Dominik Mysterio was recently asked about the possibility of defending his WWE Intercontinental Championship against John Cena.
Cena has never been Intercontinental Champion in the quarter-century he’s spent in WWE. Dominik was asked about possibly giving Cena a shot at the title before he retires by the Graps & Yaps podcast recently.
Dominik responded:
“I mean, at the end of the day, I’m here, if John Cena wants some he can come get some. He’s got four dates left you said? I mean if that old geezer wants me to put a final nail in his coffin, I’ll be more than happy to. That’s what I’m here for. I’m here to be and stay your Dirty double champ.”
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, our own Dave Meltzer noted that Dominik vs. Cena for the Intercontinental title is listed for WWE Survivor Series on November 29 in Dominik’s home city of San Diego. It’s the last date Cena is scheduled for before his retirement match on December 13 in Washington. Cena is also scheduled for the November 10 WWE Raw in Boston, and the November 17 Raw in Madison Square Garden leading up to Survivor Series.
Dominik’s comments are available below:

It seems almost every WWE Superstar would love to be John Cena‘s opponent in his final match.
John Cenaâ€s final WWE match is quickly approaching. But only one man will get the right to say that they shared the ring with Cena for his final match in December at Saturday Nightâ€s Main Event. While reports suggest Gunther will get this honor, other people continue to throw their names in the hat.
WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio recently spoke with Graps & Yaps. When asked what he thought about John Cena potentially coming after his title in pursuit of becoming a Grand Slam Champion, Mysterio said if Cena wants him to put the final nail in his coffin, heâ€d be more than happy to do so.
“I mean, at the end of the day, Iâ€m here,†Dominik Mysterio said. “If John Cena wants some, he can come get some. Heâ€s got four dates left, you said? I mean, if that old geezer wants me to put a final nail in his coffin, Iâ€ll be more than happy to. Thatâ€s what Iâ€m here for. Iâ€m here to be and stay your dirty double champ.â€
John Cena has spoken highly of Dirty Dom in the past
Earlier this year, John Cena appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and offered high praise for Dominik Mysterio, calling him incredible and going as far as to say that heâ€ll be the most famous Mysterio in wrestling when itâ€s all said and done.
“Dom Mysterio is born for this, period,†John Cena said. “And I got to work with him very early in his career. And Iâ€ve had the chance to work with experienced talent, but Iâ€ve also had the chance to work with a lot of new talent. You can tell right away. Thereâ€s always late arrivals. People can not get it and then figure it out. Iâ€m a living example of that.
“But thereâ€s also those people, like, I remember Randy Orton just making everything look so easy. Dom just makes everything effortless, and he doesnâ€t crack under pressure. And any pool weâ€ve dropped him in, he has not only tread water, heâ€s swimming laps around everybody else.
“Dom Mysterio, we ainâ€t even close to what that kidâ€s capable of. Heâ€s incredible, and heâ€s going to be incredible for the next 20 years, or as long as he wants to be in this business. He will be, and I love his dad like heâ€s another one. Thereâ€s a close connection. I love that dude. He will be the most famous Mysterio in professional wrestling.â€

John Cena’s retirement match caused major plans to be changed by a WWE Hall of Famer.
Last year, John Cena confirmed that 2025 will mark the final year he will compete in WWE as a superstar before officially retiring in December. Throughout his Farewell Tour, he faced the likes of AJ Styles, CM Punk, Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and more. After Crown Jewel last weekend, he only has four appearances left before his retirement match.
Last month, WWE confirmed that John Cena’s last match will occur on December 13, at Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Although a final match for The Cenation Leader has already been announced, his final opponent has yet to be revealed.
Throughout his Farewell Tour, John Cena paid tribute to his former rivals by doing their finishers during his matches. Now, it’s one of his former rivals’ turns to honor the 17-time World Champion before he officially hangs up the boots.
Booker T Moves Wrestling Event For John Cena’s WWE Retirement Match
On X (Twitter), Booker T, WWE Hall of Famer and owner of the Reality of Wrestling promotion, announced that he will move the company’s Subzero event to December 20 so that fans can properly support John Cena’s retirement match. The two-time Hall of Famer added that he wanted the wrestling world to come together to watch and honor The Cenation Leader as he wrestles for the final time.
In honor of @JohnCenaâ€s final match taking place December 13th on Saturday Nightâ€s Main Event, we at @TheOfficialROW have made the decision to move our annual winter event, #SubZero, to December 20th. Some moments in this business are bigger than any one show — and this is one of them. We want the entire wrestling world to come together to watch, reflect, and honor the greatest of all time as he takes his final bow. #ThankYouJohn“

John Cena and Booker T shared the ring several times since 2004, mainly feuding for the United States title. At that year’s No Mercy event, the former defeated the latter in a Best of Five Series match to become the new US Champion.

Booker Tâ€s Reality of Wrestling has postponed an event originally scheduled for the same date as John Cenaâ€s retirement match.
ROW Sub Zero was to take place on December 13. However, Booker posted to social media on Wednesday that they are pushing the event back a week so as not to conflict with Saturday Nightâ€s Main Event in Washington, DC, that night, which will feature the final match of Cenaâ€s career.
Booker wrote:

The pre-sale for tickets to the December 13 show went on sale today, and fans are reporting long waits to purchase tickets online, with some saying over 50,000 potential buyers were ahead of them. The event is being held at the Capital One Center, home to the Washington Capitals, Wizards, and Mystics.
As for who Cena will face in his final match, Dave Meltzer reported recently that a tournament will be held with the winner facing Cena on the show, and that Gunther is expected to win. Meltzerâ€s article is available for subscribers here.

WWE legend The Rock has discussed John Cena’s final opponent in WWE and who should make the decision to choose his opponent.
During his recent appearance on the “New Heights” podcast hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce, The Rock initially joked that it should be him to face Cena in his final match. He, though, put the ball in Cena’s court, arguing how Cena has earned the right to decide whom he wants to face in his final match.
“I have a tiny bit of influence in the booking of it. But it really is just whoever John wants,” The Rock said. “Really, that’s what it comes down to. Whoever he wants, that should be [it]. It’s not me or Nick Khan, or Triple H [to decide]. It’s just whoever John wants. That guy has earned it.”Â
The Rock praised his former on-screen ally and rival, lauding the 17-time world champion’s authenticity.
“The best part about John is, he comes as advertised. So who you think he is, that’s who he is. And he’s a good dude. And I love that guy,” he added.
While The Rock and Triple H have claimed that it’s down to whom Cena wants to face in his retirement run, Cena himself has said that he doesn’t choose whom he faces, leaving that decision to WWE management.Â
Cena’s last match will take place at Saturday Night’s Main Event in the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on December 13. One person who will not be a part of Cena’s retirement tour — or his final match — is AEW’s Adam Copeland, aka Edge in WWE, who was one of Cena’s greatest rivals. The name that’s been doing the rounds is former WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER, who has been on the sidelines since his match at SummerSlam.

John Cena’s list of opponents extends across WWE legends and promising stars of the industry.
The Cenation Leader’s retirement tour features many feuds for the last time. The most recent addition to that list was AJ Styles at Crown Jewel. He appreciated Styles’ contributions to wrestling, which was evident when he handed over a heartfelt note to announcer Alicia Taylor highlighting the same.
The 17-time WWE World Champion has already faced Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, and more in his last year of wrestling.
New feuds are anticipated on the horizon. Internal discussions are being held for John Cena to face Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Title in November. On the other hand, many names on the WWE roster are looking to amp their resumes by facing the WWE veteran in his farewell tour.
Karrion Kross Pitches For John Cena to Face 40-Year-Old Former WWE Star
NXT and TNA’s Showdown last week led to crossover matches this week. Matt Cardona officially returned to WWE at the Performance Center to take on Josh Briggs.
Former WWE Star Karrion Kross immediately took to social media after the show to pitch for John Cena vs. Matt Cardona. Kross himself was let go by the company in August after his contract expired. His last match was at SummerSlam against Sami Zayn. Towards the end of his tenure, it seemed as if he was heading for a career-altering push, which was derailed by the contract expiration.
“Matt Cardona VS John Cena is something that should happen before itâ€s too late. Let him come home.”

Kross has been competing across independent promotions since his WWE release. He has not backed down from addressing various matters and stars relating to the company. Meanwhile, Matt Cardona’s feud with Josh Briggs seems to be the beginning of a lengthy comeback to WWE.
Part of John Cena‘s commitment to Peacemaker was learning how to get tased.
DCâ€s Peacemaker recently wrapped up its second season on HBO Max. One of the episodes features Freddie Stromaâ€s Vigilante tackling Cenaâ€s Christopher Smith character before knocking him unconscious with a taser.
As showrunner James Gunn explained during Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, John Cena specifically asked what kind of reaction they wanted from him for the scene in which Chris Smith gets tasered by Vigilante.
“We have the moment, itâ€s a great moment where earlier, Freddie [Stroma]â€s character, Vigilante, said, ‘Why donâ€t you just tackle him?†and says heâ€s an idiot for not doing it. And then in this scene, they try to stop Christopher Smith from leaving, and Vigilante tackles him and tases him,†Gunn explained. “Effectively! Everyone screamed and Johnâ€s tased.
“I remember being on set, John was like, ‘What should I do exactly?†So we were looking up videos of people being tased so that he could act like someone that was tased. That was kinda what they looked like.â€
John Cena competed at WWEâ€s most recent premium live event, Crown Jewel, in Australia this past Saturday. The GOAT faced AJ Styles in a match that WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker described as a masterclass.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has opened up about his involvement in determining John Cena’s final WWE opponent.
Speaking on the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, The Rock made it clear that the 17-time world champion should have the final say in choosing his retirement match opponent. However, he further talked about his own involvement, revealing he holds only a small amount of sway in the decision-making process.
The Rock said that he has a “tiny bit of influence” in the booking of the match.
I have a tiny bit of influence in the booking of it, but it really is just whoever John wants, really thats what it comes down to. Whoever he wants, itâ€s not me, Nick Khan, or Triple H. It’s whoever John wants. That guyâ€s earned it, and you know what, the best part about John is, he comes as advertised, so who you think he is, thatâ€s who he is, and heâ€s a good dude, and I love that guy.”
He appreciated Cena’s kind nature and added that Cena was a “good dude”.
He’s a good dude, man. And kind. He’s really cool. And that stuff matters to me these days, any day. But like if somebody’s kind and cool.” (1:06:24 – 1:06:33)
The Rock’s comments come as Cena prepares for his final WWE match on December 13, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C. As a board member of WWE’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings, The Rock does maintain some influence within the organization, but he believes Cena has earned the right to choose his own farewell opponent after more than two decades in the ring.

Who is John Cena’s Final Opponent?
Cena announced his retirement from in-ring competition at Money in the Bank in July 2024, revealing that 2025 would mark the end of his legendary WWE career. His farewell tour has included high-profile matches against wrestlers like Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles, with his recent Crown Jewel victory over Styles being one of his final scheduled bouts.
While WWE has not officially announced Cena’s final opponent, multiple reports suggest that the Ring General Gunther has been internally selected for the historic match. According to Wrestling Observer‘s Dave Meltzer, several sources within WWE have confirmed that Gunther is the chosen opponent, with plans potentially including an on-screen tournament to determine the challenger.
The Ring General would represent a fitting final opponent for Cena, as Gunther has established himself as one of WWE’s premier villains. He previously held the Intercontinental Championship for a record-breaking 666 days and has already retired wrestling legend Goldberg earlier this year.
The matchup would allow Cena to pass the torch to a younger generation while providing Gunther with a career-defining victory.

John Cena’s WWE Farewell Tour was about pulling off the Never Seen 17th World Title win, a heel turn fans salivated over during his career peak, and most importantly, a love letter to his wrestling career.
He squared off with some of his iconic past rivals, like Randy Orton, CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, and AJ Styles. One name that did not make the list was Rob Van Dam.
At ECW One Night Stand 2006, John Cena likely experienced, for the first time, a completely one-sided hostile reaction from the fans, with signs that read “If Cena wins, we riot” displayed in the crowd. That match against Van Dam in New York City was one of Cena’s career highlights, as he fell to RVD following too many shenanigans, much to the delight of the people.
Rob Van Dam Details The Conversation He Had With WWE Regarding A Match Against John Cena
Rob Van Dam had recently claimed that he was considered for John Cena’s WWE Farewell Tour in 2025 until his injury rendered it impossible.
Now, on WrestleBinge, Van Dam gave in to renowned journalist Bill Apter’s question about whether he was actually in talks with WWE’s higher-ups regarding a match as part of Cena’s Farewell Tour.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I did,” Van Dam said. “At first, I didn’t think [WWE] would be as interested as they apparently were, and so, I started to get a little excited about it. I don’t know if they actually talked to John [Cena] about it, you know? But one of the times, when I was talking to someone about it, they–I don’t remember if it was Paul [Levesque] or Paul [Heyman] in this conversation, but either way, they were like, ‘If John wants to do it, Boom! It’s a shoo-in; for sure. We just need to sell it to him,’ and I was like, ‘All right.’”
The ECW legend noted that WWE was interested in booking their match in Philadelphia, the home of Extreme Championship Wrestling. However, the double heel fracture he suffered in April changed everything.
And so, I don’t know if John was actually aware of it or not, but I was talking to the office about doing it, and was told, ‘If we’re in Philly, it’s a shoo-in.’ Easy. If we’re not doing a show in Philly, well, that doesn’t mean we can’t do it, but we’ll have to think about it; figure it out.’
I was feeling pretty good about the direction it was going, and then, I’m off my feet for most of the year with two broken heels,” RVD concluded.
John Cena’s last match against AJ Styles this past Saturday saw him and Styles pay tribute to many of their past rivals. The Phenomenal One is also in the twilight of his wrestling career, as he confirmed retirement in 2026.
WWE Crown Jewel Highlights:WWEâ€s Premium Live Event, Crown Jewel 2025, took place at the RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia, Australia. This was the first time in WWEâ€s history that the Crown Jewel event took place outside of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, since its inception in 2028. In the 2024 Crown Jewel, WWE introduced a new concept of Crown Jewel Champions, where both Men’s and Womenâ€s World Champions from each brand will face each other for the Crown Jewel Championship. The first-ever Menâ€s Crown Jewel Champion was Cody Rhodes, and the first-ever Womenâ€s Crown Jewel Champion was Liv Morgan.Â
WWE has been building multiple storylines for this premium live event, and the Crown Jewel 2025â€s full match included an Australian Street fight between Roman Reigns and Bronson Reed. This show also featured many historic matches like John Cena vs AJ Styles, the Womenâ€s Crown Jewel Championship match, and Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky vs the Kabuki Warriors. Yesterday on SmackDown, it was already announced that the main event for this show will be the Menâ€s Crown Jewel Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

After the match ended, there was a segment where Reigns said to Usos, “I donâ€t wanna you both till Christmas.â€
Stephanie Vaquer vs Tiffany Stratton
The WWE Womenâ€s Champion, Tiffany Stratton, faced the WWE Womenâ€s World Champion, Stephanie Vaquer, for the Womenâ€s Crown Jewel Championship. After the match, Triple H came out to congratulate her, and after that, Vaquer delivered an emotional promo saying, thank you to everybody in the WWE universe.
John Cena vs AJ Styles
John Cena faced AJ Styles for the last time in a one-on-one match. During Pre Crown Jewel Show, Styles also announced his retirement from WWE, stating that next year will be his last year in professional wrestling. This match went on for more than 30 minutes, and during this match, we saw John Cena and AJ Styles incorporating moves from many other Superstars. At the end of the match, Cena used a Tombstone Piledriver and then an AA to secure victory in this match via pinfall.
Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky vs the Kabuki Warriors
After weeks of build-up, we finally saw Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky face the team of Kairi Sane and Asuka in a tag team match. As Rhea Ripley made her entrance, she received a huge pop from her home audience. At the end of the match, Sane saved Asuka from a big boot, and after that, Ripley pulled Asuka back in the ring, and Iyo Sky delivered her moonsault to Asuka and secured the victory for her team via pinfall.
Cody Rhodes vs Seth Rollins
As it was already advertised, the WWE Undisputed Champion, Cody, faced the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins, in a one-on-one match for the Menâ€s Crown Jewel Championship. This match went on for almost 40 minutes, and at the end of the match, we saw Rollins using the watch that Rhodes gifted to him at WrestleMania 40 to punch Rhodes, and then delivered 2 curb stomps. With that, for the time in his career, Rollins defeated Rhodes in a one-on-one match and also won the Menâ€s Crown Jewel Championship. After the match, Rollins delivered a promo stating that tonight he proved that he is the greatest wrestler in this company. This show went off air with both new Menâ€s and Womenâ€s Crown Jewel Champions standing tall in the ring.
