The LPGA’s team match-play competition, the Hanwha Lifeplus International Crown, will take place this week at New Korea Country Club in Goyang-si, South Korea.

This is the fifth edition of the eight-team, 32-player event, which begins Thursday and will be contested over four days.

Thailand is the defending champion, beating runner-up Australia two years ago at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. South Korea (2018), U.S. (2016) and Spain (2014) are the other past winners.

New this year is the addition of a World team, which will include the top four players in the Rolex Rankings not on a qualifying team – Canada’s Brooke Henderson, England’s Charley Hull, Taiwan’s Wei-Ling Hsu and New Zealand’s Lydia Ko.

Here is everything you need to know about this week’s competition:

Format

The first three days will feature pool play and four-ball matches before the top two teams in each pool advance to a four-team knockout stage initially pitting the winners of each pool against the runners-up with matchups consisting of two singles matches and one foursomes match. There will be a third-place match in addition to the final on Sunday afternoon local time (South Korea is 13 hours ahead of ET).

In pool play, matchups will feature two four-ball matches; teams will receive one point for a win and a half-point for a tie.

All matches will scheduled for 18 holes with extra holes only used in knockout stage.

Tiebreakers

If two teams are tied for first after pool play, the following methods will be used, in order:
1. Head-to-head result between the two teams
2. Total number of matches won
3. Higher seed
If three or more countries are tied for first, or two or more are tied for second, a playoff will be used – for two teams: sudden-death, four-ball match play with two players per team; for more than two teams: sudden-death, four-ball stroke play with two players per team.

Not qualified

England, Taiwan and Spain are the previous International Crown qualifiers who did not make the eight-team field this year. England and Taiwan each competed in three of the previous four editions while Spain hasn’t made the field since winning in 2014. England and Taiwan are represented on the World team this year, though.

The highest-ranked players not qualified, aside from the WDs, are England’s Lottie Woad (11), South Korea’s Sei Young Kim (13), France’s Celine Boutier (19) and American Andrea Lee (20).

Florida State would have to write Mike Norvell a massive check in order to fire him, even after he restructured his contract in the offseason.

Norvell’s future with the Seminoles will become a bigger point of discussion after FSU fell 20-13 to Stanford, extending its losing streak to four games.

Alas, the coach might be untouchable for now if only because of what the Tallahassee Democrat‘s Dan Rorabaugh reported is a buyout of around $59.2 million.

As long has Florida State fires him without cause, Norvell is entitled to receive 85 percent of the outstanding balance on his contract. Since his deal runs through 2031, dismissing him at any point over the next few years will be expensive.

Here’s his annual salary moving forward, per Rorabaugh:

Norvell is another example of the risks schools are increasingly taking with the extensions they’re handing out.

Ahead of the 2023 season, Florida State re-signed him through 2029 and bumped his annual salary up to $8.05 million. The Seminoles’ unbeaten record during the regular season that year resulted in another pay raise.

FSU proceeded to fall off a cliff in 2024 and finished at 2-10. Even assuming that was a nadir under the current regime, missing a bowl game for the second successive year would be a disaster.

Florida State is also trending toward a fourth losing record in his six seasons at the helm. It’s starting to feel like 13-1 was more of an exception than 2-10.

Of course, the dilemma for FSU is twofold.

Norvell would be cashing in on the second-biggest buyout in college football history, eclipsing the $49 million Penn State just paid to James Franklin but falling well short of the $76 million Texas A&M paid for Jimbo Fisher to go away.

All total, the Seminoles would need to find $100 million, maybe even $150 million to compensate Norvell and his staff and then hire a new head coach.

There’s also the fact that the coaching market is in a rough place right now.

Look no further than Penn State. Jettisoning Franklin was an understandable call, but the list of candidates to potentially replace him isn’t exactly inspiring. Curt Cignetti, one of the best theoretical options, took himself out of the running by signing a new deal with Indiana.

It would be the same thing with Florida State. As bad as things are with Norvell, there’s always the risk that things continue to spiral with a new head coach, which would mean another big buyout and more angst.

Giving it another year and trying to salvage things with Norvell might be the most likely outcome for the Seminoles.

Derek Lunsford became a two-time Mr. Olympia champion Saturday, besting a field of fellow past champions, including last year’s winner, Samson Dauda.

The triumph not only returned Lunsford to the top spot in his sport, but also featured a star-making performance from one of the hottest young competitors in the industry.

Who finished where behind Lunsford and what did this year’s payout look like?

2025 Mr. Olympia Results and Payout

Lunsford’s victory Saturday represented a return to form for the bodybuilder, who followed up his 2023 win in the event with a disappointing third-place finish last year.

The monumental victory is the second of 2025 following his win in the Arnold Classic, where he also bested Dauda and Jacked to have his arm raised.

For the third time in his career, Choopan finished as the runner-up, falling just short of winning his own second Mr. Olympia title. The Iranian-born competitor is traditionally one of the best in his field. Still, he has also established a reputation for falling just shy of his goal, with a 2021 third-place finish to go along with his three consecutive runner-up finishes.

The story of the 2025 event may ultimately be the arrival of Jacked as a legitimate contender on bodybuilding’s grand stage. The impressive Nigerian-born competitor wowed the judges on Saturday, earning a third-place finish. If he works on his on-stage stamina, he can be right back in the top three finishers next year, if not at the forefront of it.

Dauda’s fourth-place finish may be the most disappointing outcome of the show as last year’s winner was, arguably, in even better shape than in 2024, but failed to wow the judges in comparison to his opponents, who made greater strides in their overall performance and presence than he did.

Chelsea ensured former boss Jose Mourinho wasn’t allowed a welcome return in midweek, as the Blues beat his Benfica side in UEFA Champions League action.

But it’s back to business in the Premier League now for Enzo Maresca and his side, as the reigning champions arrive for a mouthwatering affair.

Liverpool have hit a tricky period with back-to-back losses, and the last time that happened was way back in March, so it’s something manager Arne Slot will be acutely aware of.

Pressure is mounting for the Reds to get back on song, but with goalkeeper Alisson and striker Hugo Ekitike both set to miss out, it may be Chelsea’s time to pounce.

Chelsea vs Liverpool: Premier League preview

Chelsea’s indifferent form as of late does mean many are starting to ponder whether the Blues really have the correct mettle to mount a Premier League title charge this season.

It may all come down to Saturday’s affair, given how imperious Liverpool have been since Slot took over, but one thing is for certain: star man Cole Palmer will now not return to the pitch until after the October international break.

The Three Lions international is a huge miss for Maresca and his side, but his continuing groin problem, which may or may not need surgery, is a cause for concern.

Liverpool have lost back-to-back matches, and with a huge trip to Chelsea next on their assignment list, bouncing back will be at the forefront of their minds.

The Reds have looked a shadow of their former selves that stormed to the title at a canter over the past week, losing to both Crystal Palace and Galatasaray in successive outings.

Alexander Isak will likely lead the attack given Ekitike’s problem but their will also be a Premier League debut for Giorgi Mamardashvili, with Alisson out after pulling up in midweek against the Turkish giants.

Bournemouth have enjoyed a positive start to the new Premier League season and currently occupy 6th position in the table heading into their Friday-night clash against Fulham.

Andoni Iraola continues to work well with a smaller squad and a relatively limited budget, despite losing a whole host of his stars across a tricky summer on the south coast.

Fulham opted to keep their cards close to their chest with minimal additions, but Marco Silva again must also be credited for the job he is doing at Craven Cottage.

Beaten by Aston Villa last time out, both sides will be keen to begin the weekend with three points, and we are expecting an entertaining affair at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth vs Fulham: Premier League preview

Bournemouth were unbeaten across September, recording two wins and two draws and will hope to continue their fine form as we reach the third month of the 2025/26 campaign.

Iraola’s men seem to be striving under their typical underdog pressure and the Vitality Stadium has proved a happy hunting ground for them over the course of the season so far.

Eli Junior Kroupi rescued a point in the 2-2 draw with Leeds United last time out, with ever-present scorer Antoine Semenyo continuing his rich run of form in front of goal with the Cherries’ other strike.

Fulham, on the other hand, have seen a mixed bag of results so far and head into this contest with two wins, two draws and two losses.

It seems to be in attack where the Cottagers are struggling most, with Rodrigo Muniz only managing one goal in seven games so far this term.

Having netted 11 across the last campaign for Silva’s side, the Brazilian may need to improve his output in order to keep former Wolves man Raul Jimenez out of the side, with the pair fighting for a spot at present to lead Fulham’s frontline single-handedly.

Everton vs West Ham: Premier League preview

It’s been a difficult week for Moyes and his side, losing to rivals Liverpool and then crashing out of the Carabao Cup in a matter of days.

The Toffees were unlucky in their defeat at Anfield and most would suggest they were the better side in the second half of the derby.

Jarrad Branthwaite is yet to play this season, and Merlin Rohl also continues to step up his recovery from a hip problem.

There will be no Tomas Soucek through suspension for the Hammers, having been sent off against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be hoping to be available after missing the last two outings with a stomach problem.

West Ham United’s first-ever visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium will hope to bring success but Everton are yet to concede there and may have their work cut out.

The Hammers’ biggest-ever top-flight win at Everton was a 4-0 First Division victory at Goodison Park way back on 10 April 1929. Vivian Gibbins helped himself to a hat-trick on that very day.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is dismissive of the idea that there might be a conflict of interest between Tom Brady’s dual roles as FOX broadcaster and minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Goodell recently told CNBC Sports’ Alex Sherman it is up to teams how much they reveal in pre-game production meetings with broadcasters like Brady.

“Teams have the right to say whatever they want to. They don’t have to disclose any information if they think it’s a conflict of interest,” Goodell told Sherman.

Goodell continued, “Teams don’t need to say anything. Sometimes they don’t say anything to somebody who’s not [a minority owner]. We get a lot of former players that are in [broadcast meetings] that are close to their former teams. I think our teams are pretty smart about saying, ‘I’m not sharing something with him.'”

The overlap between Brady’s two jobs has come under scrutiny since he was spotted wearing a headset in the Raiders coaching box during a Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Premier League’s main event on Sunday is Arsenal hosting Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.

We’re once again expecting fireworks, as Mikel Arteta faces off against his old friend Pep Guardiola once again in the dugout.

Arsenal vs Man City key information

• Date:Sunday 21 September

• Kick-off time:4:30pm BST / 11:30am ET

• Venue:Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal bounced back from their own loss of the season so far with an impressive display against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

That also no doubt helped Arteta’s men as they began their UEFA Champions League journey with an impressive 2-0 win over Athletic Club on Tuesday.

As for City, it’s been a shaky start, but a 3-0 home success over crosstown rivals Manchester United last weekend has helped ease those woes.

Combine that with their 2-0 win over Napoli in Europe, Guardiola will have plenty to ponder ahead of their trip to the capital.

Arsenal vs Man City: Premier League preview

Arsenal spent big and will hope their added squad depth can help them pip Liverpool to a first Premier League crown in over 20 years this season.

Viktor Gyokeres already has three goals to his name in all competitions, and the Sweden international is beginning to find his feet, although you feel a huge test will arrive against City’s regimented backline.

Eberechi Eze is yet to be given a proper chance to strut his stuff after switching from Crystal Palace, and you do feel this game would suit the England international down to a tee.

At the back, it appears as if Gabriel will continue to partner Cristhian Mosquera, with William Saliba still out injured.

As for City, a win in the 197th Manchester derby set the tone for two wins a week, with the onus continuing that form against Arsenal this weekend.

Erling Haaland is back to his best, not that he ever lost it, that is, after netting three goals in two games against Manchester City and Napoli combined.

Guardiola will be hoping his new-look Cityzens side is beginning to find a hint of rhythm, and we all know how dangerous that can be once City find a second gear.

In terms of absentees, Phil Foden is back in the fold after scoring against United, whilst Rayan Ait-Nouri, Mathis Cherki, Omar Marmoush, John Stones, Mateo Kovacic and Kalvin Phillips are all still out.

FourFourTwo’s prediction

Arsenal 2-3 Manchester City

Arsenal tend to falter in these big games, and despite having had an extra two days on City, we feel the Sky Blues will narrowly edge a five-goal thriller at the Emirates Stadium, with Haaland scoring at least one.

Sunderland have made an impressive return to the Premier League and backed it up once again last weekend with a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

Regis Le Bris’ side are yet to lose on home soil this term, having posted wins against West Ham United and Brentford.

Unai Emery and his Villans face a very different story and are still just one of two teams, with Wolves too, yet to win a Premier League game this season.

Jadon Sancho made his debut for Villa in their EFL Cup exit against Brentford in midweek and will have to do much more in order to quickly change opinions.

Sunderland vs Aston Villa: Premier League preview

Sunderland seem to be fitting in just fine upon their return to the Premier League, and much can be made of the start they have made.

The Black Cats have amassed 7 points from their opening 4 games and are currently 7th in the table, ahead of serial winners Manchester City.

Le Bris’s men have adapted well to the demands placed on them, and the Stadium of Light is once again expected to provide a cauldron of noise as Aston Villa arrive in the north-east on Saturday.

Dan Ballard and Luke O’Nien have been tipped to return for the hosts, and the pair would be huge boosts in terms of selection if they are fit and ready to go.

It’s been a disastrous start for Aston Villa, and for a team in the Europa League this season, sitting second bottom in the Premier League table is far from ideal.

Villa did lose two of their most influential players from the second half of last season in loanees Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio, but did bring in both Sancho and former Liverpool man Harvey Elliott.

Jacob Ramsey has been sold to help balance the PSR books, and Leon Bailey has also left on loan, which means a good chunk of Emery’s attacking options have been either sold or let go.

Ollie Watkins has also had the fewest touches of any outfield player in the side so far this term, according to Sky Sports, which doesn’t bode well for a side who are usually so heavily reliant on his form in front of goal.

FourFourTwo’s prediction

Sunderland 0-1 Aston Villa

FourFourTwo thinks this one could be awfully tight, but with Villa’s Premier League experience, we fancy Emery to finally get a first win of the season under his belt at the Stadium of Light this weekend.
