Darby Allin in full get up at San Diego Comic-Con

Michael Kovac/Getty Images

For the second straight year, AEW’s Continental Classic tournament has been forced to make some changes in the early going. This past Saturday on “AEW Collision,” it was revealed that Gold League participant Darby Allin wasn’t cleared to compete after his opening round match with Kevin Knight led to him going to the hospital. He would instead be replaced by Allin’s rival, and former AEW TNT and Tag Team Champion Jack Perry, making this Perry’s first ever Continental Classic.

Just a day before the announcement, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Allin had suffered a head injury against Knight, suggesting a concussion. While reviewing the promo Allin cut on “Collision” during Monday’s “Wrestling Observer Radio,” Meltzer added a few more tidbits about Allin’s situation, though he again implied that Allin’s injury was related to the head.

“Darby did an interview, so I think he was there [at ‘Collision’],” Meltzer said. “He can travel. He said that his leg stopped working. I know it’s a head injury, obviously, but…and with head injuries, you just never know. But he was there, which I consider a good sign. He was kind of going ‘Well, the doctors won’t let me wrestle. That’s fine.’ But he did say that he was really scared, and had to go to the hospital. So, you know, that’s never a good thing.”

No timetable has been given for when Allin can return to the ring, adding to the uncertainty of the situation. Given Allin’s penchant for risk taking and huge bumps, it will amazingly be only the second time Allin has been out of action for injury concerns in the six years he’s wrestled for AEW, though he was out for seven months earlier this year as he prepared to, and later climbed, Mt. Everest.

Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner received positive news after an MRI revealed he suffered a high left ankle sprain, the team announced.

Wagner underwent the MRI on Monday after he was injured in the first quarter of the Magic’s 106-100 loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday. The injury appeared to be much worse after his left leg bent awkwardly upon a hard landing after a foul. Wagner initially grabbed his leg around his knee.

The MRI showed no structural damage to his left leg, sources told ESPN. The Magic said that Wagner’s return will depend on how he responds to treatment.

Orlando will have to play the Miami Heat in the NBA Cup quarterfinal without Wagner.

The forward has been Orlando’s best and steadiest player, averaging 23.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and improving his 3-point shooting to 35.4% before going down early at New York. He is a big reason why the Magic were able to go 7-3 without Paolo Banchero, who just returned from a groin injury last Friday.

A big update has arrived on WWE star Penta El Zero Miedoâ€s condition after his recent injury scare.

Penta was injured on the November 24 episode of WWE RAW during his match with Solo Sikoa. While fighting outside the ring, Penta attempted a hurricanrana off the barricade and landed awkwardly on his shoulder. The impact was serious enough that he could not continue, giving Sikoa the win.

Soon after the incident, Penta reassured fans that he would return, promising to come back stronger, better prepared, and ready to finish what he started. After a few weeks of recovery, his doctor Odiseo has now shared a positive update.

In an Instagram post, Dr. Odiseo explained the latest progress on December 4. He also noted, “@penta_zero_miedo is on the right track, and we have good results so far. However, we mustnâ€t get complacent and must continue working together. Iâ€m confident it will be ready by Friday.â€

A fan also asked whether Penta would be cleared in time for AAA Guerra de Titanes, where he and Rey Fenix are scheduled to face Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano in tag team action. The doctor replied, “Hope so.â€

As of now, Pentaâ€s recovery is going well, but his final clearance will depend on how he heals in the coming days. Whether he will compete at AAA Guerra de Titanes remains uncertain and only time will tell if he reunites with Rey Fenix at the show.

The New York Knicks won’t have Karl-Anthony Towns when the team takes on the Orlando Magic on Sunday. Towns — who was initially ruled questionable due to a calf injury — was ruled out for the contest, head coach Mike Brown revealed Sunday.

Following Friday’s game — a 146-112 win over the Utah Jazz — there was some uncertainty over Towns’ injury. Brown was asked about Towns receiving treatment on his calf during the game. Brown said he was unaware of that situation, and said no one mentioned it to him during the game. Towns’ minutes were limited in the contest, but that was likely due to the Knicks jumping out to a big lead over Utah.

He finished Friday’s game with 18 points and nine rebounds in just over 22 minutes. Towns is averaging 33 minutes to per this season.

On Saturday, Towns was deemed questionable to face the Magic due to left calf tightness.

He was able to put up some shots ahead of Sunday’s game, but will ultimately be held out of the contest due to the injury.

Towns, 30, is out to yet another strong start and is averaging 22.5 points and 11.9 rebounds in 22 games with the Knicks. His contributions have New York out to a 15-7 start, good for second in the Eastern Conference.

The Magic are also out to a decent start, and are sitting at 14-9 entering Sunday’s game.

The Knicks’starting lineup is finally at full strength.

OG Anunoby returned to the floor on Friday against the Jazz, his first game since injuring his hamstring on Nov. 14. The forward missed nine games just when he was putting up some of the best numbers of his career.

But Anunoby picked up where he left off, scoring 11 points and assisting one in 23 minutes on Friday night. As with any game Anunoby plays, his impact goes far beyond the stat sheet. The first defensive possession for the Knicks, Anunoby forced a bad pass from Jazz forward Svi Mykhailiuk, one of many stops by the Knicks as they got off to a 23-0 start, the best in NBA history since play-by-play has been recorded (1997-98), en route to a 146-112 rout.

“I didn’t really notice it. We were just playing. Someone told us later,” Anunoby said. “I didn’t even notice they didn’t score; we were just getting stops and going. So felt pretty good just playing the way we try to play all the time.”

That good feeling extended to Anunoby’s health. He said he felt good after the game and that he missed playing with his teammates and playing for the fans. But he did not have a good time being unable to play. In those few weeks of missing action, Anunoby described his time recovering as “not fun” but still tried to help his teammates however he could.

“Just try to help in any way possible,” Anunoby said. “Be supportive, talk to my teammates, tell them what I’m seeing, and still help.”

Part of that support is watching film and pointing out little things his teammates are not doing or what teams are doing to the Knicks and trying to get them to incorporate it.

Anunoby’s 23 minutes was good, but head coach Mike Brown was hoping to extend his forward even longer, but the score dictated he empty his bench. Brown did allow Anunoby to play with the reserves as the rest sat on the bench, watching for most of the fourth quarter.

“It was tough because you always wonder… you get a big lead, you donâ€t want anybody to get hurt. But we needed to get OG some game minutes to work on his conditioning,” Brown explained. “He looked good for the time he was out there. I would have loved to get him 25-26 minutes, but 22-23 worked good enough, especially with the way we had the lead tonight.”

Anunoby says he’ll need just a couple of game to feel like he’s in game shape, and he’ll definitely need his conditioning when the Knicks welcome a physical Magic team to the Garden on Sunday.

A fluky encounter with glassware at a team dinner sidelines New Jersey’s top forward, Jack Hughes, for two months. On a goal-scoring heater with the Flyers, Tyson Foerster is suddenly knocked out months with an upper-body issue. We still don’t know what’s wrong with Victor Hedman, only that the Tampa Bay defender isn’t close to returning, despite being initially classified as day-to-day. An unwelcome wildcard in all athletic endeavors, injuries serve as a headache-inducing factor for both fantasy and NHL team managers alike. One, that has to be, well, managed.

Fortunately for those of us directing squads on the fantasy ice, there’s greater flexibility in plugging in an alternative, healthy body. The trick is figuring out who best to grab as substitute, while, in leagues that provide for the luxury, placing the lost performer on injured reserve. Two months into the 2025-26 NHL season, here’s a roundup of several significant fantasy performers out for a period of time, and how to best tread water in the meanwhile.

Resources: Goalie depth chart | Daily lines | Projections | Play for free | Player rater | Most added/dropped | Mock draft lobby | How to watch

Suffering an upper-body injury against Tampa Bay on Sunday, Adam Fox is out weeks, at minimum, for the Rangers. Performing excellently with partner Vladislav Gavrikov at even strength, anchoring the top power play, and essentially averaging a point per game, Fox is going to be greatly, greatly missed. Fingers crossed he’s back not too long into the new year.

Meanwhile, coach Mike Sullivan appears to favor a five-forward configuration on the No. 1 special teams’ unit, incorporating Will Cuylle into the mix. Already a solid-enough performer in deeper, well-rounded leagues, Cuylle is even more attractive if he hangs onto that plum power-play gig.

Gavrikov himself is also worth more than a fleeting fantasy thought right now. Rather vocal about how the entire team needs to step up in Fox’s absence, the defender has kicked in his bit by scoring in each of the games Fox has missed. He blocks enough shots to provide value otherwise.

Advice: Place Fox on IR/add Gavrikov/stream Cuylle

Not even the most insightful insider can seem to crack what’s going on with Anthony Stolarz these days. What was initially thought to be a minor issue is now being loosely characterized as a mysterious, and much more concerning, ailment. However, any sense of real panic has been muted by the excellent play of Toronto’s other netminder, Joseph Woll. That is, until he, suffered what appears to be a lower-body injury in Thursday’s 5-1 win over Carolina. So, enter third-stringer Dennis Hildeby? We’ll see.

As of Friday morning, we await word on the severity of Woll’s issue. He could be out or a game, a week, a month, or even more. (He did finish off the second period even after suffering the injury, which is perhaps a good sign.) As such, invested fantasy managers should keep on top of what’s going on in Toronto’s net over the next few hours/days. Underperforming to date, the Leafs finally seem to be getting their act together.

Advice: Place Stolarz on IR/add Woll?/stream Hildeby?

Christmas will be here in the blink of an eye, which means Matthew Tkachuk will be back on the ice before we know it. As reported by ESPN’s Emily Kaplan, Tkachuk’s projected return is set for the end of January. Just like Brady re-joining the Senators right after Thanksgiving, older bro projects to slide into Florida’s lineup when they host the Lightning on Dec. 27 (he won’t want to miss that hostility-riddled tilt). A top-six/No. 1 power-play role awaits the feisty forward, resulting in Carter Verhaeghe likely falling off the top special-teams unit. Still grabbable in about 20% of ESPN Fantasy leagues, Tkachuk is must-roster across the fantasy board.

Advice: Add Tkachuk now

Promoted to second-line center in Jack Hughes’ absence, Dawson Mercer is starting to come on. Firing 13 shots on net, the 24-year-old has three assists and a goal in his past four contests, including two points with the extra skater. Which works out to an average of 2.0 FPPG in standard ESPN Fantasy competition. As long as he sticks in the Devils’ top six, and on the No. 1 power play, Mercer deserves a spot on any deeper-league roster. Hughes isn’t expected back until the new year.

Advice: Place Hughes on IR/add Mercer

In a bit of positive news for the banged-up Stars, Matt Duchene could be back in the lineup shortly. Officially cleared to play, the veteran reportedly needs to string together a few good practice outings before rejoining the lineup. The club wants to ensure their veteran forward is truly fit and ready to go, which is fair.

With Tyler Seguin (torn ACL) potentially out the rest of the season, Duchene could see minutes in the top six. If not, a role on the third line, along with plenty of quality power-play time, should still see the 34-year-old amass solid production numbers upon his return. He earned 30 goals and 52 assists only a year ago. Rostered in just 36% of ESPN Fantasy leagues, the versatile forward merits consideration in most standard competition. Additional note: Defender Thomas Harley remains out week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Advice:Add Duchene/drop Seguin

In the here and now, Darren Raddysh stands out as a must-roster fantasy figure on Tampa Bay’s injury-ravaged blue-line. At least until Victor Hedman returns healthy. Competing on the Lightning’s top pair and power play, Raddysh boasts 15 points in his past 10 games, including five with the extra skater. Yes, you read that correctly. He’s averaging nearly 3.0 FPPG, yet remains there for the grabbing in more than 66% of leagues. It will be interesting to see how coach Jon Cooper managers matters once Hedman is fit once more.

After undergoing facial surgery a couple of weeks ago, Charlie McAvoy is loosely expected out — there’s still no solid timeline in place — until mid-January. In the meanwhile, fellow defender Hampus Lindholm is filling in on the Bruins’ top power play, while seeing his average ice-time increase to nearly 25 minutes/game altogether. Through a combination of blocked-shots, shots, and assists with the extra skater and at even-strength, Lindholm is averaging 2.1 fantasy points per game (FPPG) in standard competition since McAvoy suffered his injury. And he remains available in more than 95% of leagues.

Advice:Place McAvoy on IR/add Lindholm

Eric Comrie deserved a better fate in Montreal on Wednesday, when he almost single handedly kept his squad in the game until losing 3-2 in a shootout. Volume aside, many of the 29 shots denied were saves belonging on a highlight reel. Filling in for Connor Hellebuyck (minor arthroscopic surgery), Comrie hasn’t been the issue during Winnipeg’s recent dismal run. If the Jets can remember how to play better defense — usually their bread and butter — and get some secondary scoring, the club’s other netminder could enjoy a productive fantasy run before Hellebuyck returns in late December.

Advice: Place Hellebuyck on IR/add Comrie

Out since earlier November with a lower-body injury, Marco Rossi is now loosely anticipated back for the Wild in the next couple of weeks. Eventually, if not immediately, the young center is poised to reclaim his spot on a top line between Kirill Kaprizov and Mats Zuccarello. Which is a pretty swell assignment. Before a quieter November, Rossi racked up 11 points in 11 games through October. He should be accounted for in deeper leagues.

Advice: Add Rossi/drop Ryan Hartman

Three cheers for the attempt at preciseness! According to coach Travis Green, Thomas Chabot (upper-body) is expected back Dec. 14. Or thereabouts. So we can anticipate seeing the Senators defender back in the lineup either Saturday in Minnesota or Monday in Winnipeg. Ranking second to Jake Sanderson on Ottawa’s fantasy depth chart, Chabot is more than a serviceable blueliner in well-rounded leagues. He blocks shots, shoots often enough, pitches in points, and produces on the power play. All good things. He won’t be available in 40% of leagues for long.

Advice: Add Chabot

Suffering a hand injury in October, Rickard Rakell is due back right after the Christmas break. Savvier fantasy managers might make a note to acquire the Penguins winger before he busts back on the scene and starts scoring once again. A staple in Pittsburgh’s top-six and on the No. 1 power play, Rakell is usually good for nearly a point/game. He ringed off eight in eight, while averaging 2.3 FPPG, before falling hurt this campaign. Often underrated as a fantasy performer, Sidney Crosby’s linemate is currently available in more than 40% of leagues.

Advice: Add Rakell soon

At last check, goalie Adin Hill could still be out a while. Which means new Golden Knight Carter Hart is in position to see a hearty number of starts before the club’s No. 1 is once again fully fit. Solid on occasions earlier this season, Akira Schmid hasn’t been good enough of late. Fantasy managers with little to lose could do worse than take a chance on Hart, who played well enough in his first NHL game in nearly two years against the Blackhawks the other night. At least until Hill is back in the mix.

Advice: Place Hill on IR/add Hart

While No. 1 Lukas Dostal is expected out another week or two, backup Petr Mrazek is also likely sidelined until the Christmas break. That leaves third-string netminder Ville Husso to continue patrolling the crease, as he has the past week — to mixed results, mind you. After stopping all but one of 22 shots in a win over the Blues, Husso stumbled by allowing four goals on 21 shots in a lopsided loss to the Mammoth. So the wisest approach would be to only stream the Anaheim netminder in more Duck-friendly matchups.

Advice: Place Dostal on IR/stream Husso when favorable

Bianca Belair just connected with her fans on social media, giving important updates regarding her recovery.

The EST of WWE has been sidelined since April after breaking her knuckle during a triple threat match with Rhea Ripley and IYO Sky at WrestleMania 41. An injury she thought would heal in 8 to 12 weeks has turned into months of recovery, but she’s holding onto hope. Ripley landed right on Belair’s hand during the match, and it crushed her knuckle and everything around it.

While she recovers, Belair keeps herself busy. She’s doing rehab, spending time with her husband, WWE’s Montez Ford, spending quality time with family, and binge-watching TV. She’s been eating a lot, too, and admitted she gained 20 pounds but has already lost 10 of it.

Tony Khan is smiling

Gary Gershoff/Getty Images

Tomorrow night at Ring of Honor Final Battle, several championships will be put on the line. Per ROH owner Tony Khan, Nick Wayne’s ROH World Television Championship will not be one of them.

On the ROH Final Battle media call, Khan addressed the lingering injury to Wayne’s foot, which he first sustained in August. Khan admitted that he and other officials initially expected a full recovery for Wayne by the time Final Battle came around on December 5. As with life, though, an unpredicted curveball emerged.

“I’ll be honest, the timeline on this particular injury changed, which is the nature of injuries,” Khan said. “You can expect when somebody recovers, but when it’s a bad injury, it can take longer … Nick Wayne got hurt in the ring. It’s not his fault. We thought he would 100% be back for Final Battle. I’m not allowed to bet money, but if I was allowed to bet money, I would have bet money that Nick Wayne would be back for Final Battle. He’s not, but I would have to be honest, at Death Before Dishonor, I did not know that Nick Wayne would not be back by now. I didn’t know that a few months ago that was going to be the case or we probably would have crowned an interim TV Champion for when he is back.”

Despite the setback, Khan is hopeful that Wayne is now “close” to returning to in-ring action after breaking his foot. Wayne’s last match came on July 31 when he successfully defended his title against Willie Mack on the Ring of Honor YouTube special (aired August 15). His last physical interaction occurred on the August 13 edition of “AEW Dynamite” as Christian Cage knocked a chair out of his hand with Spike, the nail-filled bat.

Here are the latest news updates and possible return dates forKnicks players…

Dec. 4, 5:10 p.m.

The Knicks are seemingly close to getting OG Anunoby back. According to SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley, Anunoby (hamstring) has been upgraded to questionable for Friday’s game against the Utah Jazz at MSG.

Begley noted on Thursday’s episode of The Putbackthat this weekend’s games are a target for the Knicks to get Anunoby back on the court.

Anunoby has missed every game since suffering the injury on Nov. 14 against the Miami Heat.

Head coach Mike Brown said that Anunoby has progressed to taking contact in practice and it seems as though the forward is reacting to it in a positive manner. Of course, this doesn’t mean Anunoby will play on Friday, but it leaves open the possibility.

Dec. 3, 6:40 p.m.

Knicks head coach Mike Brown gave a short update on OG Anunoby (hamstring). The coach said that Anunoby has progressed to taking contact in practice.

“Itâ€s still the same, heâ€s still progressing in the right direction,” Brown said of Anunoby before Wednesday’s game against the Hornets. “Weâ€re not going to rush him.”

Brown also confirmed that Mitchell Robinson (injury management) will miss Wednesday’s game, as it’s the second of a back-to-back.

Nov. 19, 9:05 p.m.

Jalen Brunson (ankle) will return to the court and start on Wednesday night in Dallas against the Mavericks, the team announced prior to tip-off.

Brunson suffered a Grade 1 right ankle sprain against the Orlando Magic on Nov. 12 and missed the team’s next two games against the Miami Heat. New York split the two contests, winning at home and losing on the road. The team is still searching for its first road win of the season, dropping all four games away from the Garden.

Over 11 games this year, Brunson is averaging 28.0 points on 46.7 percent shooting and 6.5 assists per game.

Meanwhile, the Mavs will be without rookie Cooper Flagg (illness) on Wednesday night as he’ll miss the first game of his career.

Nov. 18, 6:50 p.m.

The Knicks upgraded Jalen Brunson(ankle) to questionable for their Wednesday tip against the Mavericks in Dallas.

Brunson had missed the team’s last two games since suffering a right ankle sprain back on Nov. 12 against the Orlando Magic at MSG. Already without OG Anunoby (hamstring), the Knicks could use their captain to try and get their first road win of the season.

Oct. 28, 7:18 p.m.

Before the Knicks’ tip-off against the Bucks, the Knicks announced that Towns (right quad strain) will play, but Yabusele (left knee sprain) will be out, joining McBride (personal) and Robinson (ankle sprain management) as players who are unavailable for Tuesday’s game.

Oct. 28, 3:35 p.m.

Miles McBride has been downgraded from questionable to out for the Knicks’ game on Tuesday at the Milwaukee Bucks, the team announced. This is the second-straight game the guard missed due to personal reasons. He was out for Sunday’s loss against the Miami Heat.

Oct. 27, 6:45 p.m.

Mitchell Robinson still isn’t ready to make his season debut, as the Knicks have officially ruled him out again for Tuesday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Robinson has been sidelined for the first three games due to left ankle injury management, and it’s still unknown when he’ll make his return to the court.

New York has also listed Karl-Anthony Towns (right quad strain), Miles McBride (personal reasons), and Guerschon Yabusele (left knee sprain) as questionable for the contest.

Yabusele is the only new addition to the injury report. Towns has been included heading into each of the first three games, but played in all three, and McBride missed Sunday’s game against the Heat for personal reasons.

Yabusele left Sunday’s game at one point and had his knee checked, but he was able to return and saw regular time off the bench down the stretch.

Oct. 23, 6:10 p.m.

The latest NBA injury reporthas been released and the Knicks have designated center Mitchell Robinson (left ankle injury management) as out for Friday’s home game against the Celtics.

Robinson missed Wednesday’s season opener and the Knicks are being cautious with their big man this season as they want to have him at close to full strength for an anticipated long playoff run.

The Knicks have also designated both Josh Hart (lower back) and Karl-Anthony Towns(right quad strain) as questionable.

Hart also missed the season opener but has not seen action since the first preseason game where he tweaked his back. Towns almost missed Wednesday’s game but toughed out his quad strain and to help the Knicks’ win against the Cavaliers.

OG Anunoby, who played Wednesday despite being questionable with an ankle sprain, is probably for Friday’s game.

Oct. 22, 10:59 p.m.

Karl-Anthony Towns was questionable, then doubtful, then questionable again in the hours leading up to the Knicks’ win over the Cavaliers and now we know exactly why.

The Knicks forward told reporters after Wednesday’s win that he is playing through a Grade 2 quad strain.

“Iâ€ve been banged up and havenâ€t really got a chance to practice or play in the last two preseason games,” Towns said. “I didnâ€t want to disappoint the fans, dealing with a Grade 2 quad strain. Itâ€s not something thatâ€s easy to do. We made it happen tonight. Glad the fans respect the effort I put in to play tonight, and my teammates, too. Shoutout to them for supporting me, knowing the situation that I was in.”

Towns played through the pain to give the Knicks 19 points and 11 rebounds in 30 minutes.
