England all-rounder Charlie Dean has signed a two-year contract extension with Somerset.

The 24-year-old spinner, who is currently on international duty with England at the World Cup in India, came through the Hampshire set-up and joined Somerset last November following a seven-season stint with Southern Vipers.

Dean featured in 12 matches across the formats for Trevor Griffin’s side this summer, scoring 180 runs and claiming 14 wickets. Her new deal will see her remain with Somerset through to the conclusion of the 2027 season.

“I’m delighted; it’s nice to be rewarded with the faith of the club because I’ve really enjoyed playing for Somerset,” Dean said.

“I’m really excited for the next few years as this group learns and grows.

“It’s an exciting time for the team and hopefully we can continue to build and put in a few more match-winning performances next season.

“It’s been a really enjoyable first year and everyone in Taunton has been so welcoming. It’s a great place to play cricket and there’s a real sense of community down here.”

Dean made her county debut with Hampshire in 2016 at the age of 15 and won five trophies during her time with Southern Vipers, including the Charlotte Edwards Cup and Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

She has also played for London Spirit in The Hundred since 2021, and was part of the side that lifted the trophy at Lord’s in 2024.

Having first been called into the England ODI squad in 2021, Dean now has 98 international caps to her name in which she has claimed 148 wickets and scored over 600 runs.

She was named PCA Women’s ODI Player of the Year in 2022, signing her first central contract in November of that year.

(Content warning: This story contains descriptions of alleged sexual assault.)

Carter Hart, one of the five hockey players who in July were acquitted of sexual assault stemming from a 2018 incident, is joining the Vegas Golden Knights organization, the team announced Thursday.

Following the reinstatement decision agreed on by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players†Association, goaltender Carter Hart will be joining the Vegas Golden Knights organization,” the team said in a statement. “The Golden Knights are aligned with the process and assessment the NHL and NHLPA made in their decision. We remain committed to the core values that have defined our organization from its inception and expect that our players will continue to meet these standards moving forward.”

After initially ruling in July that the five players were ineligible from returning to the NHL, the league announced in September that the players would be able to sign contracts as of Oct. 15 and be fully reinstated to play on Dec. 1.

Hart has signed a tryout deal with the Golden Knights, which will then be converted into a standard contract reportedly worth $3.6 million over two years. He is currently able to practice and is eligible to play minor league games in the AHL beginning on Nov. 15.

The 27-year-old Hart was a second-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2016. He made 218 starts between 2018 and 2024, posting a 96-93-29 record and a .906 save percentage with six shutouts. His last appearance in the NHL came during a game against the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 20, 2024.

Hart, along with Michael McLeod, Dillon Dubé, Cal Foote and Alex Formenton, were found not guilty by a London, Ontario, judge after being accused dating back to a 2018 incident when the five players were in London for a gala and golf tournament in honor of their championship win as part of Canadaâ€s world junior hockey team. A woman, known as E.M. in the trial, has alleged that the players sexually assaulted her over several hours in a hotel room after the event.

Judge Maria Carroccia started her verdict by saying that she did not find E.M.’s testimony to be “credible or reliable,” later noting that her story had inconsistencies. She also felt that prosecutors did not prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt, giving her the need to lean towards acquittal.

“Having found that I cannot rely upon the evidence of E.M. and then considering the evidence in this trial as a whole, I conclude that the Crown cannot meet its onus on any of the counts before me,” the judge said earlier in the ruling.

The case was reopened after E.M. reached an undisclosed settlement with Hockey Canada and the Canadian Hockey League in 2022. That lawsuit had alleged that eight players, who were unnamed at the time, had been involved.

Charges were not filed until 2024, when the names of five players who were charged were revealed. Other players were involved but did not face charges, having allegedly left the hotel room before the assault took place; those players were called to the stand to testify on the night in question.

Four of the players — McLeod, Hart, Dubé and Foote — were playing in the NHL at the time that charges were filed, while Formenton was playing in Switzerland.

McLeod recently signed with Russia’s Avangard Omsk; Formenton is in his third season with HC Ambrì-Piotta of the Swiss League; while Foote and Dubé remain free agents.

Michael McLeod, one of five Hockey Canada players who were found not guilty of sexual assault charges in July, has signed a three-year contract with Avangard Omsk of Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.

McLeod, Dillon Dubé, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton and Carter Hart were members of Hockey Canada’s 2018 National U-20 Junior Team. They were criminally charged in early 2024 for an alleged incident that took place after the 2018 Hockey Canada Foundation Gala in London, Ontario. In July, Ontario Superior Court Justice Maria Carroccia found the five players not guilty of sexual assault. McLeod also was acquitted of a separate charge of being a party to the offense of sexual assault.

The NHL said at the time that those players were ineligible to rejoin the league until reinstated through its own investigation. The league announced in September that the five players would be eligible to play in the NHL again beginning on Dec. 1.

“Taking into account that the players have been away from the game for 20 months — including since their acquittals in July — we have determined that the players will be eligible to sign an NHL contract no sooner than October 15, 2025, and eligible to play in NHL games no sooner than December 1, 2025, bringing their total time out of the League to nearly two years,” the NHL said in a statement.

The NHLPA said it was “pleased [the players] will have the opportunity to resume” their NHL careers.

McLeod, 27, last played in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils in the 2023-24 season. He played 19 games with Omsk in 2024-25, one of two KHL teams he joined as the Hockey Canada investigation and legal process played out.

Avangard Omsk is coached by former Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators coach Guy Boucher.

Alexey Sopin, general manager of Avangard Omsk, said via Telegram: “Negotiations with Michael and his representatives were brief. The player everyone has been waiting for will once again don the Hawks’ uniform. We are very pleased that this difficult situation has ended positively for both us and the player.”

There was speculation recently that the Carolina Hurricanes were interested in signing McLeod. That news created immediate backlash from Hurricanes fans, including a petition urging the team to reconsider signing McLeod that had over 1,700 signatures. A deal with McLeod and Carolina never materialized.

McLeod was drafted 12th overall in 2016 by the Devils and had 85 points in 287 career games. He was one of the team’s top defensive forwards when he and Foote were granted “indefinite leaves of absences from the team” on Jan. 24, 2024. The players were charged with sexual assault in the following month.

Of the remaining Hockey Canada players who are unsigned, multiple reports have linked Hart, a former Philadelphia Flyers goaltender, with the Vegas Golden Knights.

One day after reports circulated that Santos Escobar’s WWE contract expired, the veteran Superstar reportedly agreed to a new deal with the company on Wednesday.

According to PWInsider.com (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), WWE made Escobar an offer that was “significantly higher” than previous ones, which led to the two sides coming to terms.

PWInsider.com (h/t Carrier) previously reported that Escobar’s WWE contract was up at midnight ET on Tuesday, meaning he was officially a free agent for at least a short period of time.

It was also noted by PWInsider.com (h/t Carrier) that while WWE had upped its financial offer for Escobar before his deal expired, he turned it down due to concerns about how he would be utilized.

Once Escobar’s contract expired, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News) reported that multiple people within WWE expected Escobar to sign with AEW.

That would have marked the second major WWE-to-AEW defection recently, as Andrade returned to AEW last week after getting released by WWE.

However, Escobar and WWE reportedly reached a new pact, meaning the 41-year-old’s six-year tenure with the promotion has been extended.

Escobar’s greatest success in WWE came as part of the NXT brand. He won the Cruiserweight Championship shortly after his debut, and he created the Legado del Fantasma stable.

Things haven’t gone quite as smoothly for Escobar since getting called up to the main roster in 2022, although he has had his moments.

Escobar spent some time as a member of the LWO before turning on Rey Mysterio. That led to a tag team match at WrestleMania 40 that saw Rey and Andrade beat Escobar and Dominik Mysterio.

Santos reformed Legado del Fantasma with Angel and Berto, and in recent months, he has primarily served as a manager for Angel and Berto with his in-ring opportunities being few and far between.

However, with the Mexican star inking a deal to remain in WWE, it suggests that both sides are satisfied with the plans that are in place for him in the future.

Xavier Woods has reportedly signed a multi-year contract extension with WWE, per Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com.

The 39-year-old Woods has been a professional wrestler since 2005. He was with TNA from 2007-2010 before later signing a developmental contract with WWE in 2010. Three years later, Woods made his main roster debut, and he’s been there ever since.

He’s made a major impact with The New Day, winning the tag team championships a total of 12 teams (five Raw, seven SmackDown). He and Kofi Kingston most recently won the World Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania against the War Raiders before dropping the belts to The Judgment Day a few months later on the June 30 edition of Raw.

Woods also won the NXT Tag Team Championship once with Kingston.

On an individual level, Woods notably won the 2021 King of the Ring tournament, beating Finn Bálor in the final at Crown Jewel.

Away from the ring, Woods, under the name Austin Creed, started the wildly successful and popular UpUpDownDown YouTube channel, which has 2.44 million subscribers. Creed plays video games and talks with a host of WWE Superstars on the channel. Of note, he most recently played Borderlands 4 with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.

According to a new report, Xavier Woods signed a multi-year extension with WWE last month.

Fightful reported the news on Tuesday, noting that his contract would have been up in September had a deal not been reached. Negotiations are said to have gone down to the wire.

Woods, Big E, and Kofi Kingston signed five-year deals with WWE in December 2019, although Woods may have had injury time added onto his, pushing its expiration to last month. He missed much of 2020 after suffering an Achilles tendon rupture.

Woods first signed with WWE in the summer of 2010 as a 24-year-old. Prior to that, he wrestled in TNA Wrestling as Consequences Creed from 2008 to 2010, once holding the promotion’s tag titles along with Jay Lethal. He also had one tour with New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2010, teaming with Kota Ibushi in the Super J Tag Tournament, where they lost in the opening round to Gedo and KUSHIDA.

Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who was released last month after just three games with the Houston Texans, has landed a practice squad deal with the Baltimore Ravens, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Gardner-Johnson, who started all three of his games with Houston, had 15 tackles (11 solo) and a quarterback hit.

He previously signed a three-year, $27 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the 2024 season. In his second stint with the team, Gardner-Johnson excelled with Philadelphia en route to helping the team to a Super Bowl win, leading the squad with six interceptions.

After the season, Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Texans for left guard Kenyon Green in what amounted to a cost-cutting move.

However, his time in town didn’t last long. Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 provided more details.

Now Gardner-Johnson is on the practice squad of the Ravens, who have started 1-4 and allowed the most points in the league through five weeks (177).

The Ravens have dealt with a litany of injuries on the defensive side of the ball.

Of note, two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike is out for the season with a neck injury. Three-time First Team All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith is dealing with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Two-time Pro Bowl safety Kyle Hamilton just missed his team’s 44-10 loss to the Houston Texans with a groin injury. Linebacker Kyle Van Noy, who led Baltimore with 12.5 sacks last season, missed a pair of games with a hamstring ailment. Two-time First-Team All-Pro cornerback Marlon Humphrey suffered a groin injury in Week 4 and has been out since. Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie missed last Sunday with a hamstring injury.

Needless to say, the Ravens need help, especially since the team is already missing superstar quarterback and two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, who is out with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 4. Simply put, without Jackson, the Ravens aren’t in position to win shootouts with the defense so short-handed.

So Gardner-Johnson, who is on the practice squad, could very well be on the active roster down the road with the team needing reinforcements.

In the meantime, the Ravens have another tough matchup on Sunday against the high-scoring Los Angeles Rams. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET at home.

WWE has officially signed two new stars.

WWE‘s roster is always growing, given the demands of the numerous shows they have every week. New stars are constantly being added to the roster, as some others are also leaving. For example, Andrade was recently let go by the company, while Edris Enofe also revealed his departure. The promotion also cuts its roster from time to time as several underutilized talents are released. Some decisions even end up baffling fans, as top stars at the height of their popularity are also let go.

However, WWE has now signed two stars, namely Shiloh Hill and Dani Sekelsky from LFG.

They Won WWE LFG Season 2

Shiloh Hill and Dani Sekelsky are the winners of WWE LFG Season 2 and have gotten NXT contracts from the brand’s head booker, Shawn Michaels. This was officially confirmed on the season finale of LFG as Hill and Sekelsky were crowned the winners among the men and women, respectively.

The stars were announced as the winners by Michaels himself and were handed brand new NXT contracts. They will soon debut on the brand.

Both stars have been mentored by The Undertaker, but the night still ended in disappointment for him, as Michelle McCool took home the LFG Title.

A new report from Fightful Select has revealed that WWE powerhouse Bronson Reed quietly signed a new multi-year contract with the company several months ago. The news, which had not been previously reported, confirms that the Raw superstar will be a fixture on WWE programming for the foreseeable future. Reed has been a consistent and reliable performer for the company since his return in 2022, and this long-term deal is a clear sign of the faith that WWE management has in him as a key part of their roster.

According to the report, sources indicated that Reed re-signed with WWE “quite a long time ago.” It was also noted that his performance since re-signing has been so impressive that he is reportedly already in a strong position to secure another new and improved deal within the next year.

Reed’s journey in WWE has been a unique one. He first signed with the company in 2019 and became a top star in the “black-and-gold” era of NXT, where he captured the NXT North American Championship. He was surprisingly released from the company in August 2021 but went on to have an impressive run in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, which ultimately led to WWE bringing him back in December 2022. Since his return to the main roster, he has been a dominant force on Monday Night Raw and is currently a key member of the “Vision” faction alongside World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker.

Manchester City winger Savinho has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2031.

The 21-year-old Brazilian is in his second season, having joined from sister club Troyes for £30.8m in 2024.

Savinho has played 54 times for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring four goals and creating 12 assists.

“I am incredibly proud to be able to sign this new contract with City,” he said.

“It’s a very special feeling to know that Pep and the club have placed such faith in me. It really means a lot to me and my family.”

Tottenham opened talks to sign Savinho during the summer, but City were adamant he was not for sale.

“I feel I have so much improving to do – I am still young and very hungry to keep learning,” added the ex-PSV Eindhoven and Girona player.

“But I know that working with Pep and his staff will help me to keep developing as a player.”

Last month, City manager Guardiola said Savinho would become a “top player” for the club.

“For the people up front, it is always about numbers – goals and assists,” he added. “Savinho created a lot last season but in the final third, the final moment he was a little bit too hectic.

“But the moment he learns that, because he is so young, the more he improves, he will be a top-class player because he can play on both sides, he has got the speed and the work ethic.

“Savio will make this step, naturally it will come and he will be a top player for Man City.”

City’s director of football Hugo Viana added: “Savinho is still very young, but he has already demonstrated that he possesses the qualities needed to become a truly outstanding player.”

The new deal for Savinho, who has one goal in 13 Brazil appearances, follows those for midfielder Nico O’Reilly and full-back Rico Lewis.
