John Cena explains the thought process that went into the infamous squash match against Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam 2014.

The main event of SummerSlam 2014 saw John Cena defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Brock Lesnar. The Beast completely manhandled Big Match John, delivering one of the most one-sided outings in company history.

After taking multiple trips to “Suplex City,†Cena fell to Lesnarâ€s match-ending F-5 for the closing bell. Brock would remain champion until WrestleMania the following year, when he dropped the title to Seth Rollins after the “heist of the century.â€

John Cena reflects on WWE SummerSlam match against Brock Lesnar

During a recent interview with The Ringerâ€s Bill Simmons, John Cena went into great detail explaining why he lost to Brock Lesnar the way he did at WWE SummerSlam 2014.

“Iâ€ve been in all sorts of stories,†Cena said. “When youâ€re told, ‘Hey, Iâ€m the good guy, youâ€re the bad guy. You have four minutes on television, and the purpose of our four-minute commercial is to make John look unstoppable,†the way you can do the best for me, for you, and for the match is to bump like a madman and lose.

“A flip scenario of this is the famous Suplex City match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam after he defeated The Undertaker. How does one follow breaking the streak — the most mythical thing in sports entertainment that a lot of us thought would never end — and this beast breaks it? And Iâ€m up next. How do we follow that?

“So how do we make this guy, who won this huge thing, definitely not a fluke? If I went out there and had a 50/50 performance with Brock Lesnar — Brock Lesnar is capable of making anyone look fantastic, by the way — but that wouldnâ€t help Brock, it wouldnâ€t help the story, and it wouldnâ€t help all of us.â€

John Cena on the purpose of SummerSlam match

“The purpose of that match was to get Brock Lesnar over strong on our most cherished, strong, and believable intellectual property. If he can beat The Undertaker, heâ€s a beast. If he just destroys John Cena, I want you uncomfortable and looking over to your shoulder at your friend being like, ‘Who the f is going to beat this guy?â€

“And along comes somebody like Roman Reigns. Finally — he can do it. Those moments… you leverage that SummerSlam, that single-serving packet.â€

Charlotte Flair talks WWE sale to Endeavor

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)…

With a mildly disappointing Survivor Series in the rear-view mirror, we look forward to the Royal Rumble, the unofficial start to WrestleMania season. We expect the seeds of what will become the most important wrestling feuds of the year will begin to take shape.

Itâ€s fitting, then, that the first major WrestleMania video promos have been released in recent weeks, appropriately Vegas-themed and featuring several of the companyâ€s top stars in a casino setting. Although “The Showcase of the Immortals” is still over four months away, the men’s and women’s promotional videos give us a sneak peek into who WWE Creative expects to feature.

It seems likely that the wrestlers included in these videos will participate in the main events and the highest-profile matches at WrestleMania. Just as telling are the current top-tier wrestlers who were absent from the videos, suggesting that these performers won’t be as strongly featured.

A lot can change in four months, and we’ve seen WrestleMania plans change (just ask Daniel Bryan and Cody Rhodes), but itâ€s fun to speculate on what these videos mean.

Letâ€s dive in.

Rising Star of the Week: Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair has wrestled for a major singles title in five out of the last six WrestleManiaâ€s, but 2025 has seen her take an unprecedented detour from the main event scene. A rocky program with Tiffany Stratton at WrestleMania 41 shone a harsh spotlight on Flairâ€s weaknesses, and her future as a main event star seemed doubtful for the first time. Flair sojourned in the tag team division, partnering with Alexa Bliss and successfully rehabilitating her character.

The Queenâ€s inclusion in the Vegas promo, from which Bliss was absent, is a clear sign of her return to a high-profile singles feud — most likely a run at either the WWE Womenâ€s or World Womenâ€s Championship. Flair is responsible for some of the greatest womenâ€s matches in WWE history, so her elevation to a singles program at WrestleMania would be very good news for wrestling fans.

All hail the queen!

Runner-up: Brock Lesnar

The Beast is back!

Brock Lesnarâ€s participation in a major WrestleMania feud can no longer be taken for granted. He did not perform at the event in 2022 or 2025 and wrestled a completely forgettable match against Omos in 2024 (in case youâ€d forgotten).

The past few months have seen a rebuilding of Lesnarâ€s character, most notably his dominant win over John Cena at WrestlePalooza, and most recently serving as the anchor for the winning menâ€s WarGames team at Survivor Series.

Lesnar is poised for a run at the World Heavyweight Championship. His place at the poker-table promo foreshadows a main event spot at WrestleMania, perhaps against fellow Paul Heyman guy Bron Breakker.

Second Runner up: Tiffany Stratton

Strattonâ€s reign as WWE Womenâ€s Champion was underwhelming, to say the least. Stilted mic work sabotaged her can’t-miss look and athleticism. Her babyface character never quite clicked, and none of her feuds seemed particularly impactful.

After dropping the title amid an apparent injury in early November, Stratton has been on hiatus, and her status as a main event act has been uncertain.

The “Buff Barbie†inclusion in the casino promo suggests a prominent role for her at WrestleMania. Creative likely has big plans for Stratton in the coming months.

Letâ€s hope those plans include a heel turn.

Fading Star of the Week: Stephanie Vaquer

As the Womenâ€s World Champion, Vaquer is the only main roster world champion who did not appear in the WrestleMania promo. This omission may foreshadow the Dark Angelâ€s fall from grace in the months to come.

Vaquerâ€s reign as champion got off to an incredible start, featuring a fantastic match with Iyo Sky. A clean win over WWE Womenâ€s Champion Stratton to become the Crown Jewel Champion framed Vaquer as the top woman wrestler in WWE.

Since Crown Jewel, La Primeraâ€s title run is best described as básico. Her limited English impairs her ability to connect with the audience in promos, and consequently her storylines have been less than riveting.

Vaquerâ€s match with Nikki Bella, one of only four matches at Survivor Series, was poorly received. The crowd did not seem to buy into Bella as a challenger (unsurprising, as she had not won a singles match since July), and the challengerâ€s limited ring skills prevented the match from leaving second gear. Despite a convincing win, Vaquer remains on shaky ground as champion.

Reading the tea leaves, it seems likely that Vaquer drops her title long before WrestleMania and settles into a more secondary role.

Some time away from the spotlight — perhaps spent on Duolingo and practicing promos — should serve her well..

First Runner-Up: Bron Breakker

WWE has gone to great lengths to put over Breakker as “the future†of the company. He was a featured performer in advertisements for Survivor Series and went on to score the winning pin in the WarGames main event.

Announcers have predicted multiple WrestleMania main events in his future. On Raw, he gave what was meant to be a signature promo, in which he challenged World Heavyweight Champion C.M. Punk.

Itâ€s curious, then, that Breakker was not included in the blackjack promo video alongside C.M. Punk, Lesnar, Cody Rhodes, and Roman Reigns. Is the future still a ways off?

Vision unclear.

Second Runner-Up: Drew McIntyre

McIntyre has earned critical acclaim by delivering top-tier performances time and time again throughout 2025, but the reward of a key role at WrestleMania seems unlikely.

McIntyreâ€s extracurricular activities are partly to blame. Cast as Angus Macleod, the brother of Henry Cavillâ€s titular character in “Highlander,” McIntyre is expected to take time off from wrestling in early 2026. Depending on the length of his absence, The Scottish Warriorâ€s hiatus may prevent him from participating in the build to WrestleMania.

His absence from the Vegas video provides further evidence that the former Chosen One will play a more limited role at the Show of Shows.

When it comes to focusing on both a wrestling career and an acting career, it seems “there can only be one.â€

John Cena and Brock Lesnar were featured at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames. However, they were kept apart during the premium live event.

Cena and Lesnar locked horns one last time at Wrestlepalooza in September, which marked the former UFC Heavyweight Champion’s WWE in-ring return after over two years. The Beast Incarnate manhandled his longtime rival in a manner strikingly similar to their SummerSlam 2014 encounter.

The Never Seen 17 was humbled, but the story seems to be over there, as he wrestled his penultimate career match at Survivor Series against Dominik Mysterio. His swan song is scheduled for December 13, and it evidently won’t be against Lesnar.

John Cena And Brock Lesnar Were Kept Apart At WWE Survivor Series: WarGames

John Cena and Brock Lesnar had their own dressing rooms at Survivor Series, according to Fightful Select. At the event, while Cena dropped the Intercontinental Championship to “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio, Brock Lesnar headlined the show in the Men’s WarGames match. Big Match John performed one last time at a WWE premium live event, and it was the second bout in a four-match card.

On the other hand, Brock Lesnar seems to be heavily factored in for WrestleMania 42, scheduled to emanate from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas next April. The Beast prevailed inside WarGames, alongside Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Logan Paul, and Drew McIntyre. All five men were seen celebrating, standing side by side with Paul Heyman, as the fireworks went off post-match.

The Fightful Select report also stated that WWE went to great lengths to protect rehearsals owing to the open nature of the Petco Park stadium. The company put up curtains for some rehearsals and reportedly didn’t plan heavy entrance rehearsals because people would be able to see from their hotel.

Cena’s final PLE match saw the return of Liv Morgan. Her masterful deception allowed “Dirty” Dom to defeat Big Match John and etch his name in history. After the show, the power couple gloated, with Morgan claiming that the torch had been passed.

Drew McIntyre, Brock Lesnar, and Logan Paul

WWE

Brock Lesnar is regarded as one of the most athletic stars in WWE history, but he uncharacteristically fell during his entrance on “WWE Raw.” Paul Heyman, Lesnar’s mouthpiece for a long time, has given the reason why “The Beast Incarnate” fell.

Lesnar appeared in the ring following the main event on “Raw,” where his WarGames teammates Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul defeated The Usos to win the WarGames advantage match. On his way to the ring, Lesnar stomped his feet, which usually triggers the pyro, but this time, he fell, which Heyman analyzed in his appearance on “ESPN.”

“Actually, I think it is a GOAT move [the Lesnar fall]. And the reason why I think it is a GOAT move is because we all fumble at some point in a game. We all do. There’s no such thing as someone that doesn’t fumble in life. Brock Lesnar turned a fumble into a touchdown just like that. He is the beast. There’s no one like him. He’s one of one,” he said.

Heyman then explained the real reason why Lesnar slipped and fell while making his entrance, claiming that there was water on the ramp that caused the fall, before going on to hype the former world champion.

“There was water on the entrance way. Slips, falls, rolls through, comes up and there he is smiling and just and coming down to the ring for war. Who else could do that but Brock Lesnar?” asked Heyman.

After the fall, Lesnar placed his hat on the head of his WarGames teammate, Bron Breakker, before meeting the rest of the team — McIntyre, Paul, and Bronson Reed — laughing with them about the fall and then entering the ring to brawl with his WarGames opponents. Lesnar will be wrestling for the first time in two months at WarGames, following his last match against John Cena at Wrestlepalooza.

On ESPN’s First Take this morning, Paul Heyman reacted to an embarrassing moment Brock Lesnar had on WWE Raw.

Lesnar slipped and fell while making his entrance in the show-closing angle of Raw this Monday. He was able to pop right back up after the fall and laugh at himself, but the moment still went viral across social media.

Heyman played off the slip, claiming that there was water on the entrance ramp. He said everyone fumbles at some point, but what’s important is how you react to it.

“Actually, I think it is a GOAT [Greatest of All Time] move. And the reason why I think it is a GOAT move is because we all fumble at some point in the game,” Heyman told First Take. “We all do. There’s no such thing as someone who doesn’t fumble in life. Brock Lesnar turned a fumble into a touchdown just like that. He is The Beast. There’s no one like him. He’s one of one. Look at that, boom. There was water on the entranceway. Slips, falls, rolls through, comes up, and there he is smiling and coming down to the ring for war. Who else could do that but Brock Lesnar?”

Lesnar will be in action as part of the men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series in San Diego this Saturday (November 29). It will be Lesnar, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Logan Paul & Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns & The Usos.

Heyman — the manager for the heel side — hyped that this is the greatest assembly of talent to ever compete in WarGames. He also called Survivor Series an “infomercial” for WrestleMania 42 season.

“We have to top all the previous WarGames. But, also, this is really an infomercial for WrestleMania,” Heyman said. “Because as you must know by now, there’s such publicity push out there, that the individual tickets for WrestleMania Saturday [and] WrestleMania Sunday go on sale on Black Friday, on this Friday.

“So we are out there just showing the world, ‘Hey, check out this spectacle. Check out what WWE is about.’ And our biggest show of the year, WrestleMania individual tickets going on sale. This is our audition for the world to come to Vegas for WrestleMania — at the same time giving the most bang for the buck in the greatest WarGames of all time.”

Brock Lesnar had a hilarious reaction to his entrance botch on WWE RAW.

The final episode of Monday Night RAW before Survivor Series: WarGames featured a hilarious moment, courtesy of Brock Lesnar. The Beast Incarnate made his way out to ringside after Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul defeated The Usos in the main event to gain the WarGames advantage for their team.

However, Brock Lesnarâ€s entrance didnâ€t go as planned as he tripped and fell backwards when he did his usual pose near the ramp. After the show went off the air, a fan posted a clip of Lesnar reacting to the mishap by pointing at the spot he slipped and saying, ‘Slick as sh*t right there.â€

Brock Lesnar didnâ€t seem stressed as he and Paul Heyman were seen laughing throughout the whole moment. Drew McIntyre also examined the spot before the heel team stared down their WarGames opponents from the stage.

Wrestling fans were also quick to turn Brock Lesnarâ€s embarrassing botch into memes and have shared them on social media.

Brock Lesnar Will Break A Lengthy Streak At Survivor Series

Brock Lesnar will compete inside WarGames for the first time in his career at Survivor Series this Saturday. However, another important stat about this match is that it will be the first time since 2004 that Lesnar will team up with other superstars in a televised WWE event.

The last time Lesnar teamed up with another superstar in WWE was on the February 12, 2004, episode of SmackDown, where he and The Big Show lost to Eddie Guerrero and John Cena.

He wouldâ€ve teamed up with Cody Rhodes on the RAW after WrestleMania 39, but he turned on Rhodes before the match began. So, Drew McIntyre, Logan Paul, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed will be Brock Lesnarâ€s first tag team partners in 21 years.

The November 24 episode of WWE RAW saw Brock Lesnar embarrass himself after accidentally falling during a botched entrance and now fans mercilessly clowned Lesnar in a big way.

After the main event, the babyface and heel WarGames teams started brawling with each other. Towards the end of the segment, Brock Lesnar walked to the ring with Paul Heyman beside him, but during his usual entrance routine, he slipped while doing his pyro pose and fell on the ramp. Lesnar quickly got back to his feet and no-sold the botch, but it was too little too late.

Several fans took to Twitter and mocked the Beast Incarnate. One fan pointed out how Lesnar once ripped his pants and now he fell down, saying, “First the pants exploded now he busts his ass.†Another fan questioned how it was possible to fall down during a pyro entrance, saying, “How you fall down during Pyro.â€

It didnâ€t stop there as a different fan stated that Brock Lesnar is bouncy, saying, “Brock Lesnar is… bouncy.†Another fan joked that Lesnar slipped on pee, saying, “HE SLIPPED ON PISS 😂😂😂â€

One fan joked about the moment, saying they were cracking up watching Lesnar “fall like a cartoon character when his pyro hit†and laughed about how he basically memed himself.

“This dude fell like a cartoon character when his Pyro hit and memed on himself and oh my god was i rolling😂😂😂😂😂😂😂â€

Even though Brock Lesnar slipped during his entrance, he got up fast and continued like nothing happened. But fans still turned the moment into memes and jokes online. Mistakes like this are rare for someone as scary as Lesnar, which makes it even funnier. Nonetheless, Lesnar is still focused on his WarGames match at Survivor Series, so weâ€ll have to see if heâ€ll end up making more memes at the event.

Did Brock Lesnarâ€s slip make RAW more memorable, or was it just embarrassing? Sound off in the comments.

The November 24, episode of WWE RAW went down at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The main event match saw a tag team contest that would go on to change WarGames.

The Menâ€s WarGames match at WWE Survivor Series 2025 will feature Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, and Jimmy Uso against Brock Lesnar, Drew McIntyre, Logan Paul, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed. We need to know which team will have the advantage in that match, and that went down this week on RAW.

The Usos represented the babyface team during the WarGames advantage match tonight. They were taking on Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul, even though The Maverick wasnâ€t thrilled about getting booked for that match.

This match had fans going the whole time, and it stretched through a commercial break. Jimmy Uso nailed a spear and an Uso Splash on Logan Paul, but Drew McIntyre was able to break it up. Then things kept going as everyone ended up taking damage.

Bron Breakker arrived at ringside with Bronson Reed by his side. They woke Logan Paul up, but then Cody Rhodes and CM Punk ran down to get involved. The babyfaces took the heels to the woodshed around the ring as the match carried on. Then Jey Uso nailed a splash on everyone as Logan Paul rolled Jimmy Uso up for a quick pinfall to win the match.

The heels have the advantage at WarGames, but the night wasnâ€t over. The babyface team started beating up the heels, and then Roman Reigns came down to really help out. Finally, Brock Lesnar came out, and he fell as he did his typical entrance. That didnâ€t stop him, as he invaded the ring to take on the babyfaces. The show ended with chaos in the ring, but few will forget about Lesnarâ€s slip and fall.

Whatâ€s your take on the WarGames match this year? Which team will end up winning? Will you be watching live on Saturday night? Let us know what you think in the comments section!

WWE legend compares Brock Lesnar and Goldberg, criticizing the latter.

Bret Hart has shared the squared circle with several legends throughout his illustrious, decade-long career. Some of these names include Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Roddy Piper, The Undertaker, and more. Some of them are remembered fondly by The Hitman, except for Goldberg, whom he has been criticizing for years. Now, the Hall of Famer doubles down on his thoughts about the former WCW star while talking about Brock Lesnar.

In a recent appearance on the Johnny 1 Pro Show, Bret Hart shared that there are several current WWE stars that he wished he could have wrestled, among them being Brock Lesnar. The Hitman stated that The Beast Incarnate was a professional and knew wrestling, unlike Goldberg.

I would like to wrestle Brock Lesnar. I’ve always understood that Brock Lesnar, like I heard that he wished that he had wrestled me one time. And I’ve always heard from different guys that Brock Lesnar is like a professional, like he’s really good. He’s not like Goldberg. I’m just saying, he knows what wrestling is all about, and he does it right, and some guys like Goldberg never understood it ever.”

Goldberg officially retired from in-ring competition on Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, 2025. Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar is still actively competing in WWE. The latter is scheduled in a WarGames match on November 29 with Paul Heyman’s team.

WWE Hall Of Famer Bret Hart’s Hatred Over Goldberg Began In 1999 At WCW

Bret Hart officially retired from wrestling in October 2000. It was stated that one of the main contributors to this decision was because of his title match against Da Man.

At WCW Starrcade 1999, Bret defended his championship against his fellow WWE Hall of Famer. During the bout, the challenger kicked Hart, causing a concussion and the eventual end to The Hitman’s career. Since then, Bret has given many insults to Goldberg, including the statement that he was an unsafe worker.
