The Indiana Pacers’ early-season injury woes continued to mount Tuesday when forward Obi Toppin and guard Bennedict Mathurin became the latest players dealing with long-term injuries.

Toppin will be out for at least a month with a right hamstring strain, and Mathurin is “week-to-week” with a right big toe sprain, Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said Tuesday. That brought Indiana’s total to eight players who are already listed as out on the injury report for Wednesday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Entering the season, Indiana already expected to be without point guard Tyrese Haliburton, who is out for the season with a torn Achilles, and backup T.J. McConnell, who was expected to miss the first month with a left hamstring strain. But the team’s roster has been further decimated just one week into the season.

Starting guard Andrew Nembhard left the season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder with a strained left shoulder. Although he participated in a portion of Tuesday’s practice, Carlisle did not provide an update on his timeline for a return.

Mathurin and Toppin left during Sunday’s loss against the Timberwolves. Mathurin had been off to a strong start, averaging 31 points and seven rebounds on 55% shooting; Toppin was averaging 14 points and seven boards off the bench.

The Pacers also expect reserves Taelon Peter (groin), Johnny Furphy (foot) and Kam Jones (lower back) to miss Wednesday’s game. To help address the injuries at guard and wing, the Pacers signed three-time dunk contest champion guard Mac McClung on Monday and waived center James Wiseman.

The Pacers are off to their third 0-3 start in the past 11 seasons. They made the playoffs the two previous times, in 2015-16 and 2019-20.

Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg doesn’t anticipate his shoulder injury will be a problem going forward.

Speaking to reporters after Monday’s 101-94 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Flagg said his shoulder is “a little sore” and he will have some scans done, but expects to be “good to go.”

Flagg appeared to injure his left shoulder on the first possession of the game while boxing out for a rebound. He was able to stay in and play 31 minutes, but head coach Jason Kidd pulled him with 8:14 remaining when they were trailing by 19.

Dallas cut the deficit to 95-91 with 1:25 remaining and Flagg was subbed back in twice for defensive purposes. He finished the game with just two points on 1-of-9 shooting, two rebounds, two steals and no assists.

On the heels of a disastrous three-month stretch at the end of last season that started with trading Luka DonÄić to the Los Angeles Lakers in February, the Mavs got the ultimate bail out in the lottery when they won the No. 1 pick in a year with a superstar prospect at the top of the class.

Flagg will be counted on to be the new face of the franchise, but the early returns from his rookie season show there’s a lot of room for growth with him and the team around him.

Monday’s loss dropped the Mavericks to 1-3. They rank last in the NBA in offense by rating and points per game. Things will improve as the season goes on, especially when they get Kyrie Irving back from a torn ACL.

Ultimately, though, the most important thing for Dallas this season is Flagg’s development. He has NBA-ready tools despite being just 18 years old, but there’s going to be a transition period before he is completely able to dominate at this level.

Losing any reps early in his career is a setback for Flagg, but the Mavs also have to be careful to ensure they aren’t risking him doing any long-term damage to his body.

The Mavericks are off on Tuesday before hosting the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.

England are “optimistic” that Sophie Ecclestone will be fit to play in Wednesday’s Women’s World Cup semi-final against South Africa after suffering a shoulder injury.

Left-arm spinner Ecclestone, who is the world’s top-ranked bowler in one-day internationals, fell awkwardly on her bowling shoulder while fielding during Sunday’s win over New Zealand in their final group stage game.

She was only able to bowl four balls in the game, though did pick up a wicket, before having to leave the field for treatment.

“Results of an MRI scan on Ecclestone’s left shoulder indicate a minor injury to the joint next to her collar bone,” said the England and Wales Cricket Board.

“She will continue to be assessed ahead of the semi-final against South Africa.”

Ecclestone is England’s joint-leading wicket-taker in the World Cup so far, with 12 scalps alongside fellow left-arm spinner Linsey Smith.

“We’re expecting her to be all right,” captain Nat Sciver-Brunt told BBC Sport.

“Sophie is such a huge player for us so it’ll be great for her to be on that pitch tomorrow.”

England finished second to Australia at the end of the group stage and take on the Proteas in Guwahati at 09:30 GMT, having thrashed Laura Wolvaardt’s side in their tournament opener by bowling them out for just 69.

India and Australia play in the second semi-final at Navi Mumbai on Thursday but there is rain forecast throughout the week. Reserve days are in place for all knockout matches.

Shreyas Iyer’s condition critical after suffering life-threatening injury in Sydney | Inside details

Shreyas Iyer remains in the ICU of a Sydney hospital as he continues to recover from the severe fall he suffered during the third ODI against Australia. (Getty Images)

NEW DELHI: Team India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Sydney hospital as he continues to recover from the severe fall he suffered during the third ODI against Australia. Iyer, who took a stunning catch while running backward from point to dismiss Alex Carey, appeared to injure his left rib cage during the effort and was taken to the hospital shortly after returning to the dressing room on Saturday.

WHY WAS IYER RUSHED TO THE ICU?

It has been reliably learnt that Iyerâ€s body vitals dropped to dangerously low levels after the fall, prompting an emergency rush to the hospital in what was a life-threatening situation at that moment. The impact from the fall is believed to have split a body part just below the rib cage, resulting in severe internal bleeding. It is understood that Iyer was not in good condition inside the dressing room and was quickly rushed to the hospital after his blood pressure dropped alarmingly. Those aware of the developments said the situation “could have been touch and go,†but the BCCI medical team and support staff acted swiftly to ensure he received immediate medical care.Iyer is expected to remain in the ICU for at least two more days, though his stay could be extended if the bleeding doesnâ€t subside within the next 48 hours. Should there be no improvement, he is likely to remain under close observation for the coming week. As of now, it is considered certain that he will stay hospitalised for at least seven days.

WHAT IS IYERâ€S INJURY?

According to information accessed by TimesofIndia.com, Iyer may have suffered a splenic rupture, which led to internal bleeding. It is reliably learnt that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is speeding up the formalities to ensure someone from his family can be in Sydney at the earliest. It is not clear at this stage when that will happen.”Arrangements are being made by the BCCI. As of now, it is not clear whether both parents will go, but someone will be with him at the earliest in the hospital,” says a source tracking developments.”As of now, Iyer’s sister was supposed to travel to Australia, and even the paperwork has been initiated, but it could well be the case that one of the parents accompanies her,” adds the source.

WHAT HAS THE BCCI SAID?

In this delicate situation, the BCCI is keeping a close watch on the cricketerâ€s condition and keeping his family updated on every development.”Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25th October 2025. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation,” the BCCI said in an official statement.”Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress.”WHAT IS SPLEEN LACERATION?A ruptured spleen is a serious medical emergency that can lead to dangerous internal bleeding. Because the spleen is highly vascular and fragile, itâ€s one of the most vulnerable organs in the abdomen and can be easily damaged. The spleen, a soft, fist-sized organ in the upper left abdomen, filters and stores about a quarter of the bodyâ€s red blood cells and platelets while producing white blood cells to fight infections. Its delicate structure and thin outer capsule make it highly prone to injury from blunt trauma. A rupture can cause severe internal bleeding and demands immediate medical attention, often requiring surgery. Most splenic ruptures result from traumatic injuries, with car accidents accounting for nearly 50% to 75% of cases. Contact sports such as football and hockey also pose significant risks. In some cases, violent impacts like punches, stabbings, or gunshot wounds can cause the rupture. The spleen may tear immediately upon impact or later due to internal swelling from the injury.

Shreyas Iyer remains under close medical supervision in Sydney but is recovering steadily from the spleen injury he sustained during the third ODI against Australia at the SCG. The 30-year-old India vice-captain has been moved out of intensive care, with the BCCI confirming his condition as “medically stable and recovering well.â€

The incident occurred when Iyer, fielding in the covers, dived to complete a sharp catch off Alex Carey. The impact caused internal bleeding and a laceration to his spleen, as scans later revealed. He was taken from the ground to hospital, where he has remained under the care of team doctor Dr Rizwan Khan and a local specialist team.

BCCI Comments of Shreyas Iyer Injury

A BCCI statement on Monday said:

“Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25. He is under treatment, medically stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status.â€

Family members are expected to travel from Mumbai once visa formalities are completed. For now, Iyer is likely to remain in Sydney for several more days, with no immediate timeline for his return to cricket. Those close to the situation suggest there will be no haste in bringing him back to action.

Iyer, who has been earmarked primarily for Indiaâ€s ODI squad, faces a race against time to recover before the upcoming home series against South Africa, beginning November 30.

The rest of the Indian side has moved on to Canberra for the opening T20I on October 29.

Jinder Mahalâ€s time in WWE was marred by a lot of untimely injuries, especially during his second run. In light of that, Mahal has now revealed how WWE actually botched an injury and made him miss even more time.

While speaking on Inside the Ropes, Jinder Mahal told a crazy story about how he got hurt. He said injuries often seem to happen in threes, like deaths or accidents. First, Mickie James tore her ACL. The next week, Lars Sullivan did the same. Then, the third week, during a live show in Denver, Jinder was wrestling Mustafa Ali in their first singles match.

“Man, you want to hear a crazy story? So, how I got injured — itâ€s wild. They say things come in threes, right? Injuries, deaths… even knee injuries.

So first, Mickie James tears her ACL. The next week, Lars Sullivan tears his ACL. Then, the third week, weâ€re in Denver for a live event. Iâ€m wrestling Mustafa Ali — weâ€re about to have this awesome match, our first singles together. Some of the boys are talking about Lars, saying heâ€d only been back two weeks and already tore his ACL.â€

Before the match, some wrestlers were talking about how Lars had just come back and already got hurt again. Jinder had been in WWE for almost ten years and had never been injured.

Joking around, he said he had tried to get hurt but never could. Then he realized what he said and tried to knock on wood, but the only thing near him was a plastic table. He knocked on it, and that same night, he tore his patella tendon. He said it felt like the universe was teaching him a lesson for being too confident and thinking he couldnâ€t get injured.

“At that time, Iâ€d never been injured. Iâ€d been in WWE maybe ten years without a single major injury. So, I jokingly said, ‘Man, Iâ€ve been trying to get hurt and I donâ€t get hurt!†Then I realized what I said and thought, ‘Oh, I need to knock on wood.†But there was no wood — just a plastic table. So I knocked on that. And that night, I ruptured my patella tendon. True story. Isnâ€t that crazy? I basically put it out in the universe, and the universe humbled me — like it always does. You get too cocky, and you get humbled.

I think this is the first time Iâ€ve even shared that, but yeah, I brought it on myself. I got too confident, thinking I was untouchable. I used to believe I could never get hurt — ten years of matches, every live event, no issues. I said, ‘Iâ€m trying to get hurt, and I canâ€t get hurt.†Knock on wood. Man, if only that table had been wooden.â€

Toward the end of his rehab, his knee started filling up with fluid, which made it sore. When he came back to the Performance Center, he wrestled Akira Tozawa and did a promo where he acted like a good guy. Some people online said he was turning face, but he said that wasnâ€t true, the story was that he would think he was a good guy but still be booed.

The next week, his knee was swollen again, so he asked the doctor to drain it. After the doctor did, Jinder stood up and found his knee completely stuck. The doctor figured out that a piece of torn cartilage had been floating inside, and once the fluid was gone, it jammed in the joint. An MRI confirmed the cartilage tear.

“During the last few weeks of my rehab, my knee started swelling up with fluid. It bothered me a bit, but I came back and wrestled at the Performance Center — I had a match with Akira Tozawa and even did a babyface promo. Because there was no crowd, the so-called ‘dirt sheets†started saying I was turning face, but the real story was I was supposed to think I was a babyface while still being booed — kind of a self-righteous heel.

Anyway, the next week, I go to TV and tell the doctor, ‘Hey doc, my kneeâ€s really full of fluid, can you drain it?†Itâ€s a normal thing — happens all the time. So he drains it and says, ‘Okay, stand up, you should be good as new.†I stand up, and my knee locks completely. I look at him like, ‘What did you do?†I tell him, ‘Bro, my kneeâ€s locked, it doesnâ€t move!†Turns out, I had a torn piece of cartilage in there I didnâ€t know about. The fluid had been keeping it loose, but once he drained it, that piece jammed into my knee joint. So, I couldnâ€t move it. We were doing multiple tapings in a row at the time, and then had two-week isolation breaks. The next day, the doctor sends me for an MRI. He watches the images as they come up and immediately says, ‘Youâ€ve got a torn cartilage in your knee.â€â€

Jinder said he had already been out for about nine or ten months, came back for only two weeks, and then got hurt again, which put him out for almost another year.

“So after being out for nine or ten months, Iâ€d just come back for two weeks — and then I was out again for another nine or ten months.â€

Jinder Mahalâ€s story shows that no matter how experienced or careful an athlete is, injuries can happen at any time and even healing from them can bring new problems. So, fans just feel itâ€s a shame WWE ended up botching his injury in such a way.

What are your thoughts on how WWE handled Jinder Mahalâ€s injury situation?
Do you think the companyâ€s medical team could have done more to prevent his setback? Sound off in the comments.

England will monitor the fitness of key spin bowler Sophie Ecclestone before Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final against South Africa, after she sustained a shoulder injury in Sunday’s victory over New Zealand.

The 26-year-old came off the field in the first over at Visakhapatnam after diving awkwardly over the boundary rope.

She returned later in the innings to bowl, dismissing Brooke Halliday with her fourth delivery, but immediately walked off the field and did not return as England completed the group stage with a comfortable eight-wicket victory.

“I don’t know anything further but it was definitely precautionary,” said England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt.

“We’ve got a huge match coming up against South Africa so we wouldn’t want to risk anything now. We’ll know more in a few days.”

Ecclestone, the number one-ranked bowler in the world in 50-over cricket, has taken 12 wickets in six matches at the World Cup at an average of 15.33.

She dislocated her right shoulder during The Hundred in 2023, but her new injury is to her left bowling arm.

“She is the world’s best and England need her for the semi-final,” said former England spinner Alex Hartley on BBC Test Match special.

“They have done the right thing to protect her and take her off. She was physically bowling slower and you could see she was in discomfort.

“You can pinch your ligaments and they are never nice. They can be career ‘knocking’ and they will figure out what is wrong with her. Ice, rest and keep it moving is what you need.”

England face South Africa in the tournament’s first semi-final at Guwahati on Wednesday (09:30 GMT).

After losing a major title, there is a huge injury scare for two WWE legends.

The Halloween Havoc, scheduled for Saturday, October 25, featured top title matches with many shocking results. Blake Monroe won her first WWE title, beating Sol Ruca’s replacement, Zaria, whereas Tatum Paxley beat the NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne.

However, there was another title change during the show, which shocked the world.

WWE Legends Deliver Top Performance Before Losing Major Title

During the NXT x TNA Showdown, the Hardy Boyz beat DarkState to claim the NXT Championship, becoming double champions along with the TNA Tag Titles. However, next week, they were ambushed by the villainous faction backstage, and warned that they would destroy them two weeks later.

On the October 21 episode of WWE NXT, the Hardy Boyz underwent a major transformation; read about it here.

The double champions came out prepared to defend the NXT title at Halloween Havoc on October 25, against Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin of DarkState in a Broken Rules Match. The match was highly physical and delivered many high-flying moves, with tables and ladders getting involved. It also featured an iconic Senton by Jeff Hardy off the 20-foot ladder, but their opponent got up, and he crashed through two tables.

Near the decisive moments of the match, DarkState delivered a Doomsday Table Snap on Jeff when Matt was tied to one corner. Following the massive blow, Jeffy was knocked out, leading to a pinfall and loss of the titles.

Kevin De Bruyne’s goal could prove costly for Napoli despite it setting the defending champions on the way to a 3-1 win over Inter Milan and back to the top of Serie A on Saturday.

De Bruyne appeared to pull a muscle as he converted a first-half penalty, immediately clutching the back of his right thigh. The former Manchester City player looked distraught and had to be helped off the field by two medical staff.

Scott McTominay and Frank Anguissa also scored for Napoli after the break, either side of an Inter penalty converted by Hakan Çalhanoğlu.

The result got Napoli back to winning ways — after last weekend’s loss at Torino and Tuesday’s chastening 6-2 defeat at PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League — and lifted them a point above second-placed AC Milan, who drew against Pisa on Friday.

“I live the game with my players, for better or for worse,” said Napoli coach Antonio Conte, who also steered Inter to the title in 2021. “We won despite the difficulties, we have important players absent and now De Bruyne has also been injured. Let’s say it’s not a very lucky year, maybe someone has cursed us.”

Inter, who had been on a seven-match winning run, were left in fourth.

“Inter had come to kill us, they were coming off a great moment, while we were in difficulty,” Conte added. “But we have no intention of dying and we played a tough and vigorous match, putting in an excellent performance despite the difficulties.”

Napoli were already struggling with injuries and their problems got worse when De Bruyne was forced off after firing his spot-kick powerfully into the bottom corner.

The penalty had been awarded after Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan was adjudged to have fouled Giovanni Di Lorenzo. Mkhitaryan also went off injured.

Inter came close to levelling the match in the dying seconds of the first half as Alessandro Bastoni hit the crossbar and Denzel Dumfries clipped the post.

The visitors continued to pour forward after the break but McTominay doubled Napoli’s lead in the 54th minute following a rapid counterattack. He sprung the offside trap to run onto Leonardo Spinazzola’s fine pass and drive it into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

It was McTominay’s third goal this week after his brace against PSV.

Çalhanoğlu reduced the deficit five minutes later with a penalty after Napoli defender Alessandro Buongiorno charged down a Lautaro Martínez header with his arm.

However, Anguissa restored Napoli’s two-goal advantage in the 67th when he finished off another clinical counterattack.
