Mid-Atlantic: West Virginia & Joy Naukot
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania — West Virginiaâ€s Joy Naukot, who finished 17th at NCAAs last year and then 3rd in the 10,000 in June, pulled away from the field in the second mile and scored a dominant win, clocking 19:11.8. She finished more than 10 seconds clear of teammate Mercy Kinyanjui (19:22.5), a transfer from Toledo. The 7th-ranked Mountaineers also had the 6th-place finisher (Alexis Lamb, 19:44.3) and held off No. 12 Georgetown, 56–62, to defend their title. West Viriginia built a sizable lead early with 4 runners in the top 6. The Hoyas steadily picked up spots and moved in front by 1-point at the 3M mark (57-58), before losing critical placements on the run-in. Big East champ Melissa Riggins (19:31.7) took 3rd overall to pace Georgetown.
Led by 4th-place finisher Florence Caron (19:35.7), No. 10 Penn State (76) rallied late to grab 3rd, just ahead of No. 19 Villanova (78).

Southeast: NC State & Salma Elbadra (South Carolina)
Charlottesville, Virginia — No. 2 NC State ran without track 10,000 runner-up Grace Hartman (who faded to 4th at the ACC after leading most of the way) and frosh star Sadie Englehardt but were nonetheless comfortable winners (for the ninth time in a row) with 55 points, well ahead of No. 20 South Carolina. The Gamecocks†Salma Elbadra, a finalist in the track 1500 in June, was the individual winner in 19:03.1, while Hannah Gapes (19:08.3) led the Wolfpack with a 2nd and teammate Angelina Napoleon (19:15.0), the ACC champion, was 6th.
North Carolinaâ€s Vera Sjöberg (19:12.8), a transfer from Boston University and the runner-up in the NCAA Outdoor 5000 in the spring, took 3rd and led the No. 13 Tar Heels (3rd, 108 points). No. 16 Virginia (138) was a distant 4th, followed by Wake Forest (147) and No. 29 Duke (194). Individually, Clemsonâ€s Silvia Jelego (19:13.4) took 4th and Libertyâ€s Allie Zealand (19:14.3) was 5th.

South: Florida & Doris Lemngole (Alabama)
Huntsville, Alabama — Florida State frosh Rylee Blade took an early lead, separating from a pack that included defending NCAA champion Doris Lemngole of Alabama. Lemngole and teammate Caren Kiplagat caught Blade at halfway. By 4K, Lemngole had about a 5-second lead over Kiplagat, while Cynthia Jemutai had moved into 3rd. Lemngole (18:43.8) won comfortably, leading Kiplagat (18:49.7) and Jemutai (19:10.4) to a 1-2-3 finish for the Crimson Tide.
Hilda Olemomoi, Judy Chepkoech and Tia Wilson of No. 3 Florida ran together over the second half and crossed in 4-5-6. The Gators†next two scorers placed 14th and 21st to wrap up the team title with 52 points. Unranked Tennessee — which had finished a disappointing 7th at the SEC — had all 7 runners finish before No. 15 Alabamaâ€s 4th and 5th (who were 49th and 50th overall), to grab the second automatic bid with 101. Alabama and Mississippi State both scored 125, with the Tide getting the tiebreaker (3–2 in head-to-head matchups of their top 5 runners) for 3rd, followed by Vanderbilt (152) and Florida State (158).

Great Lakes: Notre Dame & Amaya Aramini
Evansville, Indiana — Amaya Aramini closed fastest over the final kilometer to take the individual win (19:38.0) and pace No. 5 Notre Dame to a comfortable team title. The Irish had 5 runners in the top 9 — including runner-up Mary Bonner Dalton (19:44.0), Siona Chisholm (5th, 20:01.1), Sophie Novak (7th) and Gretchen Farley (9th) — and tallied a mere 22 points. (Akronâ€s Mercy Jebitok finished 6th, but the Zips didnâ€t field a complete squad and werenâ€t counted in the team scoring.)
No. 25 Wisconsin took 2nd with 95 points, led by 10th-placer Leanne Willemse (20:18.3). Toledo, with Karina James (20:22.9) in 13th, scored 104 for 3rd, just ahead of No. 23 Michigan State. The Spartanâ€s Rachel Forsyth (19:45.2) took 3rd individually. Midwest: Oklahoma State & Isca Chelangat
Stillwater, Oklahoma — The start times were moved up 90 minutes due to expected high temperatures, but it didnâ€t hamper Oklahoma State frosh Isca Chelangat, who opened up an early lead. North Dakotaâ€s Jadyn Keeler ran 2nd before taking the lead at 3K. Chelangat stayed on her heels and just after 4K the pair were running side by side. Chelangat surged ahead in the final kilometer, as the chase pack was closing in. Oklahoma Stateâ€s Maureen Rutoh passed Keeler with about 300m to go, but couldnâ€t quite catch Chelangat, who won by 2 seconds in 19:48.4. Iowa Stateâ€s Betty Kipkore (19:53.2) outsprinted Keeler (19:53.7) down the final stretch for 3rd.
With 4 in the top 11, No. 9 Oklahoma State won the team title comfortably over No. 11 Northwestern, 55–86. No. 6 Iowa State, hampered by high finishes for their fourth and fifth runners (41st and 50th) was a distant 3rd with 108. The Cyclones will have to rely on an at-large bid to make it through to Nationals.

South Central: Texas A&M & Elizabeth Khatevi (A&M–Corpus Christi)
Fayetteville, Arkansas — As with the Midwest Region, an unseasonably warm forecast forced the start time here to be moved up by 90 minutes. Arkansas†Sydney Vaught (née Thorvaldson) didnâ€t seem to mind the heat, running solo for most of the race and opening up about a 10-second lead at halfway. Texas A&M–Corpus Christi soph Elizabeth Khatevi, down by 5.5 seconds at 4.5K, made a late charge to grab the win in 19:33.6. Vaught (19:42.4) held on for the runner-up spot, followed by Tulaneâ€s Blezzin Kimutai (19:53.0).
Texas A&Mâ€s Joyce Kemboi took 4th to spark the unranked Aggies†team title with 71 points, ahead of No. 26 LSU (86), Tulane (108) and Arkansas (127). LSU led at the first two check points, but by 4.5K Texas A&M had taken a 6-point lead. Over the final 1500 the Aggies†third, fourth and fifth runners picked up 11 places to pad the win. LSU was led by Yuya Sawada (19:56.7), who finished 5th.

Mountain: New Mexico & Jane Hedengren (BYU)
Salt Lake City, Utah — Jane Hedengrenâ€s phenomenal frosh campaign just keeps getting better. The BYU star won the title by finishing more than 42 seconds clear of Pamela Kosgei, last yearâ€s NCAA cross country runner-up and the outdoor champion in the 5000 and 10,000. Hedengren made her move in the third kilometer, when she opened up nearly 12 seconds on Kosgei. The lead continued to grow from there and she crossed the line in 19:06.6. Kosgei (19:48.7) followed ahead of BYUâ€s Riley Chamberlain (19:52.8), Northern Arizonaâ€s Hayley Burns (20:01.5) and New Mexicoâ€s Judy Rono (20:11.1).
The only thing spoiling Hedengrenâ€s day was the team score. No. 8 New Mexico pulled the upset for the title, edging top-ranked BYU, 45–47. In the fight for at-large spots in one of the deepest regions in the country, No. 21 Northern Arizona (76) took 3rd, ahead of No. 17 Colorado (106) and No. 22 Utah (120).

Sacramento, California — After looking nearly invincible at the Big 10 meet two weeks earlier, No. 4 Oregon was upset by No. 14 Stanford (only 4th at the ACC). Led by Amy Bunnageâ€s 4th-place finish, the Cardinal scored a 66–75 win. Unranked Boise State (114), No. 24 Washington State (120) and No. 18 Washington (124) rounded out the top 5.
Washington Stateâ€s Rosemary Longisa separated from Oregonâ€s Diana Cherotich in the third mile and took the win in 19:08.3. Cherotich (19:12.6) finished just ahead of teammate Åžilan Ayyıldız (19:16.8). Bunnage, in her first race since the NCAA Indoor last March, had been the early leader but finished 4th (19:19.4), one spot ahead of teammate Sophia Kennedy (19:23.9). Oregon was racing without Big 10 runner-up Juliet Cherubet. While the Ducks†next two finishers — Anika Thompson (9th) and Mia Barnett (12th) — placed well, their fifth runner, Ali Ince, was more than 50 seconds back in 49th. Stanford, meanwhile, had its remaining scorers in 10th (Mena Scartchard), 18th (Riley Stewart) and 29th (Julia Flynn).

Northeast: Syracuse & Fredrick Kipkosgei (Hofstra)
Hopkinton, New Hampshire — In sunny but cool (40s) conditions at the Hopkinton Fairground, No. 5 Syracuse advanced to Nationals by putting 5 runners across in the first 9. That 32-point tally was more than enough to top the 95 put up by unranked Iona in slipping past No. 22 Harvard (105 points) for the second team spot.
Individually, the race was dominated by Hofstraâ€s new Kenyan frosh, Fredrick Kipkosgei, who won in 29:12.7. He led the entire way, with a margin of more than 12 seconds at 6K before Peter Walsdorf of Syracuse (29:17.5) narrowed the gap at the finish. Harvardâ€s Sam Burgess ran 3rd in 29:18.6, ahead of Ionaâ€s Duncan Robinson (29:19.9) and Tam Gavenas of Harvard (29:21.2). The rest of Syracuseâ€s pack came through in a rush, with Benne Anderson, Matthew Neill, Assaf Harari and Sam Lawler taking the next 4 spots.

Mid-Atlantic: Princeton & Birhanu Harriman (Georgetown)
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania — With Princeton the only nationally-ranked team on the Goodman Course, the No. 18 Tigers lived up to their billing on a day when temps hit the high-40s. The Tigers overcame an early Georgetown lead to prevail 45–63. Defending champion Villanova scored 84 for 3rd, followed by Penn State (91) and Navy (100).
Only 17th last year, Georgetown junior Birhanu Harriman emerged from a tight pack in the last loop to battle with Princetonâ€s Myles Hogan, sprinting to the win 29:20.6 to 29:21.2. It was Hoganâ€s first harrier race of the season. Navy senior Justin Mumford, who led at 5K in 14:47.6, finished 3rd in 29:28.9, ahead of Princetonâ€s next two, Jacob Nenow (29:35.8) and Jackson Shorten (29:36.9). Southeast: Wake Forest & Rocky Hansen
Charlottesville, Virginia — In perfect conditions at Panorama Farms, Wake Forest, ranked No. 12 nationally, and No. 30 Eastern Kentucky both shocked by getting ahead of No. 4 Virginia, the defending champion on its home course. Eastern Kentucky led by 19 points at 6K, but at the finish it was Wake Forest scoring 55 to beat the Colonels†68. Virginia finished with 95 points. Early leader Furman ended up in 7th.
Virginiaâ€s Gary Martin led past 5K in 15:01.6 with Wake Forestâ€s Rocky Hansen at his side. Joining them was Eastern Kentuckyâ€s Taha Er Raouy and Louisville frosh Elsingi Kipruto. Hansen, fighting to break away, had the most trouble with Kipruto, who was still on his shoulder with a kilo to go. Hansen had the better kick, though, and finished more than 60m ahead in 29:10.4 to Kiprutoâ€s 29:19.6. Er Raouy placed 3rd in 29:27.5, with Virginia Techâ€s â€24 regional winner, George Couttie (29:36.2) ahead of Martinâ€s 29:37.5.

South: Alabama & Kelvin Cheruiyot (Florida)
Huntsville, Alabama — Everyone figured that No. 9-ranked Alabama would carry away the win, and the Crimson Tide did, packing 4 into the top 10. That yielded a score of 37. The surprise came in 2nd, when unranked Ole Miss, only picked for 5th, nipped No. 19 Georgia, 75–77 to grab the other auto-qualifying spot.
The battle on the John Hunt XC Course started with Alabamaâ€s Dismus Lokira, the defending champion, leading a large, tight pack in perfect, sunny conditions. By 6K only 10 remained. Eventually Floridaâ€s Pre-Nats winner Kelvin Cheruiyot took over with a strong surge that Lokira could not answer. He finished in 29:09.1, with Lokira at 29:11.9 and Auburnâ€s Nickson Chebii grabbing 3rd in 29:13.5. Dennis Kipruto in 4th gave Alabama another low stick, and Mississippi got a huge boost from Kidus Misgina in 5th and Toby Gillen in 6th.

Great Lakes: Notre Dame & Nickson Kogei (Cincinnati)
Evansville, Indiana — What was expected to be a dogfight among 5 nationally-ranked teams turned out to be just that, with No. 16 Notre Dame, the defending champions, rising to the top on the strength of a 60-point performance. That left No. 14 Butler to get the other auto qualifier with 75 points, while No. 15 Wisconsin (99 points), No. 13 Michigan State (103) and No. 26 Michigan (135) will be crossing their fingers for at-large bids.
Cincinnatiâ€s Nickson Kogei stayed at the front throughout, passing 5K in 14:55.3. The accompanying pack stayed with him until the final kilometer but fell apart when Kogei launched into a kick that only Jesse Hamlin of Butler and Notre Dameâ€s Ethan Coleman could come close to. Kogei stayed ahead with his 29:42.8, as Hamlin (29:43.2) and Coleman (29:45.2) fell short. Last yearâ€s winner, William Zegarski of Butler, finished 4th in 29:50.7.

Midwest: Oklahoma State & Denis Kipngetich
Stillwater, Oklahoma — Under sunny skies with temperatures in the high 60s, the team race on the Oklahoma State course went to the hosts, as expected. The No. 1 Cowboys, however, had to fight to get ahead of No. 2 Iowa State by 3 points, 38–41. No. 21 Oklahoma topped No. 20 Tulsa for 3rd, 109-117.
In a race that was moved up 90 minutes to beat the expected heat, Iowa Stateâ€s went out aggressively, with Robin Kwemoi Bera, Joash Ruto and Sanele Masondo passing through halfway in 14:57.7 at the front of a large pack. Oklahoma State responded, and by 8K (23:42.8), Denis Kipngetich had a lead of a couple strides over Bera and Ruto. He held that to the line, winning in 23:42.8, with Bera (23:43.8) topping his teammate. It wasnâ€t till 8th place (Ronald Ngetich of Oklahoma) that another team got a finisher across.

South Central: Tulane & Timothy Chesondin (Arkansas)
Fayetteville, Arkansas — In another race moved up 90 minutes because of anticipated heat, competitors at Agri Park faced temps in the high 60s on a breezy day. As expected, No. 23 Tulane and No. 25 Arkansas romped to the two auto qualifying spots. The Green Wave squad prevailed 44-46 after the Razorbacks had led at every split. Texas A&M placed 3rd with 83 points, Stephen F. Austin 4th at 112.
Arkansas junior Timothy Chesondin, last yearâ€s runner-up, didnâ€t move to the lead until 7K, when he ran side-by-side with Tulaneâ€s Bernard Cheruiyot. Only in the last kilo did he pull away convincingly, taking the win in 28:44.4, with Cheruiyot at 28:51.3 and Tulane frosh Silas Kiptanui next in 29:11.2. Three Razorbacks — James Sankei, Brian Masai and Ben Sheaerer — crossed next but that wasnâ€t enough for Arkansas to defend its title. TCUâ€s Johnson Lagat finished in 7th.

Mountain: New Mexico & Habtom Samuel
Salt Lake City, Utah — Four top 10 teams in the pack meant that favored New Mexico had to work for the win. The No. 3 Lobos put 3 in the top 4, led by Habtom Samuel, runner-up last year both here and at Nationals. That produced 37 points, well ahead of the 67 scored by defending national champion BYU, currently ranked No. 10. West: Oregon & Solomon Kipchoge (Washington State)
Sacramento, California — As expected, No. 7 Oregon took the win at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, scoring a 40-point win on a day with perfect weather. The surprise came in 2nd, when No. 17 Cal Baptist upended defending champion Washington State (No. 11) by just 3 points, 95–98. Boise State followed in 4th at 117, with Portland (150), Stanford (153) and Washington (154) finishing in a knot.
Solomon Kipchoge, Washington Stateâ€s transfer from Texas Tech, hammered the last 2 miles of the course, resulting in negative splits of 14:53.0/14:01.4. That 28:54.4 left teammate and defending champion Evans Kurui (29:23.1) nearly 200m back. Stanfordâ€s Leo Young ran 3rd (29:25.3), with Boise State junior Meshack Kuyo next at 29:25.6. Portlandâ€s Jonas Price was 5th, ahead of Oregonâ€s key scorers: Abdel Laadjel (6th), Simeon Birnbaum (7th), Aiden Smith (8th) and Michael Mireles (11th).
