Perhaps if the Los Angeles Lakers had a more realistic chance of landing a transformational superstar like Giannis Antetokounmpo down the line they would be more hesitant to make short-term additions.
However, the Milwaukee Bucks star has been primarily connected to the New York Knicks, and Lakers insider Jovan Buha (54-minute mark, h/t Hoops Hype) reported Los Angeles might be “more open to a short-term move” as a result:Â
“Giannis Antetokounmpo has left the door cracked open, but we’ve since had the reporting that Giannis’ preferred destination was the Knicks, not the Lakers, and that it was really one team he was considering, and that was specifically the Knicks. I wonder if the Lakers recent shift toward being more of a kind of short-term or like win-now mode is maybe in part due to DonÄić’s success at Eurobasket, but I think more so maybe gaining some intel that some of the big fish that they were hoping to catch are not going to be available or as available as they thought.Â
“I think the Lakers got to be careful with how they position themselves for the future because if it’s tough to find a Knicks-Giannis trade. So if that for whatever reason just can’t happen and Milwaukee refuses to play ball with New York because they just they don’t want to trade him in conference, they don’t like what New York’s offering, then the Lakers can swoop in and potentially offer a competitive package. … You got to be careful with the cap space, but it does seem like the Lakers are a little bit more open to a short-term move.”
On Tuesday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the Knicks were “the only place Antetokounmpo wanted to play outside of Milwaukee,” which led to trade discussions between the two teams.
Yet those discussions “never got traction” as “those in Milwaukee believe New York did not make a strong enough offer” while the Knicks did not think the Bucks “were serious about entertaining an Antetokounmpo trade.”
From the Lakers’ perspective, a short-term move could help them capitalize on the upcoming season with DonÄić and LeBron James still paired together. The King is 40 years old and entering the final season of his deal, so the organization’s focus will likely eventually turn to building a winner around DonÄić.
Los Angeles’ front office will surely evaluate how things are unfolding in the loaded Western Conference ahead of the February trade deadline and re-assess accordingly, but a quick start could make it more likely to focus on win-now moves with one of the league’s best one-two punches in DonÄić and James leading the way.
That is especially true if the front office wouldn’t be sacrificing a realistic chance of landing a two-time MVP like Antetokounmpo with such a move.

TRENDING RUMORS
– Manchester United are plotting a £60 million bid to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, according to the Daily Star. With United boss Ruben Amorim keen to bolster his options in the middle of the park, the 21-year-old has emerged as a leading candidate. Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro are expected to leave Old Trafford in the long term, leaving a massive hole in midfield that a player of Wharton’s quality could soon fill. The Red Devils previously looked at Brighton and Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba, but a reported transfer valuation north of £100 million looks to have cooled their interest.
– Real Madrid have also been linked with Wharton but are now “ramping up” their interest in Chelsea and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández, says Football Insider. Any potential transfer will hinge upon Fernández’s desire to make the move, as an offer in excess of £100 million could bring Chelsea to the negotiation table. Los Blancos are also monitoring his teammate Moisés Caicedo, who has caught the eye this season in the Premier League.

Ronda Rousey hasn’t competed in UFC in years, but rumors continue to persist that she will make a return to the Octagon. When TMZ Sports recently spoke to Rousey, they asked if a comeback was in the works.
“I just had a baby, you know what I mean? Iâ€m just trying to get my bodily identity back and nothing more. Iâ€m just enjoying being in the gym again and feeling a lot better and healthier.”
Rousey gave birth to her and Travis Browneâ€s second daughter in July 2024, naming her Likoâ€ula P?â€?omahinakaipiha Browne. For Rousey, her current focus is on reconnecting with herself post-pregnancy.
“Have you ever had kids? Well, it just feels really good to get that freedom of movement back, you know, and just train for the love of it again. I feel like thatâ€s something that got lost before. So yeah, Iâ€m just really enjoying myself.“
Rousey parted ways with the UFC in 2016 and joined WWE two years later. The former Womenâ€s Champion left WWE in 2023 and has been openly critical of the company and Vince McMahon ever since. Rousey has ruled out a WWE return and has said she believes WWE will erase her impact in pro wrestling.
For the Olympic Bronze medalist, life now revolves around family and self-discovery. While fans may hope to see her return to either the cage or the squared circle, the “Baddest Woman on the Planet†is focused on being a mom.

Other potential trade targets include Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson, Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, New York Jets running back Breece Hall, Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Bradley Chubb and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen, according to Schefter.

During The Hurt Syndicate’s AEW World Tag Team Championship reign, reports emerged that claimed that MVP specifically took issue with “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight, and opposed THS losing the titles to the tag team. However, MVP recently sat down with “TMZ Sports,” where he addressed the aforementioned report as well as claims that the AEW locker room calls Tony Khan ‘the Snowman’ backstage.
“Not us? I don’t know where that came from, I don’t know who put that out there; I don’t,” he exclaimed, shooting down the claims that the locker room has been echoing Ariel Helwani’s shot against Khan in 2023. “That’s not anything that I’ve ever called him, or I haven’t heard that…Then again, you gotta remember you know: these people that run these, you know, what traditionally called ‘dirt sheets?’ It’s all clickbait.”
MVP further claimed that controversy sells, and therefore, reports are always negatively slanted. “It’s just gossip passed off as legitimate journalism, and it’s laughable, because it’s always from ‘a source,'” he claimed, adding that he has never denied saying things he’s actually said. “I think it’s a real b**ch move to go and leak rumors about people you might like or dislike to the dirt sheets; that’s lame.” However, MVP claims he understands why the dirt sheets exist as fans all simply want to peek behind the curtain, but still asserts it’s done more damage to the industry than anything else. “I feel that most of these dirt sheet people are leeches on pro wrestling, because what do they contribute to the business overall? They make a living off of it – like parasites – but what do they contribute to the game?”
‘If there’s some f**kery going on, I don’t know about it!’

When it came to the reports of the heat between him and Jetspeed, MVP not only shut the rumors down but also gave a glowing account of his experience backstage at AEW. “My experience in the AEW locker room? I – you know – there was some erroneous reporting some time ago that I had heat with somebody that I had absolutely no issue with,” the veteran claimed, adding that everybody in the locker room today seems to be friendly with one another. “If there’s some f**kery going on, I don’t know about it! You know, everybody seems to be awesome, I – you know – I don’t have anybody giving me side-eyes.”
MVP then expressed that the younger guys in the locker room seem respectful to him and claimed that he tries to return the favor whenever he gets the chance to. “If somebody doesn’t walk up and shake my hand and speak to me, I’m not mad at them for it,” he added, seemingly referencing the history of veterans being upset with rookies not greeting locker room leaders in the past. “It’s an etiquette faux pas, you know, but a lot of the time – I know that the business is changing – and certain things that were once a standard of how things are, aren’t necessarily that way anymore.”

Ronda Rousey played coy this week when asked about a potential return to the UFC Octagon in the future.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Rousey was asked if she was training for a UFC comeback, prompting her to respond by saying, “I just had a baby. I’m just trying to get my bodily identity back, and I’m just enjoying being in the gym again. I just feel a lot better and a lot healthier.”
Rousey added: “It just feels really good to get that freedom of movement back and just getting back to training for the love of it. And I feel like that’s something I lost before.”
The line of questioning was spurred by Rousey posting videos of herself working out in the cage and hitting the mitts on Instagram this month.
Rousey, 38, was once heralded as the best women’s MMA fighter in the world, but she has not competed in a fight since 2016.
The inaugural UFC women’s bantamweight champion began her pro MMA career a perfect 12-0 with nine submissions and three knockouts before a shocking loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in 2015.
Just over one year later, Rousey stepped back inside the Octagon and got knocked out by Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, marking her final fight.
After that, Rousey transitioned into the world of pro wrestling, enjoying two stints in WWE and becoming a three-time women’s champion, one-time tag team champion, one-time Royal Rumble winner and one-time WrestleMania main eventer in the company.
In January, Rousey gave birth to her second daughter with husband Travis Browne, and her response to questions about fighting again primarily focused on her desire to get in shape following her pregnancy.
UFC President Dana White has usually shot down rumors of a Rousey return to MMA quickly over the years, but his responses to those questions have been more diplomatic recently.
This week, White told reporters of Rousey: “Her and I are still very close and we talk. I would say we probably talk once every three months or something like that. She was in Vegas recently, and she came by the offices, but I don’t know what her plans are. I think she’s just training again.”
White went on to say, “She’s just had another baby, and she’s in great shape right now. She’s frigging ripped like she used to be. So, I don’t know.”
That suggests the chances of Rousey returning to MMA are higher now than they once were, but neither she nor White are making any definitive statements.
Ultimately, the ball is likely in Rousey’s court since UFC would undoubtedly welcome her back with open arms given that she is one of the biggest draws in company history.

New York Giants rookie Cam Skattebo kept his mind clear before Thursday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles by potentially playing NBA 2K26.
Amid rumors that he was playing online earlier in the day, Skattebo addressed the situation with a joke comment on X:
Even though Skattebo didn’t exactly confirm that the online player with his name and an avatar that bears some striking similarities to him, it would add to the first-year running back’s budding legend.
If we assume Skattebo was playing 2K, there’s no indication what team he was using nor if he won the online matchup.
It also makes for a great story that Skattebo was just chilling in his house or apartment in the morning, ventured over to MetLife Stadium in the afternoon and had the best game of his young career in the evening.
Skattebo ran for 98 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries in the Giants’ shocking 34-17 upset win over the Eagles. He is up to ninth in the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 493 through six games.
The vibes around Skattebo couldn’t be higher right now. He has injected life into the Giants since his role started to increase in Week 3. The 23-year-old has at least 90 yards from scrimmage in each of the past four games.
Based on how Skattebo played against the Eagles, Giants fans should encourage him to keep pregaming with NBA 2K26since it seemed to give him more luck. He might it need in Week 7 since the Giants have a tough matchup with the Denver Broncos defense at Empower Field.

Elliotte Friedman reported in his 32 Thoughts column, “Not sure we’re going to see much trade action too early, but Philadelphia is definitely checking what’s out there on defence.”
Nothing about the team’s philosophy to this point suggests they are going to hand over young prospects for an older, veteran player. The team explored the possibility of adding Bowen Bynam during the off-season in a trade with Buffalo, but that did not come to fruition.
Cam York and Jamie Drysdale remain players the team wants to build around and focus on, but it badly needs to enhance the roster around them. Unfortunately, that will be easier said than done and will likely result in more of the same for Philly: trading for a young player with upside.
There will be options available, such as Thomas Harley in Dallas, who is on an expiring deal; however, any deal for him will likely wait until later in the season. Harley had a 50-point season in 2024-25 and led all Stars defensemen in goals with 16. He would be an interesting fit in Philadelphia and at 24 years old, a potential high-potential contributor for the next decade.
The Flyers have put themselves in a position where fixing their biggest weakness will likely have to wait. Considering how loaded the Eastern Conference is, that could put them in an unenviable position early on.

On the heels of a separate report that Xavier Woods had inked a new contractwith WWE, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that his New Day teammate, Kofi Kingston, has also signed on the dotted line to remain with the company.
“Fightful Select is told that Kofi Kingston re-signed with WWE at some point earlier this year. WWE sources indicated that they were of the belief of that the deal would be a five-year contract, taking him into 2030, when he’ll be nearly 49,” Sapp wrote.
Kingston is a former WWE champion and has been a staple of the company’s programming since his arrival on the main roster in 2008. He has accomplished everything there is to in the promotion, but remains a visible and valuable asset on Monday Night Raw.
Kingston can be a beloved babyface or as we have witnessed over the last year, a despised heel, making him an adaptable performers who can still work with stars of all styles and backgrounds.
He is over with fans and a veteran of every major moment, victory, defeat, and match that can take place on any given WWE show and is a major part of the locker room, making him invaluable to the company beyond his ability in the ring.
For that reason, he more than earned one last, long-term contract and a chance to continue his WWE career rather than starting over somewhere else.

As a new season dawns, Nazem Kadri remains the topic of trade speculation. The 35-year-old Calgary Flames center has frequently surfaced in the rumor mill since the summer of 2024, and recently earned a spot on our August NHL Trade Block Big Board.
Kadri has repeatedly denied any intention of asking the retooling Flames for a trade. He’s signed through 2028-29 with an average annual value of $7 million. He also has a full no-movement clause for this season, which becomes a 13-team no-trade list on July 1 for the remainder of his contract.
Nevertheless, speculation persists that Kadri could become a trade candidate. During an Oct. 3 interview with the Flames Nation Barn Burner podcast, TSN’s Darren Dreger said it felt like a long shot that Kadri could be traded this season, but didn’t rule out the possibility of a move at the March trade deadline.
Dreger believes several teams could benefit from Kadri’s aggressive two-way skills, such as the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, and his former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. If Kadri became available, Dreger believes the Flames would seek a high asking price.
Dreger suggested Kadri could become available at the March trade deadline if the Flames were out of playoff contention. Otherwise, he doesn’t see him moving. If the Flames were to peddle him, they might be better off waiting until July 1, when his full no-movement clause ends.
