The Buffalo Sabres†2025-26 regular-season is here at last, and the Sabres would certainly like to win their first game – a home game against the New York Rangers Thursday night – an analysis of their schedule tells Sabres fans they need to buckle down and get ready for a true test of this team, right out of the starting block.
No matter what happens against the Rangers Thursday, thereâ€s no let-up for the Sabres, because they donâ€t have a break inschedule for the next 20 games. Legitimately, there are 19 more teams after the Rangers that Buffalo could plausibly lose to.
Need evidence? Here you go: after Thursdayâ€s game, the Sabres are taking on the Boston Bruins – the same Bruins who are determined to make a playoff push after being bitten hard by the injury bug last season. Boston has a new coach, some new players, and returning stars including winger David Pastrnak, defenseman Charlie McAvoy and goalie Jeremy Swayman. They could quickly snuff out Buffaloâ€s momentum if thatâ€s what the Bruins have after Game 1.
Meanwhile, after that, the Sabres take on the Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators and defending Stanley Cup champion-Florida Panthers. Buffalo canâ€t afford to let those teams overpower them. And after those three games, Buffalo will square off against the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs (twice) and Columbus Blue Jackets in their first 10 games this season.
All of those teams – especially the particularly-desperate Red Wings and developing Canadiens and Blue Jackets – are going to give the Sabres a hard fight for the two standing points night-in and night-out.
Will Sabres Have Any Individual Award-Winners This Season?
Full disclosure: the Buffalo Sabres aren’t particularly interested in the NHL’s individual awards. But who’s kidding who — you always like to perform well, and that’s somthing the league de facto acknowledges by handing out end-of-season honours.
But thatâ€s only the half of it. Buffalo will start its second stretch of 10 games against the Bruins (again), then the high-octane Washington Capitals, followed by the Utah Mammoth (twice), St. Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, Avalanche (again), Red Wings (again), Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames. Buffalo canâ€t afford a soft effort against any of those teams.
It isnâ€t until they play the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 21 that you can say the Sabres have a ‘gimme†game. That means thereâ€s a full quarter of the season immediately ahead that legitimately could go one way or another for the Sabres. A solid effort to kick things off against the Rangers is something that would set an immediate tone for Buffalo, and to be honest, weâ€re not sure how this Sabres team will react when confronted with adversity.
That said, the slate is clean for Buffalo, as it is with all teams. But one way or another, Buffalo is going to send a message out of the gate. Either they impress people with their growth as a group, or they buckle under expectation and have to play catch-up the rest of the way this year.
Do The Math, And You’ll See Why Sabres Are A Playoff Longshot
Thereâ€s really no inbetween for the Sabres, is there? Either they make the playoffs and fire back at their cynics, or they fail to make the playoffs and the organization faces drastic on-and-off-ice consequences. Make it to the playoffs, and you get to keep your job; miss the playoffs, nobodyâ€s safe.
Itâ€s that simple. And the way Buffalo plays its next six weeks will go a long way toward determing their fate this season

The PGA Tour Fall season is in full swing, which means PGA Tour simulator season can’t be far off. Less than three months, to be exact, as we learned the full TGL schedule Monday afternoon.
It all kicks off on Sunday, Dec. 28, just two days before Tiger Woods’ 50th birthday, when Justin Thomas’ Atlanta Drive take on Xander Schauffele’s New York Golf Club in a 3 p.m. start. There is just one NFL game to compete with during that time slot, although it’s a big one: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Buffalo Bills.
But the simulator golf league will have one major element working in its favor: network television. TGL will be broadcast on ABC for the first time that day. That Atlanta vs. New York matchup is a repeat of last season’s championship match.
Just as intriguing as a Sunday start during Week 17 of the NFL season is the second matchup, which takes place the ensuing Friday (Jan. 2). Boston Common Golf will take on LAGC at 7 p.m. on ESPN2, testing the audience for primetime — simulator golf on the eve of a weekend.
Golf fans looking to watch Tiger Woods will have to wait until Jan. 13, as Woods’ Jupiter Links team will have a few weeks off before its season debut. The season will mostly be played on Monday and Tuesday nights but will finish in a flurry with matches on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, March 1, 2 and 3.
TGL playoffs will then take place March 17, 23 and 24, with the majority of matches once again centered around the PGA Tour’s Florida Swing. You can find the entire schedule, matchup times and broadcast info below.

The SEC has its share of important Week 7 games as well.
The Alabama Crimson Tide continue a brutal stretch of their schedule with a road clash against the Missouri Tigers.
Bama beat the Georgia Bulldogs on the road and then fended off the Vanderbilt Commodores in consecutive weeks. After Saturday’s trip to Columbia, Bama is back home against the Tennessee Volunteers.
Mizzou’s played far less of a brutal schedule, but it be able to catch Alabama at a difficult part of its own SEC slate.
Bama needs its defense to travel to avoid an upset and continues its push toward the top five.
The Crimson Tide limited Georgia to 21 points and held three other opponents to 14 points or fewer in their three other victories.
Containing the Beau Pribula-Ahmad Hardy duo will be tough because Bama averages 155.5 rush yards allowed per game.
Alabama does boast the nation’s fifth-best passing defense, so if it can slow down Hardy out of the backfield, it can limit Pribula’s passing potential.
Mizzou has some impressive defensive numbers of its own. The Tigers allow 203.8 yards per game, the second-fewest total in the country, but they’ve only played two power-four schools.
Saturday’s game will be the true test of Mizzou’s defense, but right now, Bama has the more proven unit.
Prediction: Alabama (-3.5)

Shane Van Gisbergen won the Bank of America Roval 400 on Sunday, but his victory wasn’t the story to come out of Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Joey Logano won a battle with Ross Chastain to become the final driver qualified for the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs round-of-8.
Logano made up the difference to Chastain on the final few laps. Chastain’s last gasp to stay alive in the postseason included a collision with Denny Hamlin and a backward finish.
The eight remaining playoff competitors now have three races in the round-of-8 to qualify for the championship race at Phoenix on November 2.
The updated points standings can be found here on NASCAR.com.
Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, William Byron, Chase Briscoe and Joey Logano will participate in the round-of-8.
Logano worked his way into the round-of-8 thanks to a strategy call in the final laps that allowed him to have fresh tires to pass cars and make up the points gap on Chastain.
Chastain pushed until the last turn of the race to try and keep his advantage, but he came up short. Chastain bumped Denny Hamlin on the final turn and had to finish backward in a last-ditch attempt to preserve his advantage.
Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney advanced to the round-of-8 in the last two weeks thanks to their respective race victories at New Hampshire and Kansas. The other six drivers moved on to the next round on points.
The round-of-8 participants have three races to try and clinch a shot at the championship. The top four drivers in the standings move on to Phoenix to have a shot at the title.
Las Vegas is the first stop on the round-of-8. Logano, Larson and Hamlin all have victories in the fall race at Las Vegas over the last four years. Logano won twice at Las Vegas in that span.
Talladega and Martinsville, where Hamlin won back in March, are the other two spots in the round-of-8.
Fifa are likely to schedule World Cup matches involving major European nations after midnight UK time next year in an effort to combat heat issues that affected the recent Club World Cup.
It had been anticipated World Cup kick-off times would mirror those at the Club World Cup, when the earliest games started at 17:00 BST, followed by 20:00, 23:00 and 02:00.
However, while 17:00 and 20:00 would suit European broadcasters, the former would be a midday kick-off on the United States east coast and the latter a midday kick-off on the west coast.
Paris St-Germain manager Luis Enrique complained about his team having to play in near 40 degree heat in their Club World Cup opener against Atletico Madrid in Los Angeles, which started at 12:00 local time.
Numerous coaches and players were affected by the heat and humidity, with Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez complaining of dizziness while playing.
Asked during his speech at the Leaders Conference in Twickenham for the major lessons learned from the Club World Cup, Victor Montagliani, who as president of the North and Central American Confederation Concacaf is in charge of the event, replied: “Kick-off times.”
With 48 teams at the World Cup, there are 11 consecutive days in the group phase that have four games, each played at different times, when 12:00 kick-offs were expected to be commonplace.
While five of the 16 stadiums being used in the United States, Canada and Mexico either have roofs as standard or a sliding roof that can offer shade, it is impractical for all the early kick-offs to be scheduled in them.
When pressed to expand on his comments, Montagliani, who is also a vice-president of world governing body Fifa, said: “Kick-off times are always an issue in our region because summers are hot in Canada and US.
“We’re having conversations daily with European media and other world media, in terms of what’s best and which are the stadiums that you can play at 3pm. That’s all in the mix now.
“Once the actual schedule comes out after the draw, we will do our best to ensure it’s taken into consideration. Will it be that every game will be absolutely perfect from a kick-off time, from a TV perspective? I don’t know.”
TNA Wrestling has finalized its schedule for the remainder of 2025, adding two more streaming specials to the calendar.
It was announced today that Turning Point 2025 — a TNA+ special — will take place at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida on Friday, November 14. Along with that, TNA will hold a live Impact episode and a night of TV tapings at Full Sail.
The final TNA+ special of the year will then be Final Resolution 2025 on Friday, December 5. El Paso County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas is hosting that show as well as a weekend of TV tapings.
Tickets for the Orlando and El Paso events will be available on pre-sale starting at 10 a.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, October 15. Tickets will then go on sale to the general public on October 17.
TNA is billing the El Paso dates as “Fan Appreciation Weekend” with the following perks:
- All fans who purchase tickets for all three shows in El Paso will receive an exclusive TNA Wrestling Fan Appreciation Weekend baseball hat. (The tickets must be purchased on the same transaction.)
