Real Madrid already boast one of the most fearsome attacks in world football – but the 15-time European champions are keen to further bolster their frontline with another big name.

Superstar forwards Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior have plundered a combined 19 goals for the Spanish giants in the opening 10 matches of the season, helping the LaLiga club to nine wins.

But head coach Xabi Alonso is still eyeing further additions and is now plotting a move for one of the top young players on the planet.

Madrid have been heavily reliant on Mbappe and Vinicius this season, with Turkish youngster Arda Guler their next highest scorer despite finding the net only three times.

And the club appear open to letting at least one of their supporting cast of forwards depart to help finance another new recruit, with West Ham reportedly in talks over a loan move for one of the Los Blancos stars.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real have stepped up interest in PSG winger Desire Doue, who they believe can form a potent forward line with Mbappe and Vinicius.

The 20-year-old enjoyed an outstanding breakthrough season last term following his arrival from Rennes, scoring 16 goals in 59 games – including two in the French team’s 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

The report states that Madrid have shown ‘concrete interest’ in the France international, ranked at no.5 in FourFourTwo’s list of the best right wingers in the world right now, with the club attracted by his ability to play on both wings or as a false nine.

Doue’s estimated value is said to be close to €150m and Madrid are reportedly considering letting attackers Brahim Diaz and Rodrygo leave to free up some of their budget, but significant hurdles remain.

The report claims PSG are unwilling to sell the youngster at this time, with Doue central to a project that finally delivered a long-awaited Champions League title last term.

In FourFourTwo’s view, it would be a serious coup if Madrid could lure Doue away from PSG – and act as a statement of intent that they remain the heavyweight force in European football.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique could only admire the spectacle on display Wednesday night at the Olympic Stadium.

What he saw was his PSG side rally for victory against his former team Barcelona to secure a 2-1 win and a perfect record in the Champions League after two matches of the league phase.

Gonçalo Ramos capped the comeback in second-half stoppage time in front of a stunned home crowd, who saw their team lose its first match of the season and for the third time in a row at home to PSG following defeats in the 2021 and 2024 Champions League knockout rounds.

“We’ve seen an excellent game,” Luis Enrique said. “When you see two teams who don’t kick each other, who go out to play and to do damage with the ball, you get a really good spectacle. [Barcelona] were better until their goal. We recovered well. We were better in the second half.

“We played really well. It was difficult at first. Barcelona have a lot of quality. We made mistakes in the first 20 minutes. We were better after the break, we deserved it. It’s a big win. It’s always hard playing against Barça. It’s an important win for confidence. Last year, we struggled in the league phase.”

The game also highlighted the stellar play of PSG outside backs Achraf Hakimi, who set up Ramos for the winning goal, and Nuno Mendes, who assisted on PSG’s opening goal and largely shut down Barça star Lamine Yamal in the second half.

Yamal got off to a promising start Wednesday, awing the crowd with a great run just minutes into the match at Montjuic stadium. But he couldn’t do much more after that, with the 23-year-old Mendes containing him most of the time.

“I’m very pleased to see the younger players thriving in this match; learning, playing well, impressing our fans,” Luis Enrique said after the match. “We consistently play rivals of a really high level. The most important thing for me is our DNA, our attitude — as a squad and as a club — and that’s what we saw today.”

The 18-year-old Yamal made his first start for Barcelona since August because of an injury sustained while playing with Spain’s national team during the international break in September. He came off the bench for the Catalan club in its 2-1 win against Real Sociedad in LaLiga on Sunday.

PSG is the the first team to win three straight road games against Barcelona in major European competitions, while Hansi Flick’s side was looking to win a sixth consecutive match across all competitions.

Luis Enrique did not want to read too much into the result with just two rounds of the Champions League played thus far, and a good chance his team will see Barcelona at some point down the line as the tournament progresses.

“This is just one result so in no case [does it prove anything],” Luis Enrique said. “Barça are among the candidates to win the Champions League. They play really well. They are a top level side. This is just the start of the competition. There are six games left; we will see what happens.

“But I have no doubts because I like how they play. There are not many teams with a clear identity like theirs. Barça are clearly among the favourites with us. But it’s just getting started. Let’s see how everyone arrives to the knockout rounds.”

BARCELONA, Spain — As early statements in the UEFA Champions League go, Paris Saint-Germain delivered a pretty big one by beating Barcelona 2-1 on Wednesday — especially considering they were without their stellar front three of Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia because of injury.

The stage was set for Lamine Yamal, who finished second to Dembélé in the Ballon d’Or last week, to make it all about him at the Olympic Stadium. He certainly had his moments, and his battle with left back Nuno Mendes was a constant source of fascination. But again, it was the team ethos of Luis Enrique’s PSG that shone through in the end — just as it did when they won the competition last season.

Ferran Torres gave Barça the lead in an enthralling first half, but Senny Mayulu drew PSG level before halftime, and the French side was far superior after the break. Barça manager Hansi Flick surprisingly paired Eric García and Pau Cubarsí at center back, and at times they were pulled around by PSG’s makeshift attack of Mayulu, Bradley Barcola and 17-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye. Given the energy PSG showed late, there was more resignation than surprise from the home fans when Gonçalo Ramos buried a 90th-minute winner.

The stadium emptied pretty quickly after that, except for the 3,000 traveling French fans, who celebrated long after the final whistle as their players partied in front of them. Given the circumstances and the quality of opposition, this was a win that will breed confidence in the European champions — if that is needed — in the absence of not just Dembélé, Doué and Kvaratskhelia, but also center back Marquinhos.

Barça were also missing players because of injury. Goalkeeper Joan García, Raphinha, Gavi and Fermín López were the biggest absentees. But this still felt like an opportunity for them to make their own statement, at home, against the defending champions. Midfielder Pedri had said before the fixture he believes Barça, beaten in the semifinals last year, are the best team in Europe. A victory here might not have proved that, but it would have been another step forward for the Flick project. Instead, it was PSG’s night, and you would forgive them feeling an air of invincibility given how well they played in the second half.

“We’ve seen an excellent game,” Luis Enrique said. “When you see two teams who don’t kick each other, who go out to play and to do damage with the ball, you get a really good spectacle. They were better until their goal. We recovered well. We were better in the second half.”

The night started well for Barça. Inside the opening two minutes, Yamal produced one of the best dribbles you will see this season. Somehow keeping the ball from going out, he raced into the PSG half, beating several players before feeding Torres, who missed. The clip of the run will no doubt be reproduced millions of times on social media.

Then with the outside of his boot, Yamal set Torres up again, but Torres’ shot was cleared off the line this time. He wasn’t to miss for a third time, turning home inside the box after being fed by the lively Marcus Rashford.

PSG threatened on set pieces but weren’t making too many inroads. It became about Mendes and Yamal — in every sense. PSG captain Achraf Hakimi said before the game “the best left back in the world” will be capable of stopping Yamal, as he had done when the two met in the UEFA Nations League final for their countries earlier this year.

But we never got to enjoy the full spectacle the last time Barça and PSG met in April 2024. Yamal created the first goal before Ronald Araújo was sent off. Mendes could not stop him, but his coach at the time, Xavi Hernández did, taking him off to add another defender. PSG went on to win.

On Wednesday, Mendes managed to bundle Yamal off the ball in the box when it looked as if the star attacker might have escaped, and the Portuguese fullback then showed off his own attacking capabilities. He was cynically fouled by Frenkie de Jong on one driving run forward, then on another moments later, he set up Mayulu for the equalizer. Cubarsí won’t want to see the replay of his ill-timed challenge on the young PSG striker, which opened up his path to goal all too easily.

Just before halftime, Mendes fouled Yamal and was booked. Shortly after, he fouled him again. He was walking a tightrope, but luckily, with PSG the better side after the break, he didn’t have too much defending to do. But as a tiring Barça eventually broke forward after the hour, he brought Yamal down on the edge of the box. To the anger of the home fans, he avoided a second caution. Luis Enrique quickly reacted, bringing on Lucas Hernández and getting Mendes away from Yamal.

That came in the middle of Barça’s best spell in the second half. Dani Olmo also had a shot cleared off the line, but as the game moved on, and both teams would have been forgiven for accepting a point, it was PSG who looked the more likely winners.

“They had more of the ball,” García conceded. “We didn’t press as well as in the first half and when you’re chasing the ball, you tire quicker. They had chances.”

Lee Kang-in hit the post and Mendes headed straight at Wojciech Szczesny in the final 10 minutes. It looked as if the points would be shared, but Hakimi found room on the right, picked out Ramos in the box and the Portuguese forward fired home.

It brought the curtains down on an action-packed night in Barcelona. It wouldn’t be surprising if these two teams meet again later in the competition.

Substitute Gonçalo Ramos struck a last-minute winner as Paris Saint-Germain became the first team to win three times away to Barcelona in European competitions with a 2-1 victory at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Ramos sealed a Champions League comeback victory to the delight of PSG’s former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique after Achraf Hakimi had exposed the hosts’ high defensive line.

Ferran Torres had put Barcelona ahead inside 20 minutes to establish a club record by scoring in 45 consecutive games.

But the reigning European champions were level by halftime as Senny Mayulu, 19, converted in fine fashion.

This was a heavyweight clash between two teams that had won their opening Champions League ties and could conceivably contest the Budapest final in May.

Both sides were without key players as Barcelona lined up minus goalkeeper Joan García, Gavi, Fermín López and Raphinha.

PSG’s casualty list included captain Marquinhos, Désiré Doué, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembélé, and there was more frustration before kickoff as João Neves reported a problem in the warmup and was not risked.

Lamine Yamal almost skated his way through the PSG defense in the opening moments, and Barcelona did all the early running.

But Illia Zabarnyi nearly gave the visitors the lead after rising unchallenged from a Nuno Mendes corner.

Defender Zabarnyi was in more familiar territory two minutes later with a goal-line clearance, Yamal’s pass splitting the defense and Torres skipping past PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

Barcelona went ahead after 19 minutes as Vitinha’s wayward pass was pounced on by Yamal, who fed Pedri.

The ball was quickly moved wide to Marcus Rashford and his pass was matched by the sliding finish of Torres.

Dani Olmo saw an effort deflected wide, but Luis Enrique’s side grew in confidence as the first half developed.

Rashford conceded a needless free kick for Hakimi to test Wojciech Szczesny, and the Parisians leveled seven minutes before the break.

Mendes showed little effects of a kick on the Achilles moments earlier to stride forward with purpose.

Pau Cubarsi’s weak interception attempt allowed Mayulu, a scorer off the bench in last season’s 5-0 Champions League final demolition of Inter Milan, to equalize with a confident left-footed finish.

It should have got better for the French visitors, but the unmarked Bradley Barcola lifted the ball over the crossbar three minutes from halftime.

Barcola bypassed Gerard Martín after the restart to warm Szczesny’s gloves, but Barcelona almost regained the lead as Hakimi rushed back to block Olmo’s goal-bound effort.

Lee Kang-in cannoned a shot against the woodwork with seven minutes left, and PSG’s strong finish was rewarded by the clinical Ramos.

Paris Saint-Germain beat Auxerre 2-0 on Saturday but saw their injury problems mount ahead of their blockbuster Champions League clash against Barcelona.

Midfielder Vitinha came off late in the first half after creating the first goal and Georgia winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was replaced at halftime with an apparent thigh-muscle injury.

– Marquinhos adds to PSG injury woes before Barça

PSG were already without injured captain Marquinhos in central defence, as well as Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, fellow forward Désiré Doué and midfielder João Neves.

“Unfortunately I can’t say anything,” PSG head coach Luis Enrique said. “We need to wait for the medical staff to tell us tomorrow or the day after what kind of injuries they have.

“We have to stay positive because we need to be able to manage this situation,” he added of the injuries piling up.

“Paris Saint-Germain are not the only team with injuries. It is the case for every team with such an intense calendar.”

Both PSG’s goals on Saturday came from central defenders.

Illia Zabarnyi stretched to poke in Vitinha’s cross from the left in the 33rd minute. It was the Ukraine defender’s first goal since joining in the offseason from Premier League team Bournemouth.

Vitinha went off two minutes later.

Lucas Beraldo headed in Senny Mayulu‘s cross to make it 2-0 in the 55th.

The win moved PSG onto 15 points from six games, with Marseille, Monaco, Lyon and Strasbourg all on 12 points and separated by goal difference.

Lyon can move level on points with PSG if they win at Lille on Sunday.

Stripped of the captaincy. His contract nearing expiration without a renewal proposal. After zero minutes played in the opening three matches, nothing seemed to be going Lorenzo Pellegriniâ€s way. Until the Rome derby. The Roman-born midfielder cast aside all the issues surrounding him and scored the decisive goal for Roma in a 1-0 win over Lazio in Serie A on Sunday.

“Aside from all the reasoning and words, there is one constant, which is that I love Roma,†said Pellegrini, who joined the club aged nine. “As long as I wear this shirt, there wonâ€t be a moment where I will hold back. Life is unpredictable, you donâ€t know what could happen next. I seemed on the verge of leaving and then got hurt. But today I started and scored to win the derby.â€

After being derided by Gian Piero Gasperini a day earlier when Romaâ€s new coach said that, at 29, Pellegrini has “got to become an athlete and start running,†the midfielder was perfectly positioned to strike when the chance came his way in the 38th minute. Devyne Rensch did well to strip the ball from Lazioâ€s left-back Nuno Tavares and rolled it across to the former-captain, stationed in the centre of the area, to fire home, prompting Romaâ€s end of the Stadio Olimpico to erupt with smoke bombs.

Pellegrini, who is also trying to regain his spot in Italyâ€s squad, celebrated with a kiss toward the Curva Sud and Romaâ€s ultras. Moments before the goal, a banner popped up in the Curva Sud that said: “Welcome back, captain.†It was Pellegriniâ€s fourth career goal in the Derby della Capitale – but his first since January in any competition.

A tempestuous match finished with Lazio having only 10 men after Reda Belahyane was shown a straight red card for a foul on Manu Koné in the 88th. Still, Lazio kept on threatening and Danilo Cataldi hit the post in stoppage time. The fireworks continued after the full-time whistle with Lazioâ€s Mattéo Guendouzi also shown a red card for dissent as the teamâ€s head back to the dressing rooms.

Roma have won three of the last four derbies without conceding a goal, with the teams drawing 1-1 in their previous meeting. The victory also continues the Giallorossiâ€s strong early season form, they have won three of their four opening matches under Gasperini, who replaced the retiring Claudio Ranieri after nine seasons at Atalanta. Lazio have lost three out of four games since Sarri was rehired in the summer.

In France, Le Classique between Marseille and PSG has been postponed. Ligue 1 confirmed the news ahead of the scheduled evening kick-off in the anticipation of a major storm in the south of France.

The match has been rearranged for Monday evening, which directly clashes with the Ballon dâ€Or ceremony in Paris, where many PSG players and the clubâ€s manager – Luis Enrique – are nominated for awards.

Atlético Madridâ€s struggles in La Liga persisted as they were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by Mallorca on Sunday, with the goalkeeper Leo Román delivering an outstanding performance before Vedat Muriqiâ€s late header cancelled out Conor Gallagherâ€s opener.

The result left Diego Simeoneâ€s side languishing in 12th place with six points from five matches, while Mallorca are 19th with two points. Real Madrid lead the league with 15 points.

Román was pivotal for Mallorca, frustrating Atlético throughout the match with a series of remarkable saves. The 25-year-oldâ€s heroics began early, denying Giacomo Raspadoriâ€s audacious second-minute attempt with a one-handed save, before palming away Pablo Barriosâ€s effort in the seventh minute.

His performance included denying Julián Alvarez from the penalty spot early in the first half, a moment that encapsulated the visitors†inability to capitalise on their chances.

Atláticoâ€s frustrations mounted when Alexander Sørloth received a straight red card in the 72nd minute for a studs-up challenge on Antonio Raillo, leaving the visitors to play the final 18 minutes a man down.

Atletico finally found a way through in the 79th minute. Gallagher was quickest to react after Román parried Marcos Llorenteâ€s low effort across goal, slotting home to give the visitors the lead.

But their celebrations proved short-lived. In the 85th minute, the 19-year-old substitute Jan Virgili whipped in a cross that caught Atleticoâ€s defence napping, allowing Muriqi to head past Jan Oblak at the far post.

Haris Tabakovic snatched Borussia Mönchengladbachâ€s first goal of the season with a stoppage-time equaliser that earned them a 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. Tabakovic headed in deep in stoppage time to cancel out Malik Tillmanâ€s 70th-minute goal for the hosts.

Gladbach, who sacked coach Gerardo Seoane on Monday after their worst start in 34 years following three league games without scoring a goal, had Eugen Polanski in the dugout as interim coach.

Leverkusen scored in the 70th minute when Tillman tapped in from 10 yards. With time running out Tabakovic rose high to connect with his fellow substitute Charles Herrmannâ€s corner for the equaliser that left Leverkusen in 12th place on five points.

Gladbach, who are without a league win in their last 11 matches, including last season, are 17th on two points.
