SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)…
I have a Mercedes Mone promo in the article this week, but it’s not the one you saw on Dynamite this week. This is a pop quiz to see who watched Collision this week because if you didnâ€t, your lasting image of Mone is her in the ring covered in cake. In my opinion, the promo she cut on Collision is what she should have done on Dynamite this week.
The more I thought about the Willow Nightingale celebration segment this week the more I didnâ€t like it. I even went back and watched it again and on the second watch it worked even less for me. Iâ€m just not sure why this had to be played as a comedy angle, from the entrance when Harley Cameron and Kris Statlander couldnâ€t get their party poppers to go off to Mercedes Mone covered in cake (again) by the end of the segment. Donâ€t even get me started on the conga line they did at the end either.
Willow Nightingale just beat Mercedes Mone for the TBS Title after she was the reigning champ for 500-plus days. I just donâ€t understand why that should be celebrated in a comedy segment. I thought Willow was kind of awful on the mic this week and – as someone described it during the Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Post-show – “Substitute Teacher, Willow†was back in class. Give me the Willow who cut that awesome promo on FTR a few months ago, not the annoying substitute teacher who is trying to keep up with the actual teacherâ€s lesson plan. Roll in the TV on that metal cart we all know and love growing up in public schools and put on a movie.
Imagine how this segment goes if Willow comes out and cuts a serious promo about overcoming Mone and how it was a defining moment in her career. Then you have Mercedes come out (who looked great, by the way; the veil she had over her face was incredible) and have her look at Willow and cut the same exact promo she cut on Collision (see below), but in the ring. Now you are leaving people with an, “Oh god, what is Mone going to do when she comes back?†rather than just have her lying in a ring covered in cake.
I would guess more than half of the AEW regular audience didnâ€t even see her promo on Collision and thatâ€s a mistake. It was the same type of promo that MJF cut before he left for his hiatus a few months ago and everyone praised it and it made the anticipation for his return even more palpable. I donâ€t think this Mone spiral should be treated as a comedy angle. I thought Mone falling into another cake was lazy writing. So…
Mercedes Mone – Collision 1/10/26
It goes without saying, but I highly suggest you go watch the promo that Mone cut on Collision this week. It is one of the best promos sheâ€s had since sheâ€s been in AEW. She has a line at the beginning: “Heroes donâ€t build divisions. Icons do. I am undeniable.†What a cold-blooded line.
Now imagine her hitting Willow with that line in the ring and then Willow could react to that by responding on the mic or having her use her facial expressions to tell the story.
Mone also talks about how she “elevated†the division and that she is going to take a break from the division to show everyone just how much she elevated it. Mone also talks about how when she comes back, she is going to start collecting more than just titles.
Mercedes Mone is coming back to snatch peopleâ€s souls, and I am here for it. I thought her tone was perfect in this promo and it really got me hyped for her return. I have always been a fan of Mercedes in-ring skills, but was never really a fan of her mic work or acting abilities. I think this last month, beginning with her backstage promo at Worldâ€s End, Mone has really elevated her mic work and acting skills.

MJF (AEW World Heavyweight Champion) and Bandido – Dynamite 1/7/26
Another strong week for MJF on the mic and another week of him scaling back the “open mic night” insults. Bandido also played his part extremely well in this segment and it really elevated the excitement I have for this match next week.
Iâ€d be lying if I said I wasnâ€t nervous when MJF walked out with a translator, but I thought it just all worked perfectly. The only misstep I would say would be MJF awkwardly holding onto the ropes with his ass in the air for too long so he could take the 21 Plex. It would have been so much easier and a better visual to just find a way to have Bandido clock MJF with the Dynamite Diamond ring.
MJF calling himself a “Lucha Libre Legend†and telling Bandido he was going to “put in a good word with Tony Khan for you, kid†was so good. They missed a merchandise idea by not selling MJF “Lucha Libre Legend†t-shirts, if you ask me.
I also thought they had a great shot of Bandido while MJF was talking to him, and you could see the intensity in Bandidoâ€s eyes as MJF was running him down. I thought Bandido did such a good job just telling a story with his eyes in this segment.
The translator gimmick made me worried at first, but I thought they absolutely nailed it, and Bandido telling MJF “I speak English, you stupid son of a bitch†was just a perfect ending to this segment.
MJF just does so many small things that you donâ€t notice on a first watch like when he simply said to the translator “translate my friend.†Calling someone your “friend†while you order them to do something is just something a dick like MJF would do. Iâ€m really excited about this match, and Iâ€m also excited to see how the Dynamite Diamond ring comes into play which we all know it will.
It looks like MJF is finally on his way back to AEW, and heâ€s not coming back empty-handed.
Bryan Alvarez dropped a major update on Wrestling Observer Live, confirming that Maxwell Jacob Friedman has wrapped up his film commitments and is expected to return as early as next weekâ€s AEW Dynamite—just in time for the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal at Holiday Bash in Manchester on December 17, 2025. Alvarez didnâ€t leave much room for doubt when it comes to MJFâ€s participation in the Battle Royal, where the former World Champion has been untouchable for years:
“Now, the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal has been taking place for what, five years now. And every single year, the winner of that ends up being MJF,†Alvarez said. “Nobody else has ever won the ring. So, I canâ€t say 1000% that MJF is going to be in that match, but I mean, MJFâ€s going to be in that match. He has no film commitments at this moment.â€
Even more interesting—MJF has already been spotted backstage at AEW shows. Alvarez confirmed:
“In fact, he has actually been backstage. I donâ€t know how many times, but he has been backstage at least once recently. And, they tried to keep it lowkey, but he has been there. So, heâ€s returning.â€
And when it comes to the AEW World Championship picture? MJF is still very much in the mix. Alvarez reminded listeners that Friedman still holds the contract that guarantees him a future title match.
“Of course, he has the briefcase (contract) or whatever to get the championship match. So, conceivably, he could also be in that Worldâ€s End four-way main event for the title or how many people it is,†Alvarez explained. “So I presume heâ€ll make his return for the Battle Royal, then weâ€ll see what happens with the Worlds End main event.â€
MJF hasnâ€t been seen in action since after his surprise loss to Mark Briscoe at All Out 2025, but with the Dynamite Diamond ring on the line and the Worlds End main event looming, his return could shake up AEWâ€s landscape fast.
Do you think MJF walks back into AEW and takes the Diamond Ring for the sixth straight year—or is he coming for that World Title next? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know where you stand.
December 11, 2025 11:10 pm
A major update on MJF’s long-awaited AEW return and a future World title shot has emerged.
MJF is expected to return to AEW as early as next weekâ€s Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal, with Bryan Alvarez reporting on Thursdayâ€s Wrestling Observer Live that the former World Champion has completed his film commitments and has also been backstage at AEW events. His return could also position him for a potential World Championship opportunity at Worlds End.
Alvarez added that Friedman is strongly expected to appear in the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal in Manchester during AEW Holiday Bash on December 17th, 2025, where he has historically dominated the competition.
“Now, the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal has been taking place for what, five years now. And every single year, the winner of that ends up being MJF,” Alvarez stated. “Nobody else has ever won the ring. So, I canâ€t say 1000% that MJF is going to be in that match, but I mean, MJF’s going to be in that match. He has no film commitments at this moment.”
Alvarez also revealed that MJF has quietly been backstage at recent AEW shows, “In fact, he has actually been backstage. I don’t know how many times, but he has been backstage at least once recently. And, they tried to keep it lowkey, but he has been there. So, heâ€s returning.”
Regarding a possible World Title angle, Alvarez added that MJF still holds the contract guaranteeing him a championship match.
“Of course, he has the briefcase(contract) or whatever to get the championship match. So, conceivably, he could also be in that World’s End four-way main event for the title or how many people it is,” he said. “So I presume he’ll make his return for the Battle Royal, then we’ll see what happens with the Worlds End main event.”
MJF was last seen losing to Mark Briscoe at All Out 2025.

AEW DYNAMITE TV REPORT
NOVEMBER 25, 2020
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. AT DAILYâ€S PLACE
AIRED LIVE ON TNT
REPORT BY WADE KELLER, PWTORCH EDITOR
Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur
Ring Announcer: Justin Roberts
[HOUR ONE]
-The Dynamite opening theme aired. Then they panned cheering clusters of fans as Ross, Schiavone, and Excalibur introduced the show.
(1) “HANGMAN†ADAM PAGE vs. JOHN SILVER (w/Dark Order)
Page came out first. They aired snippets of Pageâ€s prior interactions in the ring and behind the scenes with Dark Order. Then as Silver came out, an inset interview aired with Dark Order, sans Brodie Lee. Evil Uno said they requested this match. Silver said Page is a good guy, and they requested this match, but predicted a win.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: Itâ€s good to see a little table-setting for the match, but I donâ€t think itâ€s a great strategy to open Dynamite with a lower-end match-up like this and no teasers for whatâ€s to come later. If you start with a red-hot match-up between stars, thatâ€s one thing, but if not, I think itâ€s important early to get people invested in and excited about the bigger segments and matches.)
Silver offered a fist-bump with Page, but Page said no. Schiavone said Silver has become somewhat of a sensation on the Internet, but he thinks heâ€s demented. Ross noted that Page came out without an alcoholic beverage. Silver scored a near fall after a huracanrana roll-up several minutes in. He continued to rally including a brainbuster suplex for a two count. Page came back with a Liger Bomb and a Buckshot Lariat for the win. Excalibur said Page needs to rebuild after losing the World Title Eliminator final, and this is a good first step.
WINNER: Page in 9:00.
-After the match, the rest of Dark Order came out to the ring. Evil Uno addressed Page. He said they have immense regrets over many things they have done. He said Page was part of a group that wouldnâ€t let him leave when he wanted to, “and if thatâ€s not a cult, I donâ€t know what is.†He said he and his friends are there for him. Schiavone said, “Wow, that sounds pretty sincere.†Excalibur called it a “compelling offer for the lonesome dove, so to speak.â€
-They went to the announcers on camera. They hyped the advertised matches.
-Alex Marvez interviewed Kenny Omega backstage about last weekâ€s contract signing situation. Omega said heâ€s had a lot of time to reflect. He said the more things change, the more they stay the same. He said a year ago, he was nursing injuries he incurred from Jon Moxley. He said he lost, and he can admit it. He said now present time, theyâ€re about to do the dance again, but now he sees Moxleyâ€s face on the cover of magazines and people are calling him the best. He said now the Best Bout Machine and The Cleaner is back. He said he is the true best in the world. He said for a year he has scratched and clawed his way back to the top. He said it isnâ€t until he gets Moxleyâ€s title when people consider him the best. He offered a gentlemanâ€s challenge: “For one night only, dammit, please leave the garbage wrestling at home. No tables, no chairs, no garbage cans, no thumbtacks. If you want to be the best, beat me in the middle of the ring. Pin me, submit me, choke me out, but do it based on your ability.†He said heâ€ll be waiting for him in the ring, “so letâ€s sign that contract.†He congratulated him and Renee on the news that theyâ€re expecting their first child together, and he said that childhood story he told tugged at his heartstrings and he believed every part of it. He said he doesnâ€t think his dad was all that tough, though, and he thinks his dad “would have beat the shit out of your dad.â€
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: Now weâ€re getting somewhere with Omegaâ€s character. I like his condescending tone and baked-in arrogance.)
-The announcers hyped Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Cody Rhodes & Darby Allin. (They listed him as Cody Rhodes, not just Cody, by the way.) [c]
-A video aired of Darby settling an abandoned junk car on fire as he held his TNT Title. He spray painted “Survive if I let you†on the root of the car before setting it on fire. Then he said, “Now the fun part, Team Taz, survive if I let you.â€
(2) POWERHOUSE HOBBS (wTaz) vs. LEE JOHNSON
They replayed Hobbs turning heel on Cody last week. Taz joined the announcers on commentary. The crowd chanted, “You sold out!†at Hobbs. Hobbs eyed some wrestlers at ringside taunting him. He looked at them and said it was just business. Hobbs tossed Johnson into the security barricade at ringside, then threw him back into the ring and finished him with a powerslam. Taz said he demands anger and a mean streak, and Hobbs has all of them.
WINNER: Hobbs in 3:00.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: Heâ€s leaning way too much on the snarl with his mouth and itâ€s seeming cartoonish, but overall his body language and demeanor is a big contrast to his smiling babyface persona.)
-Taz entered the ring and congratulated Hobbs, then sent him to the back. Taz said AEW is not acknowledging the FTW Title. He said heâ€s sick and tired of the lifestyle that belt represents not being recognized. He said heâ€s not leaving the ring until someone from management comes out and acknowledges the legacy of the belt. He said thereâ€s a reason tough bastards hold it. His mic got cut mid-sentence. Schiavone said heâ€s hijacked the show. Taz ordered Justin Roberts to present him with the mic. Ross said Justin almost had a heart attack. Justin handed him in the mic. Taz said if they cut that mic, heâ€s going to grab a headset at ringside instead. The mic got cut. Schiavone said Tony Khan has instructed them to cut him off.
Cody Rhodes stepped onto the stage with a headset on. He walked out and said Taz is done, so give him a round of applause. Cody entered the ring and said he is coming there out of total respect. He said heâ€s wasting time. He said next week they can leave it in the ring. He asked if heâ€s happy with that. Taz said next week, the same thing is going to happen that happened last week – “you and Darby are getting whipped.†He said he wants “one of you management people†to give the FTW Title the respect it deserves. “Iâ€m tired of this shit,†he said. Cody said someone from management is here, and heâ€s going to “run it up the flagpole†for him. Taz asked, “What are you going to say next, creative has something for me, any more of that corporate bullshit, wish me best of luck in my future endeavors?â€
Cody had left the ring, but then he reentered and raised his voice and intensity. He said Tazâ€s son is training to be a pro wrestler, so why is training with him instead of Taz, his dad. Taz dropped the mic and said he canâ€t believe he did that. He said heâ€s shocked and heâ€s pathetic and went too far and that was stupid. Cody dropped his mic and called them for them cut the cameras. Taz choked out Cody from behind. Billy and Austin Gunn entered the ring, so Taz jumped out of the ring. Tazâ€s son was with him, carrying the FTW Title with him.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: There were some good moments there, but I have such difficulty enjoying anything where an active wrestlers is talked about as also being in management. I see no upside, and it leads to convoluted segments like this. The idea weâ€re supposed to believe Cody broke script or went too far didnâ€t work when it was “the cool thing for new-age bookers†in 2000-2005, but itâ€s really unworkable now. Fans just want a good consistent story in the AEW universe, not some pseudo-layered segment where viewers are being asked to play along with the idea that something “got more real than it was supposed to.†Iâ€d do away with any references to wrestlers being EVP and just tell wrestling stories, not insider meta fourth-wall breaking stuff that its target audience is too savvy to buy into and thus feels insulted it was even attempted.) [c]
-They went to the announcers on camera who commented on the Taz-Cody angle.
-Marvez interviewed Eddie Kingston backstage about Pac & Rey Fenix battling his guys Butcher & Blade later. Kingston said heâ€s not mad, heâ€s just disappointed. He said he expected it from Fenix, who likes to jump and flip around the ring. Moxley walked in as Kingston began mouthing off about Pac. He stared at Kingston. “You know it wasnâ€t me,†Kingston said. “Iâ€ve got my own stuff to handle. You know who it was. Youâ€ve got your own stuff to handle, champ.†Mox stared intensely at him, assessed what he said and how much he believed him, and then he turned and left.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: Moxley showed how and when to chew gum and still look cool instead of dickish.)
(3) TOP FLIGHT (Dante & Darius Martin) vs. TH2 (Jack Evans & Angelico)
Before the match, they showed TH2 attacking Top Flight unprovoked last week, and then last night on Dark, Top Flight attacked TH2. As TH2 made their entrance, they cut to a soundbite of Evans saying itâ€s time to yank other teams who have shoved them into the dark by the hair and remind them of exactly who they are. Angelico began against Darius. They cut to a break at 2:00. [c]
Darius hot-tagged in and rallied after the break. Angelico saved Evans from being pinned a couple minutes later. They fought back and forth, with TH2 taking over with some near falls of their own. Ross said TH2 are two veterans who want to get back in the hunt, and the other team is in their second match ever on Dynamite. Eventually Angelico got a tapout from Dante.
WINNERS: TH2 in 12:00.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: Itâ€s good to see TH2 get some TV time. Theyâ€re talented and a good second-tier team to agitate and feud with a rising team like Top Flight. I have no issue with Top Flight losing here, as TH2 need some credibility if theyâ€re going to try to weave them into Dynamiteâ€s tag team mix, and Top Flight are on a journey and early losses after putting up a good fight is part of that.)
-The Jacksons ran out for the save when TH2 refused to break and then stomped away at Top Flight.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: Back to the basics, that run-in establishes the Bucks are babyfaces. My mantra for AEWâ€s booking that Iâ€d post everywhere backstage is “Fault on the side of the basic, keep things simple.†Lean on the wrestlers personalities being enough without being overwritten or ironic or too-clever-by-half or insider or shocking.)
-The announcers reacted. Ross said it looks like Top Flight have some pretty good mentors now.
-Backstage, Vickie Guerrero with Nyla Rose, spoke about nepotism. She said Brandi Rhodes is an example. They showed a clip of Jay Cargill injuring Brandiâ€s arm. She said it appears Brandiâ€s business plan is set up for failure. She said if she needs advice, call her. She cackled. Rose joined in.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: That was Vickieâ€s best promo to date. She didnâ€t rely on “excuse me,†which just feels like left over WWE drivel that was driven into the ground. That was just a good, sufficiently and appropriately annoying heel promo.)
-FTR and Tully Blanchard said they might have had what wrestling journalists called one of the best matches in history, but it was one of the worst nights of their careers because they lost. Dax said he needs the AEW Tag Team Titles. Tully said it is their destiny to hold the belts. He vowed theyâ€d regain the titles.
[HOUR TWO]
(4) CHRIS JERICHO & JAKE HAGER (w/MJF, Wardlow, Santana, Ortiz, Sammy Guevera) vs. SCU (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian)
The crowd sang Jerichoâ€s song and he seemed, as usual, to really appreciate it. MJF, Wardlow, Santana, and Ortiz swarmed Daniels at ringside as they cut to a break a few minutes in. [c]
Daniels hit the BME for a two count on Hager, broken up by Jericho. When Kaz entered, the ref turned to him. Then MJF used his diamond ring to stop it. Jericho then hit the Judas Effect. Hager then made the cover for the win.
WINNERS: Jericho & Hager in 11:00.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: Jericho seemed to see MJF interfere, so theyâ€re not playing up the idea heâ€s not into cheating, despite being on a path to an official babyface turn against MJF.)
-After the match, Kaz attacked MJF. The Inner Circle attacked Kaz and Daniels as a result. Scorpio Sky ran out with a chair to clear the ring of the heels, who fled immediately. Jericho yelled at him from ringside.
-Kip Sabian, along with Penelope Ford and Miro, stood backstage for a “new segment.†Kip called it “The Miro & Kip Video Game Extravaganza.†In walked Orange Cassidy who reset the video game system. That led to a fight outside their trailer including Best Friends. Miro yelled at the camera guy and grabbed him to move out of the way.
-Excalibur announced thereâ€d be a Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal next week.
-They showed Moxley on the ground last week with a bloody nose. The announcers said it seemed Moxley believed Kingston claim that he wasnâ€t involved.
-Schiavone stood mid-ring and introduced Kenny Omega first. Justin Roberts touted his credentials, including four references to the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame. Two women came out with brooms, as usual, and 1980s jazzercise leotards. The silhouette of Omega showed the silhouette of Moxley attacking him. He beat him up and dragged him to the ring. He stood on Omegaâ€s hand, then gave him a Paradigm Shift onto the AEW Title belt. Moxley asked for the mic from Schiavone. He then said , regarding Omegaâ€s “Gentlemanâ€s Agreement,†he doesnâ€t know who Omega hired to take him out last week, but they did a piss-poor job because heâ€s still walking. He said he knows some guys from Philadelphia looking for work if Omega needs a better option next time.
Moxley said he thought their beef was squashed a week ago, but then he had to go and piss him off. He said not to worry, and consider them even. He said thereâ€s only way to become AEW World Champion, and that is to dig deep into his guts and find the Kenny Omega everyone thinks he is so he can climb a mountain and beat him. He said in one week, itâ€ll be the biggest match in AEW history. He said the two best wrestlers on the planet battle. “God, I love this shit! Win, lose, or draw, winter is coming for you, Kenny.†He said this is not a game and jokes on BTE and dancing girls with brooms wonâ€t help him. He told him he doesnâ€t take prisoners, so steady his hand and aim and take his shot because heâ€ll only get one. Mox then signed the contract.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: More great work from Mox.) [c]
-Marvez interviewed Inner Circle backstage. MJF yelled about what kind of man sucker-punches another man. Jericho said they won fair and square, and as he promised last week, the fun and games for Inner Circle are over and they are going back to beating the hell out of everyone in AEW. He said next week, heâ€s going to make Kazarian famous as theyâ€ll have their first-time ever one-on-one match. He said he will get revenge on him for putting his hands on MJF. He said next week, itâ€s all over.
-A video package aired on Hikura Shida vs. Anna Jay. Jay said she was inexperienced when she first met Shida, but now she has a whole army behind her. Tay Conti touted Jayâ€s martial arts background. Shida said what Jay needs isnâ€t the belt, itâ€s more heart.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: Nicely done. It set the stage by showing each of their personalities.)
(5) HIKARU SHIDA vs. ANNA JAY (w/Jay Conti) – AEW Womenâ€s Title match
Three members of Dark Order stood on the stage and watched. They cut to a break a couple minutes in, but stayed with the action on split-screen. [c/ss]
Shida eventually finished Jay with a running knee for the win.
WINNER: Shida in 9:00 to retain the AEW Womenâ€s Title.
-Shida celebrated on the stage with her belt. Abadon then crawled onto the stage. Shida collapsed in fright and crawled backward (because it worked so well for Seth Rollins when faced with The Fiend). Abadon grabbed the belt and licked it. Schiavone said sheâ€s making it clear sheâ€s taken aim at Shida.
-Matt Hardy spoke from backstage. He said 2020 has been a tough year, and considering his super stardom, he wanted to show everyone how to battle through it. He said if he can overcome his insurmountable odds, they can overcome their pedestrian challenges at home. He said when youâ€re ready to give up, ask what Matt would do. “Survive, thrive, win.†He let out a creepy wide-eyed smile.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: Whatever Matt does, as long as he sticks with it for a year, I promise to endorse it.)
-The announcers hyped next weekâ€s matches.
-Ricky Starks, Brian Cage, and Hobbs stood backstage. Starks said Taz left in a rage. He said Tony Khan pays them well and puts them in big main event matches. He said his problem is with Cody. He said his “paper-thin ego seems to get in the way.†He blamed Cody for wanting Tazâ€s mic cut because he didnâ€t want Taz to talk about Cody losing his belt. He said now heâ€s made it personal, and next week he and Hobbs are coming to bust heads. Cage said theyâ€re the most dominant force in wrestling. “Who betta?†he asked.
-Schiavone announced Brit Baker vs. Leyla Hirsch.
-Butcher & Blade their ring entrance along with Kingston and Bunny. [c]
(6) REY FENIX & PAC (w/Penta) vs. BUTCHER & BLADE (w/Bunny, Kingston)
Kingston joined the announcers on commentary. Kingston said heâ€s ready to take Schiavoneâ€s spot. The teams met on the ramp and brawled before the bell. After several minutes of hard-hitting back and forth fighting, Fenix landed a nice spinning hook kick on Butcher, but Butcher swatted him out of mid-air on a cutter attempt. With all four wrestlers down on the mat, they cut to a break, but stayed with the action on split-screen. [c/ss]
Back from the break, Blade was in control of Fenix. Ross underlined the magnitude of next weekâ€s Omega vs. Moxley match. Pac tagged in and went rapid-fire on Blade. Butcher and Blade took over against Pac. Butcher dropped Pac over Bladeâ€s knee. Blade then gave Pac a gut-wrench sitout powerbomb for a near fall, with Fenix breaking up the cover (although Pacâ€s shoulders were still down and the ref easily could have just finished counting to three instead of “rewarding†the outside save from the illegal man). Fenix tagged in and took out Blade. Butcher and Pac brawled at ringside. Kingston ran to the ring and knocked Rey off the top rope. Blade gave Fenix a neckbreaker with help from Butcher to add extra elevation, which led to the three count.
WINNERS: Butcher & Blade in 13:00.
(Kellerâ€s Analysis: Good match.)
-Afterward, the heel threesome beat up Death Triangle. When Bunny grabbed a chair, Schiavone told someone to take the chair away “from that lady.†He then said, “That maniac.†Kingston lifted Pacâ€s dead weight and DDTâ€d him onto a chair. “What is wrong with Pac!?†exclaimed Schiavone. Lance Archer charged to the ring and actually attacked Blade. Blade landed on his head when Archer dove at him. Kingston and Butcher attacked Archer, but he bound off the ropes and knocked them both down. Jake Roberts joined him in the ring. Archer set up a chokeslam, but Butcher broke it up. Fenix and Penta joined in to fight back.
WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart might have ruffled some feathers as he just admitted that he has no idea who MJF is.
While speaking to Johnny I Pro Show, Bret Hart stated that if the Montreal Screwjob had never happened and he stayed in WWE, he likely would have ended up working with John Cena.
“Boy, if the Screwjob had never happened and I had stayed in WWF, that match with John Cena wouldâ€ve happened. We wouldâ€ve done amazing stuff together. Iâ€ve always been really impressed by John Cena.â€
Afterwards, a fan suddenly shouted out MJFâ€s name. Bret Hart then literally asked who MJF was. After being told heâ€s an AEW wrestler, Hart claimed that he doesnâ€t watch much wrestling anymore, explaining why he wasnâ€t familiar with him.
“Who? MJF? Who is that? — Just curious though, who is it? — AEW wrestler? — As you can tell, I donâ€t watch a lot anymore.â€
Whether Bret Hart meant it seriously or was just trying to get a reaction, his comment has already gotten fans talking online. MJF is viewed as one of the best heels right now, and the idea of a modern star not being recognized by a legend like Hart is obviously something that will anger a lot of people in the end. So weâ€ll have to see if MJF responds to what Bret Hart had to say in the end.
Do you believe Bret Hart truly doesnâ€t know who MJF is? Or was he taking a sly jab at one of AEWâ€s biggest stars? Share your thoughts below.

AEWâ€s about to get a serious injection of star power, with MJF and Swerve Strickland both expected to return to television next month.
According to Self Made Produring a recent Self Made session, the company has already locked in creative plans for both top-tier talents. While AEW has yet to officially confirm the news, Self Made Pro was clear about whatâ€s coming:
“Weâ€re going to get some big returns really soon. Weâ€re going to get two major returns. By—letâ€s see here—by the end of the month, AEW is going to have two major stars back. Weâ€re talking about Swerve and MJF here.â€
He went on to say that Tony Khan already has storylines lined up:
“They have the creative setup for those two guys for December. I expect them to be back by the time weâ€re in December. And again, weâ€ll see how they stagger those returns—thatâ€s up to Tony, and thatâ€s probably something heâ€s kept close to the vest in terms of who heâ€s bringing back and at what point.â€
As for their physical status, both men are ready. Swerve Strickland recently underwent surgery, but heâ€s now cleared:
“Swerve is good to go, by the way.â€
MJF, on the other hand, has wrapped filming for Violent Night 2. His last appearance was at AEW All Out, where he lost to Mark Briscoe—an outcome that shocked fans and left them speculating when heâ€d return.
AEW has been looking for that extra boost to round out the year, and bringing back two of its biggest names could be exactly what they need. With both Swerve and MJF having main event potential, all eyes will be on how Tony Khan chooses to reintroduce them to AEWâ€s weekly programming.
Do you think AEW will pull the trigger on their returns at the same show—or will they stagger them for maximum impact? Drop your thoughts in the comments.

AEW
Former TNA executive Scott D’Amore has asked AEW’s MJF if he is still keen on facing TNA’s Nic Nemeth at his Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling [MLP] promotion.
MJF had challenged Nemeth to a match at MLP, but the bout has yet to take place since the AEW star has seemingly not confirmed his participation. In a recent edition of his “D’Amore Drop” column, D’Amore, the founder of the Canadian promotion, once again posed the question to MJF.
“Speaking of champions appearing at Maple Leaf, it’s been a month since MJF publicly challenged Nick Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler) to face him in MLP. Are we doing this, MJF?” asked D’Amore.
D’Amore, in the column, also dismissed suggestions that TNA had blocked its stars from wrestling in the promotion, noting how TNA World Heavyweight Champion Mike Santana will take part in one of its events, as will other TNA stars like Matt Hardy. MJF and Nemeth have never faced each other in professional wrestling, and if they were to compete in MLP, it would mark their first encounter. MJF has mostly wrestled in AEW, with occasional appearances in indie shows, while Nemeth, on the other hand, has wrestled in TNA and a few indie shows. Neither star has wrestled in D’Amore’s promotion, which began operations last year.Â
MLP is reportedly seeking a deal for a weekly television show, with the promotion aiming to broadcast it primarily in Canada.
WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H†Levesque didnâ€t get a free pass during his post-show appearance at the 2025 WWE Crown Jewel event. As he addressed the audience live, fans took over the segment with chants that were impossible to ignore—even if Triple H tried to.
During his on-camera remarks, the crowd broke out chanting for Edge and even sang his entrance theme, Metalingus, while Triple H continued talking. Despite the interruption, he never addressed the chants or even reacted.
That wasnâ€t the only message fans had for WWE. The chants escalated throughout the segment and included: “We want Edgeâ€, “MJF!â€, “Fck off Saudiâ€* and “We want Maniaâ€
The Edge chants come at an awkward time for WWE. Adam Copeland—better known as Edge—is still under AEW contract and has made it clear in past interviews that he wonâ€t be a free agent anytime soon.
Back in April 2025, Copeland revealed that his AEW deal runs until well into 2026, which shuts down any immediate hopes of a return to WWE programming. Fans clearly havenâ€t given up hope, though. The reaction during Crown Jewel sent a message loud and clear—even if Triple H wasnâ€t ready to answer it.
Do you think Edge will return to WWE before his AEW deal expires, or are fans wasting their energy? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.

CMLL “92ND ANNIVERSARY SHOW” REPORT
SEPTEMBER 19, 2025
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO AT ARENA MEXICO
REPORT BY ZACH BARBER, PWTORCH CONTRIBUTOR
Do not adjust your screens. This isnâ€t my normal beat, but CMLL presented itâ€s 92nd Anniversario show, its equivalent of WrestleMania. For the first time ever they presented the show with an English commentary team so I decided to check it out. Here are my thoughts.
Production:
As I mentioned, this event marked the first time in its history that CMLL offered English commentary for one of its shows. The speculation per Luchablog is that it was a Triller call which is makes sense given tha=t the English commentary was only available on the Triller feed and not on CMLL’s regular YouTube subscription channel which also carried the show.
From the moment the show started, it was apparent that from a technical standpoint the commentary was thrown together. The show began with the commentators (Veda Scott, Samuray del Sol fka Kalisto, and Miguel Castro) literally testing their mics on air. There were audio blackouts that marred the first 15 or so minutes of the show and happened sporadically throughout. I think this was a function of the commentary having to be patched over the actual audio feed of the show.
Initially I thought the ring was mic’d poorly but that may actually have been an issue caused by this weird audio mix. The other major production issue I noticed – also possibly caused by the audio issues – was that the viewing audience couldnâ€t hear the announcer make ring introduction. Samuray del Sol had to do the intros himself.
Commentary:
Veda Scott continues to be the most underrated announcer in the game. The fact that a major promotion hasnâ€t snapped her up is crazy. She worked her ass off as the glue that held this commentary team together. It was evident from the start that this team came in at a deficit having never worked together before. Veda did her homework and competently conveyed the background of each match to the audience. Samuray del Sol was able to add some color about Lucha and the Luchadors. Miguel definitely felt like a third wheel most of the time but he shined in the Mistico-MJF match.
Arena/Vibe:
Arena Mexico is such a unique and cool-looking venue. The crowd was loud and boisterous for everything including military band/mariachi performance in between the second and third matches. It was wild how much more over “Cielito Lindo” was at this show than a lot of the musical performances on WWE shows.
Matches:
Lluvia & La Jarochita vs Reyna Isis & Persephone
This match opened the show. In addition to the aforementioned audio issues, this match simply wasnâ€t very good. The women didnâ€t have much chemistry and even though Lucha rules are looser, having all four women in the match most of the time was a little much. All of that said, the sold-out crowd in Arena Mexico ate this up. They booed vociferously when Lluvia & La Jarochita got the win. Still, I wish the show had started hotter and I definitely wish the Womenâ€s Division had been given an opportunity to redeem itself.
Villaino III Jr & Hijo del Villiano III vs Angel del Oro & Niebla Roja
An improvement on the first match, for sure. These two teams did battle for the CMLL World Tag Team titles. The use of the Lucha tag rules in this one wasnâ€t as obnoxious as in the first match. The action was solid with both teams flying around the ring and the faces repeatedly going for submissions until they were able to lock on simultaneous swinging surfboards to retain their titles. Interestingly, the crowd was much more on the side of the heel Villiano brothers and actually booed the outcome.

Atlantis Jr. & Neón, & Mascara Dorada vs. Hechicero & Volador Jr, & Zankodan Jr. – Two out of Three Falls
This was the chaotic spotfest that youâ€d expect from these six. Mascara Dorada is a tremendous talent. He was executing high-flying moves with such fluidity and ease. Dorada scored the first fall on Zankodan Jr. before getting triple-teamed by all three heels and pinned by Hechicero. Dorada got even though, scoring the decisive fall for his team with his beautiful shooting star press on Hechicero.
Difunto & Barboza vs. TÃtan & Templario – Copa Independencia final
Difunto officially has my new favorite lucha mask. Itâ€s this really cool pirate skeleton thing. That said, this match was good although not as good as the one before it. The commentators were starting to gel more at this point and did a good job telling the story of TÃtan and Templario going from rivals to partners. This match featured another double pin, which must be a staple of lucha wrestling. The faces going over makes sense given that it seems like CMLL is trying build up this unlikely partnership.
El Felino vs. Rey Bucanero (Hair vs. Hair)
This was the legends match on the card (Felino is 61, Bucanero is 51). Once I realized these were older luchadors, I wasnâ€t expecting much, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Felino was still pretty spry for his age, even hitting a top rope huracanrana at one point. It was still the slowest match on the card though, which it made it stick out, although it wasnâ€t bad by any means.
The finish was both historic yet unsatisfying. Each man kicked the other low in full view of the referee resulting in a double disqualification and, for the first time ever, both combatants getting their heads shaved. Itâ€s just nice to know that bad finishes arenâ€t just limited to American promotions. I did like the added touch of having a professional barber on hand to do the hair cutting, though.
Mìstico vs. MJF – Mask vs Title
As well-worked and incredible as “Hangman” Page vs. Kyle Fletcher, I have to give the slight edge to MÃstico and MJF for match of the weekend. This was everything you want in pro wrestling. From the moment “Mi Muero” hit, MÃstico may as well have been a deity. All of Arena Mexico was behind him. MJF was the perfect foil as the nationalistic American heel.
MJF attacked MÃstico before the bell. He ripped a hole in MÃsticoâ€s mask and slammed him face first into the ringpost which split him wide open. From that point on, MÃstico fought from underneath bleeding like a stuck pig the entire time. The crowd would will him to rally and MJF would quickly quash it. MJF reversed an attempt at La Mistica into a tombstone. He hit a package piledriver on the apron and then demanded the ref count only for MÃstico to narrowly make it back into the ring.
MÃstico rallied one last time hitting a crazy standing top rope huracanrana and successfully put MJF in La Mistica. MJF attempted to reach the rope, but MÃstico rolled through and re-applied the hold. This time he cranked it and forced MJF to tap much to the thundering adoration of the crowd. CMLL owner Salvador Lutteroth came out with his son to present MÃstico with the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Title. This was incredible. Excellent work from both men and the atmosphere just put over the top. A match of the year contender in my book.
Drágon Rojo & Barbaro Cavernario vs. Esfinge & El Valiente vs. Último Guerrero & Averno
The rules to this main event were unique. Essentially it was two matches in one. In the first match, three teams of rivals competed in a triple threat elimination tag match. The action was fast and furious. It also gave Último Guerrero and Averno, who are on the older side the luxury of not having to carry a match themselves.
Each wrestler had a chance to shine before Esfinge eliminated Cavernario and Rojo by pinning Cavernario after a 540 Kick. Rojo then fought Cavernario up the ramp to the back. Último Guerrero and Averno were the next go following a double pin off of a simultaneous lung blower and top rope splash.
That left Esfinge and Valiente to battle in a mask vs. mask match. They went around 20 minutes. Valiente worked over Esfingeâ€s arm early. Esfinge mounted a comeback and hit a 540 kick which Valiente kicked out of. He also kicked out of a top rope splash. Esfinge finally got win with a painful looking twisting figure-four into a bridging pin. The show closed with Valiente unmasking.
Overall Thoughts:
I thought this was a very fun show that didnâ€t overstay its welcome. The show got better after the clunky opener and peaked with the incredible MÃstico-MJF match, although the main event was more than solid. Given the relationship between CMLL and AEW, the exposure of the CMLL talent to an American audience. I think it would behoove CMLL to consider making English commentary a regular feature of their programming so that theyâ€re show is more accessible to a non-Spanish speaking audience.

A Rough Night for the Family
Latest Developments
Kyle Fletcher came up short in a fantastic match with “Hangman” Page, Josh Alexander & Hechicero failed to win the AEW Tag Team Titles, and tension continued to brew Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada as the latter retained his Unified Title in a not-so-great night for the Don Callis Family.
Analysis
The DCF’s night began midway through the PPV with Kazuchika Okada defending his Unified Title against Konosuke Takeshita and Mascara Dorada in a sensational three-way match. Dorada, wrestling his third match in three days, was the stand out in this one, hitting a plethora of incredible lucha spots throughout. He simply refused to get lost amidst the larger story of Okada and Takeshita each trying to prove their superiority. I didnâ€t love that Okada and Takeshita shared a ring before they had a one-on-one match, but this match did a good job threading the needle and building up interest in the eventual encounter.
Hechicero and Josh Alexander were among four teams in the four way ladder match in the semi-main event. Iâ€ve always believed ladder matches should only be used in specific situations, none of which this match met, but thereâ€s no doubt this match was great.
One of the scarier spots of the match came when “Speedball” Mike Bailey executed his moonsault double knee drop onto Hechicero who was stretched across a ladder. Iâ€m not sure what got the worst of it, Speedballâ€s shins or Hechiceroâ€s neck. In the end, Bandido took out the DCF members with a top rope moonsault with a ladder in his hands before ascending another ladder to retrieve the belts for his team.
The show closed with Kyle Fletcher challenging “Hangman” Page for the AEW Menâ€s World Title. If there were any doubters who believed Fletcher didnâ€t belong in the main event, he absolutely proved them wrong. The match was 38 minutes but never dragged. Champion and challenger beat the hell out of each other. Fletcher targeted Hangmanâ€s taped up neck which Fletcher injured in a show closing attack last Wednesday. He hit a brainbuster through the timekeeper’s table and then another in the ring, but Hangman kicked out.
Thatâ€s when he started to get frustrated and make mistakes. It eventually caught up with him as Hangman reversed an attempt at the top rope brainbuster into a top rope Dead Eye which he followed up with a Buckshot lariat for the win.
The main event was easily the match of the night. Fletcher established himself as a player who is ready for the main event physically but perhaps has emotional growing to do. This loss should be motivation for Fletcher to really focus on his TNT Title and eventually work his way back to a title match. As for Hangman, itâ€s hard to know if thereâ€s more battles with the Don Callis Family ahead or if a new challenger will emerge.

Tic Tack Done
Latest Developments
Mark Briscoe finally got even with MJF, defeating him in the first even Tacks ‘n’ Tacks match.
Analysis
Mark Briscoe started of the match by emptying the contents of four buckets full of tacks into the center of the ring. MJF dodged being dropped into them a couple times before scoop slamming Briscoe into them. He then hit an Alabama Slam on Briscoe into the tacks. MJF also brilliantly got heat by putting the tables back under the ring. It was a simple thing but so effective. Briscoe took over and repeatedly dropped into the tacks. He put him through a table on the floor. The finish came after Briscoe hit two Froggy Bows, one through a table, and then the Jay Driller.
Briscoe had to win this match after all the heinous things MJF said about his family, specifically his late brother. It does seem like Briscoe is sliding back into his feud with the DCF and effort to get a TNT title match against Kyle Fletcher.
This loss capped off a bad weekend for MJF who lost a great match to Mistico the night prior at the CMLL Anniversario show. Iâ€m not sure whatâ€s next for him but he does still hold that Casino Gauntlet contract.

Well That Was Unexpected
Latest Developments
Kris Statlander shocked the world, pinning Toni Storm with a seatbelt to capture the AEW Womenâ€s World title.
Analysis
When Toni Storm set up the four-way match for AEW Womenâ€s World Title it seemed like a foregone conclusion that she would retain her championship. That made Kris Statlanderâ€s upset all the more surprising. The match itself was fine, although it quite clicked into a higher gear. At the end, Toni was left alone in the ring with Stat. The two squared off with Stat getting the advantage and hooking on the seatbelt pinning combination for the unexpected victory.
I hope thereâ€s a good plan in place for Statlander given the equity that Toni has built up in the title since winning it back in Australia in February. Obviously sheâ€s been doing this weird dance with the Death Riders for weeks now and she won with Wheeler Yutaâ€s signature move. The thing is it feels like the best opportunity for her to turn heel was during the match, as a way to win. It would feel anticlimactic to do it once sheâ€s already beaten the champion clean.
Tony Khanâ€s announcement regarding the Women’s Tag Team Titles being introduced complicates matters further because itâ€s always felt like Stat and Willow were destined to make a deep run in the inaugural tournament or even win it. That would mean she’d have to remain a face. Itâ€s hard to say where this goes but we probably wonâ€t be able to fully judge it until after the fact. (Statlander seemed to definitely side against the Death Riders by clotheslining Yuta and flipping off Mox.)

The Mox, The Mox, The Mox is on Fire!
Latest Developments
Jon Moxley defeated Darby Allin in a coffin match with the help of the returning Pac only to be set on fire in a body bag backstage.
Analysis
The match was as violent and bloody as expected. At one point Darby hit a suicide dive onto Mox into a standing coffin. In a callback to last month at Forbidden Door, Darby retrieved a fork and stabbed Mox in the ear and the head.
Speaking of callbacks Bryan Danielson produced a duffel bag in which he had hidden a plastic bag identical to the one the Death Riders used on him. He passed the bag to Darby who then attempted to suffocate Mox. Just when it looked like Darby had the match won, Pac made his return after a several month injury layoff. Sporting street clothes and a new short haircut, Pac kicked Darby in the face and then Razorâ€s Edged him over the top rope onto the lid of a coffin. He picked up Darbyâ€s lifeless body, placed in a body bag, and dumped it in the coffin which Mox kicked shut.
This win was something of a surprise given that it seemed like Darby winning and symbolically closing the lid on the Death Riders made the most sense. Moxâ€s victory extends the story. What also extended the story was what transpired later backstage. Mox and the Death Riders had carried the coffin with Darby in it away from the ring after the match.
Marina Shafir found a cameraman in the back and directed him to film. Mox stood over the coffin and said he loved Darby. He dismissed the other Death Riders and then knelt next to the coffin. Thatâ€s when Darby, having Houdini-d himself out of the body bag popped out of the coffin and blasted Mox with a pipe. He then put Mox in the body bag, sprayed a flammable liquid on him, and lit him on fire. Officials quickly rushed to put the flames out as Mox screamed in pain. Darby told them to let him burn as he was forcibly dragged away from the scene.
Ordinarily, this would be a too over-the-top scene but given the escalatory nature of the violence within this feud, something the commentators pointed out, it somehow made sense. That said, I shudder to imagine whatâ€s next. Maybe Tony Khan is going to bring back the human torch match after all.
[Note: Darby showed at Dynamite with his flamethrower and challenged Mox to an Quit match at WrestleDream.]

The Ecstasy and the Agony
Latest Developments
Adam Copeland & Christian Cage defeated FTR only for FTR to attack them and the debuting Beth Copeland after the match.
Analysis
This match featured the most Canadian video package accompanying Copeland and Christianâ€s entrance with the two running into hockey legends and TV stars backstage. As for the match it was wrestled like an old school tag match with the heels isolating one of the faces. Things broke down after Christian hit Dax with a spear and Copeland used the Killswitch on Cash. Copeland made the cover but Stokely.
That brought out the former Beth Phoenix now Beth Copeland. She speared Stokely and then carried him to the back on her shoulders. FTR got a series of near falls on Copeland first with shot with the ring bell and then consecutive Shatter Machines. The finish itself was a little wonky with Christian yanking Dax out the ring and Cash walking into a spear.
After the match Beth returned to congratulate her husband when Mother Wayne suddenly rolled Nick Wayne onto the stage in a wheelchair. That allowed FTR and Kip Sabian to attack Copeland and Christian from behind. Sabian handcuffed Copeland to the bottom rope while FTR hit a spiked piledriver on Christian. They turned their sights on Beth. When she realized the situation she simply kissed her husband and then started punching FTR. They quickly overwhelmed her and Copeland was forced to watch Beth take a spiked piledriver.
This all worked well in front of the Toronto crowd. The hometown legends got their win but the heels got a ton of heat back to extend the feud. The go-home promo saved a lackluster build and this match set up the next steps nicely so I expect better from the buildup this time around.

Random Questions
– Can we get Mercedes Moné a real opponent now? Yes, she had a good match with Riho but the entire set up felt totally out of nowhere. There was an interesting feud going between Mercedes and Alex Windsor and Riho got dropped into the middle of it. Letâ€s get back to that.
