WWE Cancels AAA Mazatlán Event Featuring Alberto Del Rio

Fans hoping to see Alberto Del Rio return to the WWE spotlight will have to wait a little longer. WWE and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide have officially canceled their upcoming joint event in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, which was scheduled for November 15, 2025. The event was set to feature Del Rio—formerly WWEâ€s self-proclaimed “Mexicoâ€s Greatest Exportâ€â€”as one of its headliners.

In a joint announcement issued on October 15, officials from WWE, AAA, and Promotora Mr. Fuego cited escalating security concerns in the region as the reason behind the cancellation. The U.S. Department of State currently lists Sinaloa under a Level 4 “Do Not Travel†advisory due to widespread violence and instability.

“We hereby inform you that the event scheduled for November 15 in Mazatlán, Sinaloa has been canceled by joint decision of the leadership of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide v WWE, due to security concerns.â€

“We deeply appreciate your support, passion, and understanding. We will return soon with a new card, hoping that peace and tranquility return to Sinaloa.â€

Ticket refunds will begin on October 20 through official channels, and fans are being assured that once the region is stable, the show will be rescheduled.

The event had drawn additional attention because of Del Rioâ€s involvement. After his storyline exile from AAA and limited appearances on the indie scene, many fans had begun calling for WWE to bring him back full-time. WWE had reportedly inherited Del Rioâ€s AAA obligations following its deeper involvement in Latin American promotions.

A petition circulated online, urging WWE to reintroduce Del Rio to television—citing his legacy, fan base, and what many still consider unfinished business. But for now, his return to the global spotlight remains in limbo.

Despite the disappointment, WWE and AAA emphasized that the safety of performers, staff, and fans was the priority—and made it clear that they plan to return to Mexico when conditions allow.

Rio Ferdinand backs Steven Gerrard for Rangers return

Rio Ferdinand has tipped his former England teammate Steven Gerrard to return to Rangers for a second spell as manager.

Gerrard left Ibrox for Aston Villa in 2021 after delivering the Scottish Premiership title in 2020-21.

The former Liverpool captain spent 11 months with Villa before a spell at Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq.

Rangers are in the market for a new manager after Russell Martin was sacked on Sunday after just 123 days in charge.

Gerrard has been out of work since leaving Al-Ettifaq in January, and speaking on the ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents’ podcast, he revealed he had “a bit of unfinished business” in management.

The interview was conducted before Martin’s dismissal, but Ferdinand believes Gerrard would be open to re-joining the Glasgow club, four years on from his departure.

“I have to say when I interviewed him, he left me in no uncertain terms that he wants to be a manager and he’s got full confidence in doing that,” Ferdinand told talkSPORT.

“He’s itching to get back in now. He never said this to me, but I personally think just the energy that I felt in that room, that if Rangers came calling he’d go or at least have that conversation.

“What I felt, if I was an owner of a football club and Steven Gerrard was sat in front of me and I felt that energy in the room when I was interviewing him, he’s getting the job.

“Forget what’s gone on before, but also his time before at Rangers, he did great there. I’ve never had so many Rangers fans flood the comments of my social media or the podcast.

“They’re all desperate for him to go up and at least have the conversation, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Steven Gerrard is managing again very soon and Rangers would be probably one of my big bets.”

Alberto Del Rio Reveals Why Vince McMahon Considered Him a Favorite

Alberto Del Rio was part of the WWE family for several years before his departure back in 2016. He worked closely with Vince McMahon during his time in WWE and has now revealed why McMahon considered him a favorite.

While speaking to Eduardo Bates, Alberto Del Rio revealed his thoughts about working with Vince McMahon, saying that Vince was the creative force behind the entire golden era of WWE.

Del Rio explained that most people donâ€t really understand how much Vince shaped the wrestling world, calling him the mastermind of the industry. Alberto said that he was one of Vinceâ€s favorites because of his hard work, professionalism, and ability to connect with the audience.

Mexicoâ€s Greatest Export added that he could make fans believe in everything happening in the ring and feel the emotion exactly as he wanted them to.

“Vince created all the characters—the entire golden era of WWE exists because of him. What most people donâ€t know—because they really donâ€t know him—is that heâ€s the mastermind behind the industry. Everything we have in wrestling today exists thanks to him. I was always one of his favorites because of my dedication, professionalism, and effectiveness—because Alberto Del Rio can do whatever he wants with the crowd. He makes them believe, makes them feel that whatâ€s happening in the ring is real, exactly as he intends it to be.â€

Itâ€s clear that Del Rio and Vince McMahon had a good relationship, which is why he even defends McMahon while his trafficking lawsuit continues. Regardless, many fans might not agree with what Del Rio had to say and thatâ€s unlikely to change anytime soon.
