This had always been the plan.

From the day the Warriors signed Seth Curry to play alongside his older brother Stephen Curry for the first time professionally, it was made clear that the Warriors were eventually going to cut and waive Curry, only to re-sign him a month or two later. That cut came on Saturday.

Team finances and the tax aprons drove this. The Warriors are hard-capped at the second apron (because they used the taxpayer mid-level exception to sign Al Horford). After agreeing to a new contract with Jonathan Kuminga, then soon after deals for Horford and Deâ€Anthony Melton, the Warriors were bumping up against that cap. One of Seth Curry or Gui Santos had to be waived to get under that hard cap to start the season, and Curry was always the guy going to get the time off (this was clearly communicated with everyone, including Stephen).

The Warriors can re-sign Seth Curry on Nov. 15, when they will have the space to sign a pro-rated minimum contract for the rest of the season. However, the Warriors may wait longer than that, maybe into December, just to give themselves more cushion against the tax apron line.

Seth, 35, shot 45.6% on 3-pointers last season on his way to averaging 6.5 points a game in Charlotte. His shooting and style of play mesh well with the Warriors once they re-sign him, in a month or two.

Indian Cricket Team opener Abhishek Sharma has won the ICC Player of the Month Men award for September 2025. Meanwhile, Indian Womenâ€s Cricket Team star batter Smriti Mandhana has lifted the ICC Womenâ€s Player of the Month award.

Since January 2021, ICC has been awarding the menâ€s and womenâ€s player of the month award to players who have performed exceptionally on the international level in the span of a month. Three players are nominated from both categories.

The nominees and winners are determined by an ICC panel of ex-cricketers and journalists. The public also has a 10% contribution in the process.

Abhishek Sharma and Smriti Mandhana Win ICC POTM

The ICC Player of the Month menâ€s category for September had three nominations, two of which were Indian. The nominees were Abhishek Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav of India, and Zimbabwean batter Brian Bennett.

IcecricNews Banner

Bennett had a fantastic month. First, he was his teamâ€s highest run scorer in a T20I series against Sri Lanka, and then he was the Player of the Series against Namibia. Lastly, in three 2026 T20I World Cup qualifying matches, he made two half-centuries.

The other nominee was Kuldeep Yadav, who played seven matches in the ACC Asia Cup 2025 for the Indian Cricket Team. He was the highest-wicket taker in the tournament, taking 17 in seven games at an amazing average of 9.29 and an economy of just over six.

But it was Abhishek Sharma, the Player of the Tournament in the 2025 Asia Cup, that took home the award. He made the most runs in a T20I Asia Cup, making 314 in seven games at an average of 44.85, making three half-centuries and six games where he scored 30 or over.

But it was his strike rate of 200 across the competition that made him the Player of the Tournament and now the ICC Men Player of the Month for September 2025.Â

An Indian player has won this menâ€s award for three months running. In July 2025, Indiaâ€s Test captain Shubman Gill lifted the award for making 567 runs in three Tests that month at an average of 94.50. Then, in August, Mohammed Siraj, who was named the Player of the Match for the last India vs England Test, was named the ICC Player of the Month.

On the other hand, Smriti Mandhana won the ICC Women Player of the Month for September 2025. This category had a lot more competition among the three nominees, who were Mandha, South Africaâ€s Tazmin Brits, and Pakistanâ€s Sidra Ameen.

Ameen had a solid month on an individual level, making 293 runs in three ODIs against the Proteas, which involved a 150-ball 121* in a losing effort. 110 balls for 122 in a losing effort, and then an unbeaten 50 in the last match of the series, where Sidra took her team to victory.

The other nominee was Tazmin Brits from South Africa, who played in only the first two ODIs against Pakistan but made 272 runs. In the first, she scored 101*, and in the second, she scored a whopping 171*.

But it was Smriti Mandhana who was named the Player of the Month. She too scored many runs, but did so against the best team in the world, Australia.

In three ODIs against the Aussies, Smriti made 58 runs as India lost the game. The Women in Blue won the second game as Mandhana made 117 runs. In the last match of the series, India lost again, but that was despite the veteran batterâ€s 125 in just 63 balls. She was naturally named the Player of the Series and is now the ICC Womenâ€s Player of the Month.

This monthâ€s awards are exceptional for the Indian Cricket Team fans. While 12 different Indians have won this award on 17 different occasions across both categories, it has never happened that an Indian won in the same month in both categories.

Detroit is looking to take another step forward after a breakout last season, during which it secured a top-six seed and returned to the playoffs. A big part of that next step was expected to be an increased role for guard Jaden Ivey, who was having a breakout year for himself until a fibula injury in January limited him to 30 games.

That next step for Ivey is on hold. He has had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to relieve discomfort and he will be re-evaluated in a month, the team announced. The Pistons also said that the injury was “unrelated to the fibula injury suffered last season,†which tracks with Ivey saying at media day he was feeling “100%.†The teamâ€s recovery timeline has Ivey missing at least a dozen games.

Ivey played in one preseason game for a total of 14 minutes, but the pain in his knee worsened as training camp and preseason games wore on, coach J.B. Bickerstaff said before the Pistons†preseason game Thursday.

Ivey averaged 17.6 points while shooting 40.9% from 3, while adding 4.1 rebounds and four assists a game last season before his injury. Ivey was expected to take on a much larger scoring role with Dennis Schroder, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Malik Beasley no longer with the team. With Ivey out, expect more from Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson, plus more scoring responsibilities will fall to Ausar Thompson, Ron Holland and Tobias Harris.

Ivey is also extension eligible as he heads into the final season of his rookie contract (making $10.1 million). The sides could still reach a deal, if not, then Ivey will be a restricted free agent next summer.

Pacers backup point guard T.J. McConnell will miss at least a month due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Indiana’s first preseason game, coach Rick Carlisle said Thursday.

“Not as bad as it could have been, but it’s going to take some time,” Carlisle said.

McConnell sustained his injury during Tuesday night’s preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Pacers made a move to address their depth at point guard Thursday, signing veteran Cameron Payne to a training camp contract. The Pacers waived guard Delon Wright in a corresponding move. Wright also left the Pacers’ preseason opener early due to a head injury.

McConnell, 33, averaged 9.1 points and 4.4 assists last season in 79 games. He averaged 9.5 points and 4 assists in 23 playoff games to help the Pacers reach the NBA Finals.

The Pacers were already short-handed at point guard with All-Star Tyrese Haliburton sidelined for the season because of a torn Achilles he suffered in the Pacers’ Game 7 Finals loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Andrew Nembhard will start at point guard this season in Haliburton’s absence.

The Pacers open the regular season on Oct. 23 against the Thunder in a rematch of the Finals.

The nominees list for the menâ€s and womenâ€s ICC Player of the Month awards for September 2025 has been released. Today, we will discuss and speculate upon who will win these awards.

The three-man list of nominated players for the menâ€s POTM award is Indiaâ€s Abhishek Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav, and Zimbabweâ€s Brian Bennett.

Meanwhile, the womenâ€s nominees list includes Indiaâ€s Smriti Mandhana, Pakistanâ€s Sidra Amin, and South Africaâ€s Tazmin Brits.

Who Will Win ICC Player of the Month September Award?

Who Will Be Menâ€s Player Of The Month?

But who are the favourites to win these awards? Letâ€s check out the menâ€s nominations. First up, Brian Bennett. The Zimbabwean opening batter had a very productive September. First came a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, where he scored 113 runs in three matches, including a fantastic 81 in the first game.

Demo

Then, in a three-T20I series against Namibia, Bennett scored a 95 and a 40, being named the Player of the Series. Then, finally, in the three matches of the 2026 T20 World Cup qualifiers, all of which Zimbabwe won, Brian scored 72, 65, and 11 against Uganda, Botswana, and Tanzania, respectively.

Second on the list is Abhishek Sharma, who was Indiaâ€s best player in the ACC Asia Cup 2025. The swashbuckling opener played seven matches in the competition, scoring six 30+ scores and three 50s. His 314 runs in seven games at a strike rate of 200 saw Sharma become the Player of the Tournament of the Asia Cup.

The last, but certainly not the least, player in the ICC Player of the Month menâ€s nominees list is Kuldeep Yadav, who too had an excellent Asia Cup 2025. The left-arm wrist-spinner took 17 wickets in seven games at an awesome average of 9.29. Kuldeep saved his best performance for the final, where he bowled a brilliant spell of 4/30 against Pakistan.

So, who will win the Menâ€s Player of the Month award for September 2025? While Brian Bennett had the most productive month, and Kuldeep was by far the best-performing bowler in the Asia Cup, Abhishek Yadav is by far the favourite to win this award. This is because he had what is being considered by many the best campaign for a batter in a T20 Asia Cup competition.

Who Will Be Womenâ€s Player Of The Month?

Now, letâ€s shift our attention to the womenâ€s award, and the competition is much tighter here. The first nominee here is star Indian batter Smriti Mandhana. Smriti had an excellent month of September, in which she played four official matches. First was a three-match ODI series against Australia. In the first match, she scored 58 runs, while in the second, she scored a ton and led the Indian Womenâ€s Cricket Team to a 102-run lead.

In the last match of the series, Smriti scored the second-fastest century in Womenâ€s ODIs, doing so in just 50 deliveries. Despite that, India failed to chase a mammoth target of 413. Then, finally, in the first match of the Womenâ€s World Cup 2025, she had her only underwhelming match of the month, scoring just eight runs. This means that in four matches in September, Smriti Mandhana scored 308 runs and made two centuries and a half-century.

The next two batters are quite connected in their nomination. Pakistanâ€s Sidra Ameen and South Africaâ€s Tazmin Brits played only three and two matches this month, respectively, all of which were against each otherâ€s teams. First, letâ€s discuss Ameen, who, in the three ODIs against the Proteas, scored 293 runs. In the first ODI, she made 121* in 150 balls in a losing effort, and then, in the second match, she made 122 off 110 in another loss.

Finally, in her third and final match of the series, Sidra scored 50* in a small chase to take her team to their only win in the series.

Meanwhile, in the same series, Tazmin Brits played only two games but scored a whopping 272 runs. In the first match of the series, she scored an unbeaten 101 and took her team to victory. Then, in the second match, the Brits†massive 171* took South Africa to a match and series win. And so, despite missing the third match, Tazmin was named the Player of the Series.

So, who will be named the ICC Womenâ€s Player of the Month for September 2025? First, as harsh as it is for not winning any Player of the Match awards this month, Sidra Ameen is the least favourite to win this award, despite averaging over 100 this month.

This means it comes down to Smriti Mandhana and Tazmin Brits. And practically, it’s a toss-up between the two. Both of them won the Player of the Match award once and were named the Player of the Series. And while Brits had a more impressive month statistically, Smriti too scored 300 runs in three matches, and that too against a powerhouse like Australia. So naturally, either of the two can win this award.

Nashville Predators fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief as forward Luke Evangelista has signed a new contract.

Friday it was reported by Frank Seravalli that Evangelista signed a two-year, $6 million contract, ending a three-month-long saga between the two parties. He was one of three restricted free agents left in the league that had not signed a contract for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

Evangelista has been seen as the Predators “future” according to Trotz. Last season, the 23-year-old scored 32 points in 68 games, a second straight season where Evangelista rattled off 30 plus points.

His production has climbed over the last three seasons and is poised for a breakout year. Evangelista was drafted 42nd overall in the 2020 NHL Draft out of the London Knights (OHL).

In July, Evangelista was extended a qualifying offer, but did not sign before the original offer had expired on July 15. Trotz said on July 1 that both parties were trying to determine the term of the contract, as the Predators wanted to extend it longer and Evangelista did not.

There were no updates until the start of training camp when Trotz said that trading Evangelista was is “not even a thought.” Evangelista did not report to training camp due to the contract disputes and ended up going back home to Toronto.

Throughout training camp, reports came forward that both parties with still far a part as the start of the regular season drew closer and closer.

However, both parties were able to reach an agreement at the eleventh hour. Despite the delay, this is a big confidence booster for the Predators’ front office to keep Evangelista in Nashville.

The Predators kick off the regular season on Oct. 9 against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Bridgestone Arena at 7 p.m. CST.

Gavin Williams posted a career-high-tying 12 strikeouts and Daniel Schneemann drove in two runs Tuesday as the host Cleveland Guardians rallied for a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers to forge a tie atop the American League Central.

The AL Central race could be seen as an epic comeback by the Guardians or a huge meltdown from the Tigers, depending on your allegiances. The Tigers had led the division since 23 April and had a 10-game lead over Cleveland as recently as 6 September. But the Guardians have the best record in MLB this month (17-5) while the Tigers have lost seven straight games and 10 of their last 11.

Williams allowed two runs on four hits and walked only two to outduel Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, who gave up three runs (one earned) on four hits while fanning eight and walking three.

It was a shaky outing for Skubal, who has been excellent for most of the season. After he hit Clevelandâ€s David Fry in the face with a pitch, he looked shaken and threw a wild pitch to George Valera, who replaced Fry, allowing Cleveland to score. Skubal also had an error – he inexplicably tried to make a blind throw to first between his legs – and was also called for a balk in the sixth inning as the Guardians rallied for three runs to take a 3-2 lead without hitting a ball out of the infield.

“We did a lot of uncharacteristic things, and itâ€s hurting us,†Tigers manager AJ Hinch said after the game.

Fry was taken to a local hospital for observation after being hit by the 99 mph pitch and Skubal admitted the incident had affected him.

“Really tough,†said the left-hander. “Iâ€ve already reached out to him. Iâ€m sure his phone is blowing up. I just want to make sure heâ€s all right. Obviously, he seemed like he was OK coming off the field and hopefully it stays that way.â€

With the victory, the Guardians now have a better head-to-head record against the Tigers this season and own the tiebreaker over Detroit should the teams finish joint-first in the division.

“I feel like weâ€ve been this way for a couple of series now,†Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler said. “Itâ€s not quite pressing but we definitely feel some of the pressure and weâ€ve got to mitigate it. Weâ€ve got to eliminate it. Weâ€ve still got to find ways to stay loose, focus in and hone in on what we need to do and go out there and do it.â€

The teams play each other again on Wednesday and Thursday before the Tigers complete their season with a series against the Red Sox and the Guardians face the Rangers.

On 15 September 2025, Mohammed Siraj was named as the ICC Menâ€s Player of the Month for August 2025. He earned the award for his match-winning performance in the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval. Siraj took 9 wickets in the match at an average of 21.11, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings. His efforts helped India win that Test match and level the series 2-2.Â

Siraj bowled 46 overs in that match and was also named Player of the Match. He was Indiaâ€s leading wicket-taker in the series with 23 wickets across five tests, including two five-wicket hauls. He beat New Zealandâ€s Matt Henry and West Indies†Jayden Seales to win the monthly award.

Siraj called the honor special and said the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was one of the most intense series he had played. He credited his teammates and support staff for their belief and encouragement. His performance also pushed him to a career-best ranking in the ICC Menâ€s Test Bowler Rankings. Sachin Tendulkar also praised him, saying his contributions were crucial and often unappreciated.

Why is Mohammed Siraj not playing in the Asia Cup 2025

Siraj is not playing in the Asia Cup 2025 because the selectors did not include him in Indiaâ€s squad. Even though he was Indiaâ€s top wicket-taker in the recent England Test series, the pace attack for the Asia Cup was already set with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh as first-choice bowlers. The third pace option was decided between Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna, which left no room for Siraj.

Demo

The selectors might also have wanted to give Siraj some rest because of his busy schedule across all three formats in recent months. Hardik Pandya was also included as an all-rounder who also contributes with the ball, reducing the need for another pacer in the Indian squad. Veteran Mohammed Shami was also left out for the same reason.

The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be played in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 9 to 28. Former Indian cricketer Chetan Sharma said the squad would reflect the best of Indian cricket and backed the team to win the tournament.
