were adamant he was not for sale.
“I feel I have so much improving to do – I am still young and very hungry to keep learning,” added the ex-PSV Eindhoven and Girona player.
“But I know that working with Pep and his staff will help me to keep developing as a player.”
Last month, City manager Guardiola said Savinho would become a “top player” for the club.
“For the people up front, it is always about numbers – goals and assists,” he added. “Savinho created a lot last season but in the final third, the final moment he was a little bit too hectic.
“But the moment he learns that, because he is so young, the more he improves, he will be a top-class player because he can play on both sides, he has got the speed and the work ethic.
“Savio will make this step, naturally it will come and he will be a top player for Man City.”
City’s director of football Hugo Viana added: “Savinho is still very young, but he has already demonstrated that he possesses the qualities needed to become a truly outstanding player.”
The new deal for Savinho, who has one goal in 13 Brazil appearances, follows those for midfielder Nico O’Reilly and full-back Rico Lewis.
Restricted free agent Quentin Grimes has signed a one-year, $8.7 million qualifying offer to return to the Philadelphia 76ers, agent David Bauman told ESPN on Wednesday.
Grimes, who averaged career highs in points (14.6), rebounds (4.3), assists (3) and steals (1) last season, will now have the ability to veto all trades during the 2025-26 season and will enter unrestricted free agency next summer when at least 10 teams are slated to have significant salary cap space.

After Grimes’ side indicated it desired a contract in the $30 million range early in free agency and then a deal at around $20 million to $25 million, the two sides never found traction on a new agreement this offseason ahead of Wednesday’s 11:59 p.m. ET deadline for the qualifying offer.
Bauman said the Sixers’ first formal proposal of the offseason came Sept. 24 — nearly three months into free agency — with a four-year, $39 million offer. Days later, Grimes was offered a one-year, $8.8 million deal that gave him $100,000 more than his qualifying offer in order to waive an inherent no-trade clause. Those frameworks were declined, Bauman said, and negotiations never advanced.
On Wednesday, Bauman said Grimes’ side offered the 76ers a one-year framework at $17 million while waiving the no-trade clause and a two-year deal at $34 million with a player option. Both were rejected by the 76ers, Bauman said.

The 76ers selected VJ Edgecombe with the No. 3 pick in the NBA draft to bolster their backcourt and have had uncertainty entering the 2025-26 season given the injury concerns from last season surrounding Joel Embiid and Paul George — two factors challenging their ability to provide a high-money proposal to Grimes this offseason. With Grimes now on the qualifying offer, the 76ers will retain his Bird rights and believe they have a solid chance to retain him while maintaining the sign-and-trade possibility next summer.
Grimes, 25, averaged 21.9 points and 4.5 assists in 28 games with the 76ers after being traded from the Dallas Mavericks at the February deadline. He had five 30-point games and two 40-point games with the 76ers last season. He is set to reclaim a significant role in the 76ers backcourt to start this season as Jared McCain is expected to miss four to six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn UCL in his right thumb.
Grimes was selected No. 25 in the 2021 NBA draft and spent his first two seasons with the New York Knicks prior to trades to the Detroit Pistons, Mavericks and 76ers from 2023 to 2025.
He was the last of the restricted free agents to reach a deal. Josh Giddey (four years, $100 million with the Bulls), Cam Thomas (one year, $6 million qualifying offer with the Nets) and Jonathan Kuminga (two years, $48.5 million with the Warriors) signed in September.
Entering free agency, the Nets were among just a few teams with significant cap space, which created a freeze for the restricted free agent market. The Nets have operated as the only team with real cap space over the past two months.

The Portland Thorns have traded midfielder Hina Sugita to Angel City FC in exchange for defender M.A. Vignola and $600,000 in intra-league transfer funds, the teams confirmed Tuesday.
In cash terms, the deal for Sugita matches the $600,000 that the Kansas City Current paid Utah Royals FC for USWNT forward Ally Sentnor in August but also includes a starting-caliber player. Jaedyn Shaw’s move from the North Carolina Courage to NJ/NY Gotham FC for $1.25 million in September set the intra-league record and ranks among the six biggest global transfers to date.
Although the NWSL’s external transfer deadline has passed, intra-league trades are still permissible through the league’s roster freeze deadline at 3 p.m. ET on Oct. 9.

Sugita, typically a starting midfielder for the Thorns, has seen her playing time diminish in September. She started only one of Portland’s four games this month. She has three assists this season and has not yet scored.
“I am so grateful to have the opportunity to join Angel City,” said Sugita in Angel City’s statement. “I feel a lot of energy and passion from the club, and I’m happy to be part of this community. I’m very excited to play for this team and look forward to seeing the fans at BMO Stadium.”
Portland has an abundance of midfielders, with U.S. internationals Sam Coffey and Olivia Moultrie, and Canada international Jessie Fleming also in the regular rotation.
The Thorns attempted to keep Sugita by offering an improved, extended contract, but couldn’t match Angel City’s terms, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation who could not discuss the matter publicly.
The 28-year-old Japan international first joined the Thorns in 2022, when the team won its third NWSL Championship. She has represented Japan at the past two World Cups.

Vignola is a 27-year-old fullback who grew up playing forward. She was recently thrust back into a wide forward role after franchise player Alyssa Thompson left Angel City in a blockbuster transfer to six-time reigning English champions Chelsea.
Vignola earned her first and, to date, only cap for the USWNT in September 2023. She will provide the Thorns with needed depth at fullback.
“M.A. is exactly the type of player we’ve been looking to add,” said Thorns general manager Jeff Agoos in a statement. “She addresses a critical need in our squad — a physical, no-nonsense defender who isn’t afraid to do the dirty work and sets a standard with her competitiveness
“. She’s the kind of teammate you want in any battle, and her addition positions us for success as we enter into the playoffs and beyond.”
Angel City has invested heavily in fullbacks Gisele Thompson — the 19-year-old sister of Alyssa — and Japan international Miyabi Moriya.
Ali Riley, a fullback who has been Angel City’s captain since the team’s inaugural season in 2022, also announced on Tuesday that she will retire at the end of the year.
Per the NWSL’s transfer rules, Angel City likely has a positive net transfer fund balance from the sale of Alyssa Thompson. Each NWSL team operates under a $550,000 net transfer threshold in 2025, with incoming and outgoing transfers offsetting that number and any surplus partially counting against the salary cap. The transfer fund threshold resets at the end of the year.
Angel City did not disclose how much of the roughly $1.4 million it received up front from Chelsea for the transfer of Thompson, but any incoming fees this year only count toward the 2025 net transfer cap. Any fees received this year would have given Angel City more spending power for other transfers.
Sugita was originally recruited by Portland when Mark Parsons was the Thorns’ coach, but Sugita officially signed after Parsons left the club. Parsons is now the sporting director for Angel City FC.
“Hina is a world class midfielder who has consistently been one the best players in this extremely competitive league,” Parsons said. “She is dynamic with high game intelligence who we believe helps us on the field and brings valuable experience off the field. We are proud to bring a championship-caliber player to Angel City.”
The trade is the second in just over a month between the Thorns and Angel City. Portland previously signed forward Julie Dufour and a 2025 international roster spot from Angel City for $40,000 in intra-league transfer funds. Dufour scored two goals in five games for Portland before tearing her ACL.
Angel City hosts Portland on Oct. 19, the penultimate matchday of the NWSL regular season.
William Saliba has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
Sources have told ESPN the France centre-back’s new deal runs until 2030 and the announcement ends months of speculation over a possible move to Real Madrid.
“I feel proud of myself because I first signed in 2019, and now in 2025, I’m still here to extend my contract. I’m so happy,” Saliba said in a statement.
“I feel at home. We have a good team, we have a good squad, we have good staff. The coach is perfect for me, so it’s the best place to be.
“I enjoy every day when I have the chance to wear this shirt. I try to give everything, and now I’ll give even more to this club and to the fans.
“The boss is one of the best coaches in the world. He has helped me a lot, him and his staff, so I’m so happy to have them as a coach. I’m 24 now, and I think I haven’t reached my peak. I have a lot of things to improve, a lot of things to give to this team, and I know that the coach and the staff will help me to become the best, or one of the best, defenders in the world and win trophies.”

The 24-year-old had entered the final two years of his previous contract and manager Mikel Arteta strongly hinted last week that the club had addressed Madrid’s interest in direct discussions with the player.
Saliba’s decision to stay is a major boost to Arsenal as they seek to win their first Premier League title since 2004. He has formed one of English football’s strongest centre-back partnerships alongside Gabriel Magalhães, who also signed a new contract to 2029 in June.

Saliba joined Arsenal in 2019 for £27 million ($36.6m) from Saint-Etienne but there were doubts whether he would make the grade at Emirates Stadium. He spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Saint-Etienne before another loan spell at Nice in 2021.
Saliba was again shipped out for the following season to Marseille, where he was named Ligue 1 young player of the year.
He has since made 140 appearances for Arsenal.
“We’re so happy that William has committed his future to us to be part of what we’re building here,” Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta said.
“In the last three seasons, William has become an incredible defender whose composure, intelligence and physical presence make him one of the best in the world. He will continue his development with Arsenal to reach new heights.
“His consistency, maturity, and ability to influence matches will continue to be a big asset for us and we’re looking forward to many more great performances from him at the heart of our defence.”
Middlesex seam bowler Toby Roland-Jones has signed a one-year contract extension to 2026.
The club legend, 37, has played his entire career for the county since making his debut in 2010.
Roland-Jones claimed a hat-trick as Middlesex beat Yorkshire to seal their first Division One title for 2023 years in 2016.
In 157 first-class appearances for the club, he has taken 577 wickets at an average of 25.14.
“I’m delighted to sign an extension with the club, a place that has been home for 16 years and counting now,” Roland-Jones told the club’s website, external.
“I remain as motivated as ever to try and push the standards and restore the club back to its desired position, competing in Division One cricket whilst challenging for white-ball honours.
“It was a privilege to lead this great club, and I’m equally excited to slip back into the bowling ranks and assist the new leadership in any way possible.”
Roland-Jones was the second-highest wicket taker in County Championship Division Two last season with 45.
He took 4-57 in his side’s final match of the season against Gloucestershire as they finished fourth in the table.
Roland-Jones has five England caps, four in Test cricket plus a lone one-day international.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed goaltender Anthony Stolarz to a four-year, $15 million contract extension, the team said Sunday.
Stolarz is entering the final season of a two-year pact he signed with the Maple Leafs as a free agent ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. This new deal cements his status as the team’s No. 1 goaltender going forward and completes a priority negotiation for the club.
The extension comes after Toronto announced earlier this month that goaltender Joseph Woll was taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team for personal reasons. Woll split duties with Stolarz last season and is signed with the Maple Leafs through 2027-28.

Stolarz arrived in Toronto after backing up Sergei Bobrovsky on the Florida Panthers’ 2023-24 Stanley Cup run, when he led the league with a .927 save percentage in 27 regular-season games. He played a career-high 34 games for the Maple Leafs last season, going 21-8-3 with a league-leading .926 save percentage and a 2.14 goals-against average.
Stolarz was sidelined by significant injuries, too, missing time in the regular season following knee surgery and then being forced out of playoff action with a concussion sustained in Toronto’s second-round series against Florida.
The 31-year-old did backstop the Maple Leafs to their first-round victory over Ottawa, recording a .901 save percentage and a 2.19 GAA in seven total appearances.
Toronto now is counting on Stolarz not only to stay healthy this season but to take on even more responsibility.
“He showed us last year that he can handle the load,” Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube said last week. “He’s a veteran guy now. He’s been around for a long time. He’s learned over the years how to take care of his body and what type of shape he needs to be in to be able to handle a heavier workload, and he wants a heavier workload.”
With Woll sidelined, the Maple Leafs attempted to find a backup for Stolarz by signing veteran James Reimer to a professional tryout Friday. Reimer was a fourth-round selection by Toronto in the 2006 NHL draft and spent six seasons playing for the team. Now, the 37-year-old is on track to potentially earn a contract to be the club’s No. 2 until Woll can return.
Red Wings recent 5th round pick Nikita Tyurin signs four-year extension with Russian club
Detroit Red Wings 2025 fifth-round pick Nikita Tyurin has committed to staying in Russia for the foreseeable future, signing a new four-year contract with his MHL club, HC Spartak Moscow.
The deal, announced on Wednesday by the team, runs through the end of the 2028–29 season and marks a significant step in the young defenseman’s development path.

Finnie, Danielson Shine as Red Wings Slip Past Blackhawks in Preseason Opener
Detroit prospects Emmitt Finnie and Nate Danielson delivered impressive performances in the Red Wings†3-2 preseason-opening win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.
Tyurin, 18, had a breakout debut in Russiaâ€s Junior Hockey League (MHL), playing a key role in JHC Spartak Moscowâ€s run to the Kharlamov Cup championship. Standing 6 feet tall and weighing 187 pounds, the Moscow native reportedly totaled 30 points (6 goals, 24 assists) over 75 games across all competitions, establishing himself as one of Spartakâ€s most promising young defensemen.
In 50 regular-season MHL games, Tyurin recorded 20 points (4 goals, 16 assists), finishing as Spartakâ€s second-highest scoring defenseman while averaging 18 minutes of ice time per game. His mature, poised play earned him a spot in the MHL All-Star Game, a gold medal at the Challenge Cup, and a call-up to the KHL, where he made his debut with Spartakâ€s senior team.
We recently highlighted some of his early success this season and broke down a recent interview Tyurin had done with the JHL website, where he mentioned he needs to continue to add muscle and weight as he felt undersized going into puck battles. He added that he added 13 pounds in the off-season after weighing in at 174 pounds last season.

“It’s Time”: Dylan Larkin Lays Out Clear Goal For Red Wings
The city of Detroit hasn’t hosted a Stanley Cup Playoff game since April 2016 against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Joe Louis Arena, who at that time were overseen by general manager Steve Yzerman.
While the new deal means Tyurin is likely to remain in Russia for at least the next few seasons, it could benefit both player and NHL team alike. He would turn 22 years old at the end of his deal and could present the option to follow up his development in the Spartak system with a stint in North America with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
For now, Tyurin should receive opportunities in both the MHL and KHL with valuable ice time and experience before making the leap to pro hockey. With a new contract in place and a championship already under his belt, Tyurin now turns his focus to further cementing his place as one of Russiaâ€s top young defensive talents.
Also signing a four-year extension with Spartak is fellow young blueliner Vsevolod Matveev (17), who played in 47 MHL games last season and has already appeared in four KHL contests this year.
