Was one of the greatest golf courses in the United States taken over by … robots?

On Friday morning, the New York State Inspector General’s office released a months-long report on the state of the tee time system at Bethpage State Park, looking into allegations of software bots and tee time resellers that have plagued the municipal golf haven (and recent Ryder Cup host) for years. The investigation, which began after a separate investigation into the tee time system by the golf writer Kevin Van Valkenburg, aimed to understand why booking irregularities had become an accepted piece of the state park’s online reservation system among golfers at each of the park’s five golf courses. Specifically, the investigation tried to answer if tee time “bots” — or software programs targeted to scoop up times faster than any human user — were to blame for the irregularities, as Van Valkenburg’s No Laying Uppodcast first alleged.

Nine months after Van Valkenburg’s first report, the IG’s office report found bots posed a “serious threat” to the integrity of the Bethpage Tee Time system, though the Inspector General was unable to find any concrete evidence of bot usage.

The IG’s office produced a host of unusual data in the report, including a tranche of tee time data for the period between April and August 2024. According to the report, more than half of all the tee times booked on Bethpage’s five golf courses (57,587 of 105,000, or 55 percent), and nearly sixty percentof those booked on the fabled Black Course (9,462 of 16,365, or 57 percent), resulted in cancellations during those five months. Even if that datapoint made it impossible to ascertain the cause, the unusually high number suggested irregularities with some portion of the tee time system.

The report did not find evidence of tee time “resellers,” or those booking times illegally and reselling at a higher price, but the unusually high number of cancellations indicated there were loopholes that could be exploited — and perhaps werebeing exploited — by bad actors.

“This data could suggest that some users are exploiting a loophole to evade Bethpage’s prohibition on the transfer of tee times,” The report reads. “For example, if a golfer reserves a tee time that they want to transfer to another golfer despite this prohibition, the first golfer could cancel their reservation at an off-hour (for example, at 3:00 a.m.) so the second golfer can attempt to claim it when the reservation is re-released into the system.”

Ultimately, the IG’s office ruled that tee time bots were a “serious threat to the integrity of the booking systems,” and recommended a series of changes aimed at ensuring fair access for all who book tee times at Bethpage by disincentivizing (or outright removing) software programs from the system. One specific option, an identification verification system called ID.me which is frequently used by other branches of New York State government, would help authenticate every tee time booked through the system before it was finalized.

Those changes might sound familiar to golfers based in New York: They were many of the same changes implementedby the New York State Parks Department over the last several months. Earlier this year, the department instituted stricter rules regarding cancellations and the upfront payment of a “booking fee” in an effort to disincentivize bad actors. The department then doubled down on that approach in the days after the Ryder Cup, announcing the creation of a two-factor authentication system that would ensure all tee time reservations were executed by human beings.

Drama around the Bethpage Parks tee time system has increased in 2025 as Bethpage Black has welcomed the attention of the golf world in a historically busy playing season surrounding the Ryder Cup. As the “People’s Country Club” prepared for its moment in the limelight, the wait time for parking lot tee times on the fabled Black Course stretched in some instances to two days.

In the end, the Inspector General’s office said it was the spirit of these golfers that necessitated serious actions to defend against bots.

“If left unaddressed, such bot usage risks eroding public trust, limiting equitable access to tee times, and creating the perception that the system favors those who can exploit technology rather than those who follow normal booking procedures,” The report said. “For these reasons, adopting safeguards against bot activity is essential to preserving both the integrity of the system and fair access for all players.”

Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown said the NBA isn’t doing enough to protect players from issues surrounding sports betting, speaking about the issue a day after a prominent player and coach were arrested for their alleged roles in a nationwide gambling scandal.

“They’re like, ‘You make X amount of money or X, Y and Z, you should be able to deal with all the extra negativity, the people approaching you about the parlays,'” Brown said Friday at Madison Square Garden before the Celtics face the New York Knicks. “It creates a negative discourse around the game and players when people have money involved. … It’s leading to situations that we can avoid if more conversations were had right now.”

Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier were among dozens who were indicted Thursday from a pair of federal investigations. Rozier allegedly informed a friend that he would pull himself from a March 2023 game while he was with the Charlotte Hornets, with hundreds of thousands of dollars of bets made on Rozier under props for the contest.

While Billups’ charges are related to his alleged role in rigged poker games, he also matches the description of a co-conspirator who allegedly told a bettor in advance that a number of Trail Blazers starters would miss a March 2023 game.

Billups, Rozier among 34 arrested by FBI

Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups, Heat guard Terry Rozier, and former Cavaliers player and assistant coach Damon Jones were arrested as part of a pair of wide-ranging investigations related to illegal sports betting and rigged poker games backed by the Mafia, authorities announced.

• FAQ: What we know about the cases
• Timeline: Sports betting scandals since 2018
• Wetzel: True cost of sports betting
• From 2024: Jontay Porter banned for life

Attorneys for both Billups and Rozier said their clients dispute the allegations against them.

Brown, who is a vice president for the National Basketball Players Association, said he wants to help get to the bottom of what happened. But he also lamented the NBA not doing enough proactively or reactively to help players.

“I don’t think once, from my conversations with the union, that the NBA has been like, ‘How can we protect players more with the environment?'” Brown said. “There’s been little to no conversation around that. It’s all about, a lot of times, ‘How can we increase business and increase revenue?’ I don’t think we’re having enough conversations about what is the aftermath or the consequences that some of that stuff has.”

Brown and Rozier were teammates on the Celtics from 2016 to 2019. Brown said the allegations against Rozier were “not conducive of his character” but noted that the union has an investigative team to look into the matter.

“Obviously, if those guys are innocent, it’s not a great look for them publicly and media-wise, so we’ve got to make sure if they are exonerated, then their images are cleaned up,” Brown said. “But I think right now, just kind of getting all the information and getting to the bottom of it is the most important thing.”

Offense has been a slog for the Houston Texans at the start of the 2025 season, but head coach DeMeco Ryans isn’t blaming offensive coordinator Nick Caley or anyone else but himself.

“We’re pressing forward with everybody that we have,” he told reporters Tuesday. “If you all want to point the finger, it all starts with me. Ultimately it’s my job to get it fixed. We’re rolling with what we have and we’ve all got to do better.”

Houston entered the season as the back-to-back reigning AFC South champion and surely expected more of the same in 2025. However, it is just 2-4 after Monday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks and well behind the 6-1 Indianapolis Colts in the division race.

Offense has been the primary issue, as it is 21st in the league in points per game and 23rd in yards per game.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud has solid-but-unspectacular numbers while completing 64.8 percent of his passes for 1,305 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions, but he is under constant duress because of a poor offensive line and hasn’t shown the same type of consistency as he did when he threw for 4,108 yards as a rookie in 2023.

Houston’s first offensive touchdown in Sunday’s 27-19 loss didn’t come until there were fewer than three minutes remaining in the game.

It remained within striking distance thanks in large part to a defensive touchdown in the third quarter, but the offense never found a rhythm in the loss. That it came after a bye week and two straight wins likely made it all the more frustrating.

The next three games are against teams with winning records in the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars, so the Texans need to figure something out on the offensive side relatively quickly before the season slips away from them.

And Ryans made it clear finding that solution is his responsibility.

Needless to say, Fairmont hotels will not be a stop on Chelsea Green‘s presidential tour.

Last year, Chelsea Green looked to celebrate WWE WrestleMania 40 week with a drink at The Plaza Hotel, located in New York City. Before she could enjoy an alcoholic beverage, however, hotel security escorted Green out of the building due to staffâ€s belief that she was an escort based on her attire.

After the April 2024 incident, the Fairmont Hotel chain (which owns the Plaza Hotel and several others across the world) offered Green a free two-night stay of her choice for anywhere in the world. Despite this, the luxury hotel chain still forcefully booked Green for a stay in her hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. When Green then tried to change the location of this stay, an executive relayed that her certificate for it was now invalid.

Green shared the email confirmation she received from The Plaza Hotelâ€s executive assistant informing her of the decision to change the terms the offer.

“Dear Ms. Green, Thank you for your email,†wrote the executive. “Regrettably, we are unable to change the location of the certificate as this was honored by our sister Fairmont, Pacific Rim in Vancouver, and it is non-transferable. In addition, I regret to inform you that the validity of this certificate has since expired as it is valid within 12 months of issued date. Warm regards, Andrea Escobar.â€

Greenâ€s Fight For Justice Continues

According to Green, she would rather spend time in her actual home in Vancouver than have accommodations at a nearby hotel. As such, the former WWE Womenâ€s United States Champion is continuing the fight to claim her free stay elsewhere.

“Your girl just wants her free stay at a @FairmontHotels for being called a hooker… is that too much to ask!?†she wrote alongside an image of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

WrestleZone will provide further updates on this injustice as they become available.

An iconic WWE duo seemingly teased a potential matchup between AJ Styles and Dragon Lee following this week’s episode of RAW.

The unlikely duo challenged for the World Tag Team Championship against current holders, The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and JD McDonagh). After a back-and-forth at the end of the title match, Styles nailed the Styles Clash on Balor to win his second tag-team championship (the other one coming with Omos). As a result, the “AJ Lee” tandem broke the 112-day reign of The Judgment Day duo, who last defended the titles on the July 28th episode of RAW against LWO (Joaquin Wilde and Cruz del Toro).

Following their historic title win, a member of this legendary WWE tag team seemingly hinted at challenging Styles and Lee. Posting on X (fka Twitter), Matt Hardy, one-half of The Hardy Boyz, posted a picture of himself and his brother Jeff Hardy holding their NXT Tag Team and TNA World Tag Team Championships.

He then had this to say:

“What an unexpected Twist of Fate,” Hardy captioned.

You may check out his tweet here.

The Hardy brothers won the TNA Tag Team Title at Slammiversary against the Nemeths (Nick and Ryan), Fir$t Cla$$, and The Rascalz, while they won the NXT belts at NXT vs. TNA Showdown against DarkState.

AJ Styles and Dragon Lee Share Ideas About Their Tag Team Name in WWE

After winning the World Tag Team Championships from The Judgment Day, AJ Styles and Dragon Lee exchanged proposals for their permanent identity as a duo.

When the masked superstar asked the former WWE Champion what their team name should be, the latter first said P.Lee (Phenomenal Lee) and followed it up with “Dragon Styles.”

Lee then gave his idea by indicating that their name should be “Phenomenal Dragons” or “AJ Lee.” Styles sarcastically claimed someone already had the latter name, which was a cheeky referenfce at CM Punk’s wife, AJ Lee.

The Phenomenal One ended by saying that whatever their tag team name would be, they will put it on the “world wide web.”

Former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Justin Credible has opened up about his past issues with substance abuse and stated that heâ€s been sober since last year.

ECW original Justin Credible reunited with his old on-screen valet Francine in her Eyes Up Here with Francine podcast, where he spoke about his battle with addiction. He stated that it started with opioids during his ECW and WWE days and credited the latterâ€s rehab program in 2011 and the medication Suboxone for saving his life.

He said he hasnâ€t taken opioids since 2011, but stated that he relapsed with alcohol later.

“I havenâ€t taken an opioid since 2011. Something in me said, ‘Well, you know, itâ€s not that bad if I have a drink once in a whileâ€â€¦ that led to me just being a full blown drunk, drinking day and night,†Credible said (h/t WrestlingNews.co).

Justin Credible said his addiction led to legal issues, which stemmed from domestic incidents while being intoxicated. It led to the issue of a protective order, which he violated repeatedly and spent 45 days in prison as a result.

“The first incident was with my father… I specifically said to him, ‘Oh, Iâ€ll kill you.†He called the cops, and thatâ€s a threat. Every time there was a an argument or a drunken fueled debauchery, theyâ€d come and Iâ€m not supposed to be on the property. I spent 45 days in jail.â€

He then stated that heâ€s been sober since December 14 last year. Speaking about how his life outside wrestling is going, Jutin Credible revealed that he is starting a new job at Chiliâ€s in December.

Justin Credibleâ€s most recent in-ring appearance took place on August 2, 2025, when he competed in a Hardcore match against Sycho Simon at a Memphis Wrestling event.

Tony Khan has commented on the WrestleDream steaming issues.

During the PPV post show, the AEW President was asked about the Amazon Prime video feed cutting multiple times during the show. Khan mentioned that it was something completely out of their control:

“Itâ€s something out of AEWâ€s control. It was a technical problem with the Amazon delivery. I think our other streams are unaffected. It was something with their systems internally there.”

Some fans were able to get refunds from Amazon after complaining to their helpdesk. The E-commerce giant however has not addressed the issues officially or announced wider compensation for everyone who bought the PPV through them.

Tony Khan mentioned how the whole thing reminded him of similar issues with Death Before Dishonor PPV earlier this year. At that time, the company had given free Honor Club credits to users and put the whole show on YouTube for free:

“I thought the show was perfect, the wrestling was perfect and the replayâ€s gonna be available there for everybody through them and I think theyâ€ll address that and hopefully Amazon will get that figured out but for AEW, everybody here did a fantastic job.

I was really glad to hear that HBO Max delivered the pay-per-view without any issues. All of our other providers did really well. But that was an unusual thing and it did remind me because we had a problem with just certain web browsers that were affected for that Death Before Dishonor show and in that case, I was able to at least address it because it was a streaming service that I owned,â€

Apart from this, Tony Khan also addressed the surprising absence of Bryan Danielson from WrestleDream commentary and gave two different reasons for it. You can check out what he said here.

AEW stars spoke to the media following AEW WrestleDream.

Brodido, Kris Statlander, Kyle Fletcher, and Tony Khan all took questions following the events of Saturday’s AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view in St. Louis, Missouri. Here are the highlights:

Bandido and Brody King

  • When asked about his upcoming match against Kazuchika Okada on Wednesday, Bandido said they were going to see who is the best.
  • Talking about his struggles to get where he is now, Bandido said he had a concussion at the start of the year but everyone still believed in him. He is blessed for his life and for himself as a person, heâ€s really happy with everything and hopes to do the best for all the fans.

Kris Statlander

  • Statlander was asked if she wanted to headline Full Gear next month against Mercedes Mone and have it be a title for title match. She said that while sheâ€d love that, itâ€s okay if it isnâ€t. This is her moment to beat her, sheâ€ll do it any time of the week.
  • When asked how she reinvents herself, Statlander says she’s still in the process of things and commented how it isn’t nice to shame someone for not knowing who they are immediately upon their debut on a national stage.
  • Statlander mentioned that Marina Shafir might be someone to challenge her for the title, but she is open to any and all challengers, even Wheeler Yuta.

Kyle Fletcher

  • Fletcher was asked if this was it between himself and Mark Briscoe. He replied that the score seems to suggest that, but things change in pro wrestling constantly.
  • When asked about his World Championship aspirations, Fletcher said that he wanted to focus on the TNT title. He does want to be the greatest of all time, so itâ€s absolutely in his mind, itâ€s just a matter of when.
  • He says he has not checked in on Will Ospreay and immediately asked for the next question.
  • Regarding next challengers for the TNT title, Fletcher said heâ€ll be at Dynamite on Wednesday and anyone that faces him will meet the same result.

Tony Khan

  • Khan called this event one of the greatest shows the company has held.
  • Renee Paquette mentioned that Jon Moxley’s arm was bleeding following the show as the fish tank got him really bad.
  • Khan said Lou Theszâ€s wife Charlie enjoyed the show and was blown away, saying he was glad she was there live.
  • When asked about the Amazon Prime issues, Khan said that was something on Amazon’s end but thankfully other feeds were fine. He was dissapointed that both Death Before Dishonor and this show, two of his favorite shows, had feed problems.
  • Khan said Bryan Danielson had a family obligation and thatâ€s why he wasnâ€t at the show tonight, saying it was probably best to take that commitment considering the main event.
  • Regarding another cross-promotional event during Wrestle Kingdom weekend, Khan seemed to insinuate that the weekend should be focused on Hiroshi Tanahashiâ€s retirement. He said that Konosuke Takeshitaâ€s win was a big deal, putting over his history with the company and said that Takeshita was an AEW guy.
  • Regarding a future Okada vs. Takeshita title for title match, Khan said it would be a very interesting thing to happen, but has no control over the IWGP World Championship in NJPW. It would be something to keep an eye on. Heâ€s excited about Bandido vs, Okada this Wednesday on Dynamite.
