Harry Kane scored his 400th club goal of his career as Bayern Munich dealt Borussia Dortmund their first Bundesliga loss of the season by winning Der Klassiker 2-1 on Saturday.
Kane scored in the 22nd minute with a header to Joshua Kimmich’s corner. It was his 22nd goal for club and country this season and stretched his scoring streak in the Bundesliga to five games that have yielded nine goals.
The 32-year-old now has 104 goals in 107 matches with Bayern Munich since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023. Kane netted 280 times for boyhood club Spurs, while his other club goals came during early career loan spells at Millwall (nine), Leyton Orient (five) and Leicester City (two).
– Kane is tearing up the Bundesliga. What’s next for England’s No. 9?
He also has 76 goals for England, after scoring twice against Latvia on Tuesday to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Those goals extended his scoring streak for club and country to a career-best nine games.
Kane’s latest goal Saturday came despite playing in a deeper role behind striker Nicolas Jackson, on loan from Chelsea.
“Probably six, eight and 10,” Kane joked with ESPN when asked what position he played against Dortmund. “But I enjoy it, I enjoy a different side of my game.
“I know everyone’s used to me being up top and scoring goals but I feel like I can contribute a lot more and today was a prime example. I still managed to obviously get on the scoresheet, which was nice, but ultimately it was more about defending, about tackles, about picking up second balls and then playing the passes in behind, which worked pretty well.”

Kane launched the first good chance, while defending. He eluded two Dortmund forwards, and sent the ball forward. Michael Olise drew a save from Gregor Kobel, who then secured Luis DÃaz’s effort from the rebound.
Olise grazed the left post with another shot. The only complaint Bayern could have at the break was that it was leading only 1-0.
Dortmund improved significantly after the interval when Felix Nmecha went close, Serhou Guirassy fired over, and Karim Adeyemi failed to capitalize on a rare Kimmich mistake.
It mattered little, as Olise sealed the win by sliding in to cut out substitute Jobe Bellingham’s attempted goal-line clearance in the 79th. That move started with a brilliant cross-field ball from Kane for DÃaz.
Substitute Julian Brandt scored seconds after his introduction but Kane defended as Bayern held on for their 11th consecutive win across all competitions to deliver a statement to their closest rival after six rounds.
“It was a good performance,” Kane added. “I feel like after the international break, the first game back is never easy, a lot of players getting back late Wednesday, late Thursday and you’re playing against a good side.
“For about 50, 60 minutes I thought we dominated, we controlled the game. The first half we probably should have been two- or three-nil up but you give these types of teams a chance and it’s difficult.
“[We’ve] done well to get the second goal and to concede straight away was annoying but overall we can be really pleased.”

There were some question marks surrounding Egor Demin‘s shooting ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, and rightfully so.
Demin shot just 27.3 percent from three during his lone season of college basketball at BYU, causing many scouts to be hesitant about how his shot would translate to the NBA. But that didn’t scare the Nets away, as they saw the potential star upside in his game and selected him with the No. 8 overall pick in June.
While it’s still very early in his professional career, Demin demonstrated his skill set Friday night in his preseason debut against the Toronto Raptors. The 19-year-old, who missed the team’s first three preseason games due to a plantar fascia tear, scored 14 points with five rebounds and an assist in 19 minutes off the bench.
The performance earned him praise from teammates Michael Porter Jr. (34 points) and Cam Thomas (seven points), who believe the 6-foot-9 rookie can make a real impact in the NBA.
“Oh, yeah, he’s solid. He’s going to be really good,” Porter Jr. told the New York Post. “Positionally, for his size, if he can translate all those point guard skills over to the pros, he’s going to be a problem.
“He makes the right reads and the right plays. So I know it may take time to deal with the physicality of the point guard position in the NBA, but once he gets the hang of it, he’s going to be really, really good.”

— Brooklyn Nets (@BrooklynNets) October 18, 2025
Demin’s 14 points came on 3 of 5 shooting, including 2 of 3 from three-point range, and 6 of 7 on free throws. 11 of his 14 points came in the first half, including all of the foul shots. He also recorded a block and committed two turnovers in the 119-114 loss.
“He was great. He was great. Obviously, it’s preseason, but he was good for his first game,” Thomas said. “We’ll see what happens in Charlotte, but it was a great start for him, for sure.”
While Demin is still working his way back to full strength from the foot injury, as he only started playing five-on-five while the team was in China, head coach Jordi Fernandez was pleased with what he saw from the guard Friday night.
“He was excellent,” Fernandez said. “There’s going to be things he’s going to keep working on. We’ve got to keep building him up physically to be able to sustain more minutes. … But I’m very happy with his presence, how composed he was, how he talked to his teammates, all those things. And made it look easy.
“He shot the ball every time he was open or halfway open, got to the free-throw line and rebounded. He got five rebounds, made nice plays at the rim. It was good.”
Demin added that his first bit of NBA action was a great learning experience, and he’ll take those lessons with him into the regular season.
“Yeah, 100 percent. I’ve been told a lot about the Raptors as one of the most physical and longest teams from the standpoint of pressure almost the whole game, and how pesky they are,” Demin said. “I don’t want to say I was scared, but I was super aware of what to expect. But I also couldn’t understand what to expect in my first game … so I’m just happy we went through this and had this experience. It’s a huge lesson for all of us, and I can’t wait for the start of the season.”
NEW YORK — Bo Horvat tied it short-handed in the second period, scored the go-ahead goal on the power play and finished off the hat trick with an empty-netter with 8.1 seconds left to help the New York Islanders pick up their first win of the season by rallying to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 on Thursday night.
Seven seconds after Trent Frederic high-sticked Matthew Schaefer, Horvat beat Stuart Skinner with 4:46 left to bring fans — some of whom were booing the home team earlier — to their feet. Mat Barzal had the Islanders’ first goal and the primary assist on Horvat’s game-winner, while David Rittich stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced at the other end of the ice in his Islanders debut.
Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard gave the puck away on an inexplicable turnover in the neutral zone to set up Barzal’s goal and was the last player back on the power play who let Horvat past him for a breakaway on Skinner. Bouchard, who is the fourth-highest-paid player at his position in the NHL and tied for 14th among all players at a salary cap hit of $10.5 million, also coughed the puck up to cause several quality scoring chances against.
Leon Draisaitl scored on the power play, his third goal this season, off a feed from Connor McDavid, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had Edmonton’s other goal. Skinner was hardly to blame in allowing three goals on 24 shots as teammates hung him out to dry on multiple occasions with mistakes all over in a back-and-forth, fast-paced game, including Frederic’s ill-timed penalty.
The Islanders will take the two points however they can get them after opening with losses at Pittsburgh and at home to Washington and Winnipeg. Schaefer, playing against McDavid for the first time as No. 1 draft picks a decade apart, skated 17:38 in his fourth game in the league.

It wasnâ€t exactly a secret what the Brooklyn Nets†goal was for this season: They used all five of their first-round picks last June, then this summer they traded or let walk Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, Dennis Schroder and Dâ€Angelo Russell. Brooklyn is going to lean into Cam Thomas — playing for his next contract on the qualifying offer — and Michael Porter Jr. to drive their offense.
But if you had any doubts about the plan, here is what team owner Joe Tsai said while on the All-In podcast (hat tip RealGM).
“I have to say weâ€re in a rebuilding year. We spent all of our pick (in the 2025 NBA Draft). We had five first-round draft picks this past summer …
“We have one [first-round] pick in 2026, and we hope to get a good pick. So, you can predict what kind of strategy we will use for this season. But we have a very young team.â€
This upcoming NBA Draft is considered a strong draft at the top with Darryn Peterson (Kansas), A.J. Dybantsa (BYU) and Cameron Boozer (Duke) all in the mix for the No. 1 pick, with some other real talent such as Nate Ament (Tennessee), Mikel Brown (Louisville) and Tounde Yessoufou (Baylor) worth keeping an eye on.
Brooklyn isnâ€t the only team starting this season with an eye toward the draft, the same idea is playing out in Utah and Washington, and you can be sure a few other teams with long-shot postseason hopes will be pivoting to the strategy early.
The Nets control their own pick this season, but in 2027 the Houston Rockets have swap rights. Starting in 2028, the Nets will have their own first-round picks and/or first-round picks or swaps coming in from the Knicks, 76ers and Nuggets.
Cooper Foster scored three goals, Nic Whitehead had two assists and the Ottawa 67’s defeated the visiting Erie Otters 4-1 in Ontario Hockey League action on Saturday at TD Place.
Kohyn Eshkawkogan also scored for the unbeaten 67’s (4-0-0-0), who outshot the visitors 58-16.
Gabriel Frasca scored a power-play goal for the Otters (2-4-0-0), who trailed 3-0 heading into the third period.
The Otters went 1-for-2 on the power play, while the 67’s were 0-for-5.
Ryder Fetterolf stopped 15 of 16 shots in the 67’s net, while Noah Erliden stopped 54 of 58 for the Otters.

Harry Kane reached a century of goals for Bayern Munich with his second strike against Werder Bremen on Friday and claimed a piece of European history in the process.
Kane’s 100 goals have come in just 104 matches, the fastest anyone has achieved that mark with a club in Europe’s top five leagues this century.
– Rae: Musiala’s injury has pushed Bayern’s Kane to get even better
– Tottenham’s Frank: Would love Kane return but don’t expect it
Erling Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo needed 105 games to notch 100 goals for Manchester City and Real Madrid, respectively.
Kane, who joined the Bundesliga giants from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, is the 19th man to score 100 goals for Bayern.

“I knew about this record, for sure,” Kane told ESPN. “It was hard not to hear about it or see it. Yeah, it’s a big one, first of all to reach 100 goals for any club is an amazing achievement. A club like Bayern Munich is extra special. And then to do it in record time, one game less, you’re talking about some of the great players — Ronaldo one of the best ever, Haaland on his way to being a great.
“These are great achievements that I can look back on when I’m a bit older, but for now it’s just about enjoying it.”
Kane is under contract with Bayern until the end of next season and coach Vincent Kompany dismissed a question about whether the England captain might seek a return to the Premier League next year.
“I honestly have to say that isn’t a topic for us. We don’t discuss that, we don’t need to discuss that,” Kompany told Sky. “What he’s showing now is how he feels, I believe, and that was another nice moment for him today.”
The 32-year-old has been in particularly prolific form to start the new season. Kane now has 10 goals in five Bundesliga games and 15 goals in all competitions.
After Jonathan Tah had opened the scoring for Bayern, Kane made it 2-0 with his 99th goal from the penalty spot in the 45th minute after being fouled by Marco Friedl. It was Kane’s 18th successful penalty conversion in 18 attempts for Bayern, the longest streak without failing to score in Bundesliga history.
It took only until the 65th minute for Kane to bring up the century as he finished low from the center of the box following a pass from Luis DÃaz.
Although he was undoubtedly eyeing a third hat trick of the season, Kane was substituted in the 78th minute to a warm reception from Bayern fans inside Allianz Arena.
The match finished 4-0 after Konrad Laimer added a fourth goal for Bayern late on to stretch their lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a fifth win in as many games.
“We’ve built a lot on what we started last year with the manager, the way he wants us to play, his ideas without the ball,” Kane added. “And month by month, we’ve been getting better. This start of the season wasn’t easy because of the lack of preseason after the Club Word Cup, so to start the season how we have is compliments to everyone involved.
“There’s still a long way to go, but when you’re winning games like this and dominating games it sends a message to every other team, not just in Germany but in Europe as well.”
Bayern will now prepare to visit Pafos of Cyprus in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Information from ESPN Research and The Associated Press was used in this report.
Brooklyn Nets restricted free agent guard Cam Thomas didn’t take kindly to remarks made by NBA analyst Zach Lowe regarding consensus thoughts about his game last year, and the former ESPN commentator offered a response.
On Tuesday, Thomas was asked about Lowe’s response and provided his remarks.
On July 14, Lowe led a discussion on key restricted free agents during his podcast. He made these remarks on Thomas, citing consensus around the league.
“The consensus on Cam Thomas — if there is one, and he’s got some fans, and he’s got some mega-detractors — but the consensus is kind of like empty calories, ball hog.”
Lowe responded on his July 21 podcast (52:53).
“If Cam Thomas had listened to the subsequent 12 minutes — I don’t think he did, but I don’t know — he would have heard me deep dive into his game and talk about career-high in assists, certain kind of passes he’s gotten meaningfully better at. Nic Claxton lobs, little dump-offs, and stuff like that,” Lowe said, per Erik Slater of ClutchPoints.
“I have said consistently for two years about Cam Thomas: the guy can straight up get buckets, and there is a place for him in the NBA. To me, that place is most likely a sixth-man, scoring burst guy, which is what I said in that 12-minute segment. Nekias Duncan on that segment went and got numbers about how good the Cam Thomas–Claxton pick-and-roll was. And then I talked about how a lot of Cam’s passes are like, ‘I’m-in-jail, last-resort’ passes.
“And what does he look like as an off-ball player? I’m not sure that anyone really knows that yet, or we’ve seen a lot of evidence of it. My only rebuttal would be: it was a fair [segment]. No one else in national media is going into 200 Cam Thomas pick-and-rolls before a podcast to really dissect it. And I offered my own opinion. He probably still doesn’t like my own opinion that he’s probably best as a sixth- or seventh-man scorer, and I’m not sure he has the vision or the mindset. And, frankly, I do think sometimes he plays like a ball hog, and that’s OK. Because he can score and he plays on a terrible team. But I don’t think anything I said was unfair.”
Now, a few months later, Thomas provided his thoughts at the Nets’ media day.
Thomas, a former LSU star selected No. 27 overall in the NBA draft, averaged 24.0 points on 43.8 percent shooting (34.9 percent from three), 3.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season. Unfortunately, his season was cut short to 25 games due to a left hamstring strain.
Thomas best showcased his talents scoring and passing near the end of last season, notably amassing a career-high 10 assists in his final regular season game of the year to go along with 24 points. He also averaged 5.8 assists per game over his final five matchups overall.
He signed a one-year, $6 million qualifying offer with the team on Sept. 6, and he’ll be an unrestricted free agent after this season. So the 2025-26 season is obviously a big one for him as he looks for a big deal next year.
Thomas and the Nets open this season on Oct. 22 with a road game at the Charlotte Hornets.

NEW YORK — Michael Porter Jr. has a familiar face helping ease his transition from Denver to Brooklyn.
The 6-foot-10 forward felt overwhelmed by the demands that come with playing in New York during the Nuggets’ yearly visits to face the city’s two NBA clubs.
But his reunion with Nets coach Jordi Fernandez — a former Nuggets assistant coach — has eased the 27-year-old Midwestern sharpshooter’s acclimation to the Big Apple.
“That has been big for me,” Porter said Tuesday. “Just coming to a new city and feeling a little bit of being overwhelmed, just to have a guy as a head coach that I am working with every day, somebody like Jordi.”

The Nets acquired Porter and a 2032 first-round pick for forward Cam Johnson in July and already are planning on making him a focal point of a team that will feature five rookies taken in the first round of the NBA draft.
Porter was third behind three-time MVP Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray in scoring in Denver last season, averaging 18.2 points on 50.4% shooting from the field and 39.5% from 3-point range.
“He’s an elite shooter … great rebounder and great cutter,” said Fernandez, who was a member of the Denver coaching staff in Porter’s first four seasons in the league. “The good thing is I have a previous relationship with him, and that makes it a little easier for me. But I am going to ask him to do things he’s never done before, and for those reasons I think he’s up for the challenge.”
The Brooklyn newcomer recalled stepping up his offensive game while playing pickup in the summer whenever Jokic and Murray were not on the floor and saw how he could flourish in a primary role with the Nets.
And he is willing to share the spotlight with Cam Thomas, who led Brooklyn with 24 points per game while being limited to 25 games last season due to a left hamstring injury.
As a restricted free agent, the 6-4 guard and his agent were unable to land the long-term deal they were seeking and settled for a one-year qualifying offer for $6 million.
“He is one guy that has been severely underappreciated in his ability to put a team on his back and score the ball,” Porter said. “I experienced it in Denver when we played the Nets. Cam, he’s a tough cover.”
Nets general manager Sean Marks was impressed with Thomas’ offseason work ethic as the team looks to rebound after finishing 26-56 and missing the postseason for the second consecutive year.
“He’s approached this in a very mature manner,” Marks said of the negotiations with Thomas. “That’s part of the business, maybe the ugly part of the business when you can’t find a common ground. But at the same time he’s developed, and the hours he’s put in the gym, not in here but on his own, speak volumes. So, he’s a Net. He knows that.”
