R Ashwin’s three-word post after India's series defeat against Australia sets social media on fire; What does it mean?R Ashwin posted a cryptic post on X after India’s loss to Australia (Images via AP, Getty Images) Three years after his iconic “leave†against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin stirred social media on Wednesday with a cryptic post that fans believe carried a deeper meaning. On the same date in 2022, Ashwin had displayed remarkable composure in one of the most dramatic finishes in T20 World Cup history. With India needing two runs off the final delivery against Pakistan, the spinner calmly chose to leave a full ball from Mohammad Nawaz that drifted down the leg side. The umpire signaled a wide, levelling the scores, before Ashwin lofted the next ball over mid-off to seal a famous win for India. On Thursday, hours after India’s series defeat to Australia, Ashwin posted an image featuring Nikeâ€s iconic Swoosh logo in Indiaâ€s tricolour, with the tagline reading, “Just Leave It.†The post immediately sparked widespread discussion, with fans linking it to that unforgettable moment at the MCG. While many viewed it as a clever nod to his famous leave, others speculated that it could be a subtle dig at Team Indiaâ€s current struggles following their ODI series loss to Australia under Shubman Gillâ€s captaincy. R Ashwin on X

Some users even suggested it might be aimed at senior players who failed to deliver in Adelaide, where India lost the second ODI by two wickets. Virat Kohli in particular, got out for a four-ball duck in Adelaide. The post, though without any caption or clarification, triggered a flood of reactions online. Several fans revisited Ashwinâ€s calmness during that 2022 thriller, sharing old clips and commentary highlights. Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle had famously said after that match, “While you celebrate the win, spare a thought for the calmness of Ashwin in playing the wide and not looking for the slog.â€

Poll

What was your first reaction to Ashwin’s cryptic post?

Back then, social media had hailed Ashwinâ€s awareness and composure in that tense moment, with one fan noting, “2 required off 1, millions watching and the man has the audacity to leave the ball for wide!!†Whether Ashwinâ€s latest post was merely a throwback or carried a hidden message remains unclear. But much like his decisive leave at the MCG, the all-rounder has once again managed to leave everyone guessing.

They are incredible players, but this is not the forum to harp on individual performances. Two years from now, it’s difficult to predict the situation. Who knows, younger players may emerge and claim those spots. Both are great players, and they will not be judged in every match. Once they start playing, we will assess the situation. It’s about winning trophies, not just scoring runs. It’s not like if they score three hundreds in the Australia series, they will automatically play the 2027 World Cup. We have to take the overall situation into account,” Agarkar said. The Indian cricket management is focused on evaluating players’ performances and making decisions based on team requirements. The future composition of the team remains uncertain as new talent emerges and veterans continue to perform.

Denver Broncos edge-rusher Nik Bonitto took shots at New York Giants pass-rushers Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux on social media following his team’s 33-32 comeback win.

Bonitto deleted the post, but not before it was captured in screen shots and shared:

The trash talk seemed to stem from Denver linebacker Jonathon Cooper taking a dig at Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart during a press conference:

Bonitto then sparred with Giants’ fans online, calling them a “delusional fan base.”

It all caught the attention of Thibodeaux, who had his own response on social media:

Carter, meanwhile, had his own thoughts on all of the trash talk.

“Yeah, we believe in our guys. Really don’t want to put too much into it—we’re ready for Sunday, and we’re gonna settle everything on the field,” he told reporters. “Yeah, we’re going to settle everything; it don’t really matter no more.”

It was a lot of talk from defenders who promptly watched both offenses put up massive points. Bonitto had two tackles and a quarterback hit on the day, though Cooper was more impactful (three tackles, 1.5 sacks, two quarterback hits).

On the other side, Carter had three tackles and Thibodeaux had one tackle. The Broncos had the last laugh, as Bo Nix and the offense scored a staggering 33 points in the fourth quarter to erase a 19-0 deficit heading into the final frame.

It was a brutal loss for the Giants, only heightened by the war of words that preceded it.

There has never been an MLB player like Shohei Ohtani, and he just authored his masterpiece — “The Ohtani Game” — on Friday in Game 4 of the NLCS.

Facing a Milwaukee Brewers team that held the best record in MLB during the regular season, Ohtani posted three mammoth homers in a 3-for-3 night at the plate and struck out 10 in six-plus scoreless innings on the mound, almost single-handedly pushing the Dodgers to a 5-1 win that ended a series sweep.

[Yahoo Sports TV is here! Watch live shows and highlights 24/7]

He had the three hardest-hit balls of the game, and the 11 hardest-thrown pitches. He had the Dodger Stadium fans screaming. He had his teammates ranging from stunned silence to hilarious guffawing. He had his manager plotting to “ruin baseball.” He had media scrambling to figure out what you even say when a man with three MVP awards (soon to be four), a World Series ring and MLB’s only 50-50 season surpasses himself.

He also had Brewers manager Pat Murphy tipping his cap in defeat. As the Dodgers received the Warren C. Giles Trophy and Ohtani received his well-deserved NLCS MVP Award, Murphy described the game as “maybe the best individual performance ever in a postseason game.”

And that somehow may be underselling it. We might have just watched the greatest performance, bar none, in the history of baseball. That’s a heavy title, though, so let’s go through Ohtani’s competition.

(ASSOCIATED PRESS)

We should spell out that we’re specifically talking about entire games here rather than one huge moment, and are trying to not include performances where there seems to be a clear upgrade. So Bill Mazeroski’s walk-off homer in Game 7 of the 1960 World Series won’t be here, nor will, say, a postseason no-hitter be here when there’s already a postseason perfect game.

On that note …

Don Larsen’s perfect game

The only perfect game ever thrown in the postseason, and it happened in a pivotal Game 5 that helped push the New York Yankees to a seven-game win over the defending champion Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1956 Fall Classic.

Larsen struck out seven and needed only 97 pitches to get all 27 outs against a Dodgers lineup that featured five future Hall of Famers in Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider, Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges and Roy Campanella. Oh, and he posted a sacrifice bunt that helped score the Yankees’ second run in a 2-0 win.

Almost by definition, it’s hard to imagine a better performance on the game’s biggest stage. If you still want to call this the greatest single-game performance in MLB history, we won’t stop you.

Sandy Koufax’s Game 7 triumph

The Dodgers legend earned a spot on this list through pure perseverance.

At first glance, a 10-strikeout, three-hit shutout in Game 7 of the 1965 World Series is an incredible achievement. But also consider that Koufax was pitching on two days’ rest after throwing another shutout in Game 5. Consider that Koufax had invited immense scrutiny by sitting out Game 1 of the series because it was Yom Kippur. Consider that Koufax didn’t have his legendary curveball working in that game, so he blew away the Minnesota Twins with just his fastball.

And consider that Koufax did it a year after being diagnosed with traumatic arthritis in his pitching arm, which caused him to pitch through unimaginable pain for the final two legendary seasons of his career.

“Greatness” is an amorphous concept. It can be taken to mean anything from statistical production to shows of character, but when you take in just how much Koufax had going against him, you can’t deny there isn’t some definition of greatness where this game is on top.

Bob Gibson’s 17-strikeout shutout

The St. Louis Cardinals ace was so dominant in 1968 that baseball lowered the mound, lest the “Year of the Pitcher” have repeats. And Game 1 of that year’s World Series was his apex of dominance. His 17 strikeouts are a postseason record that still stands, and it was in a duel with Denny McLain, who is likely to be the last 30-game winner in MLB history.

We can also add an honorable mention to Jack Morris’ 10-inning shutout in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series.

And that pretty much ends the postseason competition for Ohtani. There have been some incredible, clutch offensive performances, but the basic nature of baseball makes it hard to surpass the greatest pitching performances as a hitter. Unless you happen to be doing both at the same time, like Ohtani just did.

Rick Wise’s 2-HR no-hitter

Moving onto the regular season, we have the one guy who can probably say he did more for his team in a game than Ohtani did for the Dodgers in Game 4.

Two days ago, the question “What would you rather your pitcher do, hit three homers and throw six scoreless innings or hit two homers while throwing a no-hitter?” would sound ludicrous. It’s now very real, as Wise did the latter against the Cincinnati Reds in their Big Red Machine era.

The Philadelphia Phillies right-hander posted only three strikeouts on the mound, but a no-hitter is a no-hitter. There have actually been four no-hitters with a home run, but Wise is the only one to go deep multiple times.

So that can go on the vision board for Ohtani.

That other Shohei Ohtani game

Remember last year, when Ohtani hit three home runs and stole two bases to not only become the first 50-50 player in MLB history, but reach 51-51 in the same game? Isn’t it wild how he seems to have one-upped that?

In total, Ohtani went 6-for-6 with 3 homers, 2 doubles, 2 steals, 4 runs scored and 10 RBI. Had he successfully stretched a double into a triple in the third inning, it would also have been a cycle. Obviously, hitting and pitching at an elite level is the most impressive thing Ohtani does, but it can’t be forgotten that he just decided to start stealing bases in 2024 and ended up doing this:

Other regular-season records

For the remaining games, take your pick.

There have been 21 four-homer games, four 20-strikeout games (five if you count Randy Johnson, which you probably should in this case) and 21 perfect games. Some of those that stand out:

  • Max Scherzer’s 17-strikeout no-hitter, the second-highest game score on record

  • Koufax and Matt Cain each reaching 14 strikeouts in their perfect games, the most ever in a perfecto

As far as we can tell, that is pretty much the full list of games that could be considered alongside Ohtani.

Your definition of greatness is ultimately up to you. If you care about pure achievement, you might take Larsen. If you care about personal narrative, you might take Koufax. If you care about numbers going up more than the postseason, any of the above games could be your pick.

But to combine it all in a two-way spectacle beyond precedent, to send his team to the World Series, when baseball has never been played at a higher level, well, it makes a convincing case that we just watched the greatest day at the office in the history of the sport.

While he remains absent from AEW television, “Switchblade” Jay White has also been silent on social media, especially X. The latter changed when White returned to his timeline with a new one-word post.

“Ready?” he wrote on Thursday afternoon, with over 600 comments coming in the hours following. Most of the replies expressed excitement for what White’s post could mean, whether that be a comeback to in-ring action or something else.

White’s last post on X came in July, when he replied to a fan calling for him to win a singles championship in AEW with a winking gif. Before that, he hadn’t been active on the platform since March.

White has also been sidelined from action since March 2025, when he last wrestled Kevin Knight on “AEW Collision.” Sometime after, White reportedly sustained a hand injury that would require surgery. Months later, reports indicated that White was also battling a shoulder injury, though it was unclear as to whether he’d undergo surgery for that as well.

Prior to hurting his hand, White was slated to compete in the 2025 Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. After a storyline attack at the hands of the Death Riders signaled White’s exit from television, however, Knight took his place and faced Will Ospreay in the opening round.Â

Under the AEW-ROH banner, Knight is a former AEW World Trios and ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champion. His tag partner Juice Robinson returned to the ring in July 2025 after being sidelined with an injury of his own.

Bron Breakker has taken a big step towards becoming WWE’s next World Heavyweight Champion. After expelling Seth Rollins from The Vision, Breakker has taken control of the situation once again with a statement on the future.

The Dog of RAW was in possession of The Visionary’s World Heavyweight Championship when he left the RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia earlier today following a live RAW with Crown Jewel fallout. CM Punk defeated Jey Uso and LA Knight in the RAW main event to earn the next title shot from Rollins, but the celebration was shut down by an onslaught against the babyface trio by Breakker and Bronson Reed, while Paul Heyman looked on, and Rollins directed traffic.

The Visionary seems to be injured, based off photos that emerged after RAW went off the air earlier today. Footage taken inside the RAC Arena for the post-RAW dark segment revealed how Breakker stole Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship. The dark segment also teased a brawl between Bron and Bronson, but they embraced and left with The Wiseman as fans chanted for Punk and seemingly heckled Rollins.

Bron Breakker Issues Statement On The Vision Following WWE RAW

Seth Rollins was booted from The Vision today during RAW in Perth, Western Australia. Now the faction is moving forward with Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Paul Heyman, for now. Becky Lynch was recently aligned with her husband’s group, but it’s likely that the Women’s Intercontinental Champion also is no longer welcome as she prepares for an upcoming title defense.

The Dog of RAW took to Instagram after today’s explosive RAW with his first words since booting The Visionary from The Vision. Breakker made a big statement on The Vision moving forward, and even attached a few exclusive photos from RAW.

“The Vision has never been more clear [rocket emoji],” Bron Breakker wrote with the photos below.

WWE has not confirmed when Punk or Breakker might get a singles shot from Rollins. However, there’s already strong speculation on a Triple Threat, depending on Rollins’ health.

The San Francisco 49ers have already been depleted by injuries this season, and another key member of the defense has been lost for the season.

After being carted off in the first quarter of Sunday’s 30-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with an air cast on his right leg, linebacker Fred Warner was diagnosed with a dislocated and broken right ankle, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters.

He will need surgery and miss the remainder of the season. On Monday, Warner released a statement to fans on Instagram and included an inspirational quote from Kobe Bryant:

“There’s certain games you wake up knowing it’s gonna be your day, and yesterday was one of those days,” Warner posted on Instagram on Monday. “I knew I was bout to go off, and then boom everything over in one instant that was completely unpreventable. The love everyone has shown me and the prayers being had for me mean the world to me. Some ask why I was able to smile on the cart heading in and it’s because (aside from the shock) I have complete peace in knowing Gods plan is so completely perfect and I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. I’ve had the privilege of being able to have a very healthy 8 seasons and now it’s time to inspire through the comeback I’m bout to have. It will be LEGENDARY and right on time God willing. Thank you guys, love always GO NINERSðŸðŸ¾â¤ï¸”

Warner, who agreed to a three-year, $63 million extension that made him the league’s highest-paid linebacker this offseason, is not only one of the 49ers’ best defensive players, but one of the best players in the entire NFL.

Through five games, the veteran had racked up 50 tackles, two tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. His 28 solo tackles are the fifth-most in the NFL this year. Needless to say, losing Warner for any amount of time would be a huge loss for the 49ers defense.

San Francisco has arguably had the worst injury luck of any team so far this season. The Niners came into Sunday’s matchup missing Nick Bosa, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle, Brock Purdy and Ricky Pearsall and more, and a depleted roster has been the story all year.

Yet the 49ers have managed to thrive even with all the injuries. They came into Sunday 4-1, sitting in first place in the NFC West after last week’s overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Much of San Francisco’s success can be attributed to the unexpected breakout of backup quarterback Mac Jones, who came into Sunday having thrown for 905 yards, six touchdowns and an interception in three starts, all of which were wins.

Even if Jones keeps up his tremendous play, losing Warner will be a significant downgrade.

Warner, who has spent his entire eight-year career with the Niners, has missed just one game since coming into the league, and he played through a broken bone in his ankle in 2024.

Triple H was greeted with an interesting chant from fans attending the WWE Crown Jewel post-show in Perth on Saturday.

The live crowd standing behind hosts Big E, Peter Rosenberg, and Jackie Redmond chanted “We want Edge†at Triple H, referencing AEWâ€s Adam Copeland. They even sang Copelandâ€s theme music. As Triple Hâ€s appearance on the panel continued, fans also chanted for Batista, MJF, and called for WrestleMania to be brought to Australia.

Cena and Adam Copeland have paid tribute to each other in recent matches, with Cena using Copeland’s spear in a match against Sami Zayn on SmackDown, and Copeland paying tribute to Cena at AEW All Out.

Triple H was asked about Cena vs. Styles at Crown Jewel and responded that he saw the match as “a love letter to professional wrestling.”

“It was incredible. You hear this sometimes said in this business, it was a love letter to professional wrestling and I really believe that. Two of the most decorated performers, two of the greatest performers of a generation, both kind of coming to the end now.”

“For both of them to go out there, perform at this level, do what they did, and put on just a massive tribute to what we all love to do, get to do, or get to watch, it was just incredible.”

Jackie Redmond added that the match turned many people backstage “into little kids” watching it.

Triple H was asked about the amount of yellow John Cena t-shirts in the crowd for the show, with Rosenberg mentioning it looked like they handed the shirts out to the crowd.

“It was incredible. The amount of shirts was unbelievable,” Triple H said. “But that’s a testament to John Cena and who he is as a performer.”

SAN FRANCISCO – The NBA preseason is a learning experience for youngsters and veterans alike, and the Warriors will have plenty of positives and negatives to review after what turned into a wild 129-123 win against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night at Chase Center.

Behind the 3-point prowess of Quinten Post (20 points) and LJ Cryer (14 points), and rookie Will Richardâ€s constant activity, the Warriors rallied for a spirited comeback where they outscored the Blazers 51-26 in the fourth quarter.

Steph Curry in his one half of action played 16 minutes and scored 11 points, going 3 of 7 overall and 2 of 5 on threes. Draymond Green also played 16 minutes, and also hit a pair of threes on his way to nine points. Jimmy Butler was the leading scorer of the three, and the only to have a positive plus/minus.

Butler, a plus-3 in 17 minutes, scored 12 points to go with two rebounds, three assists and two steals. He was 3 of 6 from the field, and 6 of 8 on free throws.

The Warriors again play the Blazers in the preseason next Tuesday, as well as the third game of the 2025-26 NBA regular season in what will be the second night of a back-to-back.

Here are three takeaways from the Warriors†second win to start their five-game preseason schedule.

Horford Gets Starting Nod

After opening the preseason with a small-ball lineup in the Warriors’ first game, coach Steve Kerr switched gears and went big against the Blazers. Al Horford moved into the starting lineup, with the real decision being Moses Moody staying and Brandin Podziemski coming off the bench. Horford and Moody accompanied Curry, Butler and Green.Â

“Al gives us the ability to play bigger with shooting,†Kerr explained at his pregame press conference. “Portlandâ€s got a pretty big team and I would anticipate theyâ€ll start [Donovan] Clingan. I think I mentioned last game, I donâ€t want to throw Draymond out there constantly against these big centers. So this is a good night to take a look at that lineup and see what we do.â€

The Warriors trailed 18-15 when Kerr first turned to his bench, replacing Moody and Horford with Buddy Hield and Post with a little more than five minutes left in the first quarter. Moody blocked two shots in the first minute, and Horford already had two rebounds and one assist. He should have had two assists by then if Moody would have converted an open layup.

But Horfordâ€s first assist was an eye-opening dime. The 39-year-old center grabbed a defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast, finding Butler in transition for an easy layup at the rim.

The starters didnâ€t play together again all night. Like the preseason opener, Curry, Butler, Green and Horford all sat the second half. Horford was scoreless in 11 minutes while missing his four shot attempts. Moody didnâ€t start the second half and was a minus-10 in 20 minutes, scoring 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting.

Second Unit Struggles

Once Kerr turned to his bench, the game flipped in favor of the Blazers. The Warriors used a 10-man rotation in the first quarter, using Podziemski, Hield, Post, Jonathan Kuminga and Gary Payton II off the bench. That unit lost its run 19-4 in the first quarter alone.

The Blazers†bench outscored the Warriors†reserves 18-7 in the first quarter, and Portland went on a 13-0 run to hold a 14-point 39-25 lead going into the second quarter.

By halftime, the Warriors were losing the bench battle 25-20. All of the Warriors†bench players had a negative plus/minus, and Deni Avdija, who was up to 13 points, was the lone Blazers bench player in the negative.

Seth Curry eventually will be an option off the bench for Kerr, and should at least provide more outside shooting. Curry “is still ramping up,†per Kerr, and has yet to play in the preseason. He will be waived by Oct. 18 and is eligible to be re-signed starting Nov. 11.Â

Podziemski and Kuminga each were a game-low minus-17.

Defensive Work In Progress

If Toumani Camara starts making threes like he did against the Warriors, the rest of the league could have a problem on its hands. The Second Team All-Defensive selection from last season was part of the reason the Warriors were buried from long distance on their home court.

Camara went 4 of 7 from 3-point range in the first half before missing his two attempts in the second half. Shaedon Sharpe also was 4 of 7 beyond the arc in the first half as the Blazers went 12 of 28 on threes through the first two quarters. The Warriors were losing the long distance battle, and were being beaten by speed.

Most of the Blazers†threes were open shots, and the Warriors were late to rotate. The Blazers shot 46.3 percent in the first half, including a 42.9 3-point percentage. The Warriors also only had two steals compared to six by the Blazers going into halftime, and they turned the ball over three times more than them – 12 to three.

Effort and resiliency from the back of the bench deserves tons of positivity. First, the defensive miscues will have to be cleaned up ahead of Sundayâ€s game in LA against the Lakers.

“We all knew it was an ad, right?” Lakers head coach JJ Redick said after practice on Tuesday.

Redick then cracked to the group of reporters around him: “You guys are idiots.”

Although Lakers players and coaches knew better than to worry about James’ X post that previewed “the decision of all decisions” to appear the next day on his social media account, some in the general public were duped until James revealed the purpose of the post on Tuesday.

In an advertisement for Hennessy cognac, James sat down for an interview while wearing a red and white checkered shirt — referencing his made-for-TV special that aired on ESPN in 2010 when he announced his decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and take his talents to South Beach to join the Miami Heat.

In the liquor spot, James says he is going to take his talents to Hennessy VSOP.

Redick, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura all said they had their phones flooded with texts after James’ post.

“I think most people that text me are also aware that it’s probably an ad,” Redick said. “So it wasn’t … nobody was freaking out.”

Hachimura said he texted James to get the information straight from the source, and James responded with an emoji — but Hachimura wouldn’t share which emoji.

“He loves to do that type of stuff,” Hachimura said of James. “Surprises, right?”

Reaves said he did get some phone calls asking about James’ intent.

“People [were] thinking that he was retiring,” Reaves said. “I’m glad he’s not. That’s all I can say.”

Reaves was asked if he has ever tried the product that James was hawking and replied that he doesn’t drink alcohol.

Then he added: “If I start, I guess it’ll be that.”
