The New England Patriots’ social media team had the perfect image ready to celebrate a 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night.

The Pats called back to the quick embrace between former teammates Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen last year, when Diggs left an unmistakable side-eye toward his old quarterback:

Diggs, who finished with 10 receptions for 146 yards, had his best performance since his trade from Buffalo to the Houston Texans in April 2024.

The four-time Pro Bowler acknowledged after the game his return to Orchard Park, New York, carried a little extra edge. He told NBC Sports’ Melissa Stark it was “100 percent” personal.

“Obviously, I love those guys,” he said. “Still got a good relationship with those guys. Got a lot of respect for ’em. But I love the game of football more. And every time I go out here, I’m trying to prove it. Not only to them, but to myself.”

Diggs and the Bills had a productive four years together. He was one of the NFL’s best wideouts during that time, and Buffalo claimed an AFC East title each year. By 2024, the dynamic had run its course, however.

In general, there were broad concerns Diggs might be losing a step, and one Bills source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler in October 2024 that “he offense didn’t need him anymore.”

Perhaps it’s not a total coincidence the 31-year-old wound up on a team that assured him of two meetings with Buffalo moving forward.
