Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Brandon Clarke will undergo an arthroscopic procedure to address knee synovitis, which he suffered during offseason training, the team announced Friday.
Clarke is set to be reevaluated in six weeks, sources told ESPN. The Grizzlies said Clarke is expected to make a full recovery from his synovitis, an issue affecting the lining of the knee joint, but did not disclose a timeline.
The 29-year-old Clarke missed the final month of the 2024-25 season with a posterior cruciate ligament sprain, which fully healed without surgery.
Clarke’s injury announcement was one of a number of updates from the Grizzles on Friday. The team also said that center Zach Edey (ankle) and forward Jaren Jackson Jr. (toe) had been cleared to begin ramping up basketball activities. Edey is set to miss another six to nine weeks, while Jackson is expected to return to play in four to six weeks, the Grizzlies said.
Clarke has dealt with a number of lower-body injuries in his career. Along with this latest issue and the PCL strain, he tore his left Achilles tendon late in the 2022-23 season and missed most of the following year.
He played in 64 games last season and averaged 8.3 points and 5.1 rebounds over 18.9 minutes. Clarke has two years and $25 million left on his contract.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Despite the disappointment of potentially missing the 2025-26 season because of a torn ACL, Houston Rockets point guard Fred VanVleet is maintaining an optimistic outlook as he prepares to start rehabbing the injury.
In a video posted on X that starts with messages in the wake of his knee injury before showing him walking into the doctor’s office for surgery, VanVleet vowed to “knock this lil s–t” out in reference to his rehab and recovery.
VanVleet suffered the injury during a workout as he was preparing for the start of training camp with the Rockets. He had surgery to repair his knee on Thursday, per an announcement from the team.
The Rockets haven’t officially said VanVleet will miss all of the upcoming season, but post-surgery recovery ranges from six to nine months. If that timeline follows, late-March would be the absolute earliest he could be back on the court.
News of VanVleet’s injury was particularly crushing because the Rockets made a big move in the offseason to acquire Kevin Durant with the goal of becoming a Finals contender after winning 52 games last season.
Houston still possesses a lot of high-level talent, including Durant, Alperen Şengün and Amen Thompson, but the lack of a proven point guard does leave a significant void without an obvious solution.
The hope, presumably, will be that Reed Sheppard, the No. 3 overall draft pick in 2024, can emerge as a reliable option after playing a total of 654 minutes as a rookie. Aaron Holiday is also going to be a huge piece for head coach Ime Udoka.
VanVleet averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 60 starts for the Rockets last season.

CMLL star Zandokan Jr. will be spending some time on the sidelines as he recovers from a knee injury.
On Instagram this week, Zandokan indicated that he would be out of action after suffering a knee injury on CMLL’s September 12 event. He worked a couple of dates after the injury, including still competing at the CMLL 92nd Aniversario, but Dave Meltzer confirmed that Zandokan will now be having surgery.
“He’s having knee surgery from the injury that he suffered a week ago Friday in the match with Bandido & Brody King against Zandokan & Difunto. So he’ll be out of action for a while, which is too bad. He was really having a year,” Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.
“He was a guy that they were really focusing on to build to being one of their top stars. He had had a really big year this year. He beat Star Jr. for his mask. He won the Copa Junior, beating Mascara Dorada in the finals. He’d gotten the championship match with MJF. He’d gotten the [AEW] Tag Team Championship match. Headlined a lot of shows. The trio [Galeon Fantasma] was on fire, but they’re going to have to pause for a while until he gets back.”
Along with his CMLL work, Zandokan is an entrant in MLW Opera Cup 2025 and has been set to appear at Fantastica Mania UK for RevPro next month. There haven’t been any announcements made by MLW or RevPro regarding his status.

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is working hard to expedite his return to the field as he deals with a knee sprain.
Head coach Dan Quinn told reporters Wednesday the second-year star is “doing everything you possibly can to get there.”
Daniels was sidelined for Washington’s 41-24 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3. The offense didn’t look much worse without him under center. Marcus Mariota was an efficient 15-of-21 for 207 yards and a touchdown, while the Commanders piled up 201 yards on the ground.
The status of the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year may loom larger in Week 4.
The Atlanta Falcons are second in total defense so far by allowing just 227.3 yards per game. No team is giving up fewer yards through the air (131.0), and opposing quarterbacks have a paltry 76.0 passer rating against the Falcons so far.
While it came out on the losing end, Atlanta limited Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield to 167 yards on 32 attempts in the opening week.
Mariota is an experienced backup who’s a pretty close facsimile to Daniels in terms of their playing styles. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury doesn’t have to change the game plan much when the one Heisman Trophy winner is filling in for the other.
Still, Washington will have better odds of improving its record to 3-1 if Daniels is on the field against the Falcons.

San Francisco 49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa reportedly will undergo season-ending surgery after suffering a torn ACL against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero noted that Bosa was seen giving a thumbs-down on the broadcast.
Losing Bosa is a huge blow to the 49ers’ defense. The former No. 2 overall pick has recorded 15 tackles, two sacks and four tackles for loss through two games this season and had two tackles before his injury on Sunday.
Bosa’s long-term injury only adds to a laundry list of ailments for the 49ers.
San Francisco came into the season knowing it would be without wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for a while as he recovered from a torn ACL. The 49ers then lost George Kittle due to a hamstring injury in Week 1, and he’s currently on the injured reserve.
Quarterback Brock Purdy also missed Week 2 and is not playing against the Cardinals because of a toe injury. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings is also sidelined because of shoulder and ankle injuries.
Even with the various injuries, the 49ers came into Sunday’s matchup undefeated with wins over the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints, and they’re hoping to stay perfect against Arizona.
That task is much more difficult without Bosa, who recorded 52 tackles and nine sacks in 14 games last year.

Add another injury to the pile for the San Francisco 49ers.
Quarterback Mac Jones, already serving in relief duty for the injured Brock Purdy, told reporters after Sunday’s 16-15 win over the Arizona Cardinals that he reaggravated the same PCL sprain that hampered him during training camp.
“I had a little injury that I just re-aggravated,” Jones told reporters. “I’m good. I took the brace off because I wasn’t moving around very well, and then I put it back on after that. I felt like it affected my play a little bit, which I was disappointed about. … Anytime you’re fighting through stuff, I know everybody has my back. The offensive line did a great job this game keeping me clean for the most part. Just to be able to come together at the end and finish like we talked about on the sideline, like, ‘Hey, we got nothing to lose. Let’s go get it.’ The players made plays, so it was awesome, to be honest.”
Jones, 27, has been called upon in the past two weeks with Purdy sidelined and has responded, throwing for 563 yards, four touchdowns and an interception while taking four sacks and completing 66.3 percent of his passes. He had to do so on Sunday without key offensive playmakers like George Kittle, Jauan Jennings and Brandon Aiyuk, all out injured.
Granted, the hapless New Orleans Saints and the erratic Cardinals helped his cause in the two wins. But the Niners needed Jones to help keep them afloat the past two weeks and he more than fulfilled his duty, driving the team down the field in the final 1:46 to get into field goal range for the game-winning kick.
“I’ve failed a lot in that situation in the NFL, to be honest, and I just know the guys had my back,” he told reporters about that final drive. “And like we talked about on the sidelines, ‘Let’s go out there and rip it.’ One play at a time and erase everything that had happened. … I’ve had a lot of potential game-winning drives in my career, and a lot of quarterbacks have. I’ve done well in them, and I’ve done pretty bad in them, too, so I really was just motivated to change the narrative. And this team, I feel like they have my back.”
Jones handled his backup duties with aplomb. Now, however, the beat-up 49ers will be hoping to get Purdy and several other players back and healthy.

The San Francisco 49ers had to finish the end of their contest against the Arizona Cardinals without a key piece of the defense.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, star defensive end Nick Bosa was ruled out of the game after suffering a knee injury. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero noted that Bosa was seen giving a thumbs-down on the broadcast.
After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that the team believes Bosa has avoided an ACL injury, but is still getting tests done.
Losing Bosa for any amount of time would be a huge blow to the 49ers’ defense. The former No. 2 overall pick has recorded 15 tackles, two sacks and four tackles for loss through two games this season and had two tackles before his injury on Sunday.
If Bosa is dealing with a long-term injury, it would only add to a laundry list of ailments for the 49ers.

TAMPA, Fla. — Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette sought a second opinion Monday on his injured knee and could initially return to the lineup at designated hitter.
Sidelined since Sept. 7 with a sprained left knee, Bichette was in Dallas on Monday afternoon getting examined by Dr. Dan Cooper. Blue Jays manager John Schneider said there was nothing new to report, and the appointment was simply part of the recovery process.
“It doesn’t change our thinking,” Schneider said before Monday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. “It gives him and us some clarity.”
Toronto began the night with the best record in the American League (87-62) and a four-game lead in the AL East over the New York Yankees with 13 to play.

The 27-year-old Bichette, a two-time All-Star, was injured Sept. 6 on a play at home plate against the Yankees and landed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Sept. 7.
The Blue Jays have stressed patience, but Schneider acknowledged Bichette could return at DH before he’s ready to play defense.
“In a perfect world, if he can come back and play short, great,” Schneider said. “We’ll see how this goes. With how he’s moving, it seems to me that hitting will be a little bit in front of everything else. I think we’ll know more tomorrow or the next day, but if we can get his bat back, hell yeah, I’ll take that.”
Bichette was having a strong season before the injury, batting .311 with 18 home runs, 94 RBIs and an .840 OPS in 139 games. He leads the majors in hits (181) and doubles (44).
Bichette, who can become a free agent after the World Series this year, is the son of former major league slugger Dante Bichette.
